According to popular legend, the war god of Da Liang Huo Wujiu was once captured by the enemy country. His meridians were severed and both his legs broken before he was thrown into prison. In order to humiliate him, that dissolute ruler even gifted him to his cutsleeve brother as a concubine.

General Huo suffered a great deal of humiliation and insult. He bided his time for three years before the cicada shed his skin and he escaped back to Da Jing. After treating his crippled legs, he led his army in three months to storm the enemy’s capital, slaughter its emperor, raze its capital, and finally beheaded that garbage cutsleeve, hanging his head on the city walls for three whole years.

Since then, the world has been united.

——

Jiang Suizhou, a history department graduate advisor at a certain university, received a dissertation which used these unofficial histories of Huo Wujiu as their basis, and criticized the student to no end.

When he opened his eyes again, he had transmigrated into that cutsleeve prince from the stories.

There were lanterns and colorful decorations everywhere. A servant came, sending word that the disabled general of the enemy state had already entered the prince’s manor in his wedding sedan.

Facing down General Huo, who had been tortured to the verge of death, dressed in red wedding clothes, glaring balefully, Jiang Suizhou only then knew – these wild stories could also come true.

And cause him to be beheaded for public display, his head hung on the city walls for three years.

Jiang Suizhou’s only option was to provide for General Huo well.

The overt and covert attacks of the imperial court, the witless ruler’s every possible humiliations — he grit his teeth and absorbed it all, all in the hopes that in three years time, he could but keep this head of his.

Of course, he didn’t dare to even dream of asking this 9 ci* tall “concubine” to actually serve him.

However, before the three years was up, General Huo’s legs actually healed on their own.

Not only did he slaughter the useless ruler and unified the country, but he also forcefully blocked him in the room and insisted on fulfilling his duty as “concubine.”

It's good to pass the time. A historian, transmigrate as a Canon fodder Charachter in the historical book. The storyline flows naturally. I like the romance thing between them. It's not instant. From the first impressions to the reality attraction. The MC is a rabbit in the fox clothing. And the ML is a wolf-dog wagging tail in front the MC.

Just the one chapter and I'm already hooked. Top-notch translation, so thank you for your hard-work.

This 'Jiang Suizhou' character seems to be a calm, rational person, not unlike the typical comedy-like transmigrator that gets absolutely shocked at their situation and overreact, as such, it's a change of pace and I love it.

I look forward to see how the story progresses. I await the next chapter!

Truly like it.

It was a fun classic light read novel with the right dose of romance and court plot.

I like MC. He was smart enough to make him believable. And because he was an historian, I really can imagine how well he found a way to adapt (and the way he geek about some book and people he's quite funny)

... more>> ML is the classic stoic, war god, s*x hungry beast we are used to with BL like this so... yeah he's good.

Their romance hit the right milestone at the right time and I like that this is a mutual pining and they both developped their feelings in parallel.

Still it's not perfect sadly.

I find the classic trope virg*n shou who doesn't have any stamina and on whom s*x happened (instead of choosen) a bit boring now. I wish we have more proactive couple but 🤷

Also some side character are truly under used and that's a shame. I would have love to have more on Xu Du and Gu *iforgothisname* because
Spoiler

the idea they were posing as concubine when they were his aid was nice. And I like they were able to see he was not the original character... but then they never really get used again except to show ML jealousy. And it ruins them a bit for me. Why have a secret military trainer if it's for never using him or his people ? (Worse, it's almost said they were quite bad and useless outside of gathering information). So at the end, it's always MC and ML alone, which is good to show their chemistry but disappointing at the same time.

But at the end, I spent a good moment. I could see myself Re-reading it in a few years. <<less

Pretty good! I liked the slow burn and the slow reveal.

It was really fun to see him unravel the mystery of his new body's past. I always like a smart and resourceful MC. His actions are only sliiightly too savvy (he got used to the ancient way of speaking a bit too quickly), but otherwise each step was pretty believable and logical. And it's not like he never makes mistakes either.

