Marquis Jingyong and her younger sister had a deep relationship, and after many twists and turns, finally broke through all hardships and became eternal lovers. While Cheng Yujin was the villain who replaced her sister’s good marriage, kept framing her sister, and hindered the main couple to be together. A really wicked older sister and poisonous late wife.

After the younger twin sister was reborn, she revealed Cheng Yujin’s ‘conspiracy’ early on. Everyone scorned her, and her so-called fiance was indifferent. Cheng Yujin sneered and tore off their engagement letter in front of her fiance.

Everyone was gloating and happily waiting to see her regret her actions. However, before Marquis Jingyong had a chance to see Cheng Yujin’s regret, he saw his former fiancee marrying her uncle.

The ninth uncle of Cheng family was truly a hidden dragon, his real power frightening everyone.

***

Cheng Yujin, this coquettish little wife, lightly lifted her eyebrows and casually said, “A mere Marquis Jingyong, is he worthy? Do you think that robbing him away will affect me?”

Almost forgot to say, ninth uncle wasn’t surnamed Cheng. His real name was Li Chengjing, the crown prince.

Ok, this story has a very surprising MC/FL when it comes on reflecting her "past life" - the memories she received (we can't surely tell its a past life or a dream about a possible future because there are several instances where she talks about it as something she saw rather than lived through) - and her attitude towards it.

Spoiler

Usually when a MC gets to know about her previous circ*ntances the novel turns into a crusade for vendetta or a quest for survival. But in this story despite that first scene where our FL snaps at her previous husband, we don't see her actively going after then... or even thinking about them that much. And later on she even comments on it during childbirth, that she only blames herself for her death, for leaving the decision over her life-and-death struggle to her previous mother in law, Huo Xue Shi. Yes, she has a bad opinion on Huo Chengyang, and yes, she is not all supportive of her sister. But there's no real hardfeelings. She is bigger than that.

[collapse]

Even towards her sister (which is not a mindless character, just incapable), that due to her inferiority complex keeps coming at our lead.

And I love this extremely capable couple, and how their interactions caused their feelings to grow in a very natural way. Chengjing, our ML, didn't like FL all that much in the beginning, but he reflects several times during the novel over how the changes on his opinion on her and it never feels forced, it feels logical. He is not a guy who randomly falls in love at first sight for the FL, and neither he is an overbearing character. What I love the most about him is about his deep respect for women, and there's a scene...

Spoiler

Some months into their marriage, when he rejects getting a cefei and asks her to trust him. She loves herself above all but he is still hoping that Yujin warms up and trusts/loves him, and so he tells why he wishes to only have her as wife. And the reason is not primarily love, but his respect for the women in his life. First - his mother (and we get to know her parents were in a monogamous relationship, and later on when she married the Prince Kang (current emperor) he only had her as a wife in the beginning), later on he was raised by Xue Shi, a scholarly and prideful woman that also refused marriage because she couldn't stomach the thought of concubinage. And so, because of that and other minor things, he knows how important a woman presence is, and that she shouldn't be taken lightly, and so taking concubines for no reason would be an insult to his wife.

[collapse]

And lastly, their journey never felt forced. The problems that existed never got erased by plot convenience. When she married way above her social standing, it didn't get smoothed out because the ML was there, but because of her attitude and hardwork.

Rather than a FL that has powerful godly beasts, amazing battle skills or an inhumanly brain that has all memories of her previous life down to what second this or that event happened and has to rely on it.... I love Yujin. She is the type of capable female that be on an ancient setting or modern life would be a succesful woman.

I hope more people will read this novel, and thank you for the translator for your impecable work!

Ps: I would have loved if the author wrote extra chapters on the other characters she "abandoned" through the novel, like Duke Zhai, Brother Lin and her sister/Marquis Hou. I felt that this would bring some closure to this characters that suddenly disappeared from the plot to the end of the story, even if in the beginning they were always actively brought into it. <<less

I really appeetiated it.

It was a beautiful, logucal and emothional jorney for two people who only had each other.

You may be somehow frustraited with the FL mindset and how it doesnt change untill almeost the end of the story, but that was their reality... she has lived 14 years with it, just for her survival.. her only goel is to leave that damn house and to have a son and enough money.

At last I should say that its a gem, you gonna love it wholeheartedly.

This novel, OMG I love it. I love the FL and Ml, their love, I don't words to express their love. Lately I've been being very critical of what I read and sometimes I get to the point of not finishing what I'm reading, I thought it was because maybe I was bored to read, but I think it was just because I couldn't find good stories, I liked the story so much. Development of both protagonists, it was not an abrupt love but, a slow love, and when you... more>> realize both main characters already loved each other, adore how they evolved throughout the text; I liked it so much that I will read another novel by the same author. 5 stars excellent service <<less

MC is playfully pragmatic with a calm outer disposition. She has a very intelligent and humorous approach to her situation. She is skilled at turning conflicts around on the opponent. Her face slapping abilities are more elegant and subtle than most, often leaving others believing that she is the one that was wronged. She does not chase after revenge, only her own happiness.

