Fake Slackers

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

After class placements were decided, the school’s two infamous ‘problem youths’ not only shared the same class, but the same desk.

They’re clearly good at studies, but pretend to be slackers. Fakers from head to toe who just keep walking farther down the path of their performance.

Heard through the grapevine about the two big brothers who always fight over the last place in class.

Basically, this is a serious comedy. About the little matters of growing up.

Adorable. That is probably the best way to describe this. It may be because I just completed high school too, but I could bond with the characters and the feel of this novel way more than I usually do with other novels. A very simple and sweet story, not deep or heavy, easy to read. It's one of those novels I'd read just to feel happy on a bad day.

The Plot:

It's not supposed to be heavy or deep, and it really doesn't need to be. I love it the way... more>> it is. It's so simple and cute, the development and pacing is just perfect. It doesn't feel dragging or too long. Really really love it.

The Characters:

I love them. I love all the characters. Everything is so high school kids-ish I love it. They're dumb, they're smart, they're struggling, they're happy. Very very well portrayed. Even the pressure of entrance exams is so on point, it is such a huge struggle, and the pressure makes us all break down so many times. Really really really well written characters. The side characters all have their own characteristics and don't just exist to get the CP together.

Relationships:

I don't usually make a different section for this, but bear with me I really need to talk about this. The bond between the CP is amazing, I don't even need to talk about it. There's no excessive drama, no big confessions. They bonded together slowly over time, and fell in love. So beautifully written.

The relationship between the MC and his mother, and all the other people from Black Water Street is also written very beautifully. The bond they form even though all of them are so different from each other is so lovely.

Last but not the least, the bond between the classmates is probably the best written here. I love how all of them warm up to the two "tyrants" of the school,
Spoiler

even going as far as to try and help the CP hide their relationship from others. It's hilarious really.

It is just beautiful watching them all go from silly second year kids to actually a bit more mature adults while still being a little goofy and mischievous. Really just read it for their friendship.

TL;DR:

Read it please, it's adorable. Simple, cute, makes your heart warm up. Give it a try! <<less

When I finished this, I was like "Ah, no wonder this was so popular." It's slow burn, sometimes it gets too dragged and I had to stop lest I get too bored. Teens would gobble this up hahaha since they could relate well. I felt nostalgia reading this, when my worries were only about my grades and when there were exciting school events.

It's quite realistic too-- nobody got kidnapped, got drugged, almost got r*ped, got into a car accident, etc. Etc.-- it's just what you expect from an ordinary high... more>> school life. There were some loose ends like
Spoiler

what the Zhong Young master's reaction towards Xie Yu's new grades and how their dysfunctional family eventually turned out, what University they got into and what professions they chose in the end, did their class and everyone they care for manage to know about their relationship or if they eventually came out to them;

[collapse]
but I think it serves its own purpose in a way that this story only tells a portion about their life; just because the book ended, doesn't mean that their story would end as well. <<less

I love this novel!!! This is just a simple story but has an impact especially for me who always slacks off. I really should strive studying like the characters while also enjoying life. Although I wish I'm like the main characters that has an IQ so high! feeling envy

The characters are the ones that I really like in this story. The MC is a tsundere but there's really this sweet soft spot in his heart for his family and friends, and of course for our wonderful ML. His little gestures... more>> swells up my heart. His concerns are discreet but it's so sweet.

ML is also very amusing and entertaining. His characteristics really made me love him. He's very funny like reaaally. He also loves MC so much it makes me jealous. Plus he's a very good actor haha. Oh so suave~

Not only the main characters but also the side characters deserves a praise.

The people in Black Water Street gains a salute and thumbs up from me. They are not blood-related family of XY but treats him very nicely. They are also funny hehe. I won't forget about Madam Gu and Old He of course, but I don't have much impressions on them.

The class 2.3 is really something. They are always together through thick and thin. Also Old Tang of course! He's a teacher you really would end up loving. A doting teacher that has a genuine care for his students. Dean Jiang and Wu Zheng too!

Spoiler

I don't really know if I should curse or praise class 2.4 though

[collapse]

I love each and every chapter but the Extra 4 is really my favorite (✯ᴗ✯) I love the scenes there, For those who haven't read the Extra 4 yet, just search, you'll find it. It's free.

It's a 5/5 for me. This has all the things I'm looking for in a slice of life novel. This is a light story with humor, romance, a little bit of drama, and also encouraging words.

And dog food for someone like me :"> <<less

A story of two boys who for various reasons have much more in common than either could predict.

