Before her rebirth, Wei Luo was an innocent little girl.

After rebirth, she appeared lovable on the outside but was a different person on the inside.

Those who learned of her true nature yielded to her.

Only the prince regent regarded her as a treasure; no matter how much he pampered her, it was not enough for him.

Anything she wanted, he gave her, including the princess position that she didn’t want, which he stubbornly pushed onto her.

It's one of the novels I like the most, I read it many times. But there are several things I am unhappy with; mostly the treatment of female side characters... Too bad a retribution for very small schemes!

TBH I had a high expectation for this novel since there were so many recommendations for this novel. But I thought it was average. It's not so bad that you can't bare to read it. But it isn't so good that it's memorable either. I read this about a week ago and honestly the thing that I remember most about it is how weird the age gap made me feel. I guess technically it's acceptable bc of her rebirth and her mental age is older. But every time something in... more>> the plot mentioned their age (and it happened quite a lot) I would internally cringe and would have to remind myself that she was reborn. But, whatever it is, the ML was not even aware of her rebirth so his actions are super creepy. I guess just don't think about it. Bc delulu is the solulu... right? <<less

It's history is good, but it has its cons. I was a little uncomfortable, especially in the part where ML started to show that he liked MC, because of her age, but then I remembered that the plot took place in ancient China where it was normal for girls to commit so young, so I managed to get there until the end, apart from that, the story is very good.

I like the novel as it is not that heavy-scheming story. I like the ML and his way of pampering the MC. Though he was called tyrant and cold but he is not that yandere-ish type that unreasonable. Also, I like the part of MC's pregnancy where ML was reading everything about pregnant women, all the changes and difficulties during pregnancy and even mentioning right info about pregnancy. What I don't understand is why the author gave Li Song a happy ending. Li Song doesn't deserve a happy ending in... more>> past and current timeline.

In past timeline, he used five mineral powder on Chang Hong to end the engagement between his sister and Chang Hong. Chang Hong didn't do anything wrong to him or Li Xiang, he just unfortunately engage to his sister. And I think there is other ways to cancel their engagement esp. That Li Song is from a military family and making Chang Hong a drug addict is not the only way.

In the current timeline, he was the worst to gang r*pe Wei Zheng to his scoundrel friends and later to residence guards. I understand that he despised Wei Zheng but to gang r*pe her that's worst. He can just ignore Wei Zheng since he's also at fault by entering a girl's room without permission. That's why he doesn't deserve to had a happy ending.

There were other characters that should be reborn instead of him like Liang Yu Rong and Zhao Luili of past timeline. Like Ah Lou, they were victims of circumstances. Or Gao Dan Yang. Though I understand why the author let her suffered in Wu Rong country. As like what Ah Lou always said, you reap what you sow. She tried to kill Ah Lou, didn't give up of Zhao Jie after all the explanations and persuasion of all people around her and even planned to be second wife or concubine of Zhao Jie. And given the characteristics of the fourth prince of Wu Rong country, it is reasonable that he knew that it was Zhao Jie who was behind the ambush since he provoked Zhao Jie. BUT NOT LI SONG. HE DOESN'T DESERVE A HAPPY ENDING. <<less

I enjoyed this story so, so much!

It is definitely a very stereotypical revenge novel with OP protagonists, but since I've always loved cliches this is right up my alley. Besides, I knew what to expect when I started reading it and that is why the plot, the characters and the interactions didn't put me off.

I understand this is not for everyone, I understand that the ML is very much a tyrannical, possessive, obsessed, yandere ish, and a lot more adjectives that from a modern perspective are less than acceptable, protagonist... more>> but this is a historical fiction romance novel. The standards are what the author wants them to be and if that is what you like, good, if not, this is going to make you uncomfortable.

There are few cannon fodder who are pitiful, a few loose ends, so it's better if you keep a mindset of suspended reality so that you can enjoy this more light-heartedly.

Remember, the story is about the pampering of a traumatized, slightly psychotic, softcore yandere FML by a vicious, cruel and vindictive ML. There are heavy endings for a lot of cannon fodders who might or might not deserve it. Whether you can enjoy this story is entirely based on your moral standards and bottom line. <<less

If you can get through the first few chapters then it's an enjoyable read. I had dropped it a while ago after reading the first five chapters because it felt too childish but recently, I gave it another try fully prepared and it was entertaining enough,

Things to keep in mind:

  • These two leads are both ruthless.
If you are the kind that gets troubled when the punishment is cruel, then this isn't for you. There aren't as many instances of it as other novels, but it's there. I didn't have a... more>> problem, though. The author made it known early on that these characters were like that so I just focused on them being happy and it was all okay.