The ML stands out as more reasonable than the average ML. He fits into a lot of cliche ML categories, but is not quite as arrogant. That's not... more>> to say he never gets angry, but he is a lot more respectful and dignified in his actions. The slow development towards a closer relationship between the MC and ML is very believable and pretty sweet.

MC's pursuit of various husband candidates is pretty amusing. Some might find it frustrating, but I see it differently. First of all, it shows she is very self aware. She knows what kind of options a woman in her era has, and so she carefully pursues what she determines to be the best path. Yes, it means the ML falls in love first, all while she still seems to be going after another man, but I think it's not that she has no interest in the ML, rather, because she is aware of the huge difference in their status' she does not allow herself to consider him a possibility.

Besides, not only does this situation give the ML motivation to act, but it also provides some of the main drama for the story. When you have such strong protagonists, scenarios like this allow for some excitement without detracting from the abilities and competence of the MC and ML.

This is an engaging story that seems to be setting itself up for a satisfying ending. <<less

its really refreshing to see an MC like this. The ML is as expected just pretty much the same as other standard ML'S but I quite like him for being gentle and respectful. The MC on the other hand depicts the inner thoughts of women in that era. the whole picking a husband and choosing. of course given that she has the qualifications to do so. TBH im not gonna lie, watching her be so calculative and trying to get the attention of the men made me somewhat uncomfortable but... more>> I also understood it. If I were in her shoes id try to maximize my personal benefits too. I like that the family relationship in not too bad-yes the daughter-in-laws snub at each other and all try to curry favor with the old lady even the MC with her great boot-licking skills and although the MC was neglected, it was not in terms of food/clothes/luxury but probably just genuine parental affection.

the story itself has not much going on, just the simple journey of their interactions as 'uncle and niece' and later as a married couple. watching them improve their relationship was pleasing to watch but it would have been better if there was more about the bedroom matters.... lol I mean the book is pretty plain, and revolved around their relationship for the most part of it and just a tiny bit about the court. Honestly its just him teasing her a lot and then she putting things off because of etiquette and what not-dont blame her much but it really was true when they said she was wooden. would've preferred her more active than just doing things passively just because it was her duty or she wanted her son.

a lot of characters-plenty in fact-just end up disappearing after being shown quite often which was annoying. the protags seem to have no friends which makes it dull sometimes,

the antagonists are pretty reasonable for the most part and there is no unreasonable killing/dying in the story.

i liked it, maybe not the most memorable but its not a bad read at all-if you can accept the MC that is.

also no one mentioned it here but towards the ending there were some pretty interesting things going on with the ML... too bad MTL didnt make it clear : (

hmmm give it a try! <<less

Interesting enough story but I'm dropping it for now.

The translator has done a good job and the character premise is interesting i.e. The to main leads but the story didn't really grab me. I wasn't the biggest fan of the fact that the only really meaningful interaction the FL had was with the ml. This is due to her fundamentally selfish personality, which I usually don't mind but at this point in the story it inhibits character interaction and I don't think that will change going forward.

This story could perfectly... more>> well be someone else's cup of tea, so give it a try to find out. <<less

I'm sorry I tried my best to finish this story but I just can't.

It has a good plot and many interesting characters. The social issues that appear in this novel are also excellently discussed. If you are fine with a very slow novel, if you have that patience, this is a good one to read honestly. And although I bet people are questioning how a 14-15 yo could be that smart or scheming, but honestly I think it's still possible guys nothing's wrong with her character.

BUT! At the same time,... more>> the thing that make me struggling in finishing it is mostly their ages. I know very well how in ancient times it was soooo common for girls her age to be already married off to someone, most times the partners were much older than the girls. But it still got me uncomfortable sometimes in some parts of the novel. I told myself many times while reading it to just forget the age setting, it worked most of the time, but it got to the part when the MC and ML finally married, and then somehow it didn't work anymore. I tried to continue until c101, but after that I don't know I just can't continue anymore.

If you are fine with their ages, this kind of theme, and very slow-moving progress, I still think this novel is worth recommending. But if you don't, then perhaps we should fine something else to spend our time. <<less

A good read. I’m sorry I didn’t get to this sooner — much healthier experience than some brain dead selfish leads. The motivations of the leads are realistic enough not to eye roll at. While you also get the smooth road of the shuangwen, the dangers they face are scarily well depicted.

I enjoyed reading this story. It definitely has less political maneuvering and scheming than the author’s other work: TCPITJP.

