Before her rebirth, Wei Luo was an innocent little girl.

After rebirth, she appeared lovable on the outside but was a different person on the inside.

Those who learned of her true nature yielded to her.

Only the prince regent regarded her as a treasure; no matter how much he pampered her, it was not enough for him.

Anything she wanted, he gave her, including the princess position that she didn’t want, which he stubbornly pushed onto her.

I stumbled upon a comment on another story, comparing CM to the story.

The commenter condemning her/himself that she/he was once too young to love/like phdflc plotline of CM.

I roFL myself thinking that she/he must be a teenager who suddenly transmigrated into an adult, considering CM was completed recently.

This book is good if you're looking to kill a huge amount of time. Huge. I know people say it's short at 171 chapters, but each chapter is really long and by each chapter, I'm including the.1 and.2's. So it takes many many many hours to read, and honestly, it's not very good.

I do not mind this book. It is not particularly good, but it's not horrible. A lot of people are complaining about the descriptions of how pretty the MC is, well there's only like a paragraph every few... more>> chapters, I don't think it's too excessive. And then there's the whole age gap thing. Ok, 9 years is quite a bit I'll admit, but they don't portray it too creepily and they do address it, except there is this one horrible horrible pointless disgusting scene where

Spoiler

the ML touches himself (if you catch my drift) to the thought of her and he's 22 and she's 13 and it's horrible horrible horrible, and it doesn't add to the story at all and also makes me concerned for his sanity because in the dream, one side there is blood and gore and the other he's f****** a 13 year old...

[collapse]

but other than that it's really not that bad. Also, people talk about how the MC doesn't give people a chance for redemption, but she does, at least where I'm at, for one character

Spoiler

her younger stepbrother, though more on him underneath because the author really messed him up

[collapse]

Though it is true that she was unnecessarily cruel to several characters, and she could have tried to change her 5 year old sister rather than letting her get worse and worse, and several other characters that had nothing to do with her yet somehow got caught in the mix.

Now to the things that genuinely piss me off. First of all, there's the messed up timeline, where she's talking about what a 'despot' her younger stepbrother is, but the author forgets that when the MC died, he was only 8 years old. 8! Yes, he beat someone to death on the street, by himself, with his own fists, when he was 8 -_-. Hmmmm... let's think about that. Herculean strength? Then she constantly refers to him as an adult, and what a horrible person he was, to justify her hatred for him, and let me repeat that she was never an adult, let alone him. Maybe that's the problem with using characters that are too young, in all honesty, you forget about the age thing and pretend they're all adults.

Then the way the author says things and then immediately contradicts herself. It happens multiple times, sometimes within the same freaking chapter.

Spoiler

In one chapter, she claims that she knows this guy likes her because the look in his eyes is the same as those in the village from her previous timeline that liked her. He's this guy that she has humiliated multiple times and hates her guts. Literally the last person ON THE WHOLE PLANET who would ever like her, and she knows that he likes her from the look in his eyes. Ok, fine, I can accept it, but the next chapter, the ML, who has always treated her unnecessarily kind, is described as looking at her with love and lust and wanting her and all that stuff and she's literally like, "Why is he helping me? WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?" Mkay, so she can recognise love in anyone's eyes EXCEPT when it affects the plot, and is the ML. Ok. Alright.

[collapse]

Not to mention, and I cannot emphasise this enough, the author DOES NOT consider the ages of her characters when she writes her story. Some of the things that she writes about are horrible, and aren't ok but do happen in many other books, but because her characters are so young, they are not alright anymore. She forgets this age issue and goes on to include them anyways, like when

Spoiler

her 'evil' sister is r*ped by a bunch of men, and SHE'S ONLY 13!!! (or even younger actually, can't quite remember). And honestly, she didn't even do anything excessively horrible to the MC, just wanted to save her mum and be loved by her dad, which later developed into hatred of the MC, but she cannot be blamed for it because she was 5 years old when it happened, and she didn't even know about the plot and is described as being innocent. Then the author had to add in how spoiled and 'evil' she was because otherwise, we readers would realise she was just a kid being petty and who loved her mum, who was practically tortured. Oh god, the stepmother did horrible things, but reading about what happened to her killed me.

