Vicious Male Counterpart Isn’t Competing Anymore

Before he died, Yan Hao could never understand why his parents had always favored his younger brother. They spoiled his brother, and wouldn’t pay any attention to himself, no matter what he did.

The more this happened, the more indignant and upset Yan Hao became, so he began to compete with his brother in everything. As long as it was something his brother wanted to do, he would do it too, and outperform him.

He was obviously the one who was more talented, but from beginning to end he was never acknowledged by the people around him. His parents, teachers, and classmates all looked at him with disdain, claiming he was jealous and selfish, and liked to steal from others.

It wasn’t until his death that Yan Hao realized that he had been stealing from the protagonist. He was just a vicious male counterpart in a book to set up the kind hearted protagonist shou. A cannon fodder who existed to let the protagonist gong appear and to slap him in the face, so he could look good in front of the protagonist shou.

After he was reborn, Yan Hao kicked the protagonist away. Who the hell wants to compete with you? If laozi turned around, you wouldn’t be able to catch me even if you cried.

He wouldn’t fight anymore, and he wasn’t jealous. He just wanted to peacefully be himself, and let his light shine on the people who care about him.

Many years later, someone asked Yan Hao, who had become a master mecha engineer, “How did you get into mecha manufacturing?”

“Because I met someone.” Yan Hao.

Very very interesting plot. Contrary to many reborn in interstellar novels, the MC is not out for revenge. He just wanted to do what he loved instead of trying to compete with his brother. And he's very genuine character. And even if he knew some things about the future, he only relies on his strength, not necessarily using it to advance his career. And there main plot is about the theories about meca improvement and mental strength of the military. It's very refreshing. The public opinion on social medias is... more>> less present than other novels and honestly the main c characters only use it to help advertising products, not to save or destroy someone's reputation.

The charaecters features are not overly described, just enough to let you imagine as you like. No excessive feminine feature, weak hyperslim short shou, or bodybuilded ML etc.. No artificial means trying to seduce the reader into stereotypical characters

Overall it's a funny, straight to the point good, realistic-for a scifi -novel.

Just like disappointed of the end would have loved to have some bonu s chapters <<less

After reading the description, I didn't expect anything much from this novel. Well, I just wanna read some face-slapping drama scenes and cute mary sue protagonist so I started reading this. Just ignore those (big) plot holes for example, how did the ML fall in love with MC (personally I don't like love at first sight). Anyway, don't use your brain, don't mind mc's EQ, you just need to enjoy the dramas, fluffs, and the OP MC. It was better than I thought even though the antagonist is brainless and... more>> super annoying, the story line is actually nice. <<less

I enjoyed reading this. Rating is about 4.75~4.85. It's particularly compelling in some parts like the battle near the end of the story.

There's also some character development for the MC although he's not the most relatable character out there what with being a little eccentric and traumatized genius with low EQ who somehow still retained a painfully naive and honest personality etc.

The logic used behind MC's childhood environment is also bit unconvincing for me. There can be a few single-minded fools incapable of distinguishing between truth and fiction in one's... more>> life, but for each and every person in MC's childhood to be one is a bit unreal.

There are also some loose ends for some supporting characters like the MC's little brother. Really, author, we could use 1 or 2 extra chapters 😁 <<less

The MC is definitely way OP but it's in such a frankly ridiculous way that it didn't take away from the story. Basically, with every possible issue in the story, throw the MC at it and it'll get solved. Not only does he know everything but he's ridiculously good at everything he does too, to the point that he breaks pretty much every standard set for both mecha and pharmaceuticals.

This OP behavior made every difficult situation a bit less thrilling to read, since it was basically known that the MC... more>> would calculate his way out of every problem. I honestly didn't have much a problem with it though because he was a very likable and well rounded character otherwise.

The romance was very sweet and I really liked how
Spoiler

the MC took the initiative in a lot of the major relationship milestones, being the first to confess and propose to the ML, even though the ML definitely realized his feelings first.

This Novel was actually pretty good.

It was fun to read, entertained me graeatly and hat enough faceslapping to enjoy but not too much to get annoying. So yeah, this is a good read.

