After the Disabled God of War Became My Concubine

According to popular legend, the war god of Da Liang Huo Wujiu was once captured by the enemy country. His meridians were severed and both his legs broken before he was thrown into prison. In order to humiliate him, that dissolute ruler even gifted him to his cutsleeve brother as a concubine.

General Huo suffered a great deal of humiliation and insult. He bided his time for three years before the cicada shed his skin and he escaped back to Da Jing. After treating his crippled legs, he led his army in three months to storm the enemy’s capital, slaughter its emperor, raze its capital, and finally beheaded that garbage cutsleeve, hanging his head on the city walls for three whole years.

Since then, the world has been united.

——

Jiang Suizhou, a history department graduate advisor at a certain university, received a dissertation which used these unofficial histories of Huo Wujiu as their basis, and criticized the student to no end.

When he opened his eyes again, he had transmigrated into that cutsleeve prince from the stories.

There were lanterns and colorful decorations everywhere. A servant came, sending word that the disabled general of the enemy state had already entered the prince’s manor in his wedding sedan.

Facing down General Huo, who had been tortured to the verge of death, dressed in red wedding clothes, glaring balefully, Jiang Suizhou only then knew – these wild stories could also come true.

And cause him to be beheaded for public display, his head hung on the city walls for three years.

Jiang Suizhou’s only option was to provide for General Huo well.

The overt and covert attacks of the imperial court, the witless ruler’s every possible humiliations — he grit his teeth and absorbed it all, all in the hopes that in three years time, he could but keep this head of his.

Of course, he didn’t dare to even dream of asking this 9 ci* tall “concubine” to actually serve him.

However, before the three years was up, General Huo’s legs actually healed on their own.

Not only did he slaughter the useless ruler and unified the country, but he also forcefully blocked him in the room and insisted on fulfilling his duty as “concubine.”

The two leads are very likeable, both are intelligent and powerful in their own way. Their relationship slowly progresses from enemies to friends to lovers in such a natural way. Like the side characters too. Enough plot to satisfy me and keep me entertained throughout.

An unexpected story, having a concubine who turns out to be a special secret team,

begins with a misunderstanding with elements of comedy.

Overall the story is interesting and funny, a love that grows slowly and binds you.

After reading all the extras makes us feel satisfied, the writer doesn't forget all the supporting characters. Like the fanwai (extra) story about Luo Wanjun and Nie Cong's marriage... then the story of Jiang Suizhou's 2 secret staff, Xu Du and the beautiful and flirtatious Gu Changyun. I thought the two of them would... more>> become a couple, who knows that Gu Changyun would marry and open a business, and Xu Du would become an official and it turns out that they only have a friendly relationship.

Jiang Shun Heng's story made me very sad, I know how it feels to be ignored, taken advantage of and belittled, especially by his only confidant, his own uncle.

Give it a try, <<less

Love the main leads' interactions - such a cute couple! And smart. The antagonists are given some good background information to really make them stand out more than just being a cannon fodder villain. They made the wrong choices, pushing the main characters to counterattack, so must reap the consequences. The supporting characters don't have too much background story, but they help move the plot along very well.

The author is hilarious - the author's comments and the characters' inner thoughts really made this story more enjoyable.

The transmigration part isn't explained... more>> at all, but I can ignore it since I like the characters. Though I would have preferred more extras about the main characters' older lives - I imagine they remain overly sweet into old age, lol. <<less

It's been loooooong since I actually felt the need to write a review lol... It might be spoiler-ish so bear with me hehe~

Firstly lemme tell u I'm an extreme picky reader and would usually give up on novels halfway through which did go on for like months except this damn novel!!! Like srsly there's smtng really captivating about this novel to the point that I had to spend two sleepless nights sjdhuwdc

About the characters.... I LOVE THE MC!!! Albeit him being a little silly and naive but that's exactly what... more>> makes the ML interested in him hehe. Alright on the contrary MC is really smart and sensible and he's definitely not the one to be fooled and trifled with except for his ml. On that note our MC has really got some knack for solving and manipulating schemes according to his taste. While him acting silly is all due to certain war god confusing him thoroughly. As for the ml, he's a very pitiful person in the entire novel which explains his hatred. Also his major character development was really satisfying to read.

Spoiler

It was also really funny to see how he started out as an indifferent lofty immortal who practices abstinence to a cute little jealous concubine using his own tactics to fight for favor.

[collapse]

About the plot... *gives an empty laugh* politics and court struggle themes are not thaaaat understandable by my single surviving braincell *sighs* anyway it wasn't enough to bore me, other than that it was really smooth going with some interesting plot twists and without any major plot-holes.