My favourite part of the novel is honestly the FL’s struggles. There’s a lot of social commentary about the struggles of females in that era. The hardships that they face - reputation, filial piety are things that have severe consequences in that time and place. It is very interesting to read about how FL navigated and overcomed her troubles.

She is a schemer but she is working hard towards making a better life... more>> for herself. FL had no one to rely on but herself and at the beginning of the novel, she says this “I love only myself” and I think that’s a strong message that most people don’t get.

There aren’t many faceslapping scenes and her negligent family still lives well because that isn’t the focus of the story. It is how a FL and ML work hard together to change their fate. They’re kinda OP that’s true but I enjoyed every bit of this.

Highly recommended and translation is SO GOOD. <<less

Honestly really good.

Countering a different commenter though, I don't think it's better than The Rebirth of the Malicious Empress of Military Lineage in terms of plot intrigue, but regardless two things can be true at once that they are both well written!

I can agree that the two have similar vibes in how the FLs both take the reigns and endeavour to fix their own lives when given the chance, after seeing what happens in the future.

The only thing I feel could be improved is that perhaps the FL could be... more>> less perfect, it's a bit much for my head to wrap around someone her age being so glib-tongued and physically perfect.

This is NOT to say it's a big distraction in the novel though! It's plenty good perhaps because the author bolsters it with her very unlucky upbringing.

Other that that I really have not much other complaints. The story is good, perhaps could have more romance (but tbh it fits with the main couple's personalities), but overall everything tied up neatly.

Not much else to say except promote "TROTMEOML",

Spoiler

I prefer it still because the world building feels more vast as the main couple moves from place to place and encounters all sorts of drama and characters, and the faceslapping was may more brutal (seriously, not the faint of heart) and leaves you thrilled and scared of what'll happen next. My only complaint would be that the author praises the ML's appearance too much 🤣 perhaps they were trying to cater to the female audience and laid it on too thick. Also because author bullies our daughter (FL) a bit too much at some point🥲💔 but still with a satisfying happy ending

The novel was well written. All the twist and turn were very interesting. It will make you laugh, and feel pity for fl, the cute interaction, how ML and FL got along. Really loved how everything is potaryed.

The FL is very rational throughout the novel. She now what she wants in her future and she is working hard for it. She has the character to please other to keep her image maintain, at very young age she has to shouldered the responsibility of her future bcz she knows despite having... more>> such a big family no one is really thinking about her or care about her, she is alone in the huge family.

Even her biological mother don't care about her and was planning for her other daughter wholeheartedly, even wanted to take fl's dowry. That part of story shows how alone and helpless she is, in the huge family. Nor her adopted mother care about her, she is dispensable.

Only ML came forward to help her. He fall for her very early but took time for him to express his feelings for her. And on one scene when her sister came back with her husband to meet family. The whole family didn't realise that FL was not there they doesn't pay any attention to her whereabouts only ML saw at a glance that FL was missing.

At last FL became crown Princess and finally empress but unfortunately she never punish or took revenge on her cheap sister or the family members. And even help her sister against her husband family which is very irritating.

hersister tried every mean to step on her and totally a selfish person to core, in this life she destroy her engagement is the least bad thing, but in the last life she seduce her brother in law despite FL being pregnant, so to say she is a b*t*h is the least.i hope her sister to get so punishment.

The extre chp of how ML in first life dream about his second Life in which he married with FL and has a happy family. And how he got rebirth in third life.

The ML of this novel is a sweetheart. He is handsome, macho, possessive, mature, responsible, like everything is good about him. Compare to how good he is I feel FL character is little rigid bcz she follows rule life crazy and nothing can be wrong even eating, walking, talking. But when both came together it was a perfect match.

At the beginning his care about her or how he slowly started to get jealous when she try find match for herself. How he help her when she was completely at the edge and alone. <<less

The FL is great. She’s smart and savvy, she knows her limits and works within them. She can be mercenary in how she deals with people but she has a reason. She literally grew up without a single guardian willing to defend her. Her biological parents would always choose her younger twin over her (her bio mom in particular always mentioning how she owes her younger sister for “stealing nutrients” since the sister was sickly), her adopted mom didn’t really like her since she was a reminder of her lack... more>> of fertility and did not want to get close in case she preferred her bio mom (as the grandmother gave her to the stepmom who did not have kids) and her on paper father did not care period. Her grandmother had some concern but as she had no parents willing to stand up for her was at the bottom of the pecking order of priorities.

