Despite having found Mingxi, the Zhao family continued to favor the fake daughter, saying that Mingxi was not as kind nor as graceful as Zhao Yuan.

Mingxi didn’t mind. She continued to work hard to please her family although they would always say that she was trying to rob their attention away from Zhao Yuan.

Until she died because of a terminal illness.

It was then that she realized that Zhao Yuan was the actual lady blessed by luck while she was merely this novel’s evil supporting character with a tragic ending.

Zhao Mingxi who was given a second chance at life was bitterly disappointed. She no longer cared about her family. Screw her family and her fiancé. She immediately packed her bags and left home, off to complete the task given by the system named ‘Becoming Friends With Popular and Valuable Characters’.

After she left, the house suddenly became cold and quiet.

By right they should feel at ease, but–

Her parents, her indifferent elder brother, her brash younger brother, Shen Liyao who was used to her pursuits were all successively feeling… unused to it?

I've read this novel twice. It's cheesy 🧀 funny 😁 and lovely 😍

The MC isn't flat mary sue. She's smart from the start but ogFL dims her light.

I really liked that she was quite quick at understanding her own feelings.

ML is a cute tsundere and grows up into silly and sexy man.

The novel has some sad moments where I cried but overall I think this is a light read 📚 I highly recommend ‼️‼️

I sort of struggled to get through the first few chapters. The story is fine, but the MC is so shameless (understandably, she was already a straightforward person and now it's a matter of life or death) that I end up being ashamed for her. I feel like the grandma who's telling her granddaughter to have some self respect. Still, I thought everyone else's reactions to MC's treatment of the ML was funny so I kept reading. The way some drama played out was also unrealistic, but it was still... more>> excusable.

MC is a Mary Sue and it got annoying seeing all the mention of how pretty she is, but I actually really related to MC really wanting to get rid of her scar after she didn't take care of it properly in her last life. (Unnecessary details in spoiler)
Spoiler

I have an ugly scar on my belly from my appendectomy that I'm really self conscious about. Originally it was just meant to be a small hole and the doc said it wouldn't leave a mark, but the surgeon ended up having to do an infraumbilical midline incision (?) that left a really ugly scar. I'm not really self conscious about my looks, but sometimes when I'm feeling vulnerable I look at the scar and think I'll never look good no matter what I do because I have an ugly belly scar. So I really related to MC wanting to get rid of the scar so she can be beautiful.

[collapse]

ML is pretty cute, he's a harmless bad boy woth the heart of a shoujo heroine. He can't even fight despite being the "big bully overlord", people are just scared of his family's legal team. I've been itching to see a puppy ML recently and this one really scratched that itch. He's also a really good kid, like when
Spoiler

MC was finally confronting her family and ML's friend tries to discourage her from cutting ties with them, but ML says

"Stop right there, " Fu Yangxi said. "Don't try to give such ambiguous advice. As the saying goes, only those who drank the water would know its temperature. If a stranger tries to bu*t in, they will only appear even more annoying. Zhao Mingxi, don't listen to what other people have to say, including me. Make your own choice. So long as you have thought it through, any decision is a good decision."

then he even asks her if she needs help from his lawyer.

[collapse]

I feel like as an ML his way of supporting and helping MC is more substantial than the usual "ML doting". I also feel like the way MC develops feelings for him is more emotional and romantic than the usual. I actually really like him as an ML.

I actually really liked that MC completely cut ties with the family and didn't even listen to them. I've also got a problematic family life so this scenario, MC being able to completely let go and move on and her family realizing how shitty they were to her, was satisfying to read.

Also, I feel like I should say this: I honestly think OFL's actions were pretty understandable. She was spoiled her entire life and now suddenly her life is falling apart and she's desperate to keep it together no matter what. Also, the writing makes it seem that she genuinely is just really unlucky and keeps getting caught up in other people's plans on her behalf (which, incidentally or on purpose, is exactly what usually happens to villainess MCs, including the MC of this one!). She's not a "good girl", but in this day and age there's so many "bad girl villainess" MCs that are just like her. It's all about perspective. <<less

I love their dynamic and I appreciate how decisive the MC is. At first I thought her decision to sever all ties with her family is too much, but I eventually realized that if I was in her shoes, I probably would do the same. I just feel bad for Zhao Yuning tho. Judging from the extras, it seems that they didn't have that bad of a relationship. Maybe that would be the only thing I want changed. Sever all ties with the rest but at least introduce Zhao Yuning as an uncle to the child.

