Vicious Male Counterpart Isn’t Competing Anymore

Before he died, Yan Hao could never understand why his parents had always favored his younger brother. They spoiled his brother, and wouldn’t pay any attention to himself, no matter what he did.

The more this happened, the more indignant and upset Yan Hao became, so he began to compete with his brother in everything. As long as it was something his brother wanted to do, he would do it too, and outperform him.

He was obviously the one who was more talented, but from beginning to end he was never acknowledged by the people around him. His parents, teachers, and classmates all looked at him with disdain, claiming he was jealous and selfish, and liked to steal from others.

It wasn’t until his death that Yan Hao realized that he had been stealing from the protagonist. He was just a vicious male counterpart in a book to set up the kind hearted protagonist shou. A cannon fodder who existed to let the protagonist gong appear and to slap him in the face, so he could look good in front of the protagonist shou.

After he was reborn, Yan Hao kicked the protagonist away. Who the hell wants to compete with you? If laozi turned around, you wouldn’t be able to catch me even if you cried.

He wouldn’t fight anymore, and he wasn’t jealous. He just wanted to peacefully be himself, and let his light shine on the people who care about him.

Many years later, someone asked Yan Hao, who had become a master mecha engineer, “How did you get into mecha manufacturing?”

“Because I met someone.” Yan Hao.

gifting a formula that took 3 months of effort and is enough to ensure he has more than enough money for the rest of his life to some senior just because the senior gave him directions??? all ML did was help him sell his stuff and gave him like a grand total of two opportunities before that.

hes so mary sue when it comes to abilities but other than that he has no grasp of social interactions and has no common sense. im dropping this I can feel my blood pressure spiking when he does another s*upid thing <<less

I haven't finished the story yet as the translations are not yet done but I can already now say that this story will definitely end up on my re-reads list! The two mains are so cute in their interactions and so are the supporting characters that surround them and I often find myself giggling with glee as they try win in showing most support to the MC.

There are some comments in the reviews that look down on the MC's low EQ or think that he should have "learned more" from... more>> his previous life but the guy clearly has some autism tendencies and I think the author captures how he would react quite well. As the story progresses, he learns more about relationships from the supportive people around him, something he didn't have the chance to in his first life, and his EQ starts to improve, to a reasonable degree.

The only thing I have an issue with is insanely black the villan is under his white persona and how easily he has managed to brainwash everyone who is mentioned in the original book. It is beyond reasonable! So shameless! Still, it makes for good face slapping scenes so I'm not really complaining ;) <<less

The MC is cute, super smart academically but dumber than a sack of rocks. He's been reborn back to a younger age but thats just the authors catch. He's still a moron who has barely learned anything other than to stay away from his bit*h of a brother. He's had this whole past life where he has been used and ab*sed constantly and relentlessly by other people but still has no sense of self preservation to exercise wariness and lets himself (no not get himself) LETS HIMSELF in situations he... more>> could have easily avoided with some semblance of self awareness and some past life knowledge that apparently is only useful during hindsight. So the description that the MC is a baby is very accurate. Dude could probably drown himself on half filled cup of tea. But don't blame the character. The author wanted it that way.

That aside the heartwarming moments are good enough to let all that pass to be an okay read. Granted to be honest I just skim and read parts because its a typical long winded chinese novel with so much made up words to fill some sort of quota.

Reading instructions to help a reader gain a more favorable experience: (This will apply to most chinese novels)

I find skipping most of the posted 1/8th of an actual chapter disguised as 2 parts, whose page is 80% ad space and the obligatory full page pop-up makes reading it more entertaining read 3 to 4 sentences of the first part of the few paragraphs disguised as a chapter, read 1 or so sentences on the next parts or so till you get to the 4th page the most important of which are at the bottom, you can ignore the rest most of the time and it feels more coherent, weirdly enough. Because you'll soon find out the other parts of a part of a chapter is just word vomit and usually a repetition of the first chapter just written with different words when their not feeling particularly shameless.

In summary its an ok enough light read (light if you follow the reading instructions, heavy if you insist in reading all of the falsely labeled segmented chapter hoping it has actual world building value as the page loads and reloads more ads that take up half the screen of a "chapter" that would barely fill a phones screen or at most take half a swipe when using an ad blocker) with some great heart warming moments and villain face slapping (wish these books had the authors picture in the credits tbh) and a great philosophical journey into realizing why love and hate are two sides of the same coin. <<less

I quite liked the story and MC. ML is also quite nice. The reason I only gave it 3 stars is because the ending was very abrupt. Lots of loose ends such as

We don't know what retribution yan fei received.

We don't know if MCs parents realised yan feis lies.

We don't know what happened to smx in the end.

I get that this is basically MCs new life and he didn't want to have contact with them. But, since so much emphasis was put on them in the beginning, we as the readers need some resolution. It feels very unfulfilling to end the story like this. The least author could've done is put some extras.

