In her previous life, she treated her mother-in-law like her own mother, treated her husband with respect and affection, devoted herself to her stepson and stepdaughter, and looking back at herself, Guan Suyi had a clear conscience. But in the end, she was ruined, exiled, and died alone. When she was about to die, Guan Suyi summed up her tragedy with one phrase: doing too much and saying too little.

After rebirth, she decided to say nothing, put on the hypocritical face of a good wife and mother, strive for the reputation of a gentle and virtuous character, bury all the enemies in the pit, and ask them to be grateful and remember her as their benefactor for the rest of their lives.

I'd say it's a 3. Ch90 rlly killed the vibe ngl, like s*xual harassment is smth rlly chills the ML for me.

As this is a regression of a fairly traditional woman, it does very well in showing how willing she is to stay married until the very last moment, and doesn't rlly consider actively seeking revenge. But then we arrive at the point of contradiction in the chara development. She overlooks the ML soo much, his behavior that is, and moments that really require her to rage or despair or... more>> disdain, just have her being very pro ML and settling into her given role without much feeling or thought about the driving force behind her situation.

Then we have the motherhood is godhood is willing sacrifice ideology, even tho one character is shown as clearly the opposite, it sends a pretty clear mssg overall, of good women being more than willing to sacrifice themselves and their lives for even the concept of a child, and those who don't, well, clearly worse villains than a rapist.

Also sorta makes you go hmm, when the merchants are shown as dumb and s*upid and without foresight, but their family has been having a good time for a few generations, so like, what exectly am I right.

There were more things I wanted to mention but they sorta slipped my mind cause it took me like 2 weeks to come back and write a review. <<less

This is gold.. why do people make it 4.2? This is clearly 5.0 at least 4.8, they had good character development, our FL is smart, and they got much evidence that she is smart, carefree, and had rebellion bone on her. When u read this don't bring your moral value into it ... more>>

in the theory she cheating with the Emperor (ML) behind her husband, but who cares? Her husband was tr*sh, maybe not completely tr*sh but... while the relationship concept was similar to the novel I forgot the title in nuts, the husband was not dead and she transmigrate into the story, take care of the children and got to meet someone new... Her brother-in-law likes her, and the children help other people to match with her and not their father (idk but I feel the story was tr*sh) but the hell did this concept used here I got hooked up I need to applause the author for this, and ofc our translator, what amazing job

Just went in and I am feeling quite sick of the live story.

MC rebirthed but still got married to the s*um husband due to ML. The s*um husband family is so sickening I can't bear to read more.

I actually really enjoyed the philosophies and the fact that the FL was an unabashed 'standing bookcase'. Even in exile in her first life, she was still a scholar to the bones. I like that the author didn't try to soften this to make it more in line with the classic tropes. I like that the ML (I hope) is such a shameless guy because otherwise I don't think he could get through her maze of proprieties. I learned a lot about the philosophies discussed and their implications from this... more>> story and the insight of seeing it through the lens of the legal systems impact on women. I also like that the original in-law family were realistic and selfish in their awakening to the FL's true value and am looking forward to seeing how the author handles balancing the FL and ML's relationship with the FL's desire to respond to the sincerity the Zhao family seem to be showing. Also, how the ML and FL handle the issue of the harem. <<less

Some of the best intrigue. Genuinely smart main character. Solid. Very captivating. I can't stop reading this, I really wish I would have waited for it to be completely translated. The translation quality is pretty awesome especially for something with the amount of references or metaphors or whatever that this contains. I recommend giving it a shot.

Honestly for a bit I preferred she not end up with ML. I think the connections she made with her family are pretty important and idk how I feel if we lose them... more>> from story. Those worries were mostly resolved. Had about four chapters where I honestly felt ML touched boundaries of being scummy. Like ignoring boundaries. Thankfully not too excessive but made me cringe a bit

Spoiler

She brings momo with her.

Still feel a tad bad for mother in law.

Do they split / when?

Spoiler

Yes, at chapter 111.

Ends well. I enjoyed extras, the pacing on those was excellent. <<less

I mtl’ed the last chapter just for the sake of knowing who the male lead and I am satisfied. Hopefully translator will continue this work until the end. It’s so so good but too deep for simpleton like me. Loool.. Sometimes I need to re-read the sentenses or just skip some altogether but still the whole story intriguing me so hard. Totally recommending this.

I am a huge fan of Casanovanic Bookworm. Have read all author's works so far, really appreciate every each of them.

This novel has a unique style with a strong and self reliant characters. Though, maybe the MC is too capable for my taste. She is perfect in every way possible, with a smooth road of faceslapping everyone around her. Too ideal, I guess.

This novel is full, I mean F. U. L. L. On Sofictstry, but I skipped most of them, they don't actually influence the main plot.