This is the kind of story for people who want to see the MC abandon her tr*sh family -

Spoiler

And to never reconcile with them even after they felt guilty and remorseful for how they treated her.

[collapse]

That being said, the MC was pretty extreme in her decision. She was ignored in her previous life but did not spend a lot of time with the family (found at 15, died and reincarnated at 23) as she spent most of her later years at University. Upon reincarnation, she chooses to break things off with her family and go on her way as she's almost 18 anyway.

She also gains a system that helps her develop her "luck". I say "luck" because it really plays out more like a romance system that is trying to hook her up with a high-luck person (or specifically the ML). The ML is her best choice to gain luck to undo her fate and he falls first. Like the MC, he also has a messed up family (although his is less tr*sh and more a mentally damaged mother and a old/traditional grandfather) but he's incredibly wealthy.

The reason why I can't rate this a 5 is that I disagree with the MC's handling of her family. Cutting off ties initially does make sense but then it just felt a little brutal. Spoiler ahead for why.

Spoiler

While every family member felt varying degrees of remorse, her treatment of her little brother was a little rough. He's the first to learn that she's completely severing ties but he's also the first to try and change. In fact, he goes out of his way to point out to their mother that she's been biased against the MC (to which he gets slapped and also moves out).

The eldest brother does try to change, especially once the MC points out that the adopted sister wants to bang him, but he also comes to terms with the fact that she's never coming back. He does try to go through the motions for his mother but he never forces her to return. He also tries to explain later to his other family members but that completely fails.

Those two were worth some sort of redemption arc but I guess the author just wanted to throw out the whole family. The rest of the family really is pretty negligent and abrasive.

It would have been nice to see some kind of reconciliation between her and her youngest brother as he truly did try to make things up to her. Even going so far as to try and learn how to cook the things she liked and to tell her about the kitten he adopted. His regret was also super fast... like... less than a week which held a lot of potential. It just never went anywhere.

The family's handling of the adopted sibling was also pretty ruthless. They did raise this girl for a decade and a half but they abandoned her after they learned that her mother was the nanny who was always spoiling her (which was a neat twist). This happens before they learn that she warned the Nanny to flee. I get not being able to take care of the child that was swapped in maliciously but they had already raised her to have no skills beyond fluttering her eyelashes and crying.

[collapse]

Other than that, it was alright. The development of the ML was nice even if his backstory quickly becomes depressing af. He was probably the highlight of this story for me. <<less

This novel is really one of those where FL didn't give a f@ck about the damn family.

ML is such a greeeen forest that I wanna low-key trying to bribe truck-kun to iskai me there. 😉 Our ML >

Spoiler

ML didn't have it easy in life. ML was forced to dye hair red in color so his mother will just act crazy a little less. ML's father and brother died while ML managed to come back but his mom told him, "why didn't you die?" Anyway, ML is cinnamon roll that is sweet and full of vinegar 😋

[collapse]

FL is strong, sweet and a little bit pitiful character here.

Her family, well, I was happy after reading their retribution. Call me crazy, but MY FAMILY is not something where I have to SHOW THEM my worth. Outside world will demand my talents, my looks (in case modeling/acting careers) or my IQ; but my family.. My mom, dad should be my charging place to charge my confidence to thrive in the world. If I have to show my parents the meaning of not having me, then that's not family, that's a job where my employer will see whether or not my resignation damaged the company.

FL did the right thing. If she endured, her family wouldn't have seen the right/wrong thing here just like they didn't see in the past life. 😒 Read this my boi, you'll not regret it. If you enjoyed reading this, introduce me with a real life Fu Yanxi as a thank you gift as well. See yaa.

Ah ah ah ah this is so cuteeeeeeeeeee!!! It really got me up in my feels!!! I have no idea how to put my excitement into words. If this was a drama I would be squealing at the scenes every turn. I actually want a drama and I demand one! Requesting directors to pick this one up! The only thing I am afraid of is the drama not being done well enough to do this justice. I admit my review is a little biased, beware.

'he was soft inside as if... more>> he has eaten a marinated egg' sums up pretty much everything about ML. He was such a tsundere cutie. Prickly outside softy inside. I really want to see his red hair look. And then the domineering FL with a player like personality charming the ML at every turn. She is such boyfriend material, I would fall straight into her trap if I wasn't straight. Their scenes together are so worth dying for. In fact I do die of cuteness overload every time. I know I have no hope of such a cute relationship so all I can do is fangirl. I like how they just quietly love, sacrifice for, protect and take care of each other, oh my my heart.

