Not long after Ning Wan was ‘banished’ to a rural neighbourhood by Zhengyuan Law Firm headquarters, a second victim was exiled to join her.

Vivacious, tall, handsome, a complete gentleman, he exuded the unique aura…

…of a character likely to die off-screen in a historical drama. Were he to become a community lawyer, he would surely end up berated by middle-aged aunties until he cried a river and came to doubt life. He was a big, silly softie, a newbie easy to pick on!

Ning Wan decided that she would beat this poor neglected novice into shape—

“Fu Zheng, isn’t it? Newcomers here must be obedient and discerning.”

“When I dig a pit, you’ll fill it in. When I eat meat, you’ll drink the broth. When I head east, you can’t head west. In short, consider me your God in this remote wilderness beyond the reach of the government.”

Although a little silly, the newbie was handsome, obedient, and tactful. She developed a soft spot for him and decided to impart the ultimate skills she had cultivated for a lifetime: how to shift the blame; how to loaf on the job; how to pay lip service to the boss.

She was very sincere, holding nothing back—

“Truthfully, my unique skills are not without cost. I advise you to like me as soon as possible. Let me analyze the advantages and disadvantages of liking me…”

That big, silly softie, Fu Zheng, succumbed to her coercion and temptation. From that day on, he devoted himself to Ning Wan.

Half a year later, Ning Wan attended the annual meeting at headquarters. There, she was introduced to the new senior partner…

A vivacious, tall, handsome gentleman.

“Hello everyone, I’m Fu Zheng,” he grinned. “I joined this firm to get rid of the bad atmosphere, such as: shifting the blame, loafing on the job, and paying lip service to the boss…”

‘Fu Zheng, you—! Goddammit! This is fraud!’

This is a really funny novel. You will burst out laughing.

FL - Very smart, strong and optimistic. She is not Mary sue which I liked very much. She will be exiled to work at a community for two years as she dint accept a s*xual advance from her senior lawyer. She will be really good at handling all community cases. She would have graduated from a second rate college due to various circumstances at home.

ML - Smart and rich. He will be working in america and come to china as... more>> a partner to a law firm. In order to get accustomed to china, his friend suggests working in the community. So he hides his identity and works there. When he meets the FL he disdains her for her work ethics and second rate college. Its really funny to see this rich guy get accustomed to the community life. As they work together, he gradually changes his perception about her and also himself. There is a huge character development for the ML.

Some things I am dis-satisfied with, hence I removed a star.

Spoiler

I was expecting to see a lot more of her life after she learns that he is a senior partner of the law firm and her boss. But this happens only towards end and only a few chapters shows what happens after. I wanted to see her full potential in solving high profile cases and get a strong development.

I was also hoping to see a lot more romance, but there isn't much. The novel is more about community related cases. Only 5% of it can account to romance or may be even lesser.

I also felt really bad about the second ML. His character was not necessary it dint add much to comedy (atleast for me) or to the story line, just a bit to make the ML jealous. It feels bad seeing the second ML suffer.

Overall its a good read. Go for it. <<less

Wow this was well worth the wait. I always compare all law novels to "You're Fired", which was written by the same author. Currently this novel is in 3rd place, with "You're Fired" in 1st place and "DFILWTB" in 2nd place. This novel was more slow burn, with both parties having some chemistry but being unaware of their feelings of liking towards each other. Beyond the romance, I must say that I loved the female lead's personality. The first chapter startled me, as I felt that the FL was rather... more>> spineless, but later on, I grew to love her unconventional ways of solving legal disputes in a way that considers everyone's needs while maintaining good relationships within the community. However, I do wish that the rich/poor misunderstanding did not go on for as long as it did, and we got to see more of the plot developing after she entered his team.

Lastly I must thank Crystal for her wonderful translation of this novel, it was so smooth to read and I loved the little notes to further explain some things that may have otherwise been lost in translation. What I suffered in slow burn, Crystal more than made up for with her sweet anecdotes of her married life. <<less

i don’t even usually review stuff, and I want to give this story a chance since everybody else is giving this a high rating. No problem with the translations btw, very good in that aspect, but I always get pissed after reading chapters just because FL is too nosy and assuming. I get that the ML is some rich brat, and this was supposed to be the character growth/humor arc, but FL is just always up in his business and forcing him to comply to her. Like, everything ML had... more>> to do/buy is because FL insists him to do/buy. And idk, she’s supposedly smart but her conclusions about ML are always off and even though it’s out of her compassionate heart, she just ends up making me uncomfortable because of how forceful she is, and it just makes her look s*upid in my mind. Like she’s the epitome of “it’s the thoughts that matter” but she’s also annoying in a lot of instances, including bragging and looking down on ML’s fake identity. She has her reasons but I just find her (and tbh sometimes ML) so insufferable in almost all chapters and it’s just going and going and going (i’m still at chapter 35). I just hope SHE can also have some character development ‘cause if not, ML, you’re so strong to like that kind of person. <<less

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

ML was really annoying in the first few chapters but after that I started finding him cute! Like a silly dog!

