disclaimer: its been well over half a year since I read, so take with a grain of salt.

extremely good at first, I was practically addicted. But slowly the shine started to wear off and the novel became more and more painful to read over time. It felt like the MC never had to go through any challenges, he was picking up too many unnecessary skills, his real personality was coming out way less often and characters I didn't necessarily care about (the ones from Hollywood mostly) started popping out of... more>> the woodworks in droves. Characters that I was actually interested in would be mentioned, built up, and then would literally never come into the picture again.
Spoiler

i remember spending I think over a hundred chapters reading nonstop, eager to get to the good bit where the exorcist girl (who showed signs of noticing the discrepancy between his real self and his concept) and the theatre troop kid (who was said to have the potential to at least fight back against woojin's monstorous acting) actually stole the show, but they ended up having extremely minor roles and basically played no part at all. Remove them from the story and everything stays the same.

[collapse]

every time I thought his concept would be challenged in any way, the situation resolved itself so quickly to the point where it wasnt even entertaining anymore. Plus the movies weren't even as interesting to read about as they used to be! Like half the reason I started reading was to learn about all the different movie settings/ worlds there were to explore and characters he could play, but the original stories and descriptions about his acting became less detailed and lowered in quality, pushed to the side for the sake of his brand deals or his yt channel or cooking variety tv show or his singing collabs with miley cyrus or his voice acting (iirc that bit was actually good ngl) I still loved the eerie sacrifice of a stranger and island of the lost but I feel like the latter wasn't as good as it could've been and the former was probably the last film in this book I enjoyed truly reading about. The action movie segment literally just had me reminiscing on the good old days of 'the exorcist', 'boyfriend' and 'drug dealer'. I feel like once a certain point was reached my satisfaction with the story was inversely proportional to the amount of fame he got. All the stuff about Hollywood especially just felt so bland to me, and yet that was what the story became increasingly focused on.

The straw that broke the camels back though: I noticed that the author uses real life films in his work, at minimum as inspiration, and it's really interesting to see (
Spoiler

like when they pit the movies in the book against actual real life box office records

) but when I realised that the MC was playing the joker, turning down Jurassic park movies and dating Miley Cyrus I physically could not keep reading. My suspension of disbelief, which weakened over time as I read, had been thoroughly shattered by the increasingly outlandish things that were happening. Its not that big a deal on its own, but combined with all my other growing issues with the book I had become disillusioned. Which is crazy because for the last few weeks prior I had been singing my praises of this web novel to anyone who would listen! My sister started wondering when I had finished reading because I stopped talking about it so abruptly.

(i did not like miley cara at all tbh, she was ok and likeable enough but I always felt like she didnt need to be there and everytime she came up id just think of miley cyrus lol, which made the whole thing seem more and more outlandish. The worst part is that I mtl'd most of the chapters and like 70% of the time they'd translate cara and cyrus, so I literally couldnt tell whether she was supposed to be the real miley cyrus or not. This is probably just a me problem and everyone else can see her as a completely separate character, and if so this bit of my review holds no weight and nobody should pay much attention to it haha. Its just a personal gripe I had. If its really miley cyrus then that's so incredibly dumb I can't believe it. Also hwalin for the win, she was robbed ╥﹏╥).

I have been talking only negatives in this review, but that's not to say this isn't an enjoyable read - my god is it an enjoyable read. Its just so fun! Especially in the first 200 chapters or so, but even later! Sometimes when im doing the dishes or on my way to school, I think about
Spoiler

the time he played howl's moving castle for the va's child or when he used sign language on stage to talk to a deaf child fan and it brings a genuine smile to my face. The exorcist movie screening where his real life friends' jaws' drop at his incredible talent, the inadvertently funny profiler hanryang after filming talk show, the time when he is cast as an extra and his acting has gotten so good that even without the system/script/cheats his smile looks so genuine that the cast is floored, the glimpses of his relationship with his parents and sister.

[collapse]
Its all just so good! I feel like these things get less focus the further in you read, but still.