Spoiler

Geniuses who hide their abilities. Next door neighbors. Deskmates. Fighting fiends. Eventual lovers. Their coming of age story is paced slowly by intent. As you watch their day to day hijinks in life and at school the author gives glimpses into their motivations for hiding so much from those around them. Especially their friends and family. Mc's moms reaction when she found out the truth was both shorter than I expected and also so perfectly done it encapsulated everything I loved about their relationship. ML and his dad are a trip.

[collapse]

At heart its a school comedy with really strong characterization and surprising depth. The pacing felt odd because I wanted answers to questions faster than we got them but it was actually perfect for showing how the boys bonded and eventually let go of their fears enough to move forward. There were no true villains; however, the author did a fantastic job showing how people can so easily hurt each other when they make assumptions or only consider their own interests. It also made me laugh out loud more than once with the killer one liners. A chill, sweet, funny and poignant story of two boys falling in love and growing up. Whats not to like? <<less

Amazing

This high school romance gives great feel-good vibes.

I read it a long time ago though I could not complete it because of paid chapters but I remember that, however much I have read, it was good.

It feels different from other high school novels I have read even though I can't pinpoint what exactly it is which makes it unique.

It's beautifully written.

Totally recommended.

It's a good story. Although some might not like it, I had a pretty good time reading this. Of course not everything is mushy mellow at first, everything develops. All in all, I like it, it's good, it is my opinion so no one can tell me otherwise.

To be honest, there were many times I want to drop this novel. The pace is too slow at the beginning. However, this hillarious ML made me want to stick around. He cracks me up with his self confidence. Even the teachers could not help but find him amusing despite his bad grades. And when he got together with MC, what else, they are just cutest. I love all their banters and flirting. With ML, I found MC got more interesting. Don't forget their classmates. Haha, they are so loyal... more>> to backup the two of them. But, there are things that I wish the writer could do more:

Spoiler

The conclusion with MC and ML's stop being fake slackers is kinda... flat. I thought it will be more emotional and I get it. Maybe the writer didn't want to drag it. But I think it could be done much better than that.

Spoiler

No further details for ML's family??? But ML obviously missed his sister.

I liked the characters and setup of the story. The relationship between the two main characters is very well written, but I think there were some conflicts that should have been given more of a focus, and were not resolved in a way that is satisfying. I would have liked it if there was more of a focus on the families of both main characters and perhaps even the community of the street that Xie Yu originally lived on. The conflicts and part of their stories that should be considered... more>> very important were not focused on as much. I think if the subplots had been resolved in a more satisfying manner, I would have definitely given this a 5/5. <<less

Finished it in two days, though there were a few times when I wanted to take a break.. Cute funny story.. But not memorable much..

One of the best things about this story is that the students actually study seriously.. I've read many high school stories where students do everything except study, or one of the main couple is inconsiderate towards their partner's academic career and hinders it nonchalantly.. And I always find it irritating.. Perhaps that's the reason I stuck to this story till the end..

But the story slowed down... more>> once the main characters confirmed their feelings.. And to put it bluntly, became dull after they knew each other's true identity..

I've always been a sucker to the first love thing, and personally witnessed many decade long first loves to end up in happy married lives.. So I was quite excited at first.. But to be honest I am not very fond of high school s*x.. It always made the story bland in my eyes..

There's no twist or turn.. No unnecessary drama.. As I said before, it's enjoyable but won't take much time to forget it either.. <<less

Even though its pay to read....its worth your money

From the summary, I had thought the plot will be comedic, both leads trying to place last just for fun and being rivals. But they had their own proper reasons for scoring low. The story was still fun and touching tho. It was a normal highschool romance with sprinkle of comedy but it definitely had a lot of redeeming points I loved!

Plot:Highschool BLs mostly take the approach of fluffy romance or heartwarming overcoming difficulties plot. But this one took a rather casual... more>> yet genuine approach on the romance. Both leads fell in love simultaneously but had low EQ. Their falling in love wasn't because of some specific events or he helped me overcome this or he's so vital in my life stuff. They spent their time together and got involved into each other lives and just fell in love. (it wasn't heartwarming but actually felt real and genuine!) Both confessed at the same time. And after getting together both of them didn't shy away but expressed their love and flirted a lot!

Our Leads: MC was the cold aloof type. But he felt more like a tsundere? His mouth said 'scram' but he would still obediently do what you requested. He was strong in beating and provoking people. Intelligent too.I really loved how he was clear cut in expressing his love and occasionally asked for kisses and flirted back. He not only teased the ML but also beat him up. Really loved how he called the ML ge and gege. That really tugged on my heart! He really cared for his family and friends a lot even tho he looked cold. He's definitely one of my favourites now!