BUT HE'S NOT A SILLY DOG AT ALL! HE'S A GREEN TEA MAN!

FL is really good. I like her a lot.

The plot of the novel is really good. There is many things that makes me laugh a lot, although there was no sweet and fluffy or heartwarming relationship in novel. So if you search for that, this novel isnt the answer.

I hope you guys dont really come to read because of the romance, because the romance thing iin here is subtle and if you come for romance, I think you will a lil bit dissapointed. But you know, I really have fun in reading this novel. So yeah you have... more>> to read this. <<less

It is so good that this is the first time I felt the need to write a review. The story is really too funny and too good! I MTL everything already.

There are misunderstandings but it's not due to lack of communication or anything too dramatic. It's more like it's essential for the plot to move.

I kinda suspect that the author is lawyer cause the case analysis are so good.

I would love another ending but meh I'm good where they at 😃

A workplace story that focuses more on work than romance. Some of the cases that FL deals with are quite poignant. In particular, the domestic ab*se case that came up about 40-ish chapters in really stuck with me. It may be a little triggering, so do take caution when reading.

ML is not my favorite. His lying is built into the premise of the story, but it's only entertaining until it isn't. At a certain point, he's really just taking advantage of FL by means of her kindheartedness. 2nd ML doesn't... more>> do much either other than serve as a foil/punching bag for ML.

The romance is a cute, slow burn that doesn't really start kicking in in earnest until the last 15 or so chapters. FL and ML progress so naturally into love that when it happens, nothing feels rushed or out of the blue. Instead, there exists an equal give and take between FL and ML. I personally enjoy a bit more drama in my romance stories, but this is great for anyone who enjoys slice of life. <<less

This novel is extremely hilarious. The female lead has a really unique personality and her way of handling problems is really interesting. Considering how much the male lead is going through in part due to the female lead I am really anticipating what she will do once she learns his real identity. I highly recommend reading this novel.

This is really a very interesting and funny story. There are many funny scenes between MC and ML. They fell in with each other slowly. Concept is somewhat new as it's related to lawyers.

This novel give me a mix feeling.

On one side, it's really a good romance comedy. Like the romance was cute and fluffy, and the comedy was made laugh (that my sister got angry because I was read it at midnight)

But, I think that it dragging the secret too much and it became a little boring. And I guess since the author want to keep the story light, she didn't focus of what I think need to be told in details

Spoiler

for example, like how the FL brought her mother away from her ab*sed father. I was so disappointed that it only barely mentioned. Or what illness the ML's mother had.

[collapse]

Like, I know its a story about lawyers, but its so weird that the life of the leads not being told in details and the secret was dragging tooo long (I knew I mention it twice) but, at the end it became so boring like a slice of life of extra chapter when the main issue was not solved yet! <<less

Omg! This book is such a gem!!! MC is just too funny. Sometimes, due to having different wavelengths, MC misunderstands ML which leads to hilarious moments eg ... more>>
Spoiler

ML sprained his ankle and twisted his waist moving furniture but he wanted to act cool and not tell MC. MC mistakenly thought he was suffering from hemorrhoids as ML was walking funny as if something was stuck in his butt. She interpreted his attitude as being too shy and embarrassed to tell her so she went out and bought for him a float to sit on and told him "Here, you understand". ML was happy thinking she was so concern about him and bought him a unique cushion 🤣. He was so flabbergasted when he found out through his friend that the "cushion" was actually for hemorrhoids

Another instance was when MC's mom called Spa 死吧 (si ba means to go die) and complaining that it was such an inauspicious name

[collapse]

The book also touches on some cases they enounter as lawyers. Though the cases are not very detailed and you can already guess the outcome in most cases but this added the human touch to the novel especially the case of spousal ab*se, it brought tears to my eyes.

I've noticed that this author likes to write about the interactions between MC and ML and their journey to couplehood rather than their romance. Romance doesn't start till the last 1/5 of the book which makes me feel a little unfulfilled but overall, still a solid 4.5/5. <<less

The first half of the story is absolutely amazing and funny and fun but the last the half, for me personally was a complete let down. I was sure, in the beginning, this novel will be one of my favourites (like - YOU’RE MY GLORY; HE’S MINE, NO OBJECTIONS ALLOWED, etc.) but the ending ruined it for me. The way the misunderstanding was handled and dragged was honestly painful. When the misunderstanding was almost resolved we were given another one on top of the first one and that was frustrating... more>> as hell. But the way the FL’s character development was changed or destroyed was absolutely infuriating - she was great in the beginning but by the end, she was turned into a clown and ML - I just didn’t and couldn’t like him.

