Professor System has issued a mission: to rescue the gentle, kind and tragic protagonist shou of the novel “The Exceptional Furnace”.

Song ‘Scholar-Tyrant’ Qingshi: “Don’t worry, Professor! I can definitely ensure the patient’s recovery!”

In the Immortal Realm:

Song Qingshi praised from the bottom of his heart: “My patient is the kindest and most beautiful little angel in the world.”

Yue Wuhuan quietly washed the blood from his hands and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi swore from the bottom of his heart: “As a doctor, I will never covet nor take advantage of my beautiful patient!”

Yue Wuhuan took full and complete advantage of the doctor and smiled softly: “En.”

Song Qingshi affirmed from the bottom of his heart: “Under my loving care, the patient will never be blackened!”

Yue Wuhuan secretly hid his monstrously evil thoughts and smiled softly: “En.”

At that inextinguishable summit, upon thousand and thousands of soul lamps, he sat on the god’s throne of white bone, guarding that piece of stone.

“You are the only one in this world who treats me tenderly.”

“And so, you are the only one I treat tenderly.”

Scholar-tyrant Song was absolutely delighted: “Professor! Can I get full marks?”

Professor System exploded: “You fool! You saved the wrong person!”

Unexpected really good...

The ML got the depth he deserved and you really feel for him as a character. His history is absolutely tragic but he never turns into the type that takes advantage of or manipulates the MC.

And I really liked how the story explored the ML’s trauma:

Spoiler

The years of ab*se and torment as a s*x s*ave and its subsequent consequences on the ML’s emotional and mental wellbeing are portrayed. The shame, hatred towards himself and his tormentors, violent thoughts and s*xual urges are all manifestations of his trauma and that cannot be easily fixed or undone. He views himself as this “dirty” thing that can potentially sully the MC by being near him ;-;

[collapse]

The MC tries his very best to help the ML and is very respectful of his boundaries. It’s a sweet dynamic with a dash of angst due to the ML’s lack of self-worth. I’m looking forward to seeing him in a healthier state. <<less

This story is worth a read however I felt distressed for the ml.

Spoiler

He was forced to suffer so much. He totally doesn't deserve this. And moreover what was that shitty book. There are no morals in the world. It could be a major fault of the book.

And you can't just make MC go into coma for 10 yrs without any warning.

However the 2nd ML is kinda funny but he truly deserve a good beating

The story: It's all about the MC healing the ML who went through terrible things. I've learned a lot about diseases and therapy because the MC worked in pharmaceuticals in his first life and he uses a lot of his modern knowledge to find ways to heal the ML. He's also really bad at psychology, so you can really see him struggle to find a way to give the ML the therapy he needs. The MC has depth to his characters and also some flaws, but he pushes past his... more>> shortcomings to help the ML.

Positive: The translation quality is excellent, the MC is interesting to read about (unlike many bland MCs) and the premise is really good. I'm hooked.

Negative: This story might not be for everyone, as some of the ab*se the ML has gone through can be hard to read about for the faint of heart, but if you don't mind such things, then the rest is really heart-warming and touching.

Gripe: The name of the story is misleading. The ML is not a villain, he's a canon fodder that would have died after 2-3 scenes, something for the protagonist, a new s*ave, to see and realize what's in store for him. When the MC saves the ML, the ML slowly becomes yandere and villain-like, but he wasn't a villain in the original story our MC transmigrated into. So I am a bit annoyed with the false advertising in the title, but I understand it's because less people would have clicked on the story if it said 'canon fodder' instead. <<less

A beautiful romance that starts off as a wild mesh of timelines and eventually unravels neatly. Every little fork in the path ties back to the story later.

All in all, very cute couple, well-fleshed out world, would read again.

Very beautiful love story with plenty of interesting themes! The story goes from being transmigration, to being xianxia, to being really really high fantasy--just when you think you know where the story is going to go, bam, plot twist! The plot twists are very well-crafted and feel earned, too, with buildup that can be appreciated especially with a reread, though not necessary.

The romance is the heart of the story, and the author really puts their all into making you spend time with the couple. The couple of the story are... more>> really the focal point, and this is executed very well, since pretty much every scene has them either interacting or thinking of each other. Devotion and selfless love come into play a lot.

The love interest Yue Wuhuan is very very possessive, which is acknowledged both by the characters and the text. I thought that the way it handled his trauma and healing was very thoughtful and done with care. The story has many dark themes, but successfully highlights the importance of healing for one's own sake. <<less

My first time writing an early review~

I'm currently reading chapter 18 but I'm already very engrossed in the storyline. I love the author's clever way of mixing the modern medical technique with the ancient one. It brings kind of new breeze of wind, since it's my first time finding this type of novel.

It reminds me of one Chinese drama in which the MC was actually a person from modern era but was then born into a royal family in the ancient era (some of you might know the title of... more>> the C-drama since it's quite popular I think).