This story flows so smoothly, where our reborn MC receives a chance to review his life choices, and choose what he genuinely wants and dreams to become. In the meantime, we also find out, our MC in his previous life was actually the halo of the OG protagonist, his every effort making the protag look more and more outstanding. But not in this life. MC gets a good ML, good teachers and mentors, as well as helpful friends in this lifetime 💕

The last plot with space jump was something I... more>> wanted to see more developed and ventured. However, the plot developed in a way that was more intriguing and engaging.

All in all, it is a good read. <<less

it is in fact, quite a clichéd novel. Protagonist is well versed in mecha manufacturing and pharmaceutics. His math abilities are god tier and wanted by the people of both departments.

the villain (protagonist of the og novel) on the other hand, is only good at innovating specifically in pharmaceutics, but because of mc's decision to throw away his past life and family, he can't show his full potential and so he turns evil. initially I thought that this villain would be fine on his own doing what he can do... more>> and doing it well. then the author decides to use the plot of "plot correction" for the story to insert negative thoughts towards his brother in the villain. I can't say it's terrible, but it is clichéd and ends up making the villain a foil to the MC. (this means that this sort of story is overturning the situation where the MC and villain's roles are reversed)

there are many qualities in the MC which is illogical, like the fact that he is in fact 20 years older than his physical body but acts like a child and doesn't understand situations (low eq and not knowing how to value his skills) despite being placed in the working environment for decades already (part of it may be because he has been overshadowed his entire life, but I'm ignoring that in my review). he is a normal Mary sue character, and I dont find it particularly interesting but the story is bearable enough to get by so I'm continuing reading it.

I nearly forgot about the male lead. his appearances aren't that impactful. he's a rich, powerful, cold ML whose only flaw is his injured hand. that's the only thing I can remember about him. Well, he's also protective about the protagonist and cares about him, in a g*ooming sort of way

they officially get together near chapter 100... I understand what the other reviews mean by the romance is very slow now

past 150, I stopped reading. I knew the rest of the story was gonna be zerg fighting and MC developing mech so it got boring <<less

From the way I see it it is quite okay okay read I guess. And rather similar to many other novels of this trope. Like MC is typical naive, dense, little kid whose eyes lights up with smallest of happy stuff.

And ML is typical gong who gets instantly attracted or interested in MC at the 'fateful'first encounter. And They would naturally get closer while MC will progress on his way to become winner in life.

So I guess I can't bring myself to read it completely

All in all it was an okay read. I really enjoyed the first 100 chapters or so but after about chapter 135 I got bored. After 155 I gave up reading each chapter and skimmed until the end. The story is also missing romance, their interactions are cute but too few. Just a warning, MC is an OP GarySue, so if that isn't your thing don't read. I personally like MC's like this one, and I liked

how he readily and decisively accepted his love for ML and pursued him

ML was good, not enough screentime but loves MC with his whole heart. Not the cold type of MC, just a normal personality.

Would have rated this novel higher if the author shortened or added more fluffy romance scenes. MTL was really easy to read.

There are people who hate you for the wrong reasons. There are people who hate you for the right reasons. And there are people who hate you for no reason.

For MC, he's been the victim of the third for almost the entirety of his first life. That being said, he has a meek and insecure personality, having been gaslighted into thinking he's a "vicious and undeserving" person.

This is not really a romance or redemption novel and more of a novel about overcoming past trauma and learning to stand up for... more>> oneself. Therefore, if you're looking for a strong protagonist who kicks major booty, you might want to read a different novel.

The overall plot is okay, nothing extraordinary because the majority of the novel focuses on MC's growth and development. <<less

The story is alright like a good fodder novel to feed yourself when bored. Yan Hao (MC) is somewhat dislikable for some at the start, but there's growth and promise. The romance is ok, with Sheng Heng (ML) falling in love at first sight with Yan Hao and trying to enlighten him.

It's an aight read. edit: kinda pissed at Yan Hao, still am, but less and to a tolerable degree w/ me done reading his whole development throughout the novel.

This Novel was actually pretty good.

It was fun to read, entertained me graeatly and hat enough faceslapping to enjoy but not too much to get annoying. So yeah, this is a good read.

Althoug MC is the "Vicious Male Counterpart" he is an absolutely cinnamonbun. Such a naive and cute character. He is a born math Nerd and all his brainpower is going to his research... so his interpersonal relationships lack EQ and understanding. The bad relationships in his former live were thanks to his green tea brother... so now changing... more>> his own live and distancing himself from family, our little cutie is going down a whole other way.

He meets People that actually like him and understand his way of thinking. It's a journey to become selfconfident.

ML is nice and not too overpowered. Well he poweres up rather fast but is written with his own set of problems. He is not hungry for fame and treasures our litte MC and his own family.

