I love how the author portrayed the MC and the ml. As I have been reading quite a lot of transmigration story, I love how the MC tried to go back to his original life and pondering about it. It seem real and I understand how the MC feel. He was lost and afraid at first. It was just like a dream since it seems unreal. I love how he keep saving the ML despite his character as a villain. He was such a nice person.

I love the romance. They... more>> didn't tried to hide their feelings. They both always tried to put others before them. It makes me happy as a reader. I really love the MC for choosing the ML in the end. <<less

I want to like this story. I'm still reading it. But the main character is, frankly, so s*upid he's likely to drown in the rain while gaping at the sky. He repeatedly acknowledges that the story he's familiar with is obviously not what's happening, yet still keeps expecting things to go the way he originally expected. Over, and over, and over again. There's no logic at all to this reasoning, it's just plastic trope that keeps repeating itself for convenience. Honestly, it has the setting and concept to be a... more>> decent story, it just needs 90% of the characters killed off and replaced with people that can at least tie their own shoes. I realize the author meant it to be tropey and obtuse, but they went too far. The other 10% are background characters. <<less

Spoiler

MC transmigrated into the drama that he acted as the main villain. He tries to follow the plot but nothing goes to plan and things deviate left and right. MC tries his best to steer it back on track but the end result is that mc's repeated attempts to save ML (as to not collapse the original storyline) makes ML falls in love with him. MC realizes that this world is much more detailed and complex than what was portrayed in the drama, and when ML confesses, MC decides to throw caution to the wind and reciprocates. Once feelings are established, they go through thick and thin to solve mc's numbered days as MC piled up a bunch of curses, ailments, and poison on himself to save ml. In the end, they realize that the shizun that trained them in their youth was actually the creator of the original novel, and that the events have been following the novel and not the drama script. MC decides to stay in this world and the two live out their days until their death. MC finds himself transmigrated back to reality and goes to find ML who has also transmigrated with him thanks to a system feature.

thoughts

ok this novel is edited mtl and in some parts it really shows (ie really weird names and terminology used) but overall it was decent. The first 3/4 of the story had good build up especially in regards to su yang's and gu feidi's relationship. Theyre sweet and respectful and understanding of each other, willing to do anything to save the other person. Lots of show and not tell scenes which I appreciate. There was a decent cast of reoccurring side characters, the cherry on top being that most of them were gay haha

the last stretch of the novel was so-so and felt rushed. The real killer were the extras, where su yang transmigrated back, and the whole story veered in the direction of some cheesy showbiz trope that left me going ???? It was so unnecessary. Wouldve preferred if the extras showed us post canon married life or the side cps, instead of whatever the hell that was, but whatever. I hate when transmigration novels force MC back to reality at the very end. Gives me 'and it was all a dream' vibes, not a fan. <<less

Great story, a novel I’d love to have on my bookshelf to re-read. I’m actually really happy that everyone had a happy ending. It does feel kind of... Too easygoing sometimes, but I like that in stories. I like more sweetness than bitterness.

Interesting characters, good plot, easy to read, and it never had me bored. The amount of gay couples popping up had me rolling, the comedy fit in well to the story.

Sigh...i got misled by some reviews... so to make this clear, MC transmigrated into the book world and it is realy a book world from start to end. Now that I said this maybe it's easier to understand why MC was dead set on fulfilling the plot. To be honest since MC transmigrated without a system it is unclear why he staunchly believes he needs to keep to the original storyline including his death, though that will change. Spoiler as to when he changed this behavior :

Chapters 60 to 80. It's more of an ongoing transition while falling in love.

The interactions between MC and ML have a nice flow. There is actually communication even while trying to hide some things so there are basically no misunderstandings.

When you reach the snow mountain part... please keep tissue around. I burned through a whole box there (not really but it feels like it).

You can feel that the writer had a storyline mapped out from the beginning and it makes sense. Unfortunately it was a bit bumpy at some points. I also felt like it was packed with so much high tension and emotional attacks that it tiered me out a bit. Still it kept me on my toes that I wanted to know what happens next. So while I'm not sure if I want to read this again, I'm happy I've read it at least once.

Oh and about people complaining about s*upid MC and ML... well I think they aren't s*upid but normal somewhat naive young people. They are better than others but not too OP. So yeah they might have brain holes happening but who hadn't at that age? I like this better than a 18 year old behaving like 30.

So this novel is no masterpiece but still really good. <<less

I can't wait for the last few chapters. Really like this novel a lot and the only negative thing I have to say is I wish it were more explicit lol.

I think the ML is great - he's a rare breed of a nice, upstanding guy in light novels without the blackbelly or coldness and he isn't dumb or oblivious at all. I especially like how he caught onto everything the MC did (even if MC isn't very smart in hiding things).