Long story short, the way the resolution between the leads and the ending was handled, it hurt me more than infuriating me because I genuinely liked the story and the premise and the FL but it was tuned into a sh*t show by the end of it. All of my emotional investment was paid back to me in the form of a bad joke. It was, for me personally, as if the author took dirt and smeared it all over her perfectly good work.

PS: the only good to come out it were the translations and the translators personal anecdotes about herself and her husband - which were genuinely fun and cute to read. <<less

3.5 stars. FL is cute, truly caring and diligent. ML had great character growth. But all the misunderstandings and lies just got more and more absurd and cringey, so that trope got old and exhausting fast. I know many thought this was the most hilarious story and if you love cringe comedies, like The Office, watching a train wreck of embarrassment occur over and over, then this is your cup of tea.

FL also has great points to make and the cases were interesting and moving, but her tendency to constantly... more>> lecture ML on and on and ON, when she’s totally wrong and clueless, and criticize him and try to force him down the “right” path, even when she means well, just makes her ultimately obnoxious and judgey. It’s fine to gently offer counsel, but to try to browbeat someone with your judgment is just not cool. FL is just completely not self-aware and ends up torturing the poor ML nonstop -again it’s all due to misunderstandings created by ML’s lies, but regardless, why ML would want to be anywhere near someone who always looks down on everything he did, refuses to take any of his wishes into account, and criticizes him nonstop like he is a s*upid child incapable of making good decision for himself, when he is as smart and strong and proud as his character is supposed to be, is just nonsense. Again, not cute at all. I hate domineering MLs who just bulldoze MCs like they know best, and that doesn’t change when it’s FL who does it. I couldn’t drop it so just ended up skimming through the cringe sermons brought on by ML’s cringe lies. Ending is cute and side characters were great so in the end, worth the read but won’t read this author again. The dynamics were too infuriating. Kudos to translator for doing a great job! <<less

This novel is great. I find it a great read and the FL is stubborn at times, but that sometimes leads to more misunderstandings. Its really funny. I'm at chapter 17 p2.

Spoiler

The ML lies to the FL about his living situation to gain her sympathy after a bad first impression, but that only causes him to gain a harder time due to his lies. I love how he suffers due to his lies, and the FL really does stand up for people in dangerous situations, which I like. I know her trying to help the ML due to the 's*xual harassment is for comedic effect as its s misunderstanding that becomes a bigger and bigger lie for the ML, but the way she tried to help is nice and admirable.

This novel started off with so much promise. A smart, capable female lead who knew what she was doing and wasn't afraid to put the arrogant male lead in his place. It was funny too. But then everything went downhill. The intelligent woman we were introduced to suddenly became completely clueless.

Spoiler

First, the male lead lies and says his family went bankrupt and he’s actually poor. She believes him instantly, no questions asked. For someone who is supposed to be sharp, this is just unbelievable.

Then she assumes the male lead was sent to the countryside because a senior partner tried to assault him and he refused. She had known that partner for two years and was fully aware of his good reputation, yet she still jumped to the worst possible conclusion with zero research or professional sense. What kind of lawyer does that? And it only got worse. She tried to "protect" the male lead through childish, ridiculous actions that made her look like a complete fool.

Next comes her toxic "friend" from high school. This girl has been sabotaging and talking down to her for years. The friend shows up just to brag, and the once-confident female lead suddenly becomes passive and spineless. Then the male lead shows up pretending to be her boyfriend. Of course, he impresses everyone, and the dinner just so happens to be a class reunion. Cue the typical drama. The classmates get jealous, the "mean girl" gets embarrassed, and everyone walks away thinking the female lead is now living the perfect life with a rich, handsome man. It’s the same tired trope all over again.

To make things worse, the female lead goes around telling people the male lead is gay or dating an older woman just to "protect" him. That is not only immature but also completely inappropriate. At this point, she has lost all credibility. She acts like she has no common sense and no maturity. And this person is supposed to be a lawyer?

[collapse]

If I were the male lead, I would have kicked her out of the firm a long time ago.

Sure, the male lead started off as a rich, arrogant snob, but his worst crime was telling one dumb lie. A lie that ended up hurting himself the most. Still s*upid, but nowhere near as bad as how the female lead’s character has collapsed. <<less
