Hmm, so I stumbled upon this novel when I ran out of VRMMO novels. I didn't check this before but this is actually a novel by Zhan Long author.

It's been a while since I read Zhan Long but as far as I remember that was definitely the better novel.

So we start off with the MC, Lu Chen, a pro player that was dethroned due to circumstances and started fresh in a new game. There are plot points in the beginning about assassination, virus, and abnormal strength, well, just ignore it.... more>> The real life part of this novel is nothing special and just overall pretty chill with some dramas.

The meat of this novel will be in the game, Heaven Blessed, the world and the system is actually pretty fun with a lot of varieties in skills, mobs, and areas. Unfortunately there really was nothing special with the main story line and the side quests are mostly standard material c0llection, it kinda make the world feel bland and are mostly used as a stage for PVP.

There are some big moments of PVE, especially when it comes to main storyline, but I was utterly disappointed by how it's mostly resolved with a plot armor.

Speaking of plot armor, the MC will (of course) get a lot of it. It's part of the fun and we as readers will come to enjoy the feeling of how the MC can do an almost impossible task and got rewarded for it. But then PVP comes, it can be in small scale or war scenario, and suddenly you see Mr. A or Mrs. B having the same level of heaven defying progress that the MC barely got through plot armor, it just made you scream "HOW?!" in your mind.

Of course this kind of development made the side characters more relevant, If there's anything the people that are mentioned in the beginning can still be relevant toward the end, it does make the characters rooster much more colorful and adds more to the story.

To this point the novel is an okay read, probably rated around 3 stars. But then problem starts when war scenario was introduced into the game. The author has a skewed sense of "scale" whether it be in terms of population, distance, money, etc.

You can see people pouring tons of money into the game at the level of multi-national investment and yet there's no visible real-life impact on the culture of the world.

There's no good sense of distance, even after the end I still have no idea how far an archer can shoot, how far spell can reach, how can a huge AOE can only hit frontliner but not the backline support, and the various ways characters can "escape" even after engaging in melee, these things keeps changing to make the story more thrilling.

There's also the tens of millions people at one time on a battlefield and yet it was all very organized where people can retreat as fast as they are marching. You can totally imagine it as 2 blocks clashing with each other instead of it being a dynamic army.

Close this all of with an inconsistent system that was added in the middle but abandoned/changed after for reasons like too complex, too hard to solve, too easy to solve, etc

These things just made this novel frustrating to read especially when it's about a game where data is very important. There's also some moments where the MC just straight out becomes an idiot when people around him got involved/hurt, it's annoying but not as "game-breaking" as the stuffs above.

In conclusion, I can't really recommend this novel, 2 stars. <<less

By far one of the worst novels I have ever read, every arc the author brings so many bs and s*upid decisions that you start to doubt the characters are smart enough to not die by forgetting to breath, and the nation war arc is so ret*rded that I just can't continue to read this, avoid this novel.

I don't often drop a novel but The Unrivalled is just one that I cannot keep reading. The main character is alright, he makes a lot of decisions that don't really make sense (faking death etc) but the biggest issue is that the author mistakes describing female characters looks as personality traits and they are all fine with males leering at them.

Overall the characters feel rather two dimensional, just support characters that are there either to admire the MC or villains to make the MC seem like a decent person

The most interesting plot point with the virus gets solved with no problem making it a pointless excuse to give him the undead swordsman class