Althoug MC is the "Vicious Male Counterpart" he is an absolutely cinnamonbun. Such a naive and cute character. He is a born math Nerd and all his brainpower is going to his research... so his interpersonal relationships lack EQ and understanding. The bad relationships in his former live were thanks to his green tea brother... so now changing... more>> his own live and distancing himself from family, our little cutie is going down a whole other way.

He meets People that actually like him and understand his way of thinking. It's a journey to become selfconfident.

ML is nice and not too overpowered. Well he poweres up rather fast but is written with his own set of problems. He is not hungry for fame and treasures our litte MC and his own family.

I would recommend this novel, since it was entertaining and is able to draw you in. The only thing I dislike is, that the ending came rather fast and there are no Extras. <<less

This story got super technical, but it made me think about how an author's nationality and possible career could affect their writing. It kind of feels like the author is/was involved in some type of mathematics research.

Plot: 5/5

Loved the pacing. I think the ending was a little rushed but it was clearly set up well.
Spoiler

I almost expected that the younger brother, Yan Fei, would team up with the Zergs at the end but I'm glad they didn't do that. I think that they could've followed up on him though.

[collapse]

Characters: 5/5

I actually think that the characters, especially the main ones were developed very well. Usually the trope is that the male lead is an OP character, but I love that the author chose to make the ML someone who developed along with the main character. It made it more realistic and made the couple more connected, since they were both people who reached their full potential when they were together. I also liked the side characters, including their best friends.

Romance: 5/5

The main relationship was healthy, and they were so cute! I think that the way that Yan Hao realizes he's in love was in line with his characterization/personality.

Whoa, the ending was so abrupt. I think it could have used a couple of extras in order to flesh out the greater universe in this story. I feel like learning more about the general ending of humans in this story would have been very inspiring. However, the author I think has a good grasp of the reader's interest - the pivot to heartstopping war and fighting happened right as I was afraid the story was going to be an endless grinding slice of life with no suspense.

I liked the... more>> face slapping and I like the mc's growth in his rebirth. It felt very realistic, though I feel like some people take it as validation of the concept of going no contact with family. If it is, then it is validation that no contact isn't the only answer unless you've already lived a full life's worth of misery and hurt. Which some people have. But probably far fewer than the number of people who think they have.

I feel like the story also leaves a lot of loose ends in it's world building and story telling. It definitely feels like a story that was written on the go and not really planned out thoroughly.

With that in mind, there's not really any interesting morals in it. Other than the astounding concept of maintaining hope in hopeless situations. Not giving up early. And how great talent comes with great responsibility. The recognition and acclaim had comes with great accomplishment is compensation for the fact that you now have a responsibility for more than yourself and your own desires. Have a grudge against someone? Stifle it if helping them means helping humanity. Have a great discovery that can earn you millions? Consider the circumstances and how to balance wealth with improving human condition. <<less

Overall, this was a great novel! Like others have mentioned, the ending is a bit rushed. I also felt that there were a lot of loose ends that never got addressed (these weren't necessarily pivotal to the storyline, but would have added more closure since there aren't any extras... wuwuwu).

These two things are why I deducted a star. If I had to give a more accurate rating, I would say 4.3 stars.

As to what I loved about it, the MC and ML's relationship was strong, and they each had their... more>> own goals and didn't revolve their life around the other. If you're looking for sweet fluff, this isn't it. Though there are moments where I definitely squealed in excitement, romance was the secondary focus and more of a tool to drive the plot forward. This novel is more focused on mecha building and battles.

To address others' comments on the MC's low EQ, you have to remember to take into consideration his past life and the fact that, realistically, someone wouldn't be able to overcome trauma so easily. Though there are indicators that the MC had low EQ in general, I believe a great deal of it was contributed as a result of his past life. <<less

Was this cute?

Absolutely

Did I read it till end?

... more>> Not really

All characters after ch 50 became really bland but still I'd recommend to read it until your bored.

I especially liked MCs roommate HS, I found him to be the most lively and liked the way he went on with his own goals, the way he treated MC and well how he just couldn't keep on with his homework but always did it. He always explained things MC didnt understand.

And still it felt his whole life didnt revolve around MC and he was lively even without him.

So this side character might be the only character I really liked. <<less

Chapter 157:

I'll be ending my reading here as I started to feel that reading anymore would only be a waste of time.

What I liked about this novel.

