I don't even know where to begin. This is one of my ALL TIME FAVOURITES. Absolutely HILARIOUS and it was reaallyyyy well-written, the story is so fun and exciting, the characters are just *chefs kiss* amazing, what else can I say, it's closest to the perfect novel I've read since starting danmei. Also the fact that it's first person POV gave it such a refreshing perspective as you go through the story with the MC.

Story:

Just sooo so damn funny. MC's inner monologue is peak "rolling-on-the-floor-laughing" slapstick comedy. I've lost count... more>> on how many times I've laughed out loud or giggled uncontrollably in public or while taking public transport humiliating myself coz I just couldn't stop myself from bursting laughing.

My favourite parts of the story is when you read Gu Yiliang's Memo's/Diaries hahahahahahahah, ABSOLUTE PEAK WRITING.

Characters:

What else can I say? They're all amazing. MC is so funny, self-aware and a bit oblivious at times but that's what makes him charming and loveable. ML is just as funny, smart and oblivious and his initial misunderstanding with

Romance:

Just peak, super cute and indulgent love story. The whole time, I felt like I was constantly being fed and never feeling full, I just couldn't stop eating it all up! It was the perfect combination of the story always being so refreshing, not a single chapter got me feeling bored AT ALL.

OVERALL:

This novel is such a perfect setting of everything good in comedy, romance, misunderstandings and resolution and I don't know how to praise it enough. I feel like no words can justify how good this novel is and how amazing of an experience it was reading it.

It took my patience so much to wait the translation, the MTL is messed up making me dizzy.

So, thank you very mich foe the translation, I love both of ou MC and ML, their inner monologue, their chaos, their innocent, and their love story.

Theu are so sweet and lovely, very light reading to make your days happy.

Oh my god, a new favorite has emerged. Screaming, crying, half throwing up.

This had to be one of the funniest and most ridiculous BLs I've ever read. Do NOT read this in public bc I was constantly laughing but trying to keep it in and ended up with a sore throat. This is your warning. This story is in the hands of a very unreliable first person narrator (which I usually hate) but it just worked. This is also thanks to intermissions from the ML's POV so we could see... more>> what he's thinking as well. It's also in that excerpt format which I also usually dislike for being too disjointed but worked fine here. I'm honestly not sure why the author used that format when most of the excerpts were mostly cohesive anyway.

Anyway our MC and ML are the cutest. Our MC is the most adorable ball of fluff, and he bends himself so naturally I'm actually laughing. The ML falls for him easily too which I don't blame him, that time when he stood up for him I think anyone should have fallen. Seems like the ML realizes later that he liked him all along? But once the two of them get together they're actually so clingy and sticky to each other. There's also much more references to sexy times than in other BLs recently so props to the author.

There are still things I would complain about, like all the misunderstandings that could have VERY easily been cleared up by using their words. This story is basically just a few big misunderstandings running through the whole story. At the end when they finally clarified the situation, I was a lil frustrated by how the author still kept trying to meme throughout the reveal, like this is a serious situation man. Glad that the ML eventually just threw out the diary or else I think misunderstandings about who thought who was the sugar baby would have just persisted. Also wish that there was more at the end. So much was built up using the fact that the MC deep dives into the CP fandom but it's never revealed more or talked about. Also wish we got more from ML's POV near the end bc we basically only got that one time he realized the misunderstanding and that was it. Just reread the synopsis and it's not very accurate, the ML isn't closeted when he literally never realized his feelings lol. Then he was basically the one broadcasting it everywhere.

Either way, this has been one of the most entertaining and cutest love stories I've read recently. Definitely a favorite. <<less

So fluffy, funny, and sweet. Worth the wait and the whole read. I've reread this series so many times and every time warmed my heart more than the last. I hope this series can get super known internationally and gets a physical release one day.

Cute and funny read. MC, Wei Yanzi, is super funny. I normally don't enjoy first person dialogue but his thoughts are really entertaining. However, some of the references to Chinese culture are lost on me so I know that I didn't get to enjoy 100% of his awesomeness.