Also, the misunderstandings are very, very funny (for 90% of the novel) as well:
Spoiler

he might have one conversation in English and suddenly you have people in the upper echelons of the entertainment sphere talking about the multiple foreign countries he must've grown up in or his extensive background at multiple acting academies abroad (spoiler alert = he was a korean graphic designer until 5 months ago who had never been outside the country!).

[collapse]
he'll say 'i dont want a bafta' and half the country will think he set his sights on the oscars instead because "a bafta is not good enough" to quench his ambition. Its amazing how the stuff he says just keeps snowballing into a misunderstanding of gargantuan proportions that makes him look cooler and cooler.

idk how to describe why I like it so much, just keep reading even if it the story doesn't capture you at first and you might just fall in love.

Despite all my gripes, I will never regret reading it. Even if I dropped it halfway, that wasn't because the story was truly bad but because I wasn't strong enough to handle it - it stopped being enjoyable for me. But hopefully not for you.

ps. Don't read past chapter 475. I went back to see what that other review was talking about and it was so painful I wanted to punch a hole through my laptop. Its not worth 500 chapters of misunderstandings just to watch
Spoiler

this poor guy finally have the confidence to be himself and get immediately ignored by the entire world. Just as the public were coming around to his true self, Miley just has to ruin it - what do you mean his genuine smile looks just like the joker's so he's acting??? Why did everyone agree???? So for his entire career, nobody will know to treat him like a real person??? He wins an oscar and this is the thanks he gets!!?? God its giving me a migraine just thinking about it. The fact that he continues bearing his heart out during the speech, unaware that public perception has already deemed everything he's saying fake makes it hurt all the more. Just more proof for me that the later chapters aren't nearly as good as the earlier ones.

First I would like to give appreciation for the translator in this work. It was easy to read and visualize the story. Gaps in the story were properly filled and left open. There wasn't a time where I questioned or was confused due to poor translations. I felt confident while reading there wasn't any context that I missed unless it was intended.

I would say this novel is above average, not the best just good enough to enjoy reading from time to time.

The Criticisms:

One thing that I think the story did... more>> okay in is the Multiple Viewpoints. In the story different viewpoints gave emphasis on an achievement the MC had. Which isn't a bad thing, it only becomes a problem when the viewpoint pans from person to person all saying basically the same things (which this story did quite a bit). Which is sometimes annoying.

I believe the best way to go about this is to show the viewpoint of a character that actually matters for future story progression (this story did do this at several points). Then show the thoughts of other characters as they meet the main character (again the story does do this at several points). Overall I think the story did 'Okay' in this aspect. Not bad but also not great.

Another minor criticism is the patriotism in the story. In general patriotism in stories isn't a bad aspect, and this is more of a personal critique. Patriotism in stories become somewhat awkward when it vilifies or mocks other nations. It doesn't happen often and only occurs maybe like 2 or 3 times within the story, so this really is a small criticism.

Spoiler

For example, stating that the level of acting in Japan is subpar or lacking. I'm not a huge fan of movies so I don't know anything about the level of acting in Japan. But as of right now this just seems cringe to say.

[collapse]

One major flaw of this novel is the lack of challenge, or at least the challenge felt by the reader. This story presents the MC's challenge as something that could be solved or ignored - Example in the Spoiler.

Spoiler

MC getting tired from the shooting of the Drama or movie, solved by resting in the blackspace. Any potential controversy surrounding the MC just gets solved within the next 2 chapters by the characters around the him.

[collapse]

The MC and reader never feels any sort of actual tension. So there really isn't a build-up for anything. In its most simplified form it's a cycle of acting well, getting good results, getting praised, repeat. With some variation, but none so significant to disturb the cycle.

Overall Notes:

The story does a good job in helping the reader visualize the story, it's easy to imagine what is happening and it doesn't feel off. There aren't any moments where a poor narrative would pull you off from your immersion.

The story feels complete in the sense that there aren't any felt gaps. In the sense that would throw you off wondering what is happening now in the story.