Overall it's a best novel worth binge reading and rereading~ <<less

  • ML = cold, general, heartless, doting to MC, cute
  • ML family all be goner aft the war then oni his shetty crown prince who is his older bro be alive who is very evil and annoyin and tries to kill the ML many times he also looks down in MC which is again s*upidDD anyone with brains can tell MC is smart

I haven't finished reading, but it's already over 100 chapters, and the biggest plot hole I encountered is that they rebelled without knowing who would be succeeded to become the next emperor. And this rebellion was solely written by the author to insist on what the author called history, however, the time trajectory was different and between ML and MC, in my opinion, no one could become emperor.

say, ML as the god of war but he is too emotional and his temperament is too unsupportive to be emperor. A good... more>> general may not necessarily be a capable emperor. And even though MC is smart and calm he is too soft-hearted, faced with palace conflicts that require killing people who have worn out their lifespan, he will not bear it.

however as the old saying goes, a country cannot be left a day without a king. And before the rebellion, they didn't really know who would be the emperor which made me a bit hfjdndn

and another unfortunate thing is that ML is mentioned as the god of war but there is never really a description of war in the field or war strategies discussed. Although there is a struggle for territory, it is written only in passing. Even the uprising and the capture of the capital are discussed in only a few sentences.

and MC, I like his character he is smart and not naive even though hes soft hearted. Nor hes not obsessed with so-called history or plot.

but still a pretty good read. <<less

It's an ok read, if don't have anything else to read and is bored then this is perfect, the romance is ok but when they realize their feelings may be mutual they should've just talked about it, also why Pang Shao always 'deduces' that our protagonist is the culprit? Even when it just doesn't even make sense for him to guess that it was him, the guy always knows lol For the plot this has it definitely could've been cut in half, the author kinda dragged the plot too much... more>> just for the sake of completing more than a 100 chapters. But still, if you're bored and don't have anything else to read, then go for this. <<less

Ok so overall, I think this is quite a good read. Well, I think I would rate this 4.5 but that's being picky. I feel like they could've gone a little deeper into the reason/how of the transmigration, but honestly I haven't read many that actually do so its not a problem. I personally think the relationship between the two are pretty good, I just get a little frustrated with the miscommunication literally everywhere. And the MC is quite smart isn't he? Why can't he realize the ml's feelings sooner?... more>> I definitely like how its short enough to justify reading and the ending is fine.

My favorite part of this novel is the political aspect. Honestly, I think the romance and political intrigue are split pretty evenly 50/50, and it's interesting to ready what they do next. The plot holes are pretty minor and easy to read past so that's not a problem.

Overall, it's not that serious of a read and it's decently light and fluffy. It should be quite a fast read too, as it's not that long. Translations are good too 😀 <<less

8/10 nice storyline, MC and ML are really meant for each other during their up and down, they only had each other to fight the enemies infront of them. Most funny is those people around this CP always being forced to eat dog food XD especially their Doctor Li Chang Ning said to Wei Kai :

Li Chang Ning : "If a dog is emotionally unstable and always bite and howl for no reason, that is a sign of courtship"

Wei Kai : " What do you mean???? O.o "

Li Chang Ning... more>> : "Nothing :) Just telling that not only I know how to heal people, but also have a good understanding of animal disease"

LMAO XD <<less

It's good! The characters are good, intelligent and the politics r also interesting. I love that both the main leads r clever and strategical in their own areas. It's a slow burn that I especially like. Their chemistry is also good! Only, the antagonists getting their retribution is not properly shown. It's vague.
Spoiler

Also idk y some shounen ais r tagged as yaoi. This novel has nothing yaoi about it. And the fact that he is a transmigrator is known to his previous concubines but not the ML? Srsly.. He never shared it with him. I know there was no particular need to tell him but idk I just wish the ML knew. I also would have loved to see both his concubines getting the positions they previously wanted.

Overall, it's entertaining. 4.5/5

Zero Spoiler Review Hehe

It's been a while since I last enjoyed a transmigration novel this much. Usually they are too serious, too childish, too h**ny etc... I usually read them for a taster and quit when it becomes too boring but this novel is seriously riveting. The plot being driven is not ignored in favour for other things like romance but blends in without being overbearing. Instead of rushing to get some plot out like some authors in a few long winded chapters, it is being fed to us in... more>> just the right amounts. There is humour and romance and drama all in appropriate amounts and I got a good laugh once in a while without diverting the storyline.

