It's a fun read, but conflicts have become repetitive. They center around the MC insulting his opponent in one way or another, not realizing what he said was extremely insulting, and getting annoyed someone dares challenge him. Most of the opponents are prideful/arrogant guys who vastly underestimate the MC because of his age/poor clothes/ignorance. Usually they're also rich and spoiled. A crowd gathers, the MC beats his opponent, everyone is amazed at how unconventional/talented the MC is, rinse and repeat.

The MC is also just going through life bumbling around. It... more>> seems like he hasn't learned how society works, which is weird because he's literally got a library in his head. A lot of his mistakes are things that you wouldn't say to someone in this life too. He really needs to read a few books on social etiquette at some point.

I do enjoy reading about the world the author has built, it feels very fleshed out and real. The supporting characters are great too, especially when the MC is teaching them. Watching the MC master the nine professions is half the fun of the series. <<less

Pro:

  • Xuanhuan GTO vibe, somewhat.
  • Main character is bearable and good. No psycho here.
  • Good ideas for the lore.
  • Emphasis on diverse subjects, like painting or tea making.
Con:

  • Too much prideful morons as enemies.
  • Too repetitive.
  • No romance (even subtle romance would have been good). Though no romance is sometime better than most romances I see in Chinese WN.

It's fun but really repetitive. At the start it was better, but as it went on he just turned into a skill acquirer. That's all he does. He goes to a place and learns something and shits on the experts within that current location. Then he goes somewhere else and repeats it. This story would be better if it was more about the interactions between the characters since the

This story would be better if it was more about the interactions between the characters since the cultivation for him is so... more>> quick and easy. But the guy lacks like any emotion from what I can gather. He's not interested in romantic relationships at all which seems odd for a young adult and recently he's become really arrogant for someone with just an incredible cheat.

Edit: c743

It's pretty terrible. Not sure why I keep reading this sh*t because it hurts my head.

  • The MC destroys everything. He does a test and he destroys it. He uses some resource and he destroys it. He just basically use up all the resources available without caring about other people.
  • He just shits on everyone. He hides his status and expects people to respect him for no reason and it creates s*upid situations.
  • He doesn't save any resources to use later. He runs out of currency so often.
  • His s*upid, fat steward is such a terrible character. I really wish he got mu*dered by one of the random characters he sh*t talks. He runs his mouth so much even though he's always the weakest.
  • The MC is so s*upid. You'd think he would learn something other than technical smarts since he reads all books. You would imagine he would get some street smarts too from those books or at least remember some basic street smarts from his previous life.
  • The plot is getting worse if possible. It's very repetitive which would be fine if the MC wasn't so annoying.
  • The students barely appear in a supposed story about teachers.
  • The romantic interests get dropped with every new region.

Novel using a tired trope but that's part the parcel nowadays and while worth noting not effecting score. The MC seems to suffer the same condition many JP MC's have in godly powerful but mind-numbingly dense and not just because he's from another world.

If want a taster what entire novel is like this quote pretty sums him up “To think that one of them is a librarian and an expert while the other one is a reputable and popular teacher... Pui! To be unable to match up to a transcender... more>> like me, they are truly lacking in knowledge!” He then takes this knowledge for granted and thinks people who spent their lives and reputation ain't worth s*** because the answers don't smack them in the face (quite literary they just appearer in his head.)

I Would call this a poor mans Emperor’s Domination as the premise is similar and MC both are ungodly knowledgeable, arrogant and insufferable ***** but one has character and motivation and justification the other has get goals seem to be step 1. Get strong 2. Acquire knowledge 3. ????? 4. Profit? <<less

I don't know how to start this review.. So, I'll just speak my mind directly.

This story is a very typical 'face-slapping' story. The MC has a cheat that pops up at the most convenient times to humiliate his opponents. His opponents are as one-dimensional as they come. People who wallow in pride and are jealous at the MC and stick around just long enough to show the MC's superiority. They spend decades reaching their position and the MC just steamrolls over them, without the MC exerting any effort.

The MC has... more>> one true character trait: he is a teacher (yes, I count that as a character trait in this story). He seemingly truly cares for his students... Although I already see the signs that'll change in time. Already there are hints of a growing group of women that adore him, including fellow teachers (which starts off another jealousy-filled 'arc') and students (one in particular - that grows ever more perfect and beautiful each chapter)

It's a power-trip story. But any power-trip story hangs on you being able to identify yourself as the MC. Seeing he stumbles into power, rather than really having to work for it, that becomes really hard to do so.

