The earlier chapters of this story was actually quite interesting so I decided to pick up this novel. But somehow, the more story progressed, the more deteriorating it was.

There were several conflicts in this story but it's all resolved quickly and uninterestingly until I couldn't feel any satisfaction when it's done.

For example: the queen's conspiracy. I thought it would be a long war between the queen and ML but somehow, it's over earlier than what I've expected. Then I realized that the queen wasn't actually that smart and she couldn't hide her emotion well so I'm a bit surprised that she managed to scheme the emperor for years. It made me questioned the emperor and other noble's intelligence.

Another conflict was MC's paternal family. ML swiftly finished them without much efforts and MC's family couldn't even fight back. I also didn't like a prolonged revenge since it could drag the story a lot but still, I think the revenge towards MC's family was a bit too fast

I also didn't like how ML behaved. Surely he was a nice guy but he tended to run away when he couldn't solve his problem which was quite cowardly of him.

In the earlier of MC and ML's relationship, almost everyone knew that he loved MC but he kept denying it over and over again until I couldn't help but to wonder, why? What thing that held him back? It's not like he had a childhood trauma or something.

And when MC had a back luck because of ML's mana, instead of communicating with MC, he directly run away to the capital, making others thought that MC was abandoned. There's 1 year gap after that but it felt that he only left yesterday.

Aside from that, the romance was so slow until I felt bored waiting for them to finally make it official. I know they're legally married but they still acted like a good friend until near the end of the story. MC was clueless while ML was like a shy teenager so it's no wonder that their progress was in a snail pace. <<less

It's.... so boring.

It's not bad, but it certainly isn't good. I've read all the way through main story (the part I've stopped on would be more of the epilogue than the main story) and... I'm not even sure if anything happened (in terms of the couple's development and actual romance) ? The main conflicts to the couple's relationships get eliminated without much deliberation or contemplation by the main characters. In other words, the conflicts don't contribute to the growth of the characters or their romance.

For example, the family that ab*sed Laritte are punished off-screen by the ML Ian, who is a duke. He gives orders to make their lives hell, but we don't see it nor did he discuss it with Laritte (from what I remember). The family is the reason why Laritte has low self-esteem, but she never even gets to confront them herself about how they degraded her and ruined her sense of self-worth. Instead, it's handled by the ML who is simply fulfilling his sense of (righteous, but unneeded) anger.

The same applies for the second main conflict of the story. THAT plot serves not Laritte nor Ian (MC and ML respectively), but Laritte's mother Olivia, who abandoned her at the titular Count's residence. Laritte, in fact, is MIA for a large portion of this arc on account of her

being basically dead via parasitic sword user magic courtesy of Ian.

Olivia, the MOTHER of the main character, gets a lot of character development during this second arc. Even Ian, the male lead, doesn't get as much development and growth as Olivia. Wild!

After that second main conflict, there... isn't much else to keep the readers' attention. Which is bad, for obvious reasons, but the effect is compounded by the fact that both leads got very little meaningful screen time in the previous plot thread. The beginning does a well enough job of making me sympathetic to the leads (one is a victim of ab*se and the other was betrayed by a close ally), but the actual relationship between the leads is dull. It's like watching a flower bloom in real time. The flower is pretty, but my god I'll be sitting there for all of spring. <<less

Plot is a little basic, and utterly lacks any political complexity, but the MC and ML are so sweet you don't really mind. World building is interesting. The best bits are the truly heart touching scenes sprinkled throughout the story. Enough to make you smile through your tears.

Unfortunately, the first few chapter links are broken, so I missed some of the essential world building. : (It really makes me sad.

This is your typical, girl gets ab*sed and is forced to marry off to someone dead/with a bad reputation/was powerful. I’m personally not interested in stories like this but you do you boo.

Anyway, I’m not gonna wait for more updates since I think I’ve already concluded my conclusion. I’m the type of person to judge based on the beginning, if it gets bad later on.

Well, as you’d expect, I drop it. Either way, I’m not giving it a chance.

I officially dont like the ml. Instead of talking he run away.

There's nothing wrong with his childhood, I guess it was perfect, his parents die early as he was the duke now. I dont get why he get the notion when it was about the fl, his first thoughts was to run away. It happens multiple time that one time, FL wants to die. Its not that dramatic but yea, it was irritating to see ML is running away.

The translatotion is great, I honestly enjoy every translation by this particular translator.

The novel itself is something that I read in my own free time for my own enjoyment and I honestly don't have it in me to give a critical review as I'm not a particularly picky reader (Like about plotline, characters, bla bla bla)

I could only say it was enjoyable enough for me to read.

This Story really is something!

The neglected illegitimate child of a Count, Laritte, gets to marry a supposed dead Duke, who was falsely framed as a traitor, so that the legitimate child doesn't have to suffer.

From then on Laritte lives in the old abandoned mansion of her dead husband and tries to make a living from selling old, but still good furniture to buy food etc. But suddenly the blood soaked and injured Duke appears at her front door and she starts to nurse him despite his status as a traitor.