The MC, though a little bit naïve, he was a unique character and wasn't a foolish person. He was intelligent and hard-working, yet probably due to his healthy environment in his past life, his sense of danger was a bit low haha~ I would love to have him as a brother or good buddy in real life. As for the ML, I just want to give him a tight hug but also wanted to send him for professional psychological help. I'm deadly serious. <<less

Spoiler

I really like how the MC isn't clueless in the story. If you have ever read Peerless Immortal Surrounded by Demon Disciples, you'll know what I mean (The MC is completely clueless). The MC is fully aware that the ML has mental health issues and yet he still cares about him. That in turn affected the ML, making him possessive but very caring of MC. The ML would do anything just to be with the MC, even slaughtering people and starting wars.

Spoiler

It made me sooo happy after Song Qingshi dies and gets reborn that Wuhuan actually cross-dresses like a girl... that was so funny. 🤣

Spoiler

I also love the ending. It was one of the biggest plot twist I've ever read in my life and I did NOT see it coming. To know that Song Qingshi was a rock that transformed into a human was very interesting. When it got to the part that Song Qingshi was reincarnated 1, 350 times just to save Wuhuan made me sob. The part where Song Qingshi misses Wuhuan and cries also made me cry.

Overall, this book definitely made my list of 'Books I want to erase from my mind just so I read it again.' If you stick with the book through its entire length, I promise you, you'll love it. <<less

It was a really nice novel, it was funny, cute, and even though some of the arcs were dark, the author still managed to write it in a way that made you want to keep reading until everything was resolved. I'm glad I stuck with it and finished the novel, cuz it all made sense in the end. ^_^

A solid 4.5 stars, rather than a breath-taking, soul crushing novel, I’d say it’s a very refreshing read.

Right, there are so many overused common tropes in the Danmei industry.. And the author pretty much asked anyone who couldn’t accept something new and fresh to get out. Respectfully. I for one dislike these cliche tropes so I avoid reading novels that have em so the ‘refreshing’ factor wasn’t too refreshing for me.. But it’s sure to be a breathe of fresh air.

Characters:

Song Qingshi: Our MC, my cutie little thing. I’ll... more>> have to admit, the interactions and development of qingshi and wuhuan is a bit cliche, with qingshi being a little smart, just over average with negative EQ and Wuhuan being a genius topping it off with emotional intelligence. However, what makes Qingshi so special is his diligence and effort, he’s such a sweetheart.

Yue Wuhuan: I absolutely love his inner monologues, they were so well done, his hatred, his greed, his disgust- everything spun together in a centrifuge to give us a Yue Wuhuan.. He’s so lovely.

An Long: Personally, I feel like the character of An long was much more richer than Wuhuan’s, or perhaps it’s that angst craving heart of mine.. Either way he was so loud and interesting, I really wished we had more of him.

Plot:

This is where you lose me, contrary to the other commenters, I actually preferred the first half of the book a lot more. I’m sure many here have read KOD and you must be aware of the side stories, I personally found them okay, and similarly I find MISVIL okay too, I felt like we should’ve stopped at a certain point because after we reach a certain threshold, the flavor of what you’ve eaten previously is lost. For that reason I’ll confidently say, this isn’t really a story about healing or finding yourself, it’s actually more of ‘breaking cliches’ itself. But I won’t reduce the rating because for that purpose.. It really does fulfill.

Romance:

Like I said above, it’s very fate-focused, I personally think it could’ve been executed a lot better. I believe the scenes with An Long and Qingshi were much more heart-wrenching. Wuhuan is heart-wrenching, but their interactions were pretty.. Okay, I feel like we needed a lot more time with them, a lot more confusion and a lot more doubt, fundamentally, I find that connection to be quite thin between them. It’s easy to say I’ll wait 800 years for you, but only you and I know how much Hua cheng and Xie lian went through. If I were to describe it.. It feels like I was promised a sweet candy but I accidentally swallowed it whole. Don’t get me wrong, using the concept of ‘fate’, it does make sense.. But in my opinion following the kind of flavor of romance this offers, stories like ‘After marrying the evil God’ are much much better despite following a similar idea.

To conclude.. I think it’s a good, well-written story overall but I feel the emotional and self development was lacking in the end, (I mean, have you read evil as humans??!) Most of my tears were shed for An Long 233..

Personal: 2/5 Overall: 4.5/5 <<less

I love this novel so much, I recommend it to people who like a ton of angst and interesting plots. I like how the author doesn't just push aside the MC and ml's trauma and act like it never existed, its actually addressed and explained. The side cp is also really cute, it was satisfying how everything came together when I reread it a couple of times, the foreshadowing is crazy🙏

I tried twice to finish reading this story and better understand the characters. What came out of these unsuccessful (and not very pleasant) attempts.