So far, the story is good. It was heavy with all the philosophies mentioned but the translator did a good job in explaining most of it to be understandable by me (considering that I hate philosophy lol). I also love how sharp MC's tongue is like how she was able to make those people became embarrassed and quietened down

The story is just boring. Like it wants to be a clever FL but she's too good at everything so whenever a weed tries to grow in her path she'll pave the road with metal so nothing can ever impede her again. Basically handles every issue in simple and crude manner. Handles it too fast and too completely for it to be entertaining. Everything comes way too easily. ALTHOUGH she only begins to handle things like that in the 2nd half of the story, so there's that. The story drags... more>> on for too long as well.

The first half was fun:

Spoiler

She marries the her original husband again because the ML issued a Imperial Edict 🤦‍♀️. But her face slapping the previous family was very enjoyable and after getting well into the second half of the story, I kinda wish she stayed with the original husband... idk what to tell you guys. It might be because he was a more interesting character than the ML? The ML is kinda exhausting with all the love bombing, I also hate that he calls her madam. Personal opinion but it's just not a cute pet name coming from his mouth 🤷‍♀️

[collapse]

Basically just boring and the FL will never be Shen Miao (RMEML) or Cheng Yujin (GNU) which is what I was looking for. Forever the goats of ancient rebirth FLs lol. There are people who enjoy stories like this but I wish there was a review that said this before I read it. It's fine for a casual read but if you are looking for a story to fill the gap of GNU or RMEML this isn't it. <<less

The main story was excellent and deserved five stars. However, the extra chapters were terrible and unpleasant, which significantly lowered my rating. I expected these chapters to explore the life of the protagonist's stepdaughter, but instead, the author took a completely different and poorly executed direction.

The most problematic aspect was how the protagonist was forced into a relationship she clearly did not want, with the male lead being unjustifiably redeemed. Instead of presenting a relationship based on mutual interests, the author repeatedly tried to justify a toxic character, making the... more>> narrative uncomfortable and unconvincing.

I would have preferred that these extra chapters didn’t exist rather than getting an ending that diminished the original story. <<less

. It's a breath of fresh air because she is not super over powered but she is not a damsel in distress that always needs saving. It's the right mixture of being strong and independent but still struggling because of her gender and status in society which makes the story more realistic in terms of its time setting and world building.

The story has its funny moments too so the reader is not bored from the political drama.

Really, I would love to read this again.

The synopsis is misleading. She didn't actually act like a hypocrite but she acted virtuous on her terms. There's a lot of Confucianism to be read and I don't understand it all but this story heavily relied on politics and the MC's smartness.

First, each chapter might be long since there are extremely long paragraphs explaining different beliefs and the FL's thoughts. Although sometimes she goes against those beliefs, she pretty much has those virtues memorized. She's super smart, observant, and empathetic. This makes you think about how she ended up... more>> like that on the last timeline. Overall it's a good read if you want some food for thought or just want to re-evaluate the Schools of Thought in general.

Now for spoilers

Spoiler

ZL is the nominal husband of the FL. He's so weak-willed that even in the current timeline (with the strong-headed FL) he can't decide for shit. He can be easily controlled even though he's the head of the house. He eventually saw FL's value but not after a lot of twists and turns lmao (which was too bad). FL never developed feelings for this man.

ML on the other hand regretted a lot of his actions (mainly for pairing up ZL and FL). He was manipulated into that decision so he chased FL. It was a lot of chapters where he was regretting and chasing so I guess it's okay? I eventually found his charm appealing because he was groveling so much lol. It's not angsty enough that I can't forget what he did so what he did was forgivable. Many also teased him because of what he did and the FL did not forgive him that fast either.

[collapse]

In general, although this was not a light read, it could be an easy read if you like this kind of stuff. I like pretty and smart FLs that can hold their ground. Even without the ML, I enjoyed this story. 4.5/5 <<less

Ended up dropping this because of how much I disliked ML.

First off he's one of those MLs who starts being a r*pey pe*vert half way through.

Second off he's one of those MLs who supposedly became a better person after meeting MC but really just went from only caring about himself to only caring about himself and MC. So still a jerk.

... more>> Third off he's one of those MLs who always has the upper hand in his relationship with MC. Which is personally a huge turn off.

All that made me not want to keep reading, which is a shame because I otherwise enjoyed the story.

It did also have some other flaws. FL sometimes comes off a bit, "here's how my OC would fix ancient China, " and after a while you notice that none of the other female characters are really in her weight class. Like it's not really impressive that she's the most scholarly female character considering she's the only female character from a scholarly family. <<less

This was a pretty sweet story. It's mostly full of like philosophical talks about confucianism and legalism and there were pages and pages of discussions I found myself skipping sometimes 🙃. It was still pretty interesting and the story only kinda annoyed me because it felt super rushed at the end. I don't like reading books where I'm told instead of shown. The additional story was pretty good too but also felt super rushed that I barely enjoyed it. Pretty solid read though

This is now one of my favorite all-time novels. I love the MC. ML is flawed, but seriously I am so sick of perfect leads! We're trying to read an engaging story, not choose our own husband. MLs (and MCs) don't have to be perfect and are more interesting when they aren't. He has character growth and flaws and strengths and it's interesting.

