Betrayed like a dog and left for dead, I made a contract with a mysterious being. Thanks to that, I survived. But there’s just one problem… my body feels a little… no, very weird.

Whenever I read a book where the main character willingly signs a contract with an obviously suspicious being, I never find even a hint of pity when they end up losing their humanity. In fact, I feel spite towards them. "What exactly were they thinking when they agreed to give up their free will for living? Did you really think that you could maintain your dignity? Once you lose your right to yourself, you lose everything attached to yourself, including your dignity. Why are you so incapable of comprehending the... more>> fact that you are no longer entitled to anything. You've already given them your ability to choose. You are now their s*ave... not even that. You're their tool now." Irritating protagonist whining and complaining about what they signed up for. If you hate it so much, why don't you just die? <<less

I understand James's view of the protagonist being naive. It's common sense for a modern person to carefully read any contract that requires them to sign it, or else you might find yourself suddenly drowning in unpaid overtime and difficulty finding new jobs. I understand that our protagonist needs a roof over their head and a better future, but she doesn't have anyone else to blame other than herself.

Other than that, I find the story intriguing, and it's pretty fun watching her growth. There are some discrepancies, though, as I... more>> still don't understand why she (a slime) would evolve into a magical girl and not use iconic slime skills (like tent**les, absorbing and mimicking other life forms etc..). I feel like this is definitely a light and fun read, but lacking in some comprehensiveness and combat creativity. <<less