This ML is already on of my favourites too. Why? I mean all the MLs I have seen whether cold emotionless or Gentle kind ones. They always are 'perfect' without flaws. Even tho I like them they seem so unreal. But the ML here seemed real with his shameless attitude to his timidity getting scared of ghosts! His interactions always brought a smile on my face. He wasn't nice only to the MC rather he was a really frank, friendly and outgoing dude that would lighten the atmosphere just by being there. He joked a lot. Messed around a lot. But he was henpecked around the MC. Not only that, he never forced the MC about anything.

Both of them truly were equal of each other whether in fighting or during exams. And that pleased me a lot!

Side characters:I really damn loved their class first of all. Even though they were scared of the two leads at first. They got so friendly with them later on. Casually joking with them. And messing around as a whole class. They even caught their bad habits of being shameless and beating up people without much talk. They pulled quiet a lot of mischiefs as a class xD. They didn't over react after discovering their relationship rather they even tried to help them cover it up. The teachers were strict yet affectionate too. The parents shown were supportive of their children and loved them a lot! It was really touching reading about these

The ending was quite good. Ending with the class pulling more mischief and ML and MC thinking about their future together. The extras even showed their university life and professional life. They were extremely heartwarming!

It was really different and better than typical highschool romances. So I do think its worth your money. <<less

This is a good romance/school life. The novel practically exudes the kind of youthfulness (that I wish I had), and captures the school life and teenage years really well. The romance is also nice, though rather slow, but no forcing, and it's quite comforting to read.

That being said, the premise of this novel ... more>>

Both ML and MC are OP f*cks who are hiding their good grades.

[collapse]
might come off as cliché or not a very outstanding plot, perhaps, to some readers. Both ML and MC are quite OP, so skip this novel if you don't like OP characters. "Genius Protagonist" is also in the tag, so don't complain 'bout that if you finish reading it. It seems that some people also don't like the slow moving plot line, focused on the school activities rather than the romance at first, so it really depends on the reader whether the book is good or really good.

Last thing, the characters are really well done. No flat characters, no overwhelming amount of characters to the point where I can't even remember the ML's name, and their personalities are really bright, like not the cheerful kind of bright, but more like colourful, or something like that. I also love the teacher. Wish I had a teacher like that before. Probably coulda been a better student.

Anyways, I'd definitely recommend this book and please excuse my bad English. Have a nice day. <<less

(4.75 for me)

Honestly I will admit that I got little bored while reading at first. It was slow paced.... quite slow but as I went on and reached to the end I can finally say this was the best mordern highschool novel I have ever read.

It was kind of nostalgic feeling for me as I used to be a fake slackers too (but I wasn't like ML or MC smart) and lot of reality that happen in our student life like (Teacher behavior and treatment towards good grade... more>> students and bad grade students) and some of the things that I wish really did happened with me but didn't happened:

The age-coming ceromony or whatever..... it was so beautiful and emotional. I wish I too had that but there isn't any ceromony like this in my country..... Sad ‪ (•̥ ˍ •̥) ‬ and also ML dad is the coolest dad ever.

(A Shameless, Cheerful, Funny Smart ML) X (A Cool, aloof, killer, Smart MC.) Honestly I think it would have been even more better if we all didn't knew and didn't got hint that ML was smart too. well, it's not bad like this too.

The romance and relationship between MC and ML........ It was really sweet..... so sweet that it can give me cavity (I don't know why it got tagged in Shonen ai Genre when it clearly should be in Yaoi Genre but whatever). I was waiting for MC to introduce ML to her god mother and his friend as his boyfriend but it didn't happened (¯^¯).

It was pretty interesting to see all other side characters and their interaction and thoughts. It was a fun and nostalgic journey almost made me want to return back to the time of my highschool days.

PS: I was hoping for getting Tang Sen story too, the reason he came to their (MC) school.

Love and Peace. <<less

Love the novel though a bit slow in some chapters when the focus is too much on their school activities and not on them. But overall I love their stories, their growth and their love and trust despite being in their adolescence. I like their straightforward characters and no pull and push in their relationship. I also like that there is no 3rd party s*umbags to make a drama out of a beautiful love story.

PS I managed to read the whole novel sans the 3 extra chapters.

