“Until the day humanity falls.”

In the year 2020, Earth’s magnetic poles disappeared and humankind was nearly wiped out by cosmic radiation. Within the span of a hundred years, living creatures began to mutate and devour each other while the remaining humans, numbering in the tens of thousands, struggled bitterly in their man-made bases.

In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Because it had been nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze, not only did it take on a similar-looking human form, but a similar name as well: An Zhe.

An Zhe is determined to go to the human base to search for his spore, which had been harvested by humans. Once there, however, he faces the omnipresent risk of discovery and certain death as he tries to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges, whose responsibility is to inspect for and eliminate xenogenics like himself. And of all the Judges, Colonel Lu Feng is the most perceptive and merciless—as soon as he determines that someone is a xenogenic, he will execute that person on the spot.

But An Zhe’s mutation goes undetected by Lu Feng’s eyes, and so a tale of humans and xenogenics unfolds…

Hey~~ I like this novel. It almost like 'The Laws of The Other World' with all the infection from mutation plants and animals. It's apocalypse but not Zombies.

I only read till c.32 and all characters I met, died. At this point, I feels like Attack on Titan again ahahaha

The relationship between MC and ML at this point is between acquaintance and friends. The ML suspected MC is not human (he is not) while MC afraid of ML finding out but still need to get close to find his spore.

I read the last chapters of the raw (MT).

I absolutely adore the story. It is not your typical apocalypse setting and feels really fresh. The characters are very profound and their feelings and character are well thought through. I love the little mushroom who feels more human than every other human in the story, despite not actually being one. He gains even more of a human feeling the further the story goes. The judge as ML is a little bit lacking in comparison, but still a great character.

The story is... more>> shonen-ai, but the MC and ML never go further than a kiss. If you want a lot of bl action, this isn´t for you. Even thou, the mutual feelings they share go very deep and I am rooting for them. <<less

Never have I ever been so invested in a danmei novel. The story is unique and heart-wrenching, the characters make me shred tears, and the writing leaves me content. Every chapter is a roller coaster of emotions and thus, I can only say that this is the best danmei novel ever written.

Don't let the summary fool you. This story is filled to the brim with knives. Slowly cutting your heart into pieces. But it is so good that you'll gladly hand your heart over. And when you're crying your heart out over a mushroom, just remember this: It is a happy ending!!!

I'll say it again!

This! Story! Is! SO! GOOD!!!!!

(I've never left a review before. That's how good this story is!!!!)

I know it's too early to leave comments but this is a masterpiece!! I love the way the author wrote the story. It is so fantasy, I can imagine what is happening. I love it. It is so different from the other apocalypse genre this is nice. Thank you author for creating a masterpiece. Thank you translator for translating this story. I love it. ❤️? Update:

This is one heck of a coaster ride. It gives you crying moments, sad moments, heartbreaking moments. However there are also heart touching moments or fluffs... more>> and sweetness so it kinda balance each. I really love this story. <<less

Every Trial Judge have rules to follow to save the man kind to it's end. It might be cruel to others but it's good for all. Others might hate them but its the rules. Human must survive! And kill the monster!

Destiny makes them meet. A ruthless judge who only follow the rules. A judge who can identify the target in 100% rate. The person who don't even blink in killing monster. A joke of fate to introduce him to the innocent mushrooms. A bystander one who just want to protect... more>> its spore and take care of it until its end.

He knows he's right. His intuition never been wrong. He knows that the teenager standing in front of him is weird but why the machines saying his wrong. Did his intuition failed? or this person is just weird.

One person that makes him doubt his intuition. The person who makes him hesitate by more than ones. The person who will change his life. The person he didn't expect who will judge him and he's the one who give the privilege to do so... that little mushroom.

It's a really interesting concept of apocalypse and different than other apocalypse genre. It's not full of angst or misunderstanding but it's also not the sweet fluffy kind. There are some sweet interactions here and there.

It's a Happy Ending!

Many times when you read this you feel like it's going to be a Bad Ending but it's not so just hold on!

One thing I want to complain is the lack of extras QAQ

This became one of my favourite novels so far. Action parts are amazing. Summary seems fluffy tho you should prepare yourself for the coming sad and depressing events. I love tht both MC and ML are strong. I'm satisfied with fluffy parts too. This whole novel will give you mixed emotions.

in a post apocalyptic world where the planet lost its magnetism and mutant creatures multiply and diversify, stealing genes from each other and preying on human to get their mental ability and infecting them with their own to turn them into mutant, most of humanity survive in fortified cities covered by artificial magnetic field in order to repulse the infection

in all that, a little mushroom happen upon a dying human explorer and accidentally get infected with human genes and memories, able to take the appearance of the human, it start to search for his spores that were collected long ago by a "judge", an human trained to recognize infected people and kill them on the spot to protect humanity

the background of the story is gloomy, but it is not dehumanising, every person is well fleshed out, every death is heavy, and there is a lot of those, yet you still want to root for an happy ending and for the judge and the little mushroom to resolve their difference and be at peace

Truly a well-written novel. It was especially an emotional rollercoaster for me as well. I can't put into words what I wish to say, but the impact of the magnetic fields disappearing, and overall, the struggles of humanity, it is all so beautifully written. This novel truly had an impact on me too. I would 100% recommend reading this.

