All in all, this was a pretty good read. I enjoyed much of it, so much that I recommend you start it and decide for yourself. Zhan Long will do one of two things. It will grab hold and a few days later you'll wonder why you stink and got a week or so worth of hair to shave. Or it won't, some things will come off annoying and shallow causing you to drop it and not look back. Oddly enough, I myself fit into both columns.

The most average sort of novel I have ever read. It isn't bad and can certainly be enjoyed by people who like vmmorpg stories with a pinch of double life but in the end I find it a bit lacking the all the aspects and feels like it doesn't have any area where it truly shines.

It can probably be that it spreads itself too thin with having so many things together. A true jack of all trades but master of none.

Main female leads go through a slight change as they begin to like MC at the start, but then its just endless filler flirting. The leveling and getting stronger aspects of the novel are interesting. New skills and all are always cool.

but the plot is murky and revolves around the MC developing his guild by the repeated sequence of OP Quest–>OP Drops–>OP PK—>Guild Level Up. Its quite repetitive and every 100 chapters past chapter 250 can be summed up as

MC gets more OP, gets a bigger harem, gets a bigger guild. Then theres the weird, random mutant hybrid criminal arc that’s just heading nowhere.

Its basically following the formula of MC gets asked to help—>Beats everyone up—->20 chapters later--->MC gets asked to help—>Criminal gang wins--->Back to first step

Of course this is after the guild is started up, roughly 250+ chapters in. <<less

Well it starts good then gets boring later I only didnt drop this coz of MATCHA, I really like her character and the way the author describe her when its her turn to do something :P.. I really do hope that they put more effort in to the romance. For example like Xiao Yao and Wan er have s3x or somethin like that. Well, I guess thats it And I do recommend the 1st 150 chapters to all readers.

but it may be the author's 2nd best written novel next only to the Alchemist God so you might have to give it a chance so..

first disappointment at first the biggest “?” how can weak healer compete in this game, like LMS how scluptor progres. but the author end up making him warrior then he just became strong and start kill this ppl, got this and that secret skill, and became powerfull warrior.....

and 2nd disappointment when they start story about halfass police vs werewolf in real world...

i dont have comment about this one it just sucks.

I wouldnt mind reading about those silly IM DA STRONGEST escapades in VRMMO, but the RL martial arts part of the plot is ridiculous. Pros:

- VRMMO part is rather good, mostly focused around PvP battles.

- Adventure story is so-so - even though it can`t be compared to LMS or Ark, but it is still decent enough.

- Battles of wits are more common than overpowered faceroll ones.

- Fleshed out world, most of the dialogues and actions are in-character.

Cons:

- At ~300 ish chapters whole future plot holds no suspense anymore.

- 'Real life' battles are somewhat simillar to those cheap asian action movies from 70's. Wuxia part of this novel is much weaker than VRMMO part.

- Romance part is rather shallow while MC is getting more and more girls highly interested in him. Shallow harem, in other words.

- MC's luck is 98 out of 100, as usual. He gets everything due to his high luck, in the end.

Personally, I dropped it once it started focusing on wuxia part more and more.

It was a decent read until ~200ish chapters, but now - its just boring. <<less

I don't have much to add that other reviewers haven't touched on, but there is one point that really sealed my dropping of this novel. You can have terrible game design (97% realism my ass, the combat is practcally turn-based with how predictable it is), you can have s*upid characters, the MC can be covered in plot armor from head to toe. While you will never have a particulary good novel with those faults, it can be a fun, non-serious read to pass time.

What made me unable to enjoy the... more>> story was the constant, ingrained sexism. Every woman in this story is either beautiful or ugly, and their appearance is talked about nearly every time they are mentioned, especially their breast size. Not only antagonists as a taunt, but even the main characters thoughts constantly mention "34D" lady, the person he is a bodyguard for, and is often distracted by staring at her breasts! A man "having" a sexy girlfriend is a point of honor, saying nothing else about her character, and even as the author is talking up this police woman, the "princess of the police force, " the author says that if she wasn't as skilled and had a high position as she did, she would "have belonged to someone a long time ago"! Of course, the author didn't fail to describe that "she was exremely beautiful and was at least a good 7 points." (chapter 63)

This is barely any of the misogyny present in this novel. In the same chapter, the MC insenuates that the woman flirting with him is only doing so because of his expensive jacket, despite, ya know, appearntly being extremely hansome, and approaching the woman in the first place. I wont go on, but I just became fed up at that point, and thought, why am I still reading this? <<less

School beauties personal body guard. (Drama) Is based off of this novel. I can't believe that it wasn't given credit. The real life side of the book anyways. Hope they finish translations soon. I really liked the book but ive only rwad a little over 500 chapters so I can't give a conplete review yet.

ZL is one of those " what could have been.. " This could have been a legendary vr novel, sadly the author ruins it all.

Awesome 300 chapters or so, the filler arcs totally ruins it, the obsession with weapons and stats hampers it down. Sigh, what could have been one of the best, is reduced only as a pioneer novel for CN Vr and Gravity. Still remains in most of the old guys fond memories though. ZL could have been a legend, truly.

Not worth detail review. Can't continue after ch.200th. Just the repeated scenes that you can predict what'll happen 50 chapters ahead.

The 2-stars is for translation quality - it's good! Enough to cover the 50th-200th chapters of nothingness. BTW, the real SWAT officers are NOT this s*upid MC who has "idiot" tag pasted all over his body by the idiot writer. Do NOT extrapolate the MC of this story to the real people.

The writer is insulting the brave men who dedicate their very dear lifes to protect our peaceful life !

I wonder why no one said something about the level of sexism in this novel, the most I have ever seen. The story is mediocre (plot armor) and the level of sexism is really high. If you see females as equal than this novel is nothing for you!

Story goes downhill after MC swap his battle-healer into OP hidden job. Too much repetitions, plot armor everywhere. MC later got OP to the point no one dares to stop him.

A very good beginning and some good chapters but most of them are basically the same, fight a Boss, encounters villains slay them and loots stuffs while making the same jokes about breasts size and old single guys not finding a girlfriend.

If you read it just go through by skipping stuffs description and most battles against boss as they are all exactly the same.

It was a little interesting at the start when the MC was struggling but the author kept adding more and more imbalanced characteristics, and I don't mean just the statistical items. The MC is a martial arts cop in real life who charms glamorous ladies, drives luxury sport cars as part of his job while guarding those women while disguised as a college student, a godly MMO player who have very accommodating friends and yet still has time to go around doing special forces stuff every now and then. Well, Zhan Long - A novel that is hated and loved

It has its pluses, the story is quite unique and the MC is one of those badass EX Swat guys that can kick the **** out of people. Unfortunately, this does not really matter in the story since they are 90% of the time ingame.

Well, the first 200 chapters were good, after that the quality dropped. The author keeps writing about clan struggles, which clan has more troops, who has better equipment etc.

Has a nice start... and it is one of my favorite once.. but along the way, it gets really repetitive.

Soo.. I decide to skip a hundred chapter or soo... but what I found is an exact same situations happening like the hundred chapters before...

So I decide to drop it. Skip to read the ending spoiler and get it out of my system.

I stopped reading halfway through because it became super repetitive.

Interesting story and well done execution at the start though.

But it degraded as it progresses and led me to lose interest and drop it.