So why am I still reading this? The students. There is 'some' character development and 'some' effort done by them and I'm a sucker for the 'growing protagonist'; even if they aren't the protagonists here. Making me wonder where they'll end up. They can become the saving graces of the story. But don't count on it.

The translation is fine. The story can be followed just fine... Well, most of the time. There are even some chuckles here and there. But other than that, it's just a very one-dimensional story. <<less

Don't mind my rating, I just really like it.

A repetitive novel with various repetitive face-slapping moments. Every 10 chapters, this happens:

    • MC knows nothing about a subject OR his apparent level about the subject is very low despite he is actually a genius in said subject because he didn't take the exam to get the promotion.
    • Everyone looks down on the MC due to the reason above without giving him chance to explain, mostly due to coincidence or the MC being "humble".
    • No one can solve a problem about said subject.
    • MC easily solve the problem above, amazing / face-slapping everyone. Repeat.

5/5 (as of c176)

4/5 (as of c916, machine translation.) Edit: Reduced score since it's getting repetitive while his opponents are getting dumber rather than smarter (the entire point of higher rank famed masters is that they're much more smarter, stronger, cunning, older, etc but his opponents are even dumber.)

Refreshing and humorous take on the stale Xianxia genre.

I'm not sure why several reviewers don't like how "easily" the MC acquires more power since the MC powers up about as fast as other typical xianxia MCs but has more limitations*... more>> (see below) & is more upfront about it (instead of claiming the be hard working but only being strong due to some heaven defying dildo). The main difference is that MC fully acknowledges that he can only rely on his OP appraisal ability to keep his advantage. I also don't see how this novel is more repetitive than other Xianxia novels, at least every encounter so far has been unique & doesn't feel like the MC is literally fighting the same villains with different names. (*cough ED cough ATG cough IISTH cough*). Another good point of Library of Heaven's Path is much less fluff than typical Xianxia novels, things move along at an extremely fast pace.

*Limitations such as:

Spoiler

1) Needs to physically get his hands on books to actually get stronger, otherwise is just an appraisal ability on steroids. (The library apparently can't make knowledge out of nothing but it can tell everything about what the MC encounters & if knowledge is "true.")

2) Can only rely on his OP skill (literally had no cultivation or training when he entered the world) & works extremely hard to power his currently only (OP) advantage but also determined to help his students out as well.... speaking of which.

3) Seems that the library of Heaven's Path either encourages or induces some sort of mental compulsion almost forcing the MC to become an ideal teacher. In exchange, it rewards him with other features of the library (golden book)

4) His determination to keep his original body's dream going & raising his students to become the best. He doesn't really need to give them watered down versions of his perfect cultivation techs & abilities, he could just give abandon his identity as schoolteacher, forge another one as a master teacher then enjoy the luxurious life without all the baggage.

The protagonist has an OP skill. But the thought process, reasoning, and episodes are hilarious. His OP skill takes away the boring grinding of the story. He doesn't need to sit down and meditate a million hours and I'm very thankful to read a story without this for once. I don't hate it, but every story has the same process and descriptions and I'm so over it already. His leveling up adventure is new and I love all the side episodes and main plot. I'm excited to read every chapter~

Kind of repetitive and easily predicted, but somehow still make me want to continue reading it.

MC is kind of amusing, the character are very developed.

Although the depiction of the world is not that good, the story and plot are good.

The way MC reacts to things always make me baffled and amused.

6/10 from me.

Different and Fun! Unexpectedly, it turned out to be really good.

Pros: it's Humorous, due to the MC having low EQ which causes ambiguity in his speech and ppl getting constantly shocked :'D

Thankfully there's no humor due to idiocy/naivety... So it saves ur braincells!

... more>> No evil villains constantly picking a fight with the MC.

It's a good change of pace from the normal xianxia tropes

OP OP OP! MC is really OP in an interesting way.

Knowledge is power and he is totally the example of that! (Literally every students dream power lol)

Cons: Repetetiveness might bug ppl at some point.

I recommed that u definitely give it a try... U can always drop it later...

Also, the manhua is lacking compared to the novel... So I recommend the novel! <<less

Though I can't say at this point (chapter 161) that this is some literary masterpiece, it is definitely one of the most enjoyable novels I've read in a while. The MC is comically OP and its constant moments where all these old men who have been training for years almost sh!t their pants after seeing how easy the MC picks up new techniques.