[collapse]

I honestly can't remember anything from before the age of 10 or so, yet these little kids, at age 5 and 6, are doing all these things like holding grudges, plotting revenge plans, FALLING IN LOVE? Ok, you are WAAAAAAAY too young for any of this.

But all in all, not the worse thing I've read so... read at your own risk. I can see the appeal, but I can't feel it. I know I bagged out the author, but I get that it's hard to write a book, so I do want to thank the amazing translators (honestly the translation is great) and the author and editor/s. I was entertained for a while I guess. <<less

This is my first time writing a review that's why I'm a bit generous today. I'm giving 4 stars for this novel. (Else, I would've given a 3.5 stars for this one.)

  1. Author - the author is great. The idea is fresh for a usual revenge/reincarnation type of novel. Basing on the chapters i've read, the author forgot some instances, and wasn't very consistent. These are just minkr things, so it could be ignored.
  2. Translator - quite good. Few incorrect grammars and spellings, but tolerable. It's just that I some points wherein modern terms where used for an ancient novel. Specifically, lipstick was used instead of rouge or something similar. It's fine, but it just feels a bit weird. Tho I'm not sure if that's what's exactly written in the original text, then my comment about this is invalid. Anyway, I still would like to thank our dear translator (s) for your effort in translating this novel. Without them, I wouldn't be even writing a review about this novel right now.
  3. Novel - it's all about a pampered MC who always spaces out, a cradlesnatcher male lead, a bit confusing revenge plots (i feel it's a bit lacking in impact compared to a usual revenge novels and a bit forced if I must say)
Basically, it's a novel you can read when... more>> you don't have anything else to read. I can finish it, coz of the fresh ideas... But I don't think it's a novel I can read again after finishing.

Well let's give it a benefit of the doubt. I'm more or less just in the middle part of the story. I hope my impression for this novel changes... To be more positive. <<less

It's exciting during the early chapters..

How's she reborn and given the chance to avoid misfortunes and planned to save people that she care..

But, that was just only in the early chapters..

Later on, the thrill sources were like, slowly gone..... and the story became boring..

I felt regret on how the story developed..

Well, I'm done.

Thanks for the translation anyway..

Lovely story and very enjoyable plot. I especially like the author's writing skill which is very good at describing human natures and characters vividly, like in good works of literature. The story flow and the descriptions of the emotions and logics of characters are not one-sided only to main characters, unlike in many other web novels. And, also this novel has much less cruelty than many rebirth novel.

At first, I'm doubting and delaying reading this because of some negative reviews... but dang, after reading this, I truly love this start from finish.

The translation is really good.

MC might be unforgiving and selfish to antagonists and to the people that made wrong to her... but she's really lovable to the people who are kind to her. However, ML is truly evil and only good to MC. He's extremely possessive and jealous that it borderline yandere... LMAO

The lead's sweetness is out of the world.

I also love that:

Spoiler

Li Song got chance to redeem his self in the other parallel world and got a happy ending even tho I slightly feel that he didn't deserve it because of his previous evil deeds.

The ending for the leads gave me a satisfied feeling.

However, only sad that Wei Chang Ho's ending was not mentioned whether he got married happily or not. Or still having his sister complex... LMAO

And I also love to know the Emperor and Empress ending story. <<less

I have mixed feelings about this one. The story itself is brilliant but there were times when I felt like our main character was a bit brash and harsh. Yes, she did reverse the bad development for the people around her but then it influenced the other people, some innocent, to have lesser fates that they deserve.

Romance wise, this story is full of it. My heart keeps thumping to be honest and it was quite challenging at some parts because it makes one think 'Ah if only that happens in... more>> real life...' The pacing was a bit slow for me but the development of the story, although predictable, was still quite exciting.

To be honest I love the side story. I felt that character was really wronged on the original plot so it's really nice to see him achieve a happy ending.",) <<less

I really enjoyed the story, it's cute, quiet. Do not expect big twists, or moments "Seriously ?????" But it's nice to read. Not all the other women in the novel are villains. The protagonist has friends, which is very realistic and well built.