1. The author really loves angst. ML is the most tragic creature in the world of mortals and immortals, as well as demons. Every page will tell you how he was sexually ab*sed. This is probably the most important thing in the character and plot of the novel.

2. After reading so much about ML's s*xual ab*se and numerous humiliations, you must be expecting some kind of reaction... more>> from him. Appropriate revenge, triumph of justice, etc. But nothing happens. Really, ML and MC are helpless, and the world around them is chaotic and drowning in depravity. ML takes petty revenge on one or the other, but this does not change anything in the end.

3. ML's character doesn't seem capable of growth. It seems that the author is only interested in his suffering, and not in his development. The same applies to the plot.

4. What to do with a character if, from a logical point of view, it is almost impossible to help him and return him to normal life? After all, he was so diligently destroyed over a number of chapters. - That's right, make him a god! After all, if you are a god, then the past must not be so important, isn't it? This is such a “Deus ex machina”. And this is so logical.

Unfortunately, the novel left an unpleasant impression. <<less

After reading and reading, I grew tired of the MC's cluelessness. The first few chapters were interesting, and the MC made progress in the story, but as it went on, I became frustrated with his cluelessness. The plot is good, and I like the ML; it's just the MC that bothers me.

Seriously, you won't regret reading it. It has a pretty gripping story line that keeps you interested but not so heavy that you loose connection from the world to singlehandedly focus on completing this novel. But you will definitely re- read this once you're done. And it will give you a sense of being fulfilled since almost all plot points are good details that have valid importance in the plot

I am quite happily marking this as 5/5 stards. The story is well-rounded with a cute protagonist. In some places it gets a tad convoluted and at one point I did drop it half-way through while it was updating to compile chapters. At the time, it wasn't a story that I felt the compulsive need to keep up with way that I kept up with like Heroic Death System or ones Feng Yu Jiu Tian or Mo Dao Zu Shi, but it is a well thought out story that has... more>> key aspects that line up and fall into place later in the story. In a way, you can definitely tell the author had a goal in mind and a set ending when she wrote it rather than like some very... very.. very convoluted shonen style wuxias. Looking at you Against the Gods. You're a favourite, but your author must've been broke becuase no story needs to be over a thousand chapters.

It contains a lot of reference to dubcon and if you have triggers regarding non-con, this would be one to stay away from. If you don't have those kinds of triggers, it explores the concept of deep devotion (to the point of s*upidity), second chance, revenge and forgiving one's past that makes the story quite compelling. The main character has a really strange character where he OOCs mutliple times. He's portrayed as this super clean character at the start, but also doesn't seem to have qualms with killing or the protagonist killing. I get it, but mate, he's a doctor. He's no saint, but he still took the hippocratic oath to do no harm. No one should be able to go from giving that oath to supporting mu*der within several chapters. You can't be a smary sue and also a black lotus at the same time. Even if it's all explained later, the difference is a tad jarring.

I appreciate that the trauma the gong goes through is valid, real and continues throughout the entire story rather than being an afterthought. He's got strong character flaws which makes for a great character, but its just a bit overboard some times. I suppose that's why there is still a good balance of comedy and plot. <<less

4.5/5

TW: r*pe/ s*xual assault, mental health issues, attempted su*cide

Before I reached the end, I already decided to give this danmei a solid 4 stars. But the last there or four chapters, that explanation at the end about where everything started? That deserves a 4.5 stars!! Still not quite a 5 stars, but almost!!

I've already read quite a few transmigration novels and most of them didn't bother giving an explanation as to why and how the transmigration happened. I have nothing against those novels because I enjoyed most of... more>> them and not that it bothered me, I still liked the flow of the plot regardless. But this novel coming back around at the end, making even the tiniest details make sense is what made me give this another half a star rating!!

I actually want to list some of the things that seemed one thing but in reality, they weren't just that simple. THESE ARE A LITTLE BIT SPOILER-Y:

    • I was actually not a big fan of love triangles because of so many reasons, and I didn't realize this novel also has one. I thought it was a bit unnecessary, that the plot can still do without it. But it was revealed that the second love interest's existence served an entirely different purpose than just being the love rival, and I loved that so much!
    • There are a lot of reviews from NU about not wanting to finish this because they said that the MC is too 's*upid'. Song Qingshi is not really s*upid as they say, he's actually very smart, but his intelligence is mostly focused on his specific field, especially in medicine. He is more like having a very low EQ, not really good at picking up social cues, very ignorant to the things that doesn't concern his work and he didn't really know how to deal with people. He has social anxiety (and usually stutters when talking to other people, except when talking about his medicines) and that drew the line between him and the outside world. Because of that, he seemed very slow in the head. He's very naive and gullible most of the time. But that part of him actually has an unexpected explanation that those SQS haters didn't get to know because they chose to drop this novel halfway because of the reason that the MC is too 's*upid'.
    • And for someone with a very low EQ and not good with words, Song Qingshi can sometimes deliver the most beautiful lines:
You once wished me good luck for the night and now, I want to wish you good luck your entire life.