The MC is not OP, very relatable, realistic, fun... more>> to read and sad to see. His obliviousness and naïvety can be a wee bit annoying sometimes. For example, when the plot is clearly going offtrack, you'd stop to think if following the original script would be more harmful than beneficial, and you'd also question if you really will be guaranteed to return alive to your original world after dying in this fictional world. Except, the MC doesn't. He stubbornly follows the script at all times. I will say that he's not very bright as a character or person, really. But I do like how he's one of those rare transmigrated characters who miss home and has real reactions to the bloodthirsty chaos of a fictional xianxia world. The way he tries to be villainous and follow the script but fails with the ML seeing through him every time is funny and cute.

I'm just glad that it's not a tragic ending, though I'm one of those bastards who feel that a tragic end would make the bleak hopelessness of the MC and the underlying angst that much more heartbreaking. <<less

Agree with Dooka's point that

"Wth is with everyone suddenly leaving the super special school all at once? They make a huge deal about how it's amazing the ML could leave after just 2 years, what a genius! Ooh ahh!, but then the protag leaves ahead of him but no one cares, closely followed by everyone else. Yeah sure, makes sense 😫 and MC breaks all kinds of records, but does anyone care? No, the resources that were originally for the ML, because he broke records in the original story, still... more>> go to the ML, not to the person who ACTUALLY breaks the records."

THIS bothered me so much going forward with the story, even the MC himself didn't have much faith in his skills even when he was constantly surpassing his underestimation and no one around him bothered to be amazed much less praising his prowess like???

Did like that they had several powerful female characters (yay for a bl not to be in a world only full of men lol), MC missing/reminiscing his past life and its conveniences (rare even in transmigration tropes as MCs seemingly forget their past routines), the sweet and balanced relationship between the main leads, and supportive people around them (I don't like bls where it's them against the world or they just end up by themselves cos that's so lonely my community craving heart QAQ

All things considered it was kind of a drag to finish the midpoint onwards, perhaps due to the writing being not so compelling and the plot itself didn't leave much to be desired. It had a lot of little things I liked but the execution fell short of my expectations <<less

Making Gu Feidi canonically gay before meeting Su Yang. It's not one of those I'm straight, but gay for you trope. I'm tired of that trope. If you only ever like a guy, you're queer. If you liked women before and now you like a guy, you're queer. Case close

Overall, still an enjoyable story with slight angst, somewhat weak logic. Couple dynamic (green flags!) and fluff are the main selling points.

I tried reading this novel 3 (three) times!!! I can't do it, I'm sorry- despite the great reviews, I picked up this book 3 times and I couldn't finish it 3 times. The first time I dropped this book (ch 10) because I felt the plot was complex and deserved more energy and focus than I had. The second time I dropped this book (ch 20) because it was really wuxia heavy and I was more in the mood to read something modern and political. The third (and final) time... more>> I dropped this book (ch 52), I had completed finished vol 1 half heartedly and hoped vol 2 would pick up the pace; however, I ended up dropping it after a revelation. I want to say that this novel is well written and I can see what the author is trying to do. This novel is just not for me. Characterization and relationships are important to me and although the characters are not unlikable, they feel... dull? Flat? 2D? I keep reading moments in the novel that normally would make me feel emotional, but something about the delivery or how the characters react make certain moments of the book feel like simple motions. I feel completely bored and despite the admittedly interesting mystery the novel presents, I can't keep myself reading a novel where the characters bore me with their thoughts and actions. <<less

I love this novel! I want more of it after the extra. I was nervous about reading this due to the low reviews at the front page but I gave it a try and after a few chapters I was hooked. One of the complaints in the reviews was that the MC spent too long being obsessed with trying to follow the plot but... not really? He gave up on a female lead after he realized the girl was already in love and committed to someone else. Also MC and... more>> ML confess to each other a little after the halfway point, the rest of the novel was about them solving some issues in jianghu. Also unlike other novels, the MC and ML are not the strongest in jianghu, not even close. They're considered skilled and talented for their age range but there are several seniors way more powerful than they are. This novel was really well written and I felt the pacing was good, no particular plot holes or anything at the end. I want to read more from this author if all her novels are of this quality! <<less

I enjoyed it so much! I saw some plot holes but I didn't mind. It had been in my to-read list for quite some time and I regret that I didn't read as soon as I found this. It's really good! If you're into transmigration, older bottoms and no r*pe but not hard to please like me, this is also for you! My only complain is all the smut fades to black as usual. The censorship in danmeis is really saddening.

The story is not bad, but I did find myself somewhat bored towards the end. From chapter 80 to 97, I just pushed myself to read before giving up. The main couple gets together around the middle and then the rest just seems to be politics and trying to stay together and alive. I don't find that very entertaining.

I loved the first few dozens of chapters. It was fun, there was some comedy to it. But then it just kind of dwindled.