I highly recommend this story. A beautiful story with a philosophical look at existence, along with a lovable character. What else can you expect from a great book? The godlike emotions of the main character allow you as the reader to immerse yourself in the story and enjoy it.

I’ve never been a fan of sci-fi, except when I was little I had a massive obsession with the stars. This book made me realize how hard physics are but also how interesting they are.

Honestly, the book kept me on edge the whole time. I didn’t have any hope until the very finale.

I’m gonna be frank, I don’t cry much but I cried every single chapter from the middle of the second (officially translated) book. I felt despair, I laughed and I loved along with the characters.

Truly a masterpiece. Now... more>> I have left only the epilogue to read and I can’t wait enough to get back home and binge it even if it means I don’t get enough sleep. <<less

I really... Wanted to love it, okay? I wanted to. But something just felt wrong and I couldn't put my finger on it, until now.

I love both MC and ML individually as characters. Both are deep layered characters with ambitions and unique personality traits and thoughts and so on. I also loved their interactions and adored them together until about 3/4 in, where it's revealed that ... more>>
Spoiler

ML injected a tracker in MC. I audibly recoiled when I read that. He couldn't have betrayed MC any more, and yet MC still forgave him.. I felt like ML put his code and the base before MC every. Single. Time. And then he's basically idolized for "not killing MC". I feel like it's the least he could've done, considering he KNOWS MC is super kind and gentle.

[collapse]

The plot was amazing. It had me on the edge of my seat, and I swear I saw NO hope for a happy ending until the VERY last moment when everything took a sharp 180. I thought you guys were coping or trolling me lol. Also, I'm not a big fan of sci-fi (I tolerate it) but I actually really enjoyed this one!

The side characters were pretty bland. Sorry, didn't really like much of 'em (not to mention most of them die before you can get attached, or end up being pretty bland/one dimensional).

Oh, also, I got desensitized to the mass mu*der at... Oh, I don't know, the third mass shooting and second nuclear bomb on civilians. Yeah this novel killed off LOTS of people and often, so often, that I stopped being surprised when another 1-2k people died in a chapter.

Lastly, MC and ML's relationship was a bit strange... Especially at the end..? Some people found torturing MC's spore disgusting, but I actually found one of the extras a bit disturbing. MC and ML go to explore the abyss and MC complains about being in pain (presumably because ML was rough with him during.. sex? Making out?). MC complains that ML won't stop even if he cries and pleads. ML turns a blind ear to him and initiates another make out. Not to mention every other time ML more or less forces himself on MC when MC is angry ❤️😊 why. Pushing MC down when he was upset about the spore's mistreatment. Trapping MC in his arms when he was upset about ML's bone crushing betrayal (even I was betrayed, I couldn't believe my eyes). It goes on, I don't like his forcefulness with our kind, soft, gentle and pure MC... : (

I was low-key hoping there wouldn't be any romance because the MC is repeatedly described with child-like qualities: pure, innocent, doesn't get bad intentions, doesn't really know about s*x, he's just very soft and pure to the point where I felt ML's forceful kisses were dirtying him lol.

I have qualms with the GN too. By all means, this novel PROMISED ME a bad end. The entire time, the doomed atmosphere, humanity fighting for just one more day, the hopelessness you could practically taste radiating off each moment.... You're telling me this was all solved just like that? Huh? The author forced a GN on this one, by all means it didn't make sense for it to end well...

It was also to the end never explained why ML sticks to his codex (the interests of humanity take precedent over all else) so much, or why he joined the trial court, or why MC was so attached to his spore (speaking of, I love goal oriented MCs even if the goal doesn't make sense, as long as they want it bad. Now tell me why MC got a taste of empathy for ML's sad backstory and all of a sudden he leaves his OWN ambitions, that he's been chasing since the beginning, and let's the base have his spore?! The spore we chased... Across the continent???? The same spore we had every major conflict over? Just like that? Okay. Okay.) The side pairings also felt forced 😊 I did literally not need to know about Hubbard and Tang Lan. It would've been the same story without them.

