Not long after Ning Wan was ‘banished’ to a rural neighbourhood by Zhengyuan Law Firm headquarters, a second victim was exiled to join her.

Vivacious, tall, handsome, a complete gentleman, he exuded the unique aura…

…of a character likely to die off-screen in a historical drama. Were he to become a community lawyer, he would surely end up berated by middle-aged aunties until he cried a river and came to doubt life. He was a big, silly softie, a newbie easy to pick on!

Ning Wan decided that she would beat this poor neglected novice into shape—

“Fu Zheng, isn’t it? Newcomers here must be obedient and discerning.”

“When I dig a pit, you’ll fill it in. When I eat meat, you’ll drink the broth. When I head east, you can’t head west. In short, consider me your God in this remote wilderness beyond the reach of the government.”

Although a little silly, the newbie was handsome, obedient, and tactful. She developed a soft spot for him and decided to impart the ultimate skills she had cultivated for a lifetime: how to shift the blame; how to loaf on the job; how to pay lip service to the boss.

She was very sincere, holding nothing back—

“Truthfully, my unique skills are not without cost. I advise you to like me as soon as possible. Let me analyze the advantages and disadvantages of liking me…”

That big, silly softie, Fu Zheng, succumbed to her coercion and temptation. From that day on, he devoted himself to Ning Wan.

Half a year later, Ning Wan attended the annual meeting at headquarters. There, she was introduced to the new senior partner…

A vivacious, tall, handsome gentleman.

“Hello everyone, I’m Fu Zheng,” he grinned. “I joined this firm to get rid of the bad atmosphere, such as: shifting the blame, loafing on the job, and paying lip service to the boss…”

‘Fu Zheng, you—! Goddammit! This is fraud!’

SUGAR. This novel contains a lot of sugar! You've been warned :p

I don't know how to describe my feelings reading this, I laughed. I smiled. I cried. Anyway I think this novel is a gem. I love everything about it. It's comedic and romantic. It's refreshing to read, and the translation is superb. This one is definitely a must must read!

Quite a nice read. Most of it is work related though, and romance part is negligible. But their growth through their working interactions towards mutual affection is the key part.

Lots of humor and laughs.

FL is commendable for her courage, kindness and smartness. ML is a snob at first but gradually humanized.

It was fun until the the ML started lying to the MC and emotionally manipulating her.

Spoiler

It starts in chapter 13 and isn't revealed to her until the second half of chapter 68. That's less than ten chapters before the end including the extras.

Ermmm please remind me to avoid this author's 'lawyer' series from now on. Blegh 🤢

I did tried reading this since people are going gaga over it and I thought it'd be fun read since I love, love law and court drama and some of my coworkers are law graduates. I found the cases so real and down-to-earth, though they weren't what I'd expect to appear in a law novel and MC's solution was often not what I figured a lawyer would do. I think that's because the author doesn't know... more>> much or bother to research about what lawyers do, so the cases that appeared were more like something a family consultant or small neighborhood police station would cover.

At first glance you'd think that this MC was an unconventional lawyer with unconventional solution, but how MC worked... *cringe* actually it wasn't how a lawyer work. Do correct me if I'm wrong, but lawyers are bound within the strict code of rules, and they're sworn into it. They must have a good understanding about definitions, how to get the real facts and how to work around it to their advantage. Half-baked law graduates with minimal knowledge about the law in their country wouldn't even bother to register for the bar exam.

I almost drop this novel early into the game because the author obviously doesn't care much about a believable lawyer for a believable lawyer's sake, this one's like an insult to the profession. From this novel alone I wouldn't want to read any of their... 'lawyer' novel series. I feel that the translator cared more about researching a lawyer than author did lol

MC's personality... Left a lot to be desired. But it's actually quite realistic, you'd find many 'hard-working and experienced' graduates from subpar uni who interacted with their junior co-workers from better uni would act exactly like MC did, all high and mighty with their noses turned up, ready to give 'motivational' sermon at working hours unasked who thought that they were giving up precious ancestral secrets. I don't even want to know how she could possibly be considered an SSR-level lawyer before she moved to the current unit. I'm honestly worried about the quality of chinese lawyers and the quality of their law school after reading this novel.

Don't be fooled by the cutesy plot description, what actually happened was a muddle-headed 'lawyer' who doesn't know much about law pretending to be a good senior, with all her hostile bias and ungrounded bigotry towards someone she doesn't know much. Besides, what kind of lawyer would judge someone's personality at first glance and based on a phone call? Did the author thought that they were writing a psychologist or neighborhood police novel? 🤣 even a fanfic has more research than this novel. <<less
