If you love To Be A Virtuous Wife, then you would love this.

The atmosphere is quite similar.. Like you'll notice some similarities of the plot especially the reincarnation part. Some of the MCs personalities are also familiar but the starting plot and the settings are different. I don't dislike it though. Cos I love TBVW so I'm sure I'll fall for this too.

Basically, it's cliché but the good kind.. And the similarities, you can't blame the author, he/she made both of the books after all and they are well received... more>> :)

This is really cool and fresh! Same author as "to be a virtuous wife" and According to the translator, this is like "to be a virtuous wife" 2.0! So I'm really hopeful for this novel. So far, the characters are really awesome and different from the norm. 8/10 very chill read overall, FL is a stunning beauty with brain but unlike other story where FL has to scheme this FL is just minding her own business and is lazy LOL relatable. ML is surprisingly a green flag since the start which is rare cause normally they will go from red to green. I would love more epiloge/extra I want to see their interaction when FL is pregnant and their interaction with their kids. But would I say that it quite monotone and not much drama

babe, you have to read this. It is cute, is intense, some drama but not that much. There is a development on the relationship and is in my opinion very well executed. Loving family, there is no trauma driven main characters (not that much) and the FL is very realistic in her wishes, ambitions and everything in general.

Currently on ch. 72, for those reviews I had read that it's like a "To be a Virtuous Wife", it doesn't feel the same for me as I have read this novel. And I have read the TBAVW before reading this because so many of the reviews are saying it's a copy or it's similar.

I can say there are similarities but there are differences as well. In the TBAVW, the overall feels of the novel for me is quite mild as I should say.

While this one, as the MC is... more>> quite lazy and the ML is pretending, it's really like a chill read. Until the exciting part where deaths, assassins, and schemes are starting to show one after another in no time.

I love the MC and ml's understanding of each other, and the communication? I love it. And I love how they develop their relationship and how the author beautifully narrates both perspective.

I think this novel would be bloody tho, and I hope so. I wish for more exciting bloody royalty drama behind the scene while the MC and ML are trying their best in acting innocent and spreading love all over.

When I say bloody, the ML has secret jail and torture room and he sometimes go to torture others? And MC is such a badass to hurt herself and even cutting herself to make her act more true. (This happened when a spy from the secret jail escaped and took hostage of a servant but the servant is a spy as well.)

About my fourth time reading this. One of my all time favourites.

Plot and story wise, I do feel it could maybe have been better, but what truly makes this a standout for me is the writing. Even compared to TBVW or other works by the author, it is by far the best in terms of saying just enough to make you as a reader think a bit more and understand without feeding it. It took me this long to pick this when I have this novel in my list since 2021 I really want to slap my face for being foolish.

this was really really good read. Especially if you’re a sucker for beautiful female lead that were described to be a “calamity beauty” like me but at the same time the author doesn’t mentioned it at very page so it doesn’t make one irritated.

The story is well balanced between schemes to fight for the throne and the daily life between the couple. I personally really love our female lead, Hua Xi Wan. Her personality is very lazy and nonchalant but she was very clear about the right and wrong especially towards the same gender. She’s definitely a girl girls for sure

As for the male lead, Yan Jin Qiu. There were many words that can described him but at end he’s a vicious scheming man who is ambitious but is actually just a henpecked husband.

the most disappointing character- Yan Bo Yi. I want to hate him but can’t really after all he’s just an ambitious man. But I really feel bad for his wife, actually I feel bad for all the females who married the wrong man in this novel.

“To accompany is the biggest act of love” although the couple didn’t really profess their love to each other but the love is clear at the end. <<less

I read a review some time ago on either this or To Be a Virtuous Wife's page, that stated these novels were like two sides of the same coin, where in TBVW, He Heng already had concubines and a pretty bad impression of oriFL so FL needed to protect herself more, but in Eight Treasures Trousseau, FL and ML start from the very beginning, with a relationship unmarred by others. Because of this the relationship the FL is able to trust the ML more and build a sincere relationship.

To me... more>> personally, I would rate 8TT slightly higher (like 5.1 to TBVW's 5) because of this. Their relationship was so warm (like a nice fireplace on a cold snowy day) whereas TBVW's relationship was like the snow itself, beautiful but cold. Overall you can't go wrong with either novels though if you like the ancient Chinese court drama romances. <<less

I love this novel. Thank you for translating it!! The titles were kept but were not over the top... not translated in a ridiculous, confusing way. I liked that the tl took the efford to explain titles or poems <3

About the characters, both ML and FL are as flawed as lovely. Both have their weakness and strong parts. They do not love each other just because they are pretty or fated. Antagonists are not idiotic. The plot is subtle and is built with care. I love so much that the author did not feel the need to spell every thought, every scheme. The characters feel what they feel and act more naturally, in that way. Many palace novels or "unfavored miss is rebirth and takes revenge", fall flat in this aspect. Do not explain that this character is inteligent or evil! Let me read what they do and I will get it, lol.

5 stars for me. I did not felt fed up with "slapping scenes of the bad. Oh, miss is so cunning!" even once. Usually I end rolling my eyes and skipping those.

She was lazy, but not indifferent. She has kindness to fellow women, especially women in ancient time that had less freedom and rights. She has her moral values.

This one's wayyy better than the other contemporary novel I read from this author (forgot the name) , where the objectification of men, just drained me. This one wasn't like that, there were some minute instances where the radical feminism still shone through (and I say that as a woman). But I think because this along with TBVW were historical novels that the author couldn't portray her dream life of a woman being constantly worshipped for doing absolutely NOTHING. (Yup I'm mad)

It's a good read. The relationship between ML and fML is good. I loved their development. And the plot otherwise was good. Nothing too awe inspiring but definitely a novel worth your time!

This story is so beautiful.

It's a novel full of nuance, implied meaning, intrigue and subtlety. Contrary to many other Chinese historical romance novels, where the author explains the double meaning of the dialogue, this story requires to be paid full attention and to have at least a little experience reading this genre to understand the undercurrents between characters. The characterization of women in this story.... Absolutely well done. All the important females of the novel are complex, intelligent, beautiful, real and tangible, their emotions are so vivid and you can feel and not just read their determination, helplessness, despair, resolution, and will. I love that there is no female villain in the story, they are all victims of their situation, of their families, of their own desires and, especially, of their husbands.

On the other hand, the prominent male characters, except the ML and direct family members of the FML, are absolute scum. They are selfish, entitled, disgusting, sexist, self-centered, arrogant and blind bastards.

The FML is there to be the perfect match for the ML. I found that this is one of the main points in their relationship. She didn't have ambition, she wasn't in love with him for a very long time well into the plot, but she was the perfect person for him to love. Another function of hers is to serve as a comparison for the rest of the female characters. She is constantly present in many pivotal moments for several female characters that show the reader how lucky the FML is. If anything, this story has taken away any possible wishful thinking to be reincarnated/transmigrated to any feudal/monarchy period of time, just after reading the ending of so many amazing women in fiction. It can give you a terrifying idea of reality.

This ML is one of the best that I ever read in a chinese novel. Yan Jin Qiu is #1 wifey stan.

I enjoyed the novel but can see where other people call it bland. It lacks shocking and sad moments, even with a lot of deaths.

To be very honest it's a dense novel

Hua Xi Wan, a marvelous character from which I couldn't resist myself to love, introduce you to life of ancient Nobel women, from the start you could see the biasedness towards male in society, you could see women doesn't even Right to say in her marriage, yet whole society call her fortunate to able to marry.