While the MC is a teacher, they way he has gone so far is to first power himself up by learning many many new skills, then combines everything... more>> into a slightly watered down version which he passes on to his student, so far though the students basically the main focus of yhe novel (in concept) but it's a bit like "hey, so an so needs some special medicine, let me go on an adventure without them for 20-30 chapters to go get it" and this is basically the layout for most of the MCs adventures to far.

All that aside def 5/5 would love if the TL speed was a bit faster but just makes me appreciate a new chapter more. <<less

So far so good. The translation is good and the novel itself is awesome. This novel is a light read. I like it that way because I don't have to think about the injustice in the world, any moral issues or deep philosophy. I just have a pleasant time reading it. The comedic scenes are well written. MC's shamelessness has the potential to be one of the top. The downside is that I wish I had waited for more chapters before reading it.

This is... not a very good story. It's over 2000 chapters long, and finished, which is a plus. But I could've stopped reading around chapter 30 and had the complete experience, because after that it's all repetition ad nauseum. I wasted WAY too much time getting to chapter 522, but nothing new happened!

1) MC runs into some locally influential person (LIP), but has no idea who they are.

2) MC says something that shows his broad ignorance, and offends LIP, who usually has some major problem to solve.

3) LIP or his... more>> sycophants mock and deride MC for his s*upidity and weakness.

4) MC notices something wrong with LIP's cultivation, health, etc. and comments on it. He fixes it in 10 seconds with acupuncture needles in a way that nobody has ever seen before. Suddenly everyone respects him.

5) MC "reads" (i.e. touches) tens of thousands of conveniently available books on whichever subject he was ignorant about. Sometimes he'll get a random power-up from that alone, but other times he has to use his cheat power to get his power-up. Either way, he gets one with little to no actual effort.

6) MC magically solves LIP's major problem, thus gaining LIP as yet another of his own worshippers.

7) All of LIP's sycophants (and usually LIP himself) feels face-slapped because of (3).

8) Go to (1)

That's the entire story. Over and over and over and over again. There's literally nothing else to this story. It's all MC acting like a douchebag, "misunderstandings", magical free power-ups, and easy solutions that everyone around him takes as face-slapping because China. There were maybe 2-3 times in over 500 chapters that I briefly chuckled at something, but most of the attempts at humor were juvenile and flat.

At this point I no longer care if the book ever evolves or the MC grows out of his abrasive, rude ignorance. I don't care if he wins yet another contest, gets yet another high-ranked title for little to no effort, impresses another perfect beauty or emperor or guild master. It's been boring for most of the time I spent on it, and I can't justify wasting any more time on it. It gets two stars purely because I did enjoy it at first, but I'd rather give it 1.5 stars if I could. It's that bad. <<less

I kinda like the novel at first but I stop read this novel because it getting annoying.

  • If you read this novel, you will realize MC is a tr*sh, s*upid, reckless and got no honor/pride.
  • Everyone can talk tr*sh about MC, plan to humiliate him in public, and MC will just ignore it because he think it troublesome. and if MC are trying to prove his worth against people who humiliate him, he will fight him.
  • And if Author in a good mood, he will forgive MC opponent no matter how EVIL his opponent are. And if Author in a bad mood, he just beat MC opponent (not kill him) so later, author can use that character to get revenge on MC by using many dirty trick author come up with.
  • Author also make it difficult for MC raise in cultivation. I know many people said MC can easily increase his cultivation unlike other character but I don't think so. MC need around 1000 type of cultivation book for EVERY CULTIVATION LEVEL to raise his cultivation. But, if you see his disciple, people who listen to his lecturer, they can just rise it like that. (MC need many spirit stone to increase his cultivation level while his disciple do not need it at all)
  • Any cultivation novel, they just need to learn one cultivation technique to increase their cultivation level until MC found new stronger cultivation technique. But not for this novel. Every level (1-dan, 2-dan, 3-dan,........ 8-dan, 9-dan) need new cultivation book.. A thousand book for every level.. not to mention, that is just one realm.. If each realm have 9-level, wowwww... sooo s*upid.. His disciple can just increase their cultivation without cultivation book.
  • Not to mention, the MC characteristic, Author makes MC soooo s*upid that he know almost nothing about the world even after read million book..
  • his opponent behaviour are all arrogant.. Almost all character in this novel are arrogant.. Everyone keep condemn MC.. All MC decision will be laugh and condemn.. and later, when MC prove they are wrong, they will shock. Later, same thing happen again and again and again... Every test, every tournament, every chapter are exactly like this.. You will also read repetitive sentence which have same sentence every side character shocking word in every situation, every test, every tournament, every chapter.
  • Even MC has super OP library in his head, MC not use it properly. or should I say, Author not knowing to makes MC use it intelligently..
from this novel, you can tell the author just write whatever he want, such as:

  • not planning
  • not building story properly
  • not building character (MC sometimes s*upid, sometimes kind, sometimes show respect, sometimes arrogant, sometimes humble, sometimes generous, sometimes materialistic)
  • keep changing situation (cannot patient)
They are sooooo many thing for you to not read it.. and they are many novel are better than this novel.. So, don't waste your time on this novel.. It is a waste of time..

This is literally one of the worst web novels I have ever read. It has an interesting premise of having the MC be a teacher, but then immediately throws it away by having him not teach anything. All he does is "read" a bunch of books and have his magical library summarise them into a godly high-level technique capable of turning the worst tr*sh into a god-like genius. He barely even sees his students and goes from place to place, face-slapping anyone who dares to question him. He's literally a... more>> Gary Stu, perfect and infallible in every conceivable way. He can almost immediately become an expert in any field just by flipping through countless books. The comedy was funny at first, but the author overdid; it becomes very stale, quickly. As for cultivation? Don't even bother with that. The MC just has his magic library to create a god-like cultivation skill for him which he can use to instantly jump through multiple levels, becoming the youngest expert in his country. Even for "brain-shutting " standards, it's bad.

Some of the side characters are pretty interesting, but since the MC is always going to a new area to teach the art of face-slapping, they're quickly forgotten. It could make a good first-read, but for someone who has read dozens or over a hundred such novels, it's pretty boring. Typical wish-fulfillment novel. <<less

This is one of the webnovels I would rate highly. I've reread it about 5 times over a few years, and it never fails to make me laugh every time. The story is a lighthearted, and the main focus is on face slapping. The best way to enjoy the novel is probably by turning off your brain and just taking everything the author writes at its face value, the novel becomes terrible if you think about how shallow the characters are and how formulaic the plot is.

Story:

As mentioned previously, the... more>> plot is extremely formulaic. If you've read 100 chapters, you've basically read the entire novel. This also means that you should really stop reading the moment you stop enjoying the novel, including the beginning chapters. It will never get better. I would say doing this is what makes the difference between viewing LoHP as a fun read or leaving with a sour taste in your mouth.

The Formula:

It's been a while since I last read the novel so my recollection of the formula isn't as clear, but this what I roughly remember.

  1. MC goes somewhere because he wants to get something
  2. Someone there (rightfully) thinks the MC is completely out of his field
  3. Usually, there will be a few geniuses that will be there doing the same thing as the MC, and they will typically will go first, setting their results as the standard.
  4. At this point, attention is drawn back to the MC and he's forced to play his hand
  5. MC does/says something extremely misleading and/or absurd, shocks the crowd in a bad way
  6. Despite the criticisms from the crowd, MC then shocks everyone further by proving the absurd thing he said or did was actually 100% true and correct.
  7. At one of these steps, the author makes sure to narrate from the point of view of a spectator, where there will always be at least two people. One person will be in charge of saying something along the lines of "There's no way he'll be able to do this", upon which MC will instantly do it, causing this person to puke blood. The other person is usually in charge of patting the disbeliever on the shoulder and pointing to the MC while the disbeliever is going on a long spiel about why the MC can't do it.
  8. Rinse and repeat for thousands of chapters
Face-slapping:

Something I like about this novel is how it doesn't have one of my pet peeves, which is when the MC gets stronger but the enemies he has to face get stronger just as fast or even faster than him. Or when the MC faces a huge injustice and has to watch the opponent revel in glee, with his revenge only coming hundreds of chapters later. I'm a fan of instant gratification, and LoHP really scratches that itch. Every time the MC gets treated condescendingly, he always instantly retaliates, and completely crushes them in every aspect. If that sounds like something you would like, then this novel is likely to be for you. It's one of the better-written pure power fantasies I've seen (though the standards are extremely low). <<less

Synopsis, the ability of the protagonist and the world itself is interesting I can give it that. It's similar to Absolute great teacher, with all the professions and mastery level; the only thing that's different is that at least Sun Mo learns about the basic knowledge of the world and know how to go with the flow. Zhang Xuan in this novel on the other hand is an absolute idiot. I don't even understand why did he become a teacher when the novel seems to like to focus on him... more>> alone and not his students and his supposed "Badassery" with the help of an omnipotent glorified search engine.