Treatment of the antagonists is somewhat exaggerated. It is something like someone employ a kamehama in response to a pinch.

As a minor character of the Empress, I really agree with her.

The translation is excellent, and the explanation pictures are well selected. It is interesting to see the sweets... more>> and the hairstyles. Thank you to the translator for the excellent work !!!

The plot is sort of interesting. There is political drama and all. But one thing that disturbs me is that the way the villains are being treated. I know they deserve their punishment, but just kind of wish they really learnt their lesson in a way.

I don't really like the MC and ML. They are not bad people but they are not good either? MC can be very serious about revenge and ML is cunning. I actually felt more interested in the side characters like MC's good friend. They have... more>> a more interesting background to me.

overall, its ok... just not really my cup of tea. <<less

While reading thru some of the comments per chapter, I find that a lot of people hates Li Song, but I can't find it in me to hate him. TBH I get the impression of a tsundere that expresses himself poorly and makes bad decisions in the heat of the moment.

People also hate him for what he did to Wei Zheng, but people only look at this from one point of view, if you see it from his, if you under the influence of a drug which increases desire and loosens inhibitions and also thought the girl you loved was clinging to you, could you really hold yourself back?

Well most of the readers are girls so maybe they think most men should be gentlemanly and can restrain themselves but that's logically difficult to do especially for someone who is rather impulsive and hotheaded like Li Song.

Anyway... he took revenge on Wei Zheng by putting her through a woman's worse nightmare... and tbh I did think it was a bit cruel but if you were supposedly happy to be one with the one you love then find out you were trapped by someone you didn't like and was even caught by the one you did love... isn't that like being dropped into the deepest and horrible hell hole?

Even from my point of view, I would probably torment that person in the worse possible way... ofc I'm vindictive by nature so this is just my thoughts.

5 stars for translation... Excellent indeed.

1 stars for plot-line -- so many possiblilities abandoned; loopholes

1 star for characters development (writers focus way too much abt main couple, practically everyone else was accessories, many of them just "disappeared". Li Song, Song Hui, Chang Hong, etc-- they were all very interesting character that would make this story a lot better is they were developed more, both as individual and their respective interactions with our MC

... more>> 5 stars for my support for the writer, very promising! hope s/he will write better novels soon

Anyway, this is shoujo, and the romance was truly entertaining for the fans. So if you are fans of shoujo, this one is for you <<less

To start with, the translation quality of this novel is excellent! The translator made almost no grammar errors and provides a lot of helpful images to put things into cultural contexts, which I loved! I feel this is worth a read just on the basis of the excellent translation.

As for the story, it’s a relatively lighthearted read about a very pragmatic reincarnated heroine and a male lead who falls for her hard (softcore yandere levels of love, lol). I really enjoyed the main couple’s interactions, and some of the political... more>> intrigue that’s woven throughout the story.

However, the reason why this is 4 stars for me and not 5 is the author’s weird habit of being horribly cruel to a lot of female rivals/villains, even if they aren’t super bad or are just products of unfortunate circumstances. I won’t elaborate, some other reviews have, but I just felt really uncomfortable at those parts, which seemed like an abrupt amount of cruelty in a novel that mostly didn’t take itself too seriously and was just a story about a sly miss and the prince smitten with her :/ <<less

I found this novel rather light and enjoyable. Though there are some parts that I agree with the other reviewers but overall I think it is worth the read.

Firstly, the translation is really good! There is detailed explanation on the items, food and clothes. The explanation mostly come in the form of pictures. The pictures allow me to understand better. I think it is really conscientious of the translator so thank you translators for that!!

Secondly, about the plot, the plot is light in my opinion since it is not heavily... more>> on revenge compared to the novel, Princess Weiyang. Like what the other reviewers have said, she has pretty much finish taking revenge before she turn in a teen. After she became a teen, I feel like it is more focus on her daily life. She is very narcissistic indeed but the details on how the author describes her beauty routine is quite interesting to me. I just found it amusing reading it since in other novels these details are usually skipped. But then again, it is my opinion. She usually plots revenge in her defence to protect her love ones and herself. The revenge is mainly based on when she is much younger. When she is older, the story is pretty much based on the development of love and the love between the male lead and female lead. The male lead does pamper her a lot that she does not really have to worry about much after being together with him. The love within the male and female lead are VERY touchy.