I like how it was not about revenge but all about their relationship, with the storyline being the side character to the relationship. It was all chill and fun and then it took a sharp cold turn when ML's family was introduced which was glossed over pretty quickly, this plot point could have been given a better ending.

I have not much to say about this because you when something is too good, there is no way to describe it other than 'it was GOOD'. ML is so my type, so sweet inside and out. I want someone who has such a soft side, is it too much to ask? Can you hear me squealing from 8000 miles away?

Overall, it was really well done, with a balanced humour, seriousness and cuteness. I also liked how the family never got Mingxi back, people need to know consequences can be pretty heavy sometimes. I really felt like I missed out on sweet school life romance, cause thinking about my school life it was so bland. All I did was study, eat, be depressed and sleep. Congratulation to Mingxi and Yangxi for becoming my OTP Xixi couple! I never name any couple my OTP by the way. This is a first. <<less

I like this story a lot one of my favourites. I think what makes it exceptional is the ML, he's pretty unique when it comes to CN novels. I'm quite bored by all these cold, domineering MLs.

The FL is a bit of a Mary Sue, but quite likeable otherwise, and has a distinct personality.

Of course the story isn't perfect. I would have liked for the family of ML to be explored more, but it's not that big of a deal.

(No official rating because I read less than half.)

Hm. This is not for me. The writing and concepts are quite simplistic and unoriginal - FL is shunned, disdained and mistreated by everyone despite doing so much for them, then when she moves on they all realise she was good, the new people she in her life realise she's good, it turns out she's actually beautiful (after all appearance = virtue/worthiness in a CNovel), intelligent and talented and the boss/grass of the school dotes on her while those who... more>> wronged her regret.

There needs to be something a bit more to a story like this for it to not feel tired and predictible, but so far it hasn't got an inkling of it. I don't mean it is terrible, it is merely lukewarm and simplistic.

The worst part for me, however, is how uncomfortable I feel reading about the ML and their... relationship. He's a little boss who's apparently never been like by a girl for himself, and endless paragraphs of him getting all silently smug because she seems to like him or angry at her for not pursuing him the way he thinks she should etc. is reeeeeeealllly cringey. His self-centredness is irritating and the fact that she is only trying to get close to him for his luck and isn't trying to make him fall for her makes her actions really horrible and really sad for him. It's not something I'm enjoying at all.

As I said, this is NOT for me. Not the style of story and writing that I enjoy. There are a plethora of positive reviews for you to consider for perpectives from those who do enjoy this type of writing. It's just... yeah...I should've let this one go ten chapters earlier as the signs were already there. <<less

This was such a lovely read. However don't be like me and start reading it at 11pm on a Sunday night knowing you have work the next morning.

I could not put this book down. While it isn't some ground breaking story, it's written and translated so well. I laughed many times, and teared up quite a lot and got that choking feeling when your heart aches from whatever the hell is going on in the story.

This felt so youthful and all encompassing just like a young romance, where everything feels... more>> incredibly overwhelming. I love the ML so so so much. I loved the MC too but gosh I love the ML honestly the most.

There are a lot of unrealistic stuff that goes on but this is a work of fiction, with just enough drama, angst, romance and comedy to make things go beautifully.

There were some sad parts, which were the elements I found the most realistic. Lots of themes around choosing to move forward straightforwardly.

Definitely a recommended read. This felt a little healing too honestly after being immersed exclusively in BL for more than a year. <<less

This is such a good story and I was glad I read the novel first before I read the comments here.

Reading this, I can't help putting myself in FL shoes. And I do understand the thing she decided upon having the 2nd chance because yearning love and working hard at gaining it but the feeling is not reciprocated is not a good feeling. Having said that, I also can't help getting sad at what the Zhous is feeling when Mingxi cutoff the family ties. It is heartbreaking honestly. But it... more>> is what it is.

Okay, I admit that I'm normally not interested in BG romances, but this one was actually really, really good. One of the best.

It subverted all the tropes and misunderstandings I normally hate, and the ML was actually so goshdarn cute I wanted to pack him up in a bubble wrap and hide him in my pocket. The MC was smart, capable and hardworking. The best part was that she knew what she wanted. Even in her first life, although she didn't make the best of decisions, it was actually not... more>> bad enough that I'd hate her for her s*upidity. In her first life, if she didn't have terminal illness, she'd have done fine by herself even with the debuff from being a villainess.