The ML was literally the first and only person to ever put her first. This man who was the crown prince, who could marry girls more beautiful, whose families were more powerful who had the option of literally anyone else chose her to be his princess. This was made even more of a big deal by the fact that her family brings nothing to the table and that their low standing could even cause problems for his position (and it would have if the FL was not such an avid perfectionist). She could not even fathom why he chose her but he did. She kept waiting for the other shoe to drop but he patiently waited for her, which I really liked. I enjoy dominance in MLs but there is a fine line between dominant and overbearing or uncaring that most authors cross too easily. Here the ML makes it clear that while he does enjoy having power over her (their bedroom discussions are something else) he will never cross her clearly established boundaries (he’ll tease and prod but truly go against her wishes).

I really hated her sister at first but pity is all that was left at the end of the novel. She never got over her childhood insecurity and just kept blaming her sister for “taking her opportunities” instead of reflecting on her mistakes. She keeps acting like the FL is personally out to get her and ruin her happiness but the FL literally could not care less about her. Also the Ex-fiancée is scum, absolute scum. He’s a hypocrite, a misogynist and a spoiled brat with no redeeming qualities. <<less

This was such a refreshing a sweet novel what I loved the most was how cool the FL was she wasn't just strong around others and became a damsel who needed the ML to save her constantly

I also really loved her character and how she saw marriage as a contract and she was on a hunt for an ideal husband it was hilarious how she almost got herself married several times I also liked how her opinion didn't just magically and she didn't fall in love overnight she gradually opened... more>> her heart

I really liked how respectful the ML was there was no forcing himself upon her "stealing kisses" inappropriate touches your usual overbearing s*um ML sh*t even when he was jealous and cute and blocking her lovers

Now the marriage was sudden and everything about the main leads was about perfection almost like the main leads had ocd but overall I really enjoyed this book <<less

Its good. The biggest issue for me are the ages. The fMC is 14. I keep having to tell myself that it was acceptable in The olden days, but it still creeps me out. She does act like an14 yr old thankfully, but her sister does and its even more alarming when you think that someone with the mental capacity of a peanut is getting married to 21 yr old man...

But like I said, the story is sound. Its a different take on the hidden prince meets Cinderella story.

Note: If you're worried about the 'uncle and niece' relationship, he doesn't know her as a young child, and their first real interaction is when she's 14 (lived to 16 in past life) and he's 19, which isn't what I'd prefer by any means but not that bad if you have tolerance for ancient times light novel BS where FLs especially are young, and act like grown adults. The only thing I found really skeevy is not between our ML and FL and is in the extras - maybe avoid... more>> extra 2, details in spoiler tag.
Spoiler

The ML in the original world who is the Emperor but ends up alone has dreams of his life in universe of this novel, where he is happily married with children, and then gets transmigrated into his 19 year old self in a third timeline at the point the novel starts. He seemed to be in his late 20s before, and intends to marry his 'fated soulmate' who is 14 at that point, which is a yikes from me.

[collapse]

As for the actual story, it's pretty good. FL is maybe too good at everything (somewhat excused by her family situation and upbringing or lack thereof forcing her 'perfection') but I like that she's described as rational and calculating and actually is, rather than the author just telling us she's smart, and she has an arc over the course of the novel. Her ego/careful calculation of benefits and looking out for herself is her charm point as an FL, and the times where she gets to tear someone down all while retaining the moral high ground are some of the highlights of the novel. The build up between the ML and FL is slow and believable, and honestly the best part of the story.

Once the novel moves on to the palace drama part it loses a bit of its charm along with its reduced focus on the main characters, and is pretty predictable if you've read a few novels of this genre. That said, it's still well-written, and characters throughout have believable motivations and actions. Supposed schemers don't just suddenly hold the idiot ball when it's their turn to get face-slapped; people's faults are forecasted, and they act consistently. The exception is
Spoiler

the Emperor suddenly going off the deep end in the last few chapters - I guess you could say it's foreshadowed, and similar cons do exist IRL, but tbh it kinda reads as the author needing the ML/FL to be Emperor and Empress by the end of the story and rushing it to finish the novel.

[collapse]

In all, a good if not exceptional read where the real attraction is the FL and her development over the story, and the early build up of the relationship between FL and ML. I'd give the first part of the story a 4.5 and the latter a 3.5-4, so it gets an overall score of 4. <<less

I really enjoyed this, the FL is kinda wacky. Her pursuit of a good husband in the beginning was hair raising for me because she is skillful about it and you know if she isn't interrupted she would bag her target. I was nervous for the ML at times because she might get herself a marriage arrangement if he took his eyes off her. It's classic from this author, the original ML and FL relationship with reincarnated memories collapses as the oriFL interferes with FLs fate and the usual delusion... more>> (her fate should be mine) is destroyed in a satisfying face-slapping manner. The FL family is sort of a neutral party as they don't really act out but they only treat FL perfunctorily until ML puts his foot in. I don't know what to make of it. All in all satisfying story (if I ignore the rushed throne fight at the end) with a nice previous life extra that hints at more HEs for the previous life ML & FL. Excellent translation. <<less