I also enjoyed the mix of philosophies in the story. Kudos to the translator as that could not have been easy!

First this book involves lots of Chinese philosophy so if you are looking for fluff or even a mostly romance or harem intrigue you wont like it. The first time I read it I felt the philosophy was interesting but the second time I felt it was a bit wordy.

Second he title "Who Cares?" is misleading. After a rebirth to a second chance of life somehow the MC is fated to still marry her husband of the past life. From the start you can tell she still cares very much... more>> about how she is perceived because she still has to uphold her maiden family's "face" and she still cares about the step childrens development and the households financial situation and reputation like she did in her past life, but because of her dissapointment from the last life she is just no longer emotionally involved. She only cares that her husband and mother in law dont cause her trouble and she is no longer emotionally invested in any of the relationships. Ill make it clear that this is not a revenge story. She doesnt enact revenge. She actually does the same things as in the last life with a little more even, so why is this time different? Its different for 2 reasons.

1 The things she dared not say in the last life because of propriety and because she was a woman, she said all of them clearly in this life so she cant be misunderstood.

2 The things she did in the last life because it was her responsability without others asking for it or knowing why were all not valued by anyone. This time she lets them know why clearly and tells them clearly they have to value it and thus value her efforts or she just wont do them again. She doesnt take it as her duty. Everything has a price and when people dont know the price they will feel what you do and therefore you have no value. Its why we women still cant escape the falacy that stay at home moms dont "work". They have always been some of the hardest workers in the household but because its seen as our inherent responsibility no one values it. Not even the moms that homeschool are seen as valuable contributers. In this life she makes the family know her worth, which is something that was missing in her last life and that is the main takeaway of this novel.

In the end because she shows her value in public when debating philosophy, her father and and grandfather get promoted (i felt like this was a bit much but whatever) and the emperor falls in love with her. Because she shows her value in the household the mother in law, husband, and step children all have to acknowledge her. They have to pay her, not with money, but with respect. As the "fairer" s*x that is always devalued, isnt that what we all want? This is really the first time for me to see a female MC "revenge" in such a righteous way. She is more morally upright than anyone else. As the noblest and most knowledgable person she never has to dirty her own hands because the enemies basically just throw themselves into the pit.

The character development I liked seeing in this novel is that of the the stepdaughter. Her character is originally quite smart and crafty and is one of the small antagonists. Eventually with the MC's strict efforts this crafty stepdaughter also becomes knowledgable and can finally recognize who is really good to her and can direct her trickery to the right people. <<less

Loved it. A wonderful story, lots of philosophy talk going on but the romance bits were sweet and the additional story after the main was like a cherry on top:))) Really recommend to read it and skipping some of the reviews with bad rating, I skipped on starting this novel a few times because of that so I suggest just trying this out and then deciding for yourself, this story is an absolute gem❤❤❤

OMG I really found a gem 🤯🤩 after a long search. I can’t describe how addicted I am for Chinese novels specially historical ones. My favorite ones are ‘chaos of beauty’, rebirth of malicious empress of military lineage, to be a virtuous wife. Finally after reading so many mediocre reads I finally found a gem 🥹. I can’t wait to finish this book.

I quite like it, and the translator does such a good job translating it, especially despite how complicated the book is. I like the fl; she is incredibly smart and knows when she should or shouldn't take action, and every single revenge is very satisfying. Though it is not perfect as there are many things I wish were different, but the ML is def not one of them. I started the book thinking he was going to be the worst because of the comment, but he's not that bad--at least... more>> not as bad as the comments make him seem to be, I quite like him. I do think there are some things that some people will not like but keep in mind that this book is a historical fiction set in ancient china, there will be some things that are not agreeable to the modern mindset but you should know what you're getting into when you decide to read historical fiction anyway. <<less

This was a very different sort of rebirth story! The male lead wasn't my usual type, more of a himbo, but it works. I loved all the intellectual conversations between him and the FL even if I had a hard time understanding some of the legalist/Confucianist concepts. Also thank god her OG husband never has a chance. The dude was beyond a wet blanket. He gave me the twitches. XD

I do feel like this could've been shorter. The main story ends around chapter 175 and then we get a cool... more>> novella-length re-do where the wet blanket husband is reborn instead. I liked seeing that no matter what lifetime or rebirth the FL and the ML will always find their way to each other. <<less