    • The MC: The MC is very cute and loveable, and not that kind of weird cute but lovely cute, the kind that I want to dote on; when I first started reading the novel I didn't like the ML, but since I liked the MC very much, I've continued reading and the ML also started to be more and more likable.
    • The mecha-building journey: surprisingly, I've enjoyed that part very much, much more than the romance, since this ship 'quite honestly' is not really my type, so yeah...
What I didn't like:

    • Around the 120th chapter or so, the author started relying so much on dialogue tags, "stuff like "he told him, he asked him, he added." became increasingly used, and it was quite painful to listen to.
    • One last thing, which I honestly didn't mind much but definitely a minus; is this novel's lack of romantic attributes (just a few scattered scenes here and there), it's more focused on the two's paths, and their jobs, as I almost forgot this was a romance novel. It would have been better if there was a balance.
So, why did I drop the novel? As I said earlier it started to feel like a waste of time, and as many reviewers pointed out, it started to feel rushed at the end, so I decided just to stop.

I love it!! One thing to note is that MC is absolutely a Mary su genius, but despite it being very present I can’t find it annoying. The major focus of this is healing, where MC finds people that genuinely care about him. It’s very realistic in the most heartwarming way, and there is no drama between the people MC has made friends with; as someone whose heart hurts when nice people are hurt, this novel had me feeling so happy and gooey because of how much MC deserved the... more>> care he never received as a child. Moreover, MC is totally academic-autism coded, and I think his cluelessness makes sense when you consider his background and how much of a dump his childhood was. Even so, he’s very sweet and naive without being mindless, and you can see how his mentality grows to be more positive and less self depreciating/naive (still a work in progress though). There is no dog blood drama where random people get jealous and plot schemes, in fact the whole point is that MC is a genius who is only now getting recognition, and the people around him are already very talented so despite not being geniuses they are warm hearted and appreciative of MC’s efforts. While reading, the progression was really different from other translated novels, it felt very sweet yet also real, like it could happen in reality (ignoring the supernatural parts). Fate dealing the nicest hand after the carpy first life, you know. I also really like the ML, like even though MC is the golden finger of all golden fingers, he’s not piggybacking on MC’s success; he has talents in other aspects and even with a senior-junior ship it’s still very balanced and very consensual. Congratulations everyone the main ship is a total green flag!!! (Can’t say anything abt the other one though errr it’s giving s*umbag behavior but like.. Mutual beneficiaries or smth). Plot wise I’m not a great estimator for that but the progression is solid to me. MC rockets up there because he’s so smart so the tech developing is already busting out new gear. Even so, it’s not rushed and he’s making fast but understandable advancements, and does actually learn from his teachers- he’s not the top mecha engineer but his learning speed and mental math is unparalleled.

overall, very sweet and with genuinely good people, the only drama is with the same few characters (family + that other guy), and warm soup for the soul plus a few action scenes; literally found family I love them so muchhhhh <<less

I'm at Chapter 115 and I'm liking the novel so far! Also kudos to the great translations for producing excellent work.

I liked the world building of the novel. It's not too complicated but not bland either so it's easy to follow.

I don't consider the main characters OP as compared to the "son of heaven"s in other novels.

The MC is highly intelligent but not OP in a way that a Mary Sue novel is. He has high integrity in terms of his research that despite being able to go back in... more>> time, he does not still future research work from others.

The ML has an innate S-Level mental energy but the author did not just let him run rampant. The author still gave him a handicap that necessitates him to work hard.

The other characters don't just blindly like the MC either. They like him because he has a kind personality, intelligent mind, hardworking ethic. The good impression they have doesn't come out of nowhere. <<less

Despite giving it five-stars, I acknowledge this novel’s deficiencies. The MC was reborn with his knowledge of the future but emotionally seems stuck—and while we see some growth, it’s not as fleshed out as I’d like. There are some threads that are dropped, and the ending feels quite abrupt. And the title, while descriptive of the premise, doesn’t feel like it does justice to the whole.

But I still think it’s an excellent novel within this genre. The development of the mecha felt just detailed enough to satisfy, and the focus... more>> on the battles towards the end was gripping. And the ML is a lot more well-rounded than anything else I’ve read—you can see his struggles and root for him. And while their relationship was relatively smooth, it doesn’t get cloying because they both have their own goals and careers and friends. <<less

This is a 4.2-4.3 rating. I'm being generous here. This is the authors first novel I believe.