  • Possessive male lead, goes without saying.
  • Everything goes smoothly.
If you want angst or heartbreaking moments, this is not the novel for you right now. Even if you want suspense, I had none because I just knew everything would work out. It's that kind of novel and I liked that. It may have been a little boring towards the end, but it entertained me enough to keep reading. I'm currently reading another novel quite angsty and I needed one that could cool me down, this did the job.

  • There are some scenes with gore in it and some other things worth of placing a trigger warning (like r*pe). It doesn't involve the leads though, the antagonists are the ones that suffer and it isn't too descriptive or extensive but beware, the translator put a warning for some of those.
Final thoughts: just take it for what it is, a ruthless ML pampering the perfect and ruthless MC. If you go into the novel expecting to read just that, then you'll get that.

For what I needed which was a non angsty time without any frustration, I quite enjoyed it. Still, I couldn't rate it more than two starts because the plot really is too simple and if I had wanted something with more substance I would have dropped it. So timing is truly important even when choosing what to read. <<less

her brother.. Good f*cking jesus what an annoying piece of shit, literally couldn't make someone more annoying. Also regards to marrying people, if you don't agree why the f*ck don't you just say so?

MC and her bullsh*t revenge against 13 yr olds.. Literally made a girl marry into a family and her husband constantly tortures her / lets her get gang banged, another 20yr old girl basically got sold off to another country where she gets humiliated and beaten daily, ML being a literal pe*ophile.. Seriously wtf?

questionable plot. Questionable characters. Especially ML. Though the setting was in Ancient China, still since I have a conservative and prejudiced thinking I can't help but not want to continue reading.

While reading this, I can't help but think how pe*ophilic the ML is. FL has a vicious character, not likable for me. Though there are times where I can approve her actions especially towards the 'villanous characters'. Yet there are times when I think how ruthless and thoughtless her actions where. This book can really bring out my worst thoughts!

Don't be discouraged by all the negative reviews. This is a very good novel.

Spoiler

Yes there are some problems with the age, only because she is reborn as a very young girl and met the ML as a young boy 9 yrs older than her (She's 6, he's 15), but the overall plot is full of fluff and doting. Just forget their ages. Lol. He became romantically interested in her at 13, waited to marry her at 15 (that's the age girls get married in that novel).

I wouldn't compare this to Mei Gongqing or other revenge reincarnation stories. First of all, except for Li Song, the MC did not actively take revenge or hurt people who have wronged her in the past life, but she was unsympathetic and aloof to them. Same as "The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage", sometimes the antagonist caused their own demise, but unlike Shen Miao, Wei Lou does not scheme but rather it was Zhao Jie who tried to protect her as much as he can manage. I think the most scheming she's done here is to act cute with her father, brother, her ex-fiancee and Zhao Jie, the ML and she is nice to some people. It's not really a scheme.

[collapse]

As for the angsty Li Song

Spoiler

It is a love-hate relationship for him. He's totally obsessed with the MC which could have made for a wonderful second lead, only what he did to his wife is so disgusting, it's irredeemable. At first, I like his character as the angsty, one-sided love but he deserves a lot of bad things that happened to him. The MC is really protective of his younger (twin) brother. In the previous life, he and his sister ruined her brother's life, and almost killed her brother twice in the present life so she really hates this guy and maimed him a couple of times.

There is a side story about him being reborn again to the original timeline of Wei Lou before she died in her stepmom and stepsister's hands. But think of it as a separate short story, not connected to the main, coz that main LS is irredeemable. He is still obsessed with the MC, but her personality is different and he gave her a choice and did not push her and protected her in that lifetime, he eventually got his happy ending there, married to the MC.

[collapse]

For those saying the MC is dumb, she's not. She lived her second life like a regular person of that time. She is originally from a good family, she is good to those people who are good to her and ignored those who are not nice to her. Don't expect a person who was uneducated and poor in her past life and was reborn back to her 6 years old self to be a genius like some of the rebirth stories. She's a regular girl. She educated herself (books and deportment), she learned how to make herself prettier (creams and oils), and she made use of what she has to improve her life and did not scheme against other people to hurt them.

About the author

Spoiler

Although this is a really good story, I have a problem with how bias this author is. First, the author punished the evil men here with easy death or trauma, but the women have it harshly.

That lady who was married off to the foreign country's a-hole prince just so she won't cause future trouble to the Main Characters did not deserve a hard life. She's not evil and she spent her youth waiting for the ML to marry her (Although he expressed many times that he's not interested in her, their parents gave her hope). Meanwhile that prince only got ambushed and hurt a little.