The novel serves well as a 'feel good novel', the MC basically just cruises through story relatively easily, so for readers looking for a relaxing type of story, this isn't a bad choice.

4 stars for this novel feels good to me.

Edit: As of 7/12/2024

I had read ahead with the MTL and I feel it is appropriate to change my rating to 3 Stars.

First, the novel continues the cycle of acting well and getting good results without any difficulties. There is a fine line for content before it becomes overdone and just downright boring to read over and over again. This Novel went over that line, by a long shot. I still stand by the statement that this isn't too bad of a 'Feel good novel', but there needs to be more substance: a rival/competitor, someone who knew about the MC's powers, something, anything at all would've made it better.

Second, I had initially assumed that an explanation to the MC's ability would come up as I was reading through the MTL. But I was wrong, nothing. No info. Perhaps I had glossed over it while going through the MTL, maybe misinterpreted some lines that actually explained it I don't know. However it is disappointing.

The story doesn't feel complete. There are plot holes that are gaping open and missed opportunities among introduced characters. I had yet to read the final chapter since I couldn't find MTL version of it anywhere. Even if everything is explained in that final chapter. It would mean that the ending would be rushed, thoughtless, and honestly a waste of potential.

Spoiler

Plot holes: Where did the MC get his ability from? What did the shaman mean when they said the MC is possessed? What is the identity of the MC's ability, who is voicing the system, why did he of all people get this ability?

Missed opportunities/Weird Openers: Besides the initial information that the MC was blackout drunk on the day he got his abilities, without expanding on how, or why, or where, or who, or what gave him the abilities.

The introduction of the shaman character and their daughter without, any real interaction with them. Seriously these characters were the closest we got to discerning anything about the MC's ability, yet they were discarded.

The introduction of the potential rival/competitor character. There was a new character that was introduced for the production of Beneficial Evil. The 2nd Choi Nana work. This character was apparently the exact opposite to MC and possessed great talent for acting. A chance for a rival/competitor/potential villain, nope. This character was thrown out and became an afterthought after the filming of 'Beneficial Evil'. In fact, I don't even remember this character being mentioned during the filming of 'Beneficial Evil'.

[collapse]

Truthfully for the story alone, I will give this novel 2 stars, but I will give it 3 stars solely for the translator's work. It was disappointing. <<less

:v How to say? It is simply a fun novel with interesting specific scenes. Are you upset because it's not serious and the MC is surrounded and recruited by many people? That doesn't mean much in reality either. And for me, this is an entertaining novel that makes me smile after tiring days. I just want to say thank you for bringing me smiles and many interesting situations that are hard to see in other novels.

Just for once, put aside your harsh prejudices and enjoy it. If not, leave it.

This... more>> is not a serious style novel, it is something very special. If it doesn't fit, please ignore it and just stop at the review.

-----------------------------------------------

I am extremely excited about Kang Wojin's meteoric growth. Although it feels regretful that this journey is about to end. But it is still fun, leaving a very positive excitement in my brain and emotions. Kang Wojin's journey as an actor should not be adapted into a comic or a movie. If you want to ruin it, do so, and they will fail completely. The excitement that surpasses human perception will not be reproduced. No matter how fictional and absurd this novel is, it is still my joy and light in my tired, exhausted, and energy-deprived days. I really want to say thank you to the author who created this series - who showed me the world of acting that I could not imagine in such a pure way. I really thank the author-nim and the translators who devoted themselves to this novel. ☺️❤️ «- Mar 13, 2025 - Status: c423 -» <<less

To anyone planning on reading this, don't come in expecting absolute peak fiction.

Alright, with that out of the way, here's the deal. MC is granted the greatest golden finger in history and, accordingly, senses an opportunity to make some mad money out of it. So, he uses it to become the greatest actor in the history of ever, by just experiencing stories through movie scripts, and then bringing it to life on the set.

This story is basically a face slapping novel in a way, where everything just keeps escalating in... more>> matter of what cheats MC gets and how he uses them as well as the scale of the movies he features in, with one note antagonists that are just cartoonishly evil and fellow actors and audience and staff members just singing praises out of him.