ML, Gu Yiliang, is also likable. He is sweet and caring and a lil quirky with his habit of journaling. The chapters containing his diary was sprinkled throughout the story. It added an extra unique flavor to the novel.

The misunderstanding tag is due to ML thinking that MC had a sugar daddy. However, MC's backer was actually his biological father. This misunderstanding caused them to become closer since ML thought MC wanted ML to be his sugar daddy and ML decided to take on the "responsibility". 😂

This has to be one of my all time favourites. I keep coming back to both the manhua and the novel. I just love them so much. Sweet and funny, I feel better after reading it every time. I really recommend reading both the manhua and the novel. The art is so so pretty in the manhua and the translation for the novel is top tier. Read both! For laughs and pure sugar you can't go wrong here. Heal your heart ♡

The fluffiest story I've ever read! I laughed so hard throughout the whole story. The story is just pure love. So pure it purifies my heart from the usual angsty stuff I read.

Wei Yan Zi who ship his own cp until he fell for him and Gu Yi Liang who turned himself gay after three cigarettes. XD I like how caring and considerate GYL is and him giving out 'sweets' to readers all the time. I couldn't put this novel down after starting. Oh yes, the manhua is really well... more>> drawn too! But of course if you want smut there's some in the novel later on. WYZ has the cutest reactions ever especially when he secretly ship his cp with GYL on weibo so hard.

Some of the funny parts has some cultural references in it so if you don't know you may not feel that it's that funny. Of course that won't affect the read but it would be much enjoyable if you got them. Highly recommend this book for high amount of sweets! <<less

THIS IS SO FUNNY

I fall in love with the manhua adaptation, and I found out that this is adapted from novel. So Ia read it. And I couldn't stop laughing. Each chapters is so funny!. Somehow, I think the novel version is better

Love this. I hope I can find this kind of novel again

Really... its too hilarious! This is first time I read a story from a unique perspective. Yess! Its from shipper's eyes LOL. The author's humor which potrayed by the MC and his antiques is so witty. The ML is sweet. Anyway, this is perfect for light reading. Too many fluff and cottons.

For sheer genius of comedic timing, as well as comedic content whilst writing a relationship that is both charming and endearing. My stomach hurt from how hard I've laughed over this, and how many times I've done so. Seldom do I reread novels, this is one of those rare few.

People who are looking into whether they should read this, look no further, here's your sign. Just remember to suspend your disbelief of this happening irl and read along for the fun ride.

As fellow commenters noted, this is a helluva funny novel. I want to add a tribute to the comment section: full applause for the translator who did an amazing job. I read the final chapters via MTL. Without the superb translation, the humour found in final chapters was definitely muted and muddled for me because this reader couldn't fully grasp some of the idioms, modern cultural references and tongue-in-cheek asides. (*Sigh* Is it too late to learn Mandarin?) So, a round of applause for the translator, Alex PT, who... more>> managed to keep the flow and impart the flavour of the humour without diluting the story. Alex PT, you made reading this novel an addictive experience. <<less

I love this novel! It's pure comedic fluff! The misunderstanding is *chef's kiss*! It's hilarious and sweet. I laughed and squealed and fangirled and hit my couch so much that it could definitely sue me for ab*se. After reading this you'll definitely feel the urge to scream "Niangzi is rio!!" into the void. It's okay, just do it and you'll feel better. Eat the sugar and feel your lifespan expand.

This is a character driven story and the characters are exactly where this novel shines, along with the author's sense of... more>> humour.

The MC is absolutely precious. Wei Yanzi is funny, witty, sweet, smart and he's no pushover. His inner monologues had me laughing so much that my throat ached and my asthma acted up a little. He is definitely one of my favourite characters ever.