The novel itself is great! Very sweet, very cute. It earns 4.5 stars from me (so far). However, none of the links work and it doesn’t seem like any of the extras were released (unless they were included in the 112 chapters). I read up to chapter 82 (waiting for 83) on a different site which I had to Google, myself. Imagine my disappointment when I discovered the novel isn’t completely translated and, in addition, updates slowly. Oh well. To clarify, the only reason I’m giving this novel a 3-star... more>> rating rather than a 5-star rating is solely the updater’s blame. <<less

This is sweet and reminiscent of my time back in highschool. I couldn't really tell who was the ML and MC til almost halfway thru the book. This book doesn't go too deep into anything. It's a nice daily life story of their daily lives and struggles in high school. They left alot of things hanging like the friend who left to go to school out of the country, the step brother's reaction to MC's high exam scores, etc. Not sure if there's a 2nd volume. Their relationship is really... more>> good together. They deeply trust and are loyal to each other. Overall a very nice read. <<less

If you like/know the web comic 19 days, it's that sort of feel once you get past the first few chapters. The ending made me feel a bit depressed that it ended just like that. (I wanted to read more!) Good book, but it might be better to wait for the extras.

It’s a very fluffy story, if you’re into school settings then this one is 100% up your alley. Both MC and ML are very funny and I like how even though they’re described as cold or silly they still show moments where they joke around or get serious. While I wish we saw more of the Black Water Street people, I really liked the background characters and the character interactions.

Plot-wise there’s not much, it’s a very fun and light hearted story with very little drama. For better or worse, the... more>> story and the character interactions are very very reminiscent of OP teacher mangas. Think ‘Assassination Classroom’, ‘Gokusen’ or ‘Greatest Teacher Onizuka’. The feel is very very similar and while you don’t have the teacher character as the central figure, the whole class being friends/banding together feeling is there.

Overall, it’s a very solid high-school story with lots a humor and fluff. While it wasn’t some mind shattering, life altering reading experience for me; I still had a very fun time reading and recommend you give this story a shot. <<less

I barely read modern stories now that's why I have low expectations but omggg I didnt expect to enjoy it so much. Trust me the romcom will make u stay. Even the side characters blended so well. The leads' endless bickering and showoff attitudes were so entertaining anyway im glad I stumbled upon this story by accident,... more>> it was fun~ <<less

a great novel. I didn't even realize it ended till I got to the last chapter, it still felt too little!!!! as great as the novel was, my review for the most part will contain my personal opinions on what I felt was a bit lacking. alo possible spoilers ahead, read at ur own risk.

first of all I just want to say that there is nothing realistic about this novel what so ever.... it annoys me when ppl say that cuz in reality ppl dont purposely get such bad grades... more>> for such reasons and actually coincidentally happen to be in the same school... not hating/judging but I mean-it ain't realistic.

i do love all characters as well as the whole budding romance and fluffiness, but I did hope that I would see a bit of internal-struggle within the two teenagers about being gay or confessing to the other. This IMHO would have given the book more life, made readers feel more apart of the novel since im sure everyone/most ppl have had that 'identity' struggle. WHO AM I? WHAT AM I GOING TO BECOME? IS WHAT IM DOING/FEELING WRONG/RIGHT? AM I MAKING A MISTAKE? SHOULD I GO FOR THIS?

something I found vexing in this book is the MC's whole family situation. I mean him getting bad grades was to protect his mom from harsh rumors/criticism since he didn't have the ability to do so.... but after he straightened his grades, the issue with the step-bro was never mentioned again, even if he was the main reason behind it?! it's a huge glaringly annoying plot-hole IMO!!!!! Not only that but I felt that the step-dad was not mentioned well enough, the same with ML's dad.... tf did he do?Are they rich/poor/ok? basically their back-story is so blank.i would have liked to know a lot more about these side-characters who are closely related to MC/ML. like MC's aunt/god-mom was mentioned so much but we still don't get her significance of her role, what happened with ML mom+sis, the MC dad.... heck! tf was up with that teachers back story?!?

basically this is a sweet slice-of-life, high school years of youth kinda story it doesn't leave a huge impact if you've read many similar BL novels before, you know apart from both leads being smart+tyrants who hide their true abilities and the MC being the cold aloof one and ML being the seemingly laughing devil, nothing too special. nut it still creeps into your heart slowly bit by bit and completely traps it in,

i really enjoy our MC being the tease and not typical scrawny delicate MC-shou

i also especially loved that studying app/game part of the ovel, it was very unique and interesting. its a pity tho that it wasn't as explored on as I would have liked it to be. But again apart a few plot holes and some vague happenings that dont affect the main story line. the whole book is great.

translators have done a great job too, thank you author, thank you translator! <<less