That's it. That's the entire story loop. Also, there are misunderstandings and that's kinda annoying, but whatevs I guess.

I wouldn't say that this novel truly deserves the high rating of 4 stars that I'm giving it, but I discovered this when I was bored and looking for some stuff that isn't JP light novel slop, and I'm fairly easy to please.

tldr; MC gets cheat, goes into movies, mad money, escalation. Read this when you're super bored <<less

The plot itself is very contrived, but there is just something about the story that makes it so addicting to read.

It's like a wish-fulfillment power fantasy except set in the Korean entertainment industry rather than the usual medieval parallel world. It delivers that same feeling of satisfaction, albeit in an entirely different manner that is quite refreshing.

Of course, what TRULY carries this story is the Translator, Dreamscribe. This is quite possibly one of the best high-quality translations I've read; a breath of fresh air nowadays where 90% of translations are... more>> just MTL by ChatGPT with no effort or proper editing...

This has an interesting start with lots of potential but sadly didn't stay that way in the recent chapters.

I like the idea that the main character gets to experience movie characters' lives. But it is a shame he can only experience the male characters because I think, being able to portray female or even non-human creatures is very important to actors. Or maybe I set my bar too high.

One more thing, I can understand that our MC didn't feel passionate about the acting career at first because he had no... more>> prior interest in this area. But I had hoped that he would grow his love and passion along the way with his career, sadly that didn't happen. While he did try to improve it is only fleetingly mentioned. Most of the time he only cares about fame and money and girls which is a total letdown for me. While every other actor and actress in the novel is so focused on their acting and admires the MC for his skill it feels unfair for the other because the MC doesn't focus his mind on the acting itself.

I don't know if this will get better in the future but if the story stays this way then sadly I will have to drop it here. <<less

I absolutely love the misunderstandings. Yes, things are "easy" but that's the genre. It's one of the novels I have no problems following everyday. Good and fast translation. We don't have to wait too long between each movie/series/etc.. And you'll always get what you expect. I really do cackle at each misunderstandings.

This story has a promising concept with intriguing characters, but the repeated praise for the protagonist and the formulaic action sequences become monotonous after a while. Exploring the characters' individual motivations and reactions in these situations could add depth and make them more engaging. Additionally, delving into emotions like jealousy or unfairness that might arise from the protagonist's successes or perceived advantages could create compelling internal conflicts and emotional arcs. While the author clearly has a strong foundation, injecting more realism and emotional complexity would elevate the story to its... more>> full potential.

In my opinion a failed story <<less

I personally love this novel! Is the snowball of misunderstanding illogical? Yes, yes it is. But like the MC let's just roll with it 🤣 I first started reading this novel as a casual read and I don't know at which point it made me hunt down the raws just to find out what happens next.

In my opinion, MC isn't as normal as he thinks he is. My theory is he is a lazy bug who was born with some pretty good stats but didn't notice it until the system... more>> (?) did. I don't want to think too much over the "logic" within the author's worldview and because of that I can happily read this. <<less

a feel good novel with a gary sue MC, basically. And I love it

what I like about the way this story tackles the misunderstanding trope is that the MC realizes early on that people got the wrong idea and actively lets them continue to misunderstand. He concludes, "well, it doesnt harm anyone and I cant be bothered to explain." its fun to read

usually in novels like this, the MC either regresses or possesses someone else's body, so they often start at a young age and get praised as a... more>> prodigy. But here, the MC is 27 and just quit his job. Even if he has no written record of being in the acting field before, its more plausible for people to believe he studied secretly for 10 years than if he was a 17 year old that showed the same amount of skill. Doesnt change the fact that he became op out of nowhere, but it still made it interesting

one thing I find majorly annoying though is how the author drags on the events. For example, if the story is set on a tuesday, the author starts by describing what the MC is doing, then adds literally everything thats happening in the background. Side characters get to be on the spotlight for six or so paragraphs, even when what theyre doing is so mundane and irrelevant to the plot at that moment. Theyre side characters and background characters for a reason: id rather read about the MCs experience during a photoshoot or his interactions with the side characters than to see the inner workings of how the movies and dramas are being prepared.