The repetitive formula of not knowing something, reading a book about it, becomes a master and shocking everyone that disdained him, is such a bland and boring way to progress the novel. <<less

  • [I DIDNT KNOW THAT THERE HAREM GENRE IN NOVEL.I ONLY READ IT ON MANHUA AND THERE'S NO HAREM TAG SO I THOUGH THIS GONNA BE SINGLE MC OR HAVE ONLY 1 WIFE.]
Its entertaining, he's too op because of the cheat but what I hate about this novel is his partner at the end. I expect too much, and end up dropping

around 1187 because it becomes bland for me especially the romance that already starting to arouse. I dont like the girl and I expect him to be single all... more>> around after story dropping girl per arc scene he solve and also because of his cold personality but then suddenly author put some romance. I already accept that he's gonna have only one wife but then.

Spoiler

I learn from some spoiler that he got a wife at the end named Luo Ruoxi then after the finale there's a side story where zhang xuan married his fvxking student named Luo Qiqi. Which is the girl (the past zx Destined to arrange marriage with, before the MC reborn to zx body) he treat her as his student then boom on side story. He got married to her. It becomes like an harem troupe, where MC always Destined to have 2 wife than being loyal. I got huge expectation that MC gonna be single or have 1 wife because he's a teacher and yet he still married his student on that side story even though he rejected him in the past which annoyed me that's why I rate it 1 and not interested to the story anymore. The 1000+ below chapter about cultivating and eliminating and his power is too op and then on 9th vol which is a different scene because he's a Saint and of course there's romance involvement example of this is the marriage dilemma. Hes involved with the teacher luo rouxi and his student luo qiqi and MC end up getting them both as his wife. I'll rate this as 3.5 out of 10.

Look, it was extremely repetitive, a lot of the tropes were bullshit/stereotypical. But this was the only time I read a novel as a "comfort novel" instead of as a serious read and I loved it. It lacks in seriousness and actual immersive plot, but there were a few times it got serious and I loved each of those times.

It follows the simple pattern of new city-->bottom of the totem pole-->grow in strength-->face slap. Honestly, if you like face slapping comedy, you'll like this.

It is mostly comedy all the way... more>> through and the MC is made to become OP and master everything. And I love that about it, it does it well, it made me laugh, even when it was flawed.

It's funny to me. Give it a read as a comfort novel. The beginning chapters felt slow because they took place over like one day, but it quickly picks up. Loved it.

While I do like this novel and plan on reading it all, it really only qualifies as a time killer, and is nothing special.

There is a few tense moments here and there, but for the most part it's always smooth sailing for the MC, which is not necessarily a bad thing, if you just want a relaxing story without any big tragedies or anxious moments, but if you dislike overpowered MCs, you should definitely avoid this novel.

I think the strongest point of this novel is that there's a lot of... more>> funny moments and if you like the good old "face slapping" then this is definitely the novel for you, because that's what MC does almost 24/7, when he's not busy making miracles happen.

If you're mostly here for romance or the harem tag then you should probably also avoid this novel, because while there is some romance moments, they are pretty scarce and mostly very innocent and not very fleshed out. Lets just say that there's probably elementary school romances that are more spicy than this :P

As for the harem aspect, there is a lot of potential heroine candidates, but MC pretty much only really goes for one woman in particular and the "harem"
Spoiler

only amounts to that one women for the most part and one more, which seemed a bit of an afterthought later on :')

[collapse]

One thing that really bothered me about this novel is that, you can almost physically feel that this novel was written by a teacher, by how much the author deifies them and keeps preaching about how great they are, while lamenting that teachers nowadays are not respected anymore etc :')

Also while it's good to do world building, it's pretty annoying that the story flow stops every few sentences, to explain everything in detail, often even the same thing multiple times over and over...

At this point I'm not sure, whether the author just wants to stretch the word count with his overbearing explanations all the time or if it's just because of his disposition as a teacher. It's probably both :P <<less