The ML is also very precious. Gu Yiliang was a refreshing character after all those cold beauty types of gongs in the other manhuas (the manhua on Bilibili is what made me finally read the novel, I usually don't read novels that aren't completely translated). He is so very sweet and gentle, so eager to please Yanzi. Seeing him get jealous was so nice, too, because he's usually pretty collected (at least in appearance; make no mistake, he's just as much of a disaster as Wei Yanzi! It's just not as obvious.) I also love the way he's not perfect at everything. And he keeps a diary! Which we get glimpses of! It's adorable, specially with the illustrations in the manhua.

The translation is on hiatus (which is too bad because it was really good), but the language is relatively simple so MTling is not too hard. We miss out on a lot on the funny jokes and references, but we get a good idea of what happens story-wise. Also, we'll get the official English translation of the end through the manhua eventually.

Edit: It seems that BlackBox put their TL on hiatus because we might get an official Enlish tl! If that's true then I am definitely looking forward to it!

By the way, this is not exactly shounen ai. There are definitely a few s*x scenes. They're not smutty or very explicit, but they're not hinting at it either, we know exactly what's going on. The extras are also mainly based on their first time going all the way. They're also hilarious, I don't think I ever laughed so much while reading a s*x scene! They were also pretty realistic, no one is perfect right from the get go after all.

There are just two small things that I think are a bummer :

After they're done with the reality show, we're told how the fans are staying silent after the MC and ML seemed too gay during the show. I think that was an interesting point to make because it's also a pretty realistic part of shipping. Shippers are happy to ship two guys together and like to scream about how their ship is real, but if the ship did get real a lot of them would change their tune. This scene broke my heart a little because even with the wonky translation, I could feel Yanzi's confusion, frustration and disappointment. My issue is that it's never touched upon again. We don't know what happened after that, how it affects them or their career or anything.

I'm a little disappointed that we are never shown Yanzi telling Yiliang about being an Niangzi shipper. I was kind of looking forward to Yiliang's reaction to that, which is why I was a little sad that it didn't happen. Oh well, I guess Yiliang showing Yanzi his diary kinda makes up for it.

When I saw ppl saying that this helped them when they were going through a hard time, I thought it was generic and shallow praise to justify their ratings, but let me tell you how wrong I was. This novel just hits the mark with it's humor. It's unbelievable to me how much I cackled. This might be one of my all-time go-to picks for when I just wanna reset and feel better after a long day. I did get a bit turned off by some of the choices made... more>> by the author in terms of story progression.

The misunderstanding of the MC being a sugarbaby/prostitute to further his career when in reality he just has a well-connected father-like figure for a boss. I wished that the author opted to developing their relationship more steadily rather creating an excuse to advance their relationship.

While that bothered me because I'm a nit-picky hoe, the hilarity of the story helped to excuse the faults almost enough (remember, it's probably not going to be that big of a deal to you, I'm just obsessive about certain, s*upid things that bother me like this) to make it negligable. For a short story read that isn't at all a waste of time or braincells (If you don't have any of those left like me, just remove the "brain" 'cause at least we still have our other cells... right?), you get a really funny and cute novel worth re-reading. <<less

The story/plot is full blast fluffly! Extremely sweet! Love both the MC and ML! They are very well suited for each other!

A short and sweet novel. No drama, no angst, just feel good

Be warned that you may have to MTL the extras and they are relatively difficult to understand (you get the main idea of the chapter but miss the smaller details)

The writing is comedic gold. Both the MC and ML are ridiculous in their own ways. MC is clearly heads over heels for ML, even though he denies it by saying he just likes shipping the two of them. ML quickly falls for MC due to a misunderstanding, but is incredibly sincere in his feelings and actions. MC and ML continuously put themselves in tons of funny situations due to misunderstandings and other antics.

The main issue with the story is how long it drags it out for. After a while,... more>> the jokes can get a bit stale and the drama becomes unnecessarily complex. Overall, a fun read. Would recommend at least starting, if not finishing. <<less

I read the rest in MTL to finish it so I'm kinda confused with the last bit of chapters. What I like with this story is the hilarious thoughts and misunderstanding between the MC and ML. It's like a duck talking to a chicken, they thought they're on the same page but from the very first start, they're actually not.
