Let me first start by saying that I only found out about this story because two of my favorite stories were ridiculed and 1-star rated by, let's call this person, Meany. So I checked out Meany's profile to see what (let's assume a she) she considered a 5-star, and this story was it.

4/5 for me.

It's the kind of story that leaves its imprints in your memory. And whenever you think back to it, a smile accompanied by a warm fuzzy feeling materialises on your face.

The translation was alright, the story was well paced, the characters were memorable, and the fluff was EVERYTHING. There were so many moments throughout the novel that made me scream out loud from the overwhelming wholesomeness.

Wholesome? Oh, it is absolutely wholesome. In a ridiculously super cliche way.

I am completely being a bit*h because I am pissed at this person, so don't take my review to heart. Except for Meany.

First of all, b*tch,

A LOT of these translations are done for free. You are more than welcome to go to your local library, local bookstore, and any other locations near you and read books that have been edited and approved for publishing prints that has good eNgLiSh~.

f*ck off with that entitled attitude! If you don't like a translator's work then go find another one, or else, bye, go enjoy them MTLs. Ungrateful b*tches like you will ruin the experience overall for others.

Second, if I am speaking realistically, this story is about as creative as those shoujo mangas that shares the same tropes and character types.

Did I enjoy the story? I sure absolutely did. I also cringed at a lot of the scenes too, and not even from secondhand embarrassment. A lot of the scenes were easily predictable that it was cringey.

But, for you to bit*h and low rate so many other stories over petty sh*t only for you to 5-star this makes all your reviews seem so f*cking ridiculous. Some of the other stories you b*tched about actually does have a plot, character development, memorable characters, have fluffy moments, have wholesome moments, and, yes, when I think about them, I also have a smile materialized on my resting bit*h face!

Based on your basic ass review for this story you so graciously rated a whole f*cking 5/5 for, I concluded that the only reason yo b*tchass is being mean is because:

  1. Bad translation
  2. Not wholesome enough
  3. Not fluffy enough
Green Plum Island is fluffy and wholesome, but I say that ML still needs a redemption arc and still need more character development because his character is basically a walking red flag as much as all the f*cking ML from the stories you bit*h about.

I'ma be honest, I didn't read all the chapters!

Listen, before reading the novel, I'd seen a review saying it was really boring. But then I wondered; how boring can a love novel be? Am I right?! Well, I should have listened to that review lol😂 By chapter 13 I just couldn't take it anymore. Had to skip 10 chapters at a time after that. And even then it was like; meh. It's only the last 2 chapters that were nice. So...

The plot seems really original and not cliche. So atleast... more>> the author has that going on. Characters are passable as well. Maybe it's just that 'slice of life' novels are just like that at the end of the day; boring.

Would I read this again? No. Would I recommend this? I'd recommend reading 'Plum Candy love' instead. Wayyyy more interesting. <<less

Slice of life, very calm and bittersweet story.

I really like MC's straightforwardness just as the same as MC in Flying Gulls since they're from the same author. Afterall, a love that blossomed during summer holidays is a do it now or nothing kind of "bet" to him. He was very proactive in chasing his love and also very brave. His OS were often very funny too. It was another sad school life of being bullied due to his sexuality but the forward-looking him did not dwell on it too long.... more>> I LOVE the interactions between his grandpa and him. I have a soft spot for old people and seeing how much he doted on his grandson and how much Yu Mian also cared for his grandpa, it was really heartwarming.

ML Yan Kongshan is a very kind and gentle person. He was always respectful and helpful to the islanders.

He had to sacrifice his job to take care of his niece after his sister passed away suddenly and I think that was very responsible and respectable.

He was gentle in a sense that he warns MC on his advancements because he is a straight man and things may not work out between them and he doesn't want MC to get hurt. His actions were really gentleman though - like opening can drink, cooking and doing the dishes. He is also very good at teasing people and was literally a goo. I even got fluttery from his actions haha.

Qiuqiu is also a very smart kid for her age. Sometimes kids really say the darndest things and it's so true for her. She surprises me sometimes. MC's friend Sun Rui is very dependable and she is a great friend to have. Her straightforwardness in sexuality is over the top - such a daredevil. I really love her. MC's aunt was very supportive throughout as well especially when she went against the usual route of marriage and it was tough for a women at her time. The people on the island were all very helpful and I really felt that neighbourhood spirit in the book. I wished I could transmigrate there. It was such a great read I don't regret taking this up. <<less

Forgot to add stars, but wanted to give it a 5 star rating.

Slow burn romance that turned incredibly sweet. It's a slice of life, coming-of-age story of a boy with special abilities (he can see other people's emotions as colors and numbers) who spend the summer at Green Plum Island with his grandfather and falls for the older, jaded next door neighbor.

