tl;dr this is a PSA for the readers. The author has made it clear that this is ab*se and he's r*ping her, but some readers don't seem to get this and I'm genuinely concerned for some of y'all.

I'm sorry I have to be so blunt but I've seen too many comments of people saying it's only "it's forceful", or "he's acting like a r*pist". No, he is a r*pist.

I don't want anyone starting to read this having any misconceptions about what's happening, and if this kind of story is not your cup of tea (it sure isn't mine hence why I've only read the chapters available and will not be continuing) then it's okay not to read it.

If you do end up reading this and enjoying it, then I hope you can still acknowledge that while you may find it "exciting", "hot", etc. To read, that this kind of behaviour irl is disgusting (I know I sound patronising but I swear to god I've seen too many people legit think this kind of behaviour is good and can't distinguish this from established BD*M scenes/ r*pe fantasies where consent and safe words are pre-established).

Regardless of how the author is going to turn this into a romantic relationship (I personally can see the story going in that direction and hate the thought of it, so I'm quitting while ahead) it does not diminish the fact that he's her r*pist and has manipulated a situational where she can only choose between death and owing him s*xual favours. And I can already foresee the number of readers who will overlook his s*xual *ssault later on because "of well he loves her, he did it for a reason, and now they're together so it all worked out" (I really hope I am wrong though) <<less

I wanna give 0 but unfortunately 1 star is the lowest. This story is nothing than just an abusive, male dominant toward a woman. Tbh, I dont even know if ML even likes her. FMC is just a broken puppet. The ML is ab*ser, r*per, and that sort of things. The story depicts how lowly women status can be. FMC is the highest monarchy and yet she had to suck his d*ck to survive. Then what about other women who poor? I giving a warning, if you are prideful, self-love... more>> women, you may not enjoy this because you can read that there is no choice for fMC to retaliate without bowing down to ml. She is a puppet and he is the player. Anyway goodluck reading it and review it yourself.

The story is interesting. The plot is good considering the dark love theme. And there's some major character developments from both leads. But if you're not into abusive male leads and how they later regret kind of stories, stay away from this one because it's very dark. I personally liked the story because of it's dark theme. The translators are doing an amazing job. Initially their relationship is so abusive with Aran being subjected to unfair s*xual ab*se. But I won't call her weak, she's a puppet Emperor. Like no... more>> one respects her and everyone knows the real power is Enoch. Though she doesn't want the position, still she's the best emperor out there. She actually worries about her subjects and tries her best to do something good for them even in her unfavorable position. She takes her duties seriously even after Enoch tells her to take it easy and just be a doll Emperor. She only wished to live and for her to do that she needed to do what Enoch wanted (which is being his s*x s*ave and the emperor of the nation). Loving Enoch is almost impossible in this story, because what he's done to Aran is beyond redemption. But he's also a very interesting and complex character who makes you want to keep on reading to know more about him. And what I truly liked about this story was that Aran didn't forgive him easily. She punished him for all the ab*se and humiliation she had to face because of him. It was a bit difficult going through the story as major chunk of it is Enoch being an absolute as*hole and hurting Aran because of his pettiness and jealousy. But he does realize his wrongdoings and regrets what he's done. But by that time, it's too late. As a reader, you feel no empathy towards him. Their relationship is toxic but I won't just reduce it to that. It has a lot of complexity underneath it, like you have to pull out layer out of layer to understand why they are the way they are in their relationship.

Enoch and Aran were engaged when they were children. After Enoch's parents committed treason, Enoch would have met the same fate as his parents but Aran saved him because she loved him. Gradually Enoch also falls in love with her. But after the emperor's death, her brothers take the throne and to sell their sister off they needed to keep Enoch away from her. Enoch has a traumatic time because of Aran's family but he blames Aran for not protecting him from it. He blames everything on her. The place is so brutal that it makes him twisted. He forgets about Aran's kindness. Even though it's traumatic for him, but that still doesn't give him a reason to make Aran's life a living hell. Because she also lived a hell under her brother's rule.