MC's cousin from the mistress. Yes she tried to seduce and spoke some bad things and tried to marry above her station. The author made her a concubine to another a-hole which would have been enough suffering, I think, but the author had to take it an extra step by selling her to the red district. Meanwhile the a-hole husband got traumatized by going into the torture chamber to watch people getting tortured.

And finally, the evil stepsister from the past life WZ, she is bad but unlike Shen Miao's sisters who are truly evil and tried to evilly scheme her everytime, this stepsister in this rebirth is just jealous but never made any move against her since the MC got everyone's doting. The most that she did is try to trap the MC's former fiancee into marriage but got LS by mistake. Death is too easy according to the author, so she had to be r*ped many times. Translator and some comments disqus if she could have turned into a nicer person since she was just 5 and it's a prime age to form personalities, but sadly, unlike the MC who got doted on by their Dad and twin brother, plus fourth Aunt, the ML, not to mention, the Queen and Princess Liuli, WZ only got her mother and second Aunt who are not good people, and their Dad always takes MC's side (she likes acting cute. Imagine some villains acts cute while the MC usually are stoic/tsundere, it's the opposite here. But quite like Shen Miao who acts cute with her family.

And lastly, that singer who witnessed LS biting WC's neck got her tongue cut off just because she saw this happened to the then Princess consort MC.

I think this author is anti-women when it comes to punishing the villains.

[collapse]

End of rant against the author. He's bias against Li Song, btw. Even gave him a wonderful second chance story.

But aside from those, this is a very good read. The story is good. The translation is excellent. I would like to thank fuyuneko for the wonderful job she's done. The translation included pics and explanations to make the reader visualize some things like the clothes, the hairstyles, the antiques, etc. It's really awesome. I also like the ending. It was not rushed. Happy ending. There are also some wonderful side character love stories that have closures. Also, some snu snu and a lot of fluff. <<less

I'm giving 3.5 for this novel.

Overall, form my opinion it's nice but I won't say that it's very good. I like it because it is not too short or too long.

But the plotting is not that interesting and you can expect it. It is sweet but the sweetness are too repeating I guess. And I just don't like it when the men are just too pushy. Well, this is only my opinion.

What made me really happy while reading this novel is the Rebirth of Li Song (even though it was just a dream). He was given a chance to be upright and to be happy. I'm soo proud of him.

I wanna point out some things tho:

1. It made me think twice on the word "pampering". Well, for me, it does not translate to s*xual ab*se to a child/teen.

2. Wei Chang Hong as the twin brother was merely/minutely became a side character which I vaguely understand and was not given a clear... more>> ending.

3. The story was like a straight flowing river without rocks. Although it was fine but it really made the story a bore.

Overall, it was a good read. <<less

I gave this 3 stars not for the story but for the translator coz if not for how good the translator is, I would've just rated this 1/5.

My initial thought while reading this was wait a minute, this kinda seems familiar.

Lol coz it is. I don't know if it's just me but it definitely reminded me of The rebirth of the malicious empress except in a bad way. Kinda like TRME gone wrong.

There's just too many plotholes in the story like with regards to seeing her half brother in the... more>> past. Someone commented about this plot hole so I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed this.

Also, the MC character isn't even endearing anymore. She honestly looks like a spoiled, entitled brat who thinks she's above everyone else. I'm also pissed on how she tried to find a way so that her friend and her cousin? Won't be together. Like I get it, things didn't go well for the both of them in the past life but she honestly comes of as manipulative coz she's deliberately stopping them.

The twin bro is also creepy. It's one thing to be overprotective of your sibling but his actions looks like "in*esty" LOL

Still at awe how this got a high rating though. Oh well <<less

A more unique premise than a lot of other stories in the transmigration genre because she transmigrates young, but not executed well.

What was an interesting and engaging girl at the beginning and an exciting encounter with the male lead, with a promising different and playful tone to their interactions, becomes stale as they get older. I'm not in favor of super controlling or pampering male leads. It's fun to read sometimes, but becomes old fast when the male lead just throws his weight around to get what he wants and... more>> the female protagonist just gets her problems solved for her.

Worth a read anyways because I did enjoy myself, just not the best. <<less

The pace is slow and un-stressful. MC’s friend just sold her out just because she wants to help her brother. It’s true what they said about royal family; so scheming even when they’re so young!

The FL was reborn back to when she was 6 years old after evading a series of unfortunate events that led to her losing her life at the young age of 16.

My feeling towards the novel is just ok. There are parts I enjoyed reading and parts where I just straight up want to flip tables because of the odd or lack of reasoning behind some actions.