the movies and dramas in this though were extremely interesting. Its to the point I think they were made by a different author because they seemed to be written better than the actual novel our MC is in. Its a strange phenomenon where the separate stories within a novel are more eye catching than the novel itself

overall enjoyable if youre like me who has consumed hundreds of novels with gary sue MCs and can never get tired of them. Its not that s*upid and theres not much annoying antagonists that bother the MC like mosquitoes. If youre looking for character development and something compelling though, I suggest you look for something else <<less

I like this very much. Straight to the point, What You Get Is What You See. From the title, and genre, down to the description. The thing that I think some readers will find a problem is;

1. MC golden finger - Too OP, the MC can go to this so-called void something that he can play the character and become the character itself including language/talent and maybe many more in the future. Making it too easy and feel bland. No original personality for MC. (Not a problem for me)

2.... more>> Misunderstanding - Something like Boss Pei from Losing Money To Be Tycoon. (Usually, the people who go read it first before reading the tag/genre/description.)

3. MC past - The MC meets all these bigshots of the entertainment industry and not a single one finds any noteworthy about MC's past. It's all "rumor", about going abroad since he speaks fluent English and Japanese. There is no way that kind of people can't even find where you attend middle school, high school, and other basic info

These 3, especially the misunderstanding are what I think will irritate, annoy, and may be the cause of dropping this novel. Plus points for not including romance or any force romance at least for now. It's very entertaining <<less

I’m distraught. How could this happen. I have no more chapters to read... (-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩___-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩-̩̩̩)

But to give a review: it’s very good. Entertainment industry settings aren’t my favorite, but I think this one is- if not the best-then definitely close to the best that I’ve read so far. Unlike others with the same setting, the author keeps multiple things going at the same time (albeit in different phases). To me, this means there’s never a dull moment, no feeling of “oh the thing I cared about is over, now they... more>> want me to care about something else?”... I’m not sure if others feel the same, but since the author lays the groundwork for the MC’s next projects in advance, every moment is one I care about... Including the ones he didn’t get to because I ran out of chapters... !!

Also notable is that it holds up well without romance. Or, I don’t know if it will ever have romance in the future, but I often find that some books without romance don’t have strongly fleshed out characters or don’t have meaningful interpersonal relationships between the MC and others. This one, while it doesn’t have incredibly strong interpersonal relationships, it’s not bad either. The characters though, are fleshed out. They feel alive. No one feels vague and all of the characters are very distinct from each other! Even characters that aren’t seen often! That is very rare.

If you have time to read it, I recommend it. If you don’t, I’d recommend saving it somewhere for when you do. <<less

It's quite a fun read. Funny how he tried to straighten up some things but it kept getting south and the misunderstanding just kept going lol, now he has given up and just let people continue to misunderstand. My only problem with this series is the pacing. For me it's too slow and too many things going on happened in the same time i.e he's working like up to 4-5 projects in the same time, it's making me confused sometimes. There's this movie he'll be starring in mentioned below chapter... more>> 100 and finally hit the theatre at chapter 250+, truly the payoff is way too long for me to be satisfied. It feels like the author just try to prolong it for details and such but sorry it's way too much and I couldn't care less as I know everything MC does will go well. This makes me skip a whole bunch of chapters that just contained the dialogue when shooting, as it doesn't really affect anything. The progression is also getting monotonous as it keeps going, it goes from MC take the script + learn with his subspace and getting the skills needed + shooting the scene and people will be amazed + hits the theatre and audience will go crazy, rinse and repeat. Overall it's still a fun read when you're bored, but I think it's not the type of novel that I will read from chapter 1 again once it's finished. <<less

Fun entertainment power fantasy with goofy misunderstandings. Good TL, too.