There is nothing romanticized in their relationship. Aran didn't like him and she was very scared of him initially but after he apologizes and wants her by his side, she straight away refuses, having no heart to deal anymore of his bulsh*t (an honest reaction what's expected from a victim). But sadly she had to marry him eventually under the pressure of other nobles. They wanted her to marry and produce a heir so she thought it would be better to marry him as they've already indulged sexually. I was really sad reading this. Author tried to redeem Enoch by giving him some incurable disease. I just couldn't sympathize with his suffering. And Aran still forgave him in the end as she's always deep down loved him. Though I was not happy with the ending but she finally got to be happy with her daughter. So I was satisfied with that.

But it was really a satisfying to read how much Enoch rolled in regret and never got his love reciprocated back for a long time. So basically if you're into angst you might like this story. <<less

Somehow the M side is deeply intrigue. I don’t know why yall keep saying that this is a non consensual s*x. She literally said that she’d rather live and suck his d*ck for the rest of her life (poor Aran) . But I live for this novel !!! Enoch on the other hand, I got to say that he’s such a tease. I gave it 3 star because the writing is not bad but I couldn't continue. It was just so uncomfortable and I had to quit reading it, which is a shame because I was hoping it to be a smutty, worry free story. I couldn't with the FL saving ML life and he basically took out her entire family, then gave her two options which is to die or be his s*x s*ave.

This is a non-consent smut novel - if explicit r*pe disturbs you, then this is not the novel for you.

We are only 8 chapters in and the storyline/background has barely been set up so far, so I hesitate to review this. From the disturbing scenes and emotional set-up, I think this novel is going to be quite dark. There are elements of r*pe, non-consensual BD*M, and psychological ab*se so far. I like some BD*M in my smut, but even this has left me feeling sad for the MC. I'm waiting eagerly to understand Enoch's character and motivations. This is being quite an interesting and twisted read so far. Is somber and there are puzzle pieces being scattered here and there.

There is nothing romanticized in their relationship, is bluntly implicated that is ab*se. He is the driving force of the story nonetheless, precisely because he is a sick fvck, and wasn't always like that, it seems. I don't like him, but he makes an interesting character.

The problem I find with this book is that it tries to excuse r*pe. The heroine of the story is r*ped multiple times and that completely fine to have in a book but where I take issue is with is how her rapist is written and presented. There a many times in the book where the Duke is written as the good guy. When he defends her, supports her choices, etc. Nothing excuses r*pe. Nothing. No matter how much you suffered, it does not excuse you taking that pain out... more>> on others. From what I've read about the book, it seems that his dark past is later explained as an attempt to make the reader sympathize with him. This is such a dangerous message to promote. It promotes the idea that if you have suffered, your actions can be excused. I do feel bad for what has happened to him but that does not mean him raping her is excused. <<less

So, chapter 11.

Up until now I have to say... r*pe all the way.

Rape, coercion, threats. Here we have a very clearly traumatized woman at mercy of a rapist who has the gal to think he is doing the best for her "because she is incapable of taking care of herself".

She wasn't feeling well. He r*pes her repeatedly until she can't get of the bed so "she can rest". She is sick, but wants to read a book about being a better monarch. He r*pes her again while she is shivering... more>> with fever so she will rest.

He is arrogant. Her self esteem and confidence are shit.

Their very first time was while she was covered in blood, beside her brother's corpse, while under threat "Will you chose to die with honor or live while sucking my dick?"

Yeah. The story? She fell in love with him. His family was convicted of treason, but she pleaded and saved his life, cared and nursed him.

Her family died and her brother send him to war and tried to sell her at the highest bid. He raised an insurrection and she was the last survivor in the bloodbath, with that choice.

Then she became a puppet. And was r*ped constantly. Her choices and efforts undermined. He was the true regent and she truly believes he would make a better monarch than her.

It IS a r*pe story. And a Stockholm Syndrome story too. Glad some of the comments warned me before.

Sadly, there is no growth for her. And not any for him either. Just trying to justify r*pe and cruelty. <<less

This is literally the first Korean novel I have read where the initial relationship between MC & ML is where ML is in every sense r*ping the MC. I'm kind of worried for the ones who are willing to excuse ML's actions and think there is some way for him to redeem himself at some point. ML is toxic waste at this point.

I'm really worried for the ones who are stating this isn't non consensual. He literally forced her to chose s*x or death. Coerced consent isn't actually consent. And consent can be taken back at any time. I haven't seen one instance where MC wanted his advances. Remember that anything besides an enthusiastic yes is not actual consent. <<less

This is not your fluffy love story but dark and disturbing themed one. So better pack up if you are not into it. But for my kind, this is a good read so far.