As for plot holes, there are definitely some, but... more>> I canot say I minded them too much. One weird thing at the beginning is the MC's reaction to his transmigration and his insistance on going by the script knowing it will lead him to death. I have no idea how he inferred that doing so will let him return to his world. Of course, his attempts at staying true to plot are where the comedy comes from, much better than if he was trying to hug the protagonist's thighs instead. But I wish there was some more logical reason for why he chose to go this way. <<less

OK I was invested.

Truly... you got me good in the first half. I salute you, Poplar Breeze, because I didn't think I'd be s**ked into this novel the way I did. Before you scoff & doubt, hear me out. We know how this "transmigrating into the villain of a book" business works. This isn't our first walk around these parts; we already can guess how the MC's going to attempt to stay in his character settings & avoid derailing from the supposed plot. We also know how his tactics of... more>> reviling the ML will only do the opposite by garnering his undivided attention. It's an overused plot setting, but it's still fun to see how different authors tackle it.

But I'm telling you man- THIS WAS EXECUTED NICELY. The plot was great, the characters were more dimensional than I presumed. The setting & worldbuilding was more interesting than the main CP, dare I say. The generational drama- ENTERTAINING. I have enjoyed my time with this novel greatly. No nonconsensual acts between the main CP, there was fairly good communication, no drawn out misunderstandings, & it was a GREAT SLOWBURN. You can feel the tension between the two; it is thick.

Also can we give a round of applause because for a cultivation novel, I didn't even get a headache. Bless the TL! <<less

2.5 Stars.

I was told there would be angst and tragedy. There was no angst and tragedy. There are some short parts that are rather sad, but overall, it's a very HE novel. Once the main couple gets together, there's literally no obstacle that hinders them.

Some parts of the novel are really drawn out and slow (especially the second half of the story). Whereas some other parts would've benefitted from extra explanation or more elaboration. The logic is a bit silly at times and fanfiction-esque, and there's a lot of deus... more>> ex machina used to resolve problems.

PurpleLy's translation was quite good though. <<less

  • So far so good. At first I really don't have any expectations for this (Blame that description). Now, I camp at the translation site. My five star rating is mostly influenced by personal preferences. You might like it, you might not. The MC is s*upid (I don't usually spend time on s*upid MCs) but this is s*upid on an endearing way :) Although the author tend to write this on a joking and fluffy manner, there's still some sadness lol. When MC acted this character, he only read the parts where there's him and he didn't really delve deeper into understanding the villain so his knowledge of the plot through the script isn't even that helpful. MC also isn't a very good actor because he's not really one, he's just an internet celebrity because of his face. He protects the ML because he thinks finishing the story and dying is the only way he could go back to his world.

I'm hoping the essence of the novel will remain and even nurture in future chapters. Waiting for more chapters >.<

I really enjoyed this book. It should be rated a tiny bit higher in comparison to the other novels. It is a typical clan/sect rivalry storyline with an enemies to lovers plot but not extremely and completely dominated or disturbed (like I felt in s*um villains saving system) by the transmigration part. It is full of plottwists and changes places in a healthy timing and pacing. There are enough characters introduced, but not so many that you need a list to write them down.

The story begins well, with comedic undertones, modern-day references in an ancient xianxia setting, transmigration, and evident discord between the MC and ML right from the start.

The MC, originally an actor, transmigrates into the drama he was portraying, albeit with a vastly different-looking cast. Initially, he comically attempts to adhere to the script, repeatedly provoking the ML under the misguided belief that completing the story and succumbing to the ML will transport him back to the modern world. This unfounded theory becomes the MC's stubborn fixation for over 75% of... more>> the book, leading him to put himself in harm's way due to his disbelief in the authenticity of the transmigrated world.

While intriguing initially, the MC's persistence and obtuseness become increasingly grating. What initially seemed cute transforms into tiresome behaviour. The arch-rivals dynamic promised in the title is, at best, clickbait. The MC doesn't harbour genuine hatred for the ML; rather, he zealously plays his 'villain' role, and the ML's disdain for the MC is short-lived.

Returning to the theme of 'insisting on completing the plot, ' many of the MC's self-sacrificial actions that eventually make the ML fall for him lack sincerity. These actions are driven solely by the MC's commitment to completing the story, rescuing the ML repeatedly because he believes he can't return home if the ML dies prematurely. While one might expect a romantic twist where the MC deviates from the plot due to genuine affection, it never materializes. The MC acknowledges his feelings for the ML without the profound realization or romantic development that such a situation warrants.

Despite a backstory involving the main leads' parents, by the time I reached 80% of the book, my interest in these characters had waned as they seemed more like caricatures than relatable individuals.

Although the story is well-translated, its convoluted nature prevents it from receiving a higher rating. <<less