The antagonists. I pity some of them but then again, they deserve what they received. I particularly remember these two.

Wei Zheng:

Spoiler

She is immature that is for sure and very stubborn. She does not think ahead. This is for example when she wants to drug Song Hui but in the end it was Li Song who got drugged. I feel that she did not plan much ahead on the “what if”. She deserved the ending she received. Though it is very cruel of Li Song to do that to her.

[collapse]

Li Song:

Spoiler

He was straight up annoying when he was younger. As he gets older, I kind of pity him since he starts to regret as well. Though I pity him, I don’t think he is a good person at all. I find that he is very obsessive towards the female lead instead of loving the female lead.

Though they ended up together in the extras, through the female lead’s past life. I honestly don’t think they will have a happy ending if both of them are together since it is a matter of fact that his family goes against the male lead and with the female lead’s past life she is not as confident and witty as compared to her rebirth.

[collapse]

In conclusion, I would recommend people to read this if you are looking into reading much more of a fluffy novel rather than a crafty and meticulous novel since this story does not based much on her revenge and if you prefer a light novel that does not focus much on the gaining of power. <<less

This is my first review so I'll try to keep it as objective as possible (probably not by the end of it).

I wouldn't call Chongfei Manual as one of those books that you can't put down, but there are parts of the novel that are interesting.

Why I like this:

    1. Short-chapter arcs. It doesn't take 20+, even 50+, chapters for an arc to complete (I'm looking at you GD:BBM). Each arc takes about 3 chapters at least and 5 chapters at most. So, it doesn't leave the reader bored reading through multiple chapters to finish an arc (still looking at you GD:BBM) to the point of just skipping through chapters just to get to the conclusion.
    2. The romance. You get a heaping dose of teeth-rotting sweetness between the male lead and female lead and how doting the male lead is towards the female lead. Whatever misunderstanding or quarrel happens, the two main characters talk it out and sort out their problems (and this only takes about 1 or 2 chapters, thank the book gods for that!).
    3. It is a happily-ever-after story.
      Spoiler

We even get a glimpse of their lives with children

      [collapse]
Why I don't like this:

    1. It is Chu Wang Fei-level vindictiveness in terms of revenge and is downright misogynistic. Do I think that the revenge handed out are justifiable?
      Spoiler

Some deserve it, but a lot of times, especially towards the female villains, the punishments didn't match with the crime. I know for the most part those punishment were cruel and completely unnecessary.

      [collapse]
    2. Some of the villains and their motives did not make any sense. If it was merely to move the story forward, there were other characters who would make believable villains and had more motives to take out the main leads. Honestly.
    3. The author didn't deign to develop the main leads' characters more, and even some of the characters that you will like/love/loathe. (You'll get it once you read the entire novel.)
    4. Closure is abrupt or incomplete for some of the characters that you like/love/loathe. Introduce a character, especially ones with some connection to the main characters, and leave their endings hanging? No. Can't accept that.
    5. Lastly, the intimacy.
      Spoiler

The author does not know how to f*cking convey a romantic physical intimacy. OH MY GOD! Every time the author writes an intimate scene, the first few instances/chapters always seemed forced to the point of it making it sound like r*pe. If the author was trying to go for "hard-to-get" female lead, he/she (author) is horribly failing at it (or maybe it's just lost in translation, who knows), but yeah. You will hate the male lead at times for pushing through a physical contact that the female lead is uncomfortable with and you will get uncomfortable with it as well. Does it redeem itself afterward? For some bizarre reason, it does. The latter intimate scenes suddenly turn scintillating, which is completely confusing to readers. That's why I'm thinking that maybe it's just lost in translation.

      [collapse]
Would I recommend this book?