As for the characters. None of them were too annoying, none of them seemed out of place. They were exceedingly appropriate allowing for a seamlessly immersive story. The comedic relief was also a breathe of fresh air, I have yet to come across a comedic relief that didn't induce annoyance in my heart but rather excitement. The story and characters feel incredibly well developed. Unlike most protags I felt that this one was silly but not to the point of obnoxiousness which really endeared me to him. HIGHLY recommend reading this, it warmed my heart and I'm actually looking forward to future chapters. <<less

At this point, I am more interested in knowing the history of the OG Jingwen and his two concubines, Xu and Gu.
Spoiler

OG Jingwen sounds like an interesting man. He was weak but at the same time, not quite. I am probably romanticizing him too much but I wonder what's his goal and aspirations. King Jingwen had power in the court, many ministers put their trust on him. He's charismatic as well as intelligent in putting his brain in scheming and pretending but at the same time, was he too blinded by humiliation that he dared anger the general? Of course, at that time, he had no idea that the general would have a come back but what made that guy hate him so much? Did he torment him or was it due to the general's belief that Jingwen was the one ordering his servants all around? (I mean yeah he just let them do what they want but did Jingwen expressedly implied it? Even his sexuality can be called into question, so what did he do?

I can't believe Pang Shao's more shrewd than all other ministers combined. There's too many of them and they're all in his pockets? Yeah Pang Shao's got the Emperor to back him up but really? No one went with the general's father to rebel?

I don't dare ship these people because one was blackmailed and the other was just clinging on a thread but like, bruh. The other was has a career goal, ya know? I'm a bit curious about how he will fare after the Jing Dynasty.

I love this story, overall the story is very neat and conflicts are resolved well. MC and ML didn't fall in love at first sight, and I love how their relationship developed. The villain characters are not very 2 dimensional, which makes me feel the villain is a bit real. I love Luo Wanjun's character the most. Very cool woman, she knows what she wants, she is very direct and charming. She is my favorite character in this novel!

Binge read in a day. It's actually fairly good and lives up to its premise. My only real complaint would be that it falls into the pitfall of a lot of transmigration novels, which is that MC doesn't seem to care that much about suddenly becoming a prince in ancient China?

Otherwise, it's a cute slow burn historical danmei novel about a weak-bodied prince who is surprisingly good at court politics for a modern history professor, and a recovering OP general who gets more smitten and jealous as the story goes... more>> on. Conflicts exist but aren't really bursting with tension or anything. It's also not filled to the brim with misunderstandings between the main couple (looking at you, HSAV)

(ALSO: In response to some other reviews, make sure you read all 13 extras! They actually do pretty well tying up loose ends as web novels go, and a lot of the "man I wish I saw those characters" I see in those reviews actually did make appearances in the extras. I'll put a little list of them below. SPOILER ALERT for that, btw)

Spoiler

In order of author's posting:

2 afterstories

8 modern era extras featuring MC and ML (and the historical consequences, I guess)

2 Lou Wanjun x Nie Cong (the het side pairing) extras

1 final short extra about MC's fake concubines, Xu Du and Gu Changyun

I'm looking forward to a proper translation! I love the idea of this one, I was super enthusiastic about it. Also not a hard read and mainly focused on the romance slowly blooming so don't be afraid of too much politics interfering!

I did translate it with my friend Google because I have no patience 😶 but I will definitely follow the English translation, since I want to be able to understand everything that happened 😅.

It's soooo cute.

Lol super hard to read with Google translate, but I can tell you the scenes between the MC and the ML are wonderful, they're slowly falling in love and dotting on each other. My heart honestly melted.

Got to 51 with the transition now and I even love to re-read it😭😂. I'm glad I can actually understand what's happening instead of mostly guessing lol.

Does anyone know similar stories? I really wanna read something with the same vibe. Coldxcold is so funny <<less

Hehe I love this. The MC is a level headed person, though the romance progressed a little bit slow, it's still satisfying. I love how they govern the court, MC as a good cop and the ML as a bad cop. Oh, and this story is easy to mtl.

Very good! The relationship takes a while to develop (predictably, given the situation), but it does so in a mutual way (rather than a hate-love sort of way where they love but also torment each other). There is unfortunately the trope of “the strong and powerful ML’s bedtime energy is so fierce that it’s like torture” : (Why can’t it be mutual enjoyment? : (: (But that’s the only problem I have.

The side characters aren’t as well-rounded as the MC, but they had some good stories of... more>> their own. <<less

If I could give this novel 10/5 stars I would; simply on the basis of ✨COMMUNICATION✨

If you want to read a novel with next to no s*upid misunderstandings and dumb arguments that start because they don’t know how to actually talk to each other; this one is for you! ML is a giant green flag✅✅✅that isn’t r*pey of overly possessive AT ALL!

The MC also never falls back into the dumb damsel in destress role as soon as the ML is back on his feet. They work together like two well... more>> oiled cogs to make up for what the other lacks and it makes the story that much more compelling.

If you read any BL read this one, it’s nothing but consent and badass husbands working together to make the world a better place! <<less