The second life, although she had a system, I'm so glad that it had close to no inputs in her life. At most it was removing the debuffs amd negative luck, everything else was her own hardwork and talent. The MC here is actually a very mature and open minded person who knows right from wrong.

The side characters are not that well defined, but this is the MC's story, so it makes sense that we won't come to know about things that don't really contribute to the story.

The villains..... They get their just desserts. Special emphasis on "just". This is another thing that made this novel shine. The punishment the antagonists got was in proportion to what they did. Nobody had their life destroyed because of some mistake they made under the influence of youth and the hotbloodedness that comes with it. People who should be forgiven were forgiven, and those who should stay away and regret their decisions, did regret their decisions.

There is a certain depth to most of the characters in the story. Their actions are all in line with how actual humans behave. They are multifaceted and maybe you might not be able to hate somebody even if you want to because of how pitiful they seem, but the author kept a proper distibction between right and wrong, and that is why we were able to keep our eyes open and realise "yes, they are pitiful, but their actions are wrong, and they got the right ending".

Now onto the best part of the story. The ML. OMG he's so adorable I wish I could transmigrate into the story and give him big hugs. He's a tsun tsun dere dere baby. He's not unfairly powerful. What he gives the MC is emotional support and love. He doesn't solve all her problems for her (many a times he's powerless even if he wants to help her) but he gives her hugs, comforts her and gives her enough fighting strength and that's something I've almost never seen in a romance story. It's not that they don't have conflicts, it's just that even before confessing to each other, they know that no matter what they do, they can't bear to see the other person sad. It's such a sweet romance I'm really happy I read it. The extras scratch that itch left over from reading the story.

There are so many touching moments in this story. It wasn't a perfect story with a very engaging plot. The MC also might feel a bit Mary Sue at times, but the story shone in the emotional aspect. Not just romance, but the familial love and friendship was all there. There were times I felt so touched I wanted to cry, and that's not something that happens often or easily.

Even though I am somebody who likes reading BL, this story will forever hold a special place in my heart.

hnnnng I wish I could get somebody like the ML to love and pamper me <<less

I write this review because I don't understand the 4.6 ratings. The story is okay, translation is superb, but there's nothing extraordinary or amazing about the story.

It's great fluff, but I've seen better fluff. It has this little angst along the way, but none of them got the resolution it needed, it's barely satisfying. For example,

Spoiler

How the MC never reconcile with her family. I understand that because the plot was supposed to be in the book, and MC was the designated villain so her family somehow had this filtered view on her badly, then it wasn't entirely the family's fault. When she worked hard on her luck, the filter slowly fade, and her family realized what's wrong. The younger brother, Zhou Yuning, even said to have the best relationship with her (despite his attitude), yet she won't give him chance? Her mother, father and brothers wasn't half bad, or so I thought.

[collapse]

I've seen better plot where the supposed protagonist turned out to be the real villain, manipulating everyone behind their back, and this feels like it, but it wasn't revealed that way...? The description of the event, where she went out of control and spitting things out, wasn't satisfying. They didn't recount the past 2 years event clearly, and I feel like the so-called "manipulation" was only that much, yet it throws people off.

The revelation of this white lotus wasn't much. Even her ending wasn't much.

Other angst without good resolution is the ML's family.
Spoiler

How about his mom's treatment? Did she get past that? How about his grandpa? He's okay, but he wasn't a model grandfather as well. How about the child ab*se he suffered from "other family members" that never appeared, only mentioned? And what happened to Fu Zhiyi? There is nothing. It was said that Fu Zhiyi wasn't what MC's thinking, that being a replacement for ML's brother was him being forced, that he didn't enjoy, so what happened to this potential character development? Isn't he supposed to be more "loved" by ML's mother due to his resemblance, and competing for inheritance? So what happened to him after ML's mother got treated?

[collapse]

ML was previously a trouble maker due to his past trauma, and MC described him as a smart witty person without the willingness to do exams based on the books she saw in his bedroom, but what about it? Did he got better? Did he start study seriously to match MC's glowing academic achievement? Did he manage to take over the Fu Family's fortune?

Like I'm so frustrated with the ratings!!! I've seen better 4-stars novels out there, and this one, at most, can be a 4.0. I would even give 3.7 - 3.8 on how incomplete the plot was.

Fluff was okay if the theme is fluff, but certainly, this has a lot of foreboding plot that didn't get revealed. <<less

So cute!! I love it so much! Its a beautifully written fluffy novel with hints of angst. MC is decisive and swift with her actions, whether it be cuttubg her family off or pursuing ML. That's so good.