It starts off very good, but at times, it felt quite lackluster. Concepts introduced sometimes get completely thrown away.

The original protags:

Spoiler

So, what happen with Yan Fei? Lol. Like he just completely disappeared. He is a horrible brother, but that's all. He did absolutely nothing except drive the point that the MC doesn't want anything to do with him.

The Original Male Protag, Sima? Well, he is a literally definition of a snake. He is an ab*ser, look at what he done to Yan Fei. f*cking as*hole needs to be locked up in a mental asylum. Who beats someone up only to say later, "I don't mean it." They are okay characters, but their endings were a mystery to me.

[collapse]

WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KISSING COUPLE IN THE RESTROOM? Honestly they were my favorite. Had more dynamics than the actual main characters of the story, LOL. I can't. They appear only about 10 chapters. But what's worse, they are completely forgotten.
Spoiler

If you don't know, they are the space pirates that join the army. But literally disappeared after they joined. Wtf.

[collapse]

When we get near ch 140-150, you begin to notice the author was rushing to end his/her novel. A lot of things get thrown in, and I'm just reading wondering what the actually f is going on. It's literally chaos. People are dying left and right. And the "final boss"...

Spoiler

seriously? Give it intelligence and make it a second level civilization? Wtf is this bullshit. Why did you have to add it near the last 10 or so chapters? It's so pointless as I believe the author was simply trying to increase the severity of the situation. Instead, to me, it felt like you just wanted to make him look super OP so to allow the ML shown when he defeats him. IDGI. We already know the ML is amazing, but at this point wtf. LOL. What is the United Peace Alliance for second level civilizations thingy? Why is this even mention? Why is the insect king trying to negotiate? How did we go from a ML and MC trying to realize their dream to this utter explosion of randomness in the end? This literally could have ended with ML defeating the insect emperor, and him returning to marry MC. That's it. I would've been satisfied but nope. It literally was kill Insect Emperor and doneso. No extras or anything.

[collapse]

Its a somewhat good novel, but I did not like the randomness near the end. What should have been MC and ML realizing their dreams and establishing their relationship, slowly became a clusterf*k of chaos at the end. Agh, endings are suppose to make you feel giddy and somewhat despondent as you might have finished a good novel. THIS. This made me feel like "huh? Wtf just happened?" <<less

178 chapters and I still feel I want a little more 😭

The translations were fantastic but I got impatient and MTL'd the rest of it. With all the talk of math and mech building, I thought my brain was going explode, but it was surprisingly not too bad to get through.

Anyway: I was not expecting this novel to be as excellent as it was. The growth the MC has throughout the novel was absolutely perfect. I love how he's so firm in having absolutely nothing to do with the people... more>> who hurt him in his last life. There was no redemption for any of them his eyes and even if there was, once he cut them off he's not interested in following up and literally couldn't care less if they die.

And at the same time, the new feelings and relationships he cultivates (his friends, teachers, classmates), was all so touching and I felt that it has a very natural pacing. He becomes popular because he's nice and will help out his classmates--him being a genius just broke the ice.

Yes, MC is OP but the author makes great use of it. He doesn't try to be the best in pharmacy, its just that he has 10years of professional experience rooted in a time when medical advancement was so great (thanks to his brother). In his past life all his knowledge was common knowledge, so when it translates to this new life, it seems greater than it is. His true genius only shines in the field he's actually interested in and wants to innovate. It's refreshing to see an MC that doesn't want to conquer it all.

It's also refreshing to see an MC that is more OP and remains more OP than the ML until the ending.

10/10 would recommend this novel. One of the best bl mech novels I've read. <<less

Beside the ending was poorly written and the villains didn't get the punishments I want it for them,

Everything seems good, MC and ML are adorable haha. They are so cute together. I love ML fall first that type of meeting first day was pretty romantic

There;s alot of funny and good humor monologues.

... more>> I love the professors fighting for MC all the time and the way they pamper him

The side characters best friends are pretty awesome too

Majority of the novel is MC absorbing and learning more about Mecha I didn't find it boring.

There's alot more that can be explored but it seems that they don't want cannon fodders villains to do much

Also wheres out