If you want a novel that doesn't take 1K+ chapters to read and is completed, I'd say go for it, but I would ask you to keep an open mind. If you can't do that, don't. If you want to read a book that has second chances, romance and revenge, then I say give this a try.

Those are some of the reasons why I read this book in the first place. Another one was because Fuyuneko, the translator who took over after Girly Novel stopped translating, uploaded chapters on a daily basis, which I certainly appreciate as I hate cliffhangers (who does?). And lastly, there's always a lively conversation among the readers and even the translator in the comments section and I love reading the interaction of everyone's differing opinions.

Why did I gave it 4 stars?

Because I appreciate Girly Novel and Fuyuneko's efforts a lot for translating this novel. Both translators explain idioms and terminologies well that doesn't make sense in English and they even post pictures to make it easier for readers to imagine what an item is about.

P.S. Thank you Girly Novel and Fuyuneko for sharing this novel!

In my opinion, this story is very amazing and very heart warming, at the near end. The story is one of my favourites, because it is a reincarnation story and romance. It has quite a lot of cute and mushy parts, which most of it I like quite a lot. However, the author is quite ignorant of a person's consent.

The story progressed pretty well from the very start 'til the very end.

Wei Lou (MC/FL) is very cute, magnanimous and lovely. She loves taking care of her physical appearance. She... more>> is very protective of her loved ones. She has a lot of amazing and great qualities as a person.

Zhao Jie (ML) is quite domineering. He is a bit manipulative. However, he is also very pampering towards Wei Lou. He loves Wei Lou to bits! He gets jealous quite easily.

Spoiler

When Zhao Jie's and Wei Lou's son (Zhao Xi) was born, Wei Lou spent most of her attention to Zhao Xi, so Zhao Jie ate a lot of vinegar.

I have read this to chapter 96 so far. I am one of the few that actually enjoys a slow paced story from time to time. This story is very interesting and fun to read. I like the MC in this story. I am at chapter 96 and the author seems to really be milking their pre marriage relationship a bit too much. They keep talking about marriage and yet they keep pushing it further away. It's a constant tease. Just because the marriage happens in a story like this, it should not affect it too much. The romance isn't what makes this story so good imo. I usually like a little romance, but its more interesting to see the MC outsmart her foes.

I quite liked this novel in the early chapters but as I read on, I did not see any character development with the MC, she's very childish still and you would think because she's already lived once she would be better, at least a little bit better but she's not and tbh her brother: Wei chang hong is weird. I understand brothers especially twin brothers can be protective but it just feels like he is obsessed with her in a wrong way.

This novel is about unrequited love. You make a mistake when you're young and the consequences are brutal. Wei Lou's dad encouraged a woman to come between him and his wife. The wife left him. He married the other woman but he was never happy. He realized there is such a thing as marrying someone your heart desires compared with marrying someone for convenience's sake and it ruined his life. It also ruined the life of his youngest daughter.

The emperor went his merry way to imp**gnate every tree that moves and in the process lost his loyal and valiant wife. She ruthlessly cut off all emotional ties with him without nary a regret and in the end he could show nothing for all his so-called omnipotence except the almost fatal effect of his adultery on his only daughter. He lost his daughter, his wife, he certainly lost authority on his only heir.

Li Song, my favorite character of all the characters in this novel, is the most tragic. He made one wrong decision in his childhood and he was marked for life by the woman he heartbreakingly loves. He suffered all sorts of physical, emotional and mental ab*se because of her but the thing is he only wanted to make her his, be good and kind to her as her chosen husband. The tragedy is he knows whatever he does would be of no good because she hates him and continue to hate him until he dies.

No wonder the author gave him a second chance in a dream?

Besides these interesting characters, the novel is basically a lo*icon. A 22 year old man sexually desiring a 13 year old girl. Well, it could pass for love, maybe, because of the ancient setting. People do get married in those era while they're practically skipping rope as a child so to each his own, right?

But is this a good novel? Yes, because of those other characters. The bitterness and sadness in the novel is quite palpable. I feel sorry for the half-sister who's made into a prostitute at 13 by her uncaring husband. But can you blame him since he himself is suffering the bitter pangs of unrequited love?