ML is so cute, ridiculously jealous and narcissistic but not in those clichéd novel domineering CEO kinda way, this ML is very childlike but also considerate and loving. I love him so much, his past is sad but im glad MC id there with him!

Really liked it at first. Main character acts absolutely bizarre in other people's views which is funny. Also props to her originally family not feeling as cartoonishly evil as in most stories like this but...

Honestly story feels meandering, frustrating, too many misunderstandings. Spends 70% of time covering petty squables with classmates and family. I've read so many true and false daughter/son written in CN Novel but this one really brings me a very good feeling because of how very kind, genuine, and independent MC was.

I really like that MC can easily decide on against gaining a golden finger luck to turn her life as heroine. This halo cam make her live a happy, smooth and content life. She can make a lot of people love her. The reason for this was because MC doesn't want other people to become her stepping stone. She... more>> is also not the kind of white lotus girl who acts pitiful and makes people around her willing to sacrifice everything for her.

What I also like is that all of the villains are not written s*upidly or unreasonably, the writer took the time to make villains to get their karma, realise their wrongs, and change because of the regrets they have of what they had done.

But regardless of that the only negative side of MC that I dislike is how MC didn't give her family a chance when they are so regretful and desperate to get her back. MC obviously aware of the plot in the book and how the heroine halo can cloud their judgement. So in that matter we can actually say that MC's family is also another victim of Zhou Yuan. <<less

4.5 cute story. I like this quite a bit.
Spoiler

When she decides to transfer the luck to him, I thought that was such a good move. Considering with MC halo, others will become her stepping stone and instead of walking beside her, they will walk behind her.

[collapse]

ML is such a softie meowmeow. He all tough outside, but inside he's just a lonely little boy that desperately crave loves.
Spoiler

When he found out his love is one-sided at first, and all the romantic things he thought she did for him were all just delusion from his side, he still think rationally. I'm surprised because this very rarely happened in cnovels I read. Also with how tragic his life was, he still managed to become a decent teenager

[collapse]

I also love character development of Zhao family. At how first they were in denial, refused to accept their mistake to at the end they realize and admitted their mistake and let MC move on with her life. They were still around, they still want her back, but they no longer try to force her to comeback.

And Shao Liyao too! His part here touched me. Its good that he corrected his mistakes right away and did not dwell in bitterness and heartbreak.

Spoiler

He thought he was excellent, he thought he had the capital to look down on everything, and he thought everyone should look up at him.

But in that case, all he can get is worship.

If he meets the person he likes again, if he remains the same, then the other person's neck will be sore, and the other person will leave him sooner or later.

Perhaps only when he also learns how to like others and how to be nice to others, can he be qualified to be more deeply liked regardless of his family background, appearance, or grades.

[collapse]

I haven't read the extra yet. I hope maybe MC will someday forgives the Zhao family. Just because they truly regretted their actions, and I think everyone deserves a second-change. They were also at the mercy of ogMC halo

A very cute story. Fast paced, short enough.

I loved the FL - smart, fast with decisions, not cluelessly s*upid

And the ML? - I cant pinpoint what is the exact difference, but I felt that he was different from usual kind off MLs. Cute personality (tsun-tsun), hilarious monologues (esp. The part when he went blind) and quite shameless.

Her family - I liked how family members each got stabbed back.

Weeell, another switch at birth novel with all the relevant clichés.

The redeeming factor of this novel is the FL and ML, especially the ML is adorable and fairly rational. Should that factor not exist, with the morality throughout it, it would be detestable.

Now, both the FL and ML face family problems of relatively close nature, BUT the ML's are way more severe and of course extreme as he is literally ab*sed.

Since this is a novel intended for the female audience, of course all the drama is revolved around the FL's... more>> struggle with her family cause her survival depends on it. Some mentioned that she is cold blooded with the way she insta cut all ties with her family, which is true, but also very understandable as she basically died alone in her previous life with no one even noticing and if she stayed around the fake daughter in this life (which her family chose to keep around) with her debuff she would face the previous outcome.

We went through the FL's story for 4/5 of the novel's length at least, with her dealing with the mild indifference of her family, from a rational point of view if you exclude the impending death thing, and when it came to the ML's awful ab*se from his mother/grandfather it was resolved with a single sentence from the FL which was ''you don't want him but I do'' and boom all changed their minds and became good people in a second. Problem solved!