I just hate to see readers giving low rate complaining about r*pe and cruel characters when its clearly been tagged above. Some just manage to read 10/less chapters like okay??

Most of reviews talks about criticism against characters. And they give low rate for MCs cruel personality. Hey you cant be expecting saint and fluppy characters on a... more>> dark themed novel?? They are rating on characters personality in AN INCOMPLETE and yet to dwell on char development phased novel rather than on plot and quality of writing itself 😭 As a reader who uses ratings as basis of my reading list, you all are casting out possible readers whose onto this kind of plots.

No no nooo I got genuinely hurt reading this I know I should have read the tags bla bla bla and usually im not that sensitive but this✋. Its non stop r*pe again and again idk who could enjoy it... I am enjoying the story so far, the translation is superb, and it is truly dark. I want to know how this ends. FL suffers a lot, and the ML is actually mental. I love it.

Wow. The author certainly has a unique talent—one for wrapping blatant r*pe fetishes in a thin, glorified veil of romantic obsession and unconvincing pining.

Let me clarify: I've read my fair share of questionable stories, especially in the realm of Korean web novels, and usually, I let these tropes slide because they are at least acknowledged in a negative light at some point. But here? From the very beginning to where I stopped reading, the narrative keeps hammering in the idea that everything happening to the female lead is "for her... more>> own good, " while aggressively selling the male lead as "caring" and "lovesick."

Excuse me, what? A sick, feverish woman being repeatedly r*aped until she's bedridden is supposed to be romantic or beneficial to her? How is this even remotely acceptable?

Then there's the male lead, a revolting excuse for a character. He's written as if he's incapable of doing wrong because his every action is allegedly out of love and concern for the female lead. This deluded savior complex somehow translates into him knowing what's best for her, better than she ever could. (Which also tries to be justified through the very weak, very superficial excuse of 'revenge' on the ML's part. But if I am being honest, the entire things was so poorly executed you might aswell have walked in on a hentai script with no sense. It felt more like the author needed as excuse to pour out her fantasies without 'judgement'.) And the worst part? The female lead eventually falls in love with him, accepting and even justifying his vile, controlling behavior. It's not love—it's Stockholm Syndrome, plain and simple, dressed up as character development. (I jumped to a few chapters near the end, just to find out if the FL had escaped this disgusting r*pist... Which was a dissapointment, obviously)

This is, without a doubt, one of the most unsettling romances with such concepts I've read in a long time, rivaled only by the likes of 'Haunting Adeline', 'Cry, better yet Beg', 'Profundis' and 'Roses and Champagne'. The normalization of ab*se and manipulation, disguised as care and affection, is downright appalling. Romantic? No. Hot? Absolutely not. Disgusting? Completely. <<less

This is not for teens who are reading smut even though they're still not allowed to.

The story is great. If you want a story where the ML only have his interest on the FL then this is for you.

The ML here have two persona (he's not sick lol) : the servant and the master.

Master-the one who dominates the FL (especially on bed rawr).

Keep reading the story till the latest chapter, so you'll know the thoughts of ml. It's actually fun cause it's not your typical possessive ML who only thinks of "the FL is mine"

His mind is in chaos.

As you read, it gets interesting. It's fun to read especially if you already know his personality. He is head over heels for the fl, there's no doubt with that, but he keeps on denying his feelings or let's say he keeps on ignoring that "unknown" feeling.

At first, he only desires one thing and that is her obedience. But, his desires gradually changes. And that's when you know he's madly in love. He asked a widowed woman about a gift for a lady and he did it, he's even excited to see her smile.

There's a lot of good points, I swear!

Be an adult reader! Ignore the small ratings and judge the story yourself. Those who gave a 1-star rating are probably teens who are new to this kind of romance.

Okay, this novel is not for you if you are not a fan of the dark romance genre. R*pe, ab*se is there so if you are not of it, it will be a waste reading this. Anyway since I'm a big fan of dark romance I recommend this with 5 stars. I read the whole thing within only 1 and a half hours, trust me when I say the storyline is superb, dark and spicy. So in the story, FL is quite weak but that makes the story more interesting... more>> for me. Actually, I want to know what exactly the ML is thinking about the FL, because we don't get the POV of ML here, but that makes it a lot more interesting. I'm dying here without any new chapters to read.