It's not the most involved story. Conflicts are handily resolved (when a conflict can be found), and the plot mostly revolves around 1) MC doing a stellar job acting and 2) everyone in shock or inspired by him, but whatever, it's comfort food. I got what I wanted out of this and I enjoy the updates. I totally understand how that wouldn't jive with other people, though, and objectively the story's closer to 2.5 stars. I just like misunderstandings a whole... more>> lot.

Knocked off a star for the weird nationalism. (Edit from the future: a lot of the concerns I had in this paragraph eventually taper off. Edit 2: LOL NEVERMIND I hadn't reached the part with the Chinese actors, this is nationalist af) There's an author and a director that are both Japanese, and every time they have a scene they always mention how Japan lags behind Korea in acting, dramas, whatever and how Korea is better. <<less

This is a really funny novel. I think anyone who can find the fun of the misunderstandings will like this. Theres just so much tension as our man grows as an actor. At what point will the truth be revealed? Will the truth ever be revealed? Theres so many questions I have that I believe will naturally be revealed.

Theres just so many layers to what these circumstances are and his void space abilities plays a hand in it.

It is good, but it’s a new book and if you have read any novels that’s about film making, you would know how much time it takes even for one movie/drama/video the MC partook on. Yea it would take at least 40 - 50 chapters or even more. So I can’t say anything right now since I only read 34 chapters.

A really interesting and well-paced story. I always look forward to how the author will deepen the relationships of those around our MC, and how each of their interactions help to further develop every character's personality and skills.

I especially look forward to seeing how our protagonist will deal with future conflict since I'm now at the part where we are reaching the end of the exposition, and the story begins to pick up pace.

It's fun. I really enjoyed his OP acting journey, as well as the inevitable misunderstandings that take place.

Kang Woojin's growth as an actor is enjoyable to read — how he steadily gains confidence as he goes, given that he was just a clueless civilian at the start.

Some points of dissatisfaction, though:

Spoiler
  • ROMANCE: I am not against romance, however, I feel like this point was rushed, given that the girl Woojin ended up with didn't really have enough screen time. She was the last to appear, too, making it seem like they didn't have enough time to build rapport with each other.
    Spoiler

I also don't like how she didn't believe Woojin when he showed his real self to her lol.

    [collapse]
  • I feel bad that people don't seem to believe Woojin's "real self." The people seem to believe he's just "acting" when he tries to reveal himself.
  • What is the reason for the void space's appearance???
  • THE ENDING: What was that? I'm not sure if it's the MTL, but I am lost as to what the ending is supposed to be... Would've really preferred if it showed the outcomes of his other films, too.

Other than these, I'd say this novel is a great read! The plot is pretty straightforward, and the misunderstandings are hilarious.

This novel is a masterpiece that captures the essence of a true artist’s journey, delivering an experience that is both thrilling and deeply immersive. The main character's growth as an actor is portrayed with such skill and nuance that I felt I was right there, witnessing his incredible talent unfold. Rather than relying on flashy scenes, the story uses subtle and realistic interactions to show the main character’s brilliance, making each moment feel authentic and powerful.

The author’s decision to focus on reactions and the praise surrounding the main character's performances... more>> is bold yet effective. It leaves space for the reader's imagination, allowing us to sense the awe his talent inspires in others. This unique approach feels like seeing a breathtaking performance from a VIP section—close enough to appreciate the details but not so close that it loses its mystique.

For readers who enjoy a character-driven story that spotlights the beauty of subtlety, ambition, and talent, this book will leave you in awe. An unforgettable read!

Meh— there are parts that is so boring!! <<less

The misconception that the character showcases no growth is a lie, his persona was heavily veiled with the "concept" hence it was hard to see his improvement. While his extra personal communication has plateaued, his skills as an actor are continuously showing growth. The MC wasn't just using what the void space was offering, he's making it his own and continuing to expand from it (a clear example is the Role Synthesis, without the MC's intent it wouldn't have manifested).

In the first place, this wasn't about "Kang Jinwoo", this is... more>> about "Actor Kang Jinwoo". All the other skills he possessed shouldn't be judged as a separate skill, they are the branches that his acting have manifested in order to showcase the characters to their fullest. <<less