The MC and ML are a bit similar to the CP in Flying Gulls Never Land, another novel by this author. They're just healthier, well-adjusted versions without the craziness... more>> and toxic behavior. The MC pursues the ML, who's lost faith in love and hesitates to get involved because of the age difference and his own unwillingness to get into a relationship.

The writing is really good, and the translation allows it to shine. All the characters are three-dimensional, endearing people. The girl is adorable. I think she would have been a bit more realistic if the author had changed her age to 6-7, since 5 years old is really too young to be able to talk like she does. But that's the only actual problem I can think of. Everything else just flows really well. It's not a very exciting plot, but the charm is in the detail.

The coming out part was very touching.

The MC is down to earth, smart and relatable, one of the more engaging MCs I've encountered. The ML gradually revealed an sweet side that made me enjoy his character more and more towards the end. This novel hands out dog food in just the right amount.

A lot of fluffy novels feel bland and boring, but this one had just the right amount of tension between the CP to keep me hooked. It also didn't drag, which is always a plus.

Note: the cross-dressing is for a performance, not something they normally do. <<less

I swear, this was really good before they got together, and then afterwards it was a immediate 5 stars. Their dynamic 🥲.

The scene of the maiden festival, becautiful. I will 💯 attempt to draw this scene when exams are over in the summer. Also that first letter he wrote him was the best I've ever read. Poetic, brought me to tears.

I really need more of them.

Those who have read this novel will understand how much secondhand embarrassment the MC has given me. All for the sake of chasing his first love.

This is a light, heartwarming, sweet and with little-to-no angst BL novel. The MC has a synesthesia which regarded as the fantasy part of the story (synesthesia is actually not a fictional thing though I'm not sure about the kind of synesthesia the MC has), but it was much more of a realistic, slice of life, spending his two-month post-highschool break in an... more>> island. Unlike the MC, I could never have done those embarrassing things to chase my crush, but maybe that's why I'm still a single dog LOL He's so determined and that's what I love about him, and his love and determination won over the already cynical in love ML.

It's not really a big deal in my opinion since the MC is already in his right age but still, trigger warning for a huge age gap relationship (9 years) for those people uncomfortable in that kind of trope. The age gap actually played a big role in the story and that was where the conflict first rooted. I actually love how the young MC and the full-grown adult ML both provided the maturity and immaturity ideals of life and relationship on the table. And the story not only provided a romantic relationship but also a sweet and adorable family relationship (greetings to the ever supportive tea eggs granpa and the clever qiuqiu).

This is a short read (in my opinion since I'm used to reading an average of 200-chapter novel) and very recommended (don't forget to read the five extra chapters!!). Might not be what you're looking for if you're more into drama and angst in a relationship. Please give this fluffy story a try!! <<less

This story wasn't up to my expectations. The translation was good, that was the only thing that made it a bit more appealing to me.

It's about MC's first crush in a warm summer. Their relationship development is a bit too much one sided for me. One sided love stories aren't bad, but this one's leaning too much on one sided.

The point which makes I disliked the most was the fact that how the MC is the only one working hard to develop the relationship.

The too much work from one side... more>> and no work from the other side gives it a disbalanced vibe.

The ML just loves giving MC a hard time, just for nothing.

MC is our daily life boy next door, which gives a real life vibe to his character which I found both relatable and bland

The interactions between them was also nothing, just grey. After MC's relentless pursuing the ML succumbs to his desires. <<less

I really love this story. It's very cute, very fluffy and at the same time exudes a lot of youthful energy.

This is more focused on the slice of life part with a first person story from a recently graduated high school student. So the story took a more childish energy as opposed to the usual danmei from a grown up person. For me at least, it's a fresh and new perspective because sometimes danmei with a character around this age have a more grown up approach for the characters and... more>> lacks the youthfulness and impulsiveness of high school students. So for me the way the MC thinks is very justifiable. He's a recently graduated high school student having his first love and like most high school student, he tries to be closer to the person he likes and be with them. At least for me the story was very enjoyable.

I really recommend the story for people who likes novels like A Certain Someone (by the way this one was really good, by Mu Su Li) but lighter in approach and plot, you can totally give this one at least a try. Maybe for people who likes a more mature MC, its probably not really your thing. But for me this story is good enough and I really enjoy reading it.

Reading this story is like taking a stroll on a town next to the beach in summer with the sun high in the air. Very relaxing and healing. <<less

Imo, the writing style is really great, it makes me feel like I'm at the scene myself, I was used to reading first pov and third pov stories so it's not really a bother to me reading stories with pov the author is comfortable with, maybe... more>> people here with low ratings most likely to rate it low because it's the mc's pov

Okay, I was reading other comments and someone said that the MC had nothing to do and just always trying to insert his life to the ML, be reminded that the MC is young, he's a bit immature and wants to be with the person he likes (and what the heck, it's vacation, he really had nothing to do lol).