Lastly. I felt that luck played too big a factor in the ending, as well as throughout the novel. I'm not fond of this type of novel where the author overuses coincidences to make the GN possible. I'm telling you, how is this even a GN... (Baffled)

We didn't even find An Ze's cave. I really wanted to see An Ze again but alas.

Perhaps I'm being too harsh though. The writing style is good and so is the translation, and plot. It's hard to even find that much these days, in the copy-paste bl novels. I was surprised and delighted to find this one was very unique and the plot was very original and enjoyable. Unfortunately the ending fell very, very flat for me, and a lot of the things promised earlier on (relationship between ML/MC, end of the world, the explanation for the distortions, the spore's maturity...) were not well delivered, or disappointed me.

All in all a decent read! I wouldn't exactly recommend it, maybe my expectations were too high because of the excessive hype.... <<less

Five Star!!

Recommended!

The plot never drags, always engaging and well the world is ending, literally. It's dawn of evolution and human race is forced to evolve but they resist and refuse. Humans refuse to go gentle into that good night. Humans insist to stay the same and to keep their DNA pure. They were mislead to think that to be human is to keep their DNA pure and maintain their body non infected by other creatures. Because their science tells them that once their DNA is infected, they will lose their... more>> oncsciousness and logical thought and succumbed to the instinct of the infecting creature.

But is that what humanity means? Is that what being human means? Because Human's science is failing. The universe changes the law of science and forcing the earth to follow the new rules. The planet, animals and plants who doesn't have higher thinking follows. Only humans resist and they pay the consequences for their arrogance.

An Zhe is a mushroom but he is also a human. He learns about humanity from the many humans he interacts with and tries to live as a human with humanity value. He never wants to harm any humans. All he want is just to take back his spore and raise it into maturity. That's all. Whatever happens to the humans is not his concern but he will try to help anyone if he could. <<less

Little Mushroom: Judgment Day

Little Mushroom: Judgment Day is set in a post apocalyptic dystopian world in the year 2020, when Earth's magnetic poles vanished, and cosmic radiation nearly eradicated humankind. Over the next century, creatures mutated and preyed upon each other, while the remaining humans clung to their man-made shelters. In the Abyss, home to the mutated xenogenics, there lived a sentient little mushroom. Nourished by the blood and flesh of the deceased human An Ze (blood contamination), it assumed a similar human form and a name: An Zhe.

Due to... more>> unknown human who harvested his spore (protecting its spore is a mushroom's sole purpose in life), An Zhe is now determined to retrieve it so he ventures to the human base. Left and right - people are dying and/or getting infected. An Zhe is faced with constant peril as he needs to keep his non-human nature hidden from the Judges (tasked with identifying and eliminating Xenogenics) and find his stolen spore. Amon the Judges, there is Colonel Lu Feng - the most astute and merciless executioner. Yet An Zhe's mutation eluded Lu Feng's scrutiny, setting the stage for a gripping tale of humans and Xenogenics..

The cover (look up both books) may fool you with its cutie patootie illustration as the story is nothing but pain.

Cover: 🥰✨😇 / Inside: ☠️🩸💀

I haven't read anything like this before. The world-building and writing is amazing! Even though I'm not a science person, I couldn't put this novel down. An Zhe is such a lovely, adorable, soft yet in his own way strong and determined character. He doesn't truly grasp human emotions, motives and unwavering drive to survive. He's basically a spectator. Yet, throughout his journey he unexpectedly forms attachments towards some humans. Especially towards our ML - Lu Feng. His burden as Colonel, is anything but light. His predecessors, worn down by the weight of their responsibilities, succumbed to madness or worse. Yet he persists. Tirelessly safeguarding humanity.. But once he meets An Zhe, things start to change. Perception shifts.. (Also, he likes to tease An Zhe hehe).

Ugh, this is very dark yet angsty and cute ✨balance✨

p.s. Now I understand why this work was nominated for the Chinese Nebula Awards ^_^

I see why it's so popular. The worldbuilding and plot are more important than the romance, but the MC and ML have plenty of satisfying interactions throughout the novel. It's fascinating watching humanity's struggle to survive in a well-written dystopian world, as well as the growth of the MC as he observes human behavior and develops new emotions. I really like how science is incorporated into the novel; it's interesting if you understand but doesn't hinder the experience if you don't. Angsty at times, but HE. Honestly this is one of my favourite novels and I had just randomly read it over the weekend last year because it's pretty short as well just under 100 chapters.

The world building is done in a way that keeps the readers interested and I think how its written from An Zhe's perspective is really well done in showing how he sees and understands things differently than humans do as he's originally a simple organism and how he tries to explain this to Lu Feng later.

Their romance is really cute as... more>> well and really supportive and there really is no downside to this novel. (I mean unless you don't really like the sort of apocalypse sci-fi setting that it's set in.) Really the only part that could be is near the end