I mean, ok some characters are very calculating, malicious, and use scrupulous means but sometimes the extent they get punished for it is a... more>> little overkill. Tho it's usually not by FL's own hand but the author's.

I can somehow understand her twin brother's overprotectiveness. ML is a bit of a scoundrel (In both good and bad ways, make of that what you will.) I wouldn't trust my own sister with a guy like that off the bat.

I don't really care too much about the age difference but she's 14 when his interactions with her become less innocent, lol. But again, Chinese ancient story settings. Girls get married off at 15. And 20 is considered old. But yes, fictional setting =/= reality so I just go with it.

Spoiler

Pity that. There are some characters I felt are rather tragic.

Songhui. For one. I felt bad because he really didn't do anything wrong other than not being the FL's type and holding it against him that he married her sister in his first life. What to do? He was made to believe she was dead and her sister is nothing short of schemes to try to get what she wants. Took her too long to clear it up with him, honestly. Got strung along for years. Maybe he should end up with Gao Dan Yang.

Speaking of that cousin of the ML, she been made to believe she'd be his bride in the future. The whole childhood sweethearts was brainwashed into her by the Empress and she even made up the whole jewelries from her son to her when it wasn't. Only for her to just shrug it off like it was nothing, 'oh it's no big deal, I promise to find you a better match'. Like that solves years of pining and having your hopes up. So yes.. While not all stories are perfect and if we're going to be close to realistic about it, some fates that didn't mean to suffer actually still got hit in the line of fire. It is unintentional and inevitable.

Her twin brother. I interpreted Changhong's actions as more of him not wanting anyone to bully her in the future or see her taken advantaged of, seeing as she was almost sold off when she was young so it's almost like a psychological shadow, perhaps?

Add to that he's introverted and unlike WL, doesn't seem to have friends or close relations with anyone else. I was hoping there'd be more??? Maybe him gaining his own independence and backbone. Have his own identity outside of being just her brother? But I haven't seen anything to that extent that I'm starting to believe that the author just made him this two dimensional supporting character that didn't seem to have any growth and just acts like an extra shield/obstacle for the ML to overcome. Like another one of the many characters revolving around FL without a life to live outside of the sun that is her, and all that.

[collapse]

That being said, I'm still on the fence whether to continue or not. The beginning was fun to read but after that my interest to continue keeps declining. <<less

Chongfei Manual is honestly the okayest novel I've read so far. Out of all the novels with a female protagonist, she is my favorite. Well one of my favorite.

Like most characters that have been reincarnated in Chinese novels, she is disillusioned with her life. She isn't bitter per say, but she is very much aware of her situation and other's around her. She understand the cause and effect of her actions and also knows that changing the path of a timeline results in a different future.

And she does exhibit moments... more>> where the memories of her past life really weighs her down.

Now the thing I don't like about her is how oddly immature she is and also the weird attraction the male protagonist has towards her despite that. I feel a little gross how much he likes her despite the difference in age at their age group.

I feel like there should've been some kind of trials she should go through during her second life. The only thing that happened was her brother getting shot. All I'm saying is that it doesn't make sense that her life is so smooth after a second run through. <<less

The story is very mature and describes the troubles of a little girl growing up to reach adulthood in ancient china. The ancient foods, customs and clothes are described well, and the TL even supplies pictures of said item to satisfy curiosity. But the novel is lacking on the execution path, it lacks strength and severity. The MC doesnt face any troubles, in the beginning there are some harsh developments, showcasing her cruel side, but after the first hurdle she only acts spoiled and doesn't do anything of any importance.... more>> It really lures one to sleep, its a dull drag describing minor annoyances. I want action, I want drama, I want heinous plots and betrayals! <<less

Chongfei Manual is a fun light-read novel. I think this is the first time I read a novel where the FL have multiple female friends, bestfriend I say. Which adds more fun in it. I appreciate the author for not diregard female nature on this. Each character is different from other characters. Sadly, some interesting side characters don't have their limelight in this book. Well, that makes sense actually cause they're side character which happened have this "interesting" side on them. A pity imo.

Re-edit after reread

Spoiler

I was commented my disagreement with MC's personality. But now I realize, this book is interesting as it is. No matter how the MC is.

And I was compare this book with "Rebirth of the Tyrant's Pet". Nevertheless these two books have similar plot but different scheme. These two books are interesting to compare actually, cause the way the MC handling their future is vastly different

[collapse]

On other side, the ML is err.. Quite forceful I guess. The same formula. That's all. This book is quite smutty, I don't know why there isn't smut tag in this. Does what I think is smut is different with the definition of smut in this website?? I just think that smut is on milder side than mature which is more blatant, glaring, gore (for fighting scene) etc.