Who didn't have a crush in his/her teen age year? Of course it's first love, MC is not used to it and of course if you like someone for the first time, you'll try to get close to this person as much as possible, I can't understand people who's trying to point out every action of the characters like they should do this, they should do that, because what? That's what you would do? Every person has a different reaction to their crush, the MC is even more proper than the people same age with him, he's experiencing puberty, too much hormones, new feelings, experiencing first love, out of control, he didn't even go out of line! And if the ML doesn't like the MC sticking around he would told him to back off, the way the MC tries to get close is even the same way of how you would act with a new found friend, what's there to complain about? I myself is eighteen years old, and I'm telling y'all, he's more mature than me and the people with the same age with me. The MC has a wide range of understanding of things that I didn't even think about, to make it short, I've learned many things from him.

If the MC ain't bold enough, nothing will happen to them because you can see how the ML doesn't want relationship. I like the MC too because even though he's young, and youngsters are more reckless, he still knows his boundaries, if he feels like he shouldn't be so nosy, he wouldn't, he respects the ML, and it always shows. (I really like the ML, he respects the MC so much too.)

The characters here is well written/established by the author. This is really a gem! <<less

It's my first time read Slice of life Danmei novel. The pace of the story was really nice. Not boring. Smooth and Sweet.

MC is rare wonderful character! He's a proactive protagonist. He didn't give up reaching the ML when he get the opening. He wasn't forceful. His persistence only there because he was 'allowed'. He's a good character. Not annoying at all, and never annoy the ML too. ML is also wonderful character. When he reject, and when he give opening, it was in nice way. His possessiveness is not... more>> heavy at all, it was decent (almost make want to remove the tag). But the tag did justice because to us (readers) we can tell when he was jealous, and the cause of his dropped mood.

All side characters is Wonderful, Good and Great! Except of course the characters that isn't mean to be good one.

The story barely has conflict. I mean, it does has conflicts, but not heavy one!

The Ending is Great! It was very Comforting and Happy and Absolutely Great!

Personally I won't call it perfect or satisfying, but in a way it was Satisfying and Lovely! I Really Love this novel so much!!!

when I started reading it... reminded me of those mangas of typical MC from the quiet countryside thingy

but while reading on, my mind discarded that idea and a new imagination came abroad~

This was the first Modern Danmei I read and I read when I was going through some stuff and wanted to read an easy, short and sweet story. This is exactly what it is. Short and sweet.

All the characters are loveable and very well written. MC and ML seem to have good chemistry and inspite of having an age difference between them, it doesnt look weird.

One of the characters in the story describes the MC as comfortable but I want to describe the novel as it.

I just finished reading, and I have no words to describe what I feel now. I can only say that if you don't read this novel you will regret it. It is not a story with dog blood, it does not have bitter fights, nor is it a sweet story to the point of being nauseating. It's a funny story, with sweet and sour moments like green plums.

This was such a great read even if it was short. Im not one for reading romance novels, I'm usually more into fantasy/action novels but even I can enjoy and good romance here and there especially one written and translated so well.

Everything was so great the characters felt real nothing felt forced and it felt more like I was watching a movie where everything just fell into place.

I totally recommend others to give it a try.

PSA: ML is 1000% my fictional type

This novel was too much my cup of tea, to the point where I nearly choked on the drink from the very first chapter. I’ll just say that MC’s introduction in the novel made me weak in the knees & I could only light candles for myself because I had about 50+ chapters to go. It’s such a good story tbh. Though at first, I dislike ML’s crude behaviour. I feel it’s disgraceful and shameful and don’t deserve our Mian Mian, since Mian Mian is a pure baby. But I forgive him as he never did those sh**** stuffs again ever since he knew Mian Mian. Yep. I hate seeing my baby Mian heartbroken. Definitely a story worth reading!! So lovely, cute and fluffy. I especially adore the grandpa and MC hehe.

The relationship between the MC and ML is just so good. Anyway this story is so addicting for me. I think I have reread this 3 times already.

If you want something short and light with good writing then you have to read this.

Well I thought of reading this but I got cold feet now even though there are many positive reviews. There is a review that stuck out to me

One the ML being always passive and looking like he was so reluctant to have the mc

Two said the ML being ambiguous to the mc

... more>> Tree always sleep around and being a jerk to them afterwards

I dont know if all of the three are true but I guess I'm still not going to read this right now I'm scared of how much dignity and shame the MC is going to trow ending of the ML reluctantly accepting him.

(Well some really good reviews said that ML really like MC he just scared to love but I don't it's enough to be ambiguous to MC, some said in their relationship the ML is the one that being sticky well if that's true that's good but still I don't think I have enough heart to read this)