ML is a little too OP --

author made ML's power strong enough to basically secretly back up the MC whenever he had a plan that might have failed.

but it's forgivable.

The court politics were not overly handwavy and the author made a large attempt at world-building. I even ended up reading a bunch of historical stuff on Wikipedia for fun, so you know the story isn't bland or lacking in details.

Translation was okay, a bit of a slough to read on occasion and I had to skim as some of the court politics were overly detailed filler and weren't really that relevant to the plot. <<less

ML - Huo Wujiu x MC - Jiang Suizhou MC is a History Professor who transmigrates into the barely mentioned brother of the corrupt emperor after reading a student's AU thesis paper. The MC who knows the ‘real’ history of General Huo decides to protect himself by changing history. The relationship between the MC/ML gradually moves towards each other without being toxic, though their initial lack of communication can be frustrating. The scheming is not complex, just enough to move the story to its final conclusion

It's a pretty decent novel and I thought the ML's character development was great. I unfortunately lost interest towards the end as I could already predict the ending and didn't feel compelled to keep reading.

it’s a good book, pretty unique in some circumstances, but for the life of me I can’t finish it because of the miscommunications and lying in this book.

The one big issue I had (spoiler) :

Spoiler

Was with the ML not telling the MC that his legs started working, and keeping the fact that the doctor worked for him away. I understand why it happened, it’s very reasonable, but the one thing I can not stand in books is the withholding of information from the MC. It’s like a pet peeve of mine. The MC does find out about his legs working not too late into the book, barely all that many chapters later, but the anxiety I get from the fact that he didn’t tell the MC made me speed read the rest of the chapters and skip through until this misunderstanding got resolved. This made the whole reading experience sour for me tbh.

[collapse]

Therefore I quit the book before I could finish and just cut to the most current chapter to see where it got to. I read this book a long time ago and reread it because I enjoyed it, even with knowing I would quit because of my dislike for misunderstanding as well. Definitely worth reading to an extent, I’d say. <<less

The first half of the novel was very exhilarating; the court drama, back-yard drama was all very interesting. The build up of their relationship was so perfect.

The second half, though still slightly enjoyable, was a bit of a let-down. It felt like a different novel than the first half, somehow like very long extras with sweet nothings and impetuous storylines.

Spoiler

I'm not sure if it was at the establishment of their relationship (I was so turned off by their implicit s*xual acts) or at the fall of Nanjing (both happened at approximately the same time) that the novel lost its former lustre and became redundant

A good read overall. 3.5/5 <<less

I love this story so much I bought tbe physical copy. Waiting for it to arrive. :D

Spoiler

the miscommunication is unlike that in most other novels and doesn't cause me headache :)

[collapse]

Of course if there are a couple flaws that might bother someone else but I do expect these flaws when faced with a novel with only 123 chapters.

Spoiler

the side characters don't get developed much and the villain's motive is pretty cliche, though I did start feeling a little bit sad for the dumbass at the end.

I enjoyed this novel so much!! It was really entertaining and I loved the main couple. More of a slow burn, but the amount of sweetness/times it made me swoon was unmatched. Definitely recommend this if you like the premise!

Complete except for the extras. It's a great light read perse. Not really complicated lolol I actually overthink this a bit haha

Not a lot of clownery, lot of political/palace ordeal- which I really like. I love how they were able to overcome/fix everything.

Romance is slow-burn, which is acceptable given their situation.
Spoiler

At least they were able to accept their own feelings pretty quickly. Sadly ppp is redacted T_T sadt

[collapse]

I guess one thing I didn't like that much was the last arc-last villain. It was pretty stale storyline for me, I expected more.
Spoiler

However, that's where their relationship actually started so I forgive.

[collapse]

Spoiler

It's a bit funny bec there's this game God of War (Kratos) where the storyline goes circle of violence among father-son. Meanwhile, this story shows the circle of "violence" towards brothers. Just a nice lil side note lol