I would recommend this novel, since it was entertaining and is able to draw you in. The only thing I dislike is, that the ending came rather fast and there are no Extras. <<less

like the novel because I never seem to get tired of this rebirth genre. The MC is very talented, he's both talented as a mech builder and as a pharmacist. What I like most about him being OP is that he's so talented that people joke about the ML not being worthy of him. I like the fact that the ML is not one of those who are usually perfect in everything (looks, background, money, and luck). The only thing I found hard to accept is how oblivious the... more>> MC is about his talent. Every time he makes a breakthrough or accomplish something exceptional but refuses to make it known publicly that it was made by him, I feel like vomiting blood from hating iron for not becoming steel.

he's obviously so smart yet during the exams he makes sure not to become number one, and even when making energy blocks he controls the percentage to a lower value just so that he doesn't becomes outstanding

This novel is just okay.

I like the interactions between the MC and ML for the most part. The issues start up with all the other aspects of the story.

This is nitpicky, however, I personally hate the way the author writes, 'his eyes gained a bright light' or, 'His eyes had a bright light in them as he looked seriously up at-blank'. I do not like this imagery because all I can picture is the main character having normal eyes, then out of nowhere he gains glowing eyes like Superman using... more>> his laser eyes.

I also strongly disliked how OP the MC was, especially with his pharmaceutical skills. In addition, his OPness with Mecha started to feel old after a while. I was initially interested in the Mecha described by the author. However, the constant random occurrence of people who either needed the MC's help, or had to have the MC fix something because he managed to be to OP and cause something to break/go outdated/be revealed became to frequent.

I am also not the biggest fan of the ML. While he IS a better ML then some stories I have read, he still does things with no real logic. An example is not clearly explaining to the MC how poorly thought and harmful his actions of making blueprints available were. The MC, being a unparalleled genius, somehow made plans for a entirely new connectivity system for Mecha, and made available his detailed notes to a well known 'hidden' forum. After doing so, he almost caused the ENTIRE BUSINESS to go bankrupt.

Another pet peeve was he ML not just confessing. He is extremely possessive, even before the two are together. One example is the MC cooked a meal for him and there was enough for his (ML) friends to try as well. After hearing one friend jokingly mention opening a restaurant, he immediately thinks the MC should not. Even though the MC does need money.

There are more reasons I rated this novel so low that I might update my review to include in the future.

Good luck to fellow readers.😑 <<less

Enjoyable read but this is the kind of Mary Sue novel that would be dissed in a "Cannon Fodder transmigrates into a Mary Sue novel" novel. Thankfully though, there's only 1 ML candidate.

There were also a lot of plot points were not properly developed and imo the zerg ending came at a really weird timing.

Wu MingChuan was Yan Fei's good friend and a cannon fodder villain in the initial chapters but he mysteriously went offline with 0 justification.

Same for Yan Fei? There was all that foreshadowing where Yan Fei was vaguely aware that he is the main character and Yan Hao was stealing his protagonist luck but it somehow ended up being a Humans vs Zerg war trope. Where did Yan Fei go? What about his mysterious drug he was planning to control Yan Hao with?

And OgML Sima showed signs of being whitewashed when he threaten Yan Fei not to use his mysterious drug because it would be detrimental to the empire. But from that point onwards Sima became a background character to highlight Sheng Heng'e awesomeness. What was the whole point of setting him up as a potential villain

It's a good and touching story about a mildly austistic (this is just my guess based on MC's underdeveloped EQ and high IQ) OP Shou x Soft, considerate and whipped Gong story but the last arc and the ending especially was very rushed, abrupt even with many loose ends and that left me unsatisfied...

Since this story doesn't have extras, these loose ends are just left there hanging... like, there was a hella lot of time skips and the last time skip was 5 years long, but there wasn't any real... more>> clarification on what happen at that time to the characters aside from a short few paragraphs. I mean, the author did say that was the best they could do, but still...

Aside from the last arc the story was pretty good, and the one thing I like the most about this story is that, the ML was very considerate of the MC's boundaries and actually CARED about consent (though he was a little liberal with eating tofu from MCXD) which is soooo rare in Chinese novels!

And the shou (MC), despite his underdeveloped EQ, was a decisive person once he knew what he wants! You have no idea how glad I was that the MC was so straightforward and sweet with his romantic feelings for the ML, which leaves no room for any of the usual dead brain drama of misunderstandings, denials and avoidance.

Spoiler ahead!

And anyone who says Yan Fei loves the MC needs to see a therapist, coz if Yan Fei really loved his brother he would have done stg about the way their parents treated him, instead of acting like a scheming bit*ch whenever their parents feel guilty about the way they treated MC to make them angry at MC instead, and he wouldn't have tried and schemed against MC to make him study pharmacy again all so he could use MC's mathemical intelligence to help him prove the legitimacy of his creations... He even kidnapped MC and created a hallucinogen with the intention to use it on MC to force him to cure Sima MingXuan and was thoughtless and selfish enough to wish death on MC while MC was trying to save a whole planet... If you call that love, I'm terrified to know your definition of hate... <<less