Song Qingshi gently placed his palm on his chest and said gently, "Wuhuan, your heart is sick" Yue Wuhuan bowed his head and asked, "My heart?" His heartbeat was speeding up. His body was burning hot, as if it was calling out to something. Song Qingshi raised his head. "Does it hurt every day?" Yue Wuhuan looked at him for a long time, and finally nodded. "It hurts" Song Qingshi took him into his arms, patted him and comforted him softly, "Don't be afraid. I'll hurt with you"

"Don't give up and don't persuade me to give up either. I have the world's most stubborn heart, even if I hit a wall thousands of times, ten thousands of times, I will never look back. If you really can't bear the pain and despair and decide to abandon this world, then I will accompany you"

    • Song Qingshi's love for watching the clouds as a hobby. It seemed like something the author would randomly threw as the MC's pastime, especially as a loner, but there's more to it than that.
    • All the dreams about the phoenix. We all know who that phoenix is, and that there's something important about the dreams, but once the significance of those dreams was revealed, re-reading those dreams makes so much sense.
    • The ML Yue Wuhuan has an special attachment with different stones, especially the beautiful ones. His hobby of collecting stones is tied to his real identity and after knowing his identity, it revealed why he has a natural affinity with Song Qingshi. And that actually makes my heart so soft!
    • The MC saying that 'my heart is born for you' to the ML, you might think it's only for romantic appeal? NO!! There's a deeper meaning to that!!
    • The ML also has a yandere personality that some of the readers didn't really like but just so you know, he's the type of yandere that knows his own boundaries and limitations. He is self-aware. He might be the best yandere that I've read in a while that never forced himself to the MC. And his yandere personality didn't just come out of nowhere either. You might say that his yandere personality comes from his trauma, but him trying to control his possessiveness so that he wouldn't suffocate the MC is also making his mental health issues more severe, hence the stalemate.
There are a lot more, but I won't list all of them. You can pick this up if you want to learn more. Just know that:

This novel certainly has some heavy topics. Trigger warnings are there for a reason. There are chapters that are really hard to read. Fortunately if a chapter gets really heavy with trigger warnings, the translator has this note at the start of that specific chapter that provided a summary of it so you can choose to skip it without losing the importance of that chapter. I personally read the whole chapters so I know how heavy it got sometimes, so proceed with caution if you plan on reading this.

Thinking back about how this novel started, I was surprised how much the plot grew from just a simple transmigration to something much more than that. I never expected all of it to happen just from the first few chapters and I loved where the plot took me. <<less

This novel was so good, the characters are super well written and lovable. The MC is super cute and I love the way each character is able to grow throughout the novel.

Everyone dropping it before reading to the end won't realize that there is a reason for the way each character acts, and I gotta say, the ending of this novel was super satisfying.

I also loved the way the author is able to portray sensitive topics such as SA and mental health, so many scenes left me in a puddle... more>> of tears TT. <<less

4 stars.

Normally, I disliked possessive, yandere-style characters but this novel really handles the Ml's possessiveness and trauma very well.

The mutual devotion of the main ship is beautiful, and both their characters are given equal development and time to shine. The side characters are all unique and enjoyable too.

There are many twists in this novel, I'll advise you to read without looking at spoilers.

I only have some minor quibbles, which is why one star was deducted.

Spoiler

The ending sort of cancels out Yue Wuhuan's suffering and tragic past. I understand it was for the twist, but I still don't really like it. An Long's character also felt underutilised, I wish we could have seen more of him.

[collapse]

The translation is of good quality and very readable, many thanks to the translator for their efforts, and also for the footnotes that really helped.

Finally, I rec Misvil to you if you like stories about trauma recovery, where mental illness is taken seriously, mutual love and devotion, and character development. Although the beginning is dark and it gets tragic at times, overall it is a very sweet and beautiful story, with lots of humour. <<less

Hoooly crap, this novel is amazing.

This was a whole roller coaster ride and you can tell the novel was very well planned and weaved together to make an amazing tapestry of emotion and heart.

I've never met an MC as cute as SQS. He warms my heart all the way through.

... more>> But the reason I give this a 5++ stars is the process in which MC takes to not only heal the physical wounds but also the emotional and mental wounds of the ML (despite not understanding emotions himself) was incredible.

Other novels tend to treat trauma like a half-withered plant, just water it with kindness and sunshine and it'll be good as new, but this novel doesn't. It also shows that improper 'help' can often re-traumatize. And that healing is not linear--sometimes the heart takes a step back before taking 2 steps forward, over and over again. This was the first time I've read a novel and felt that it helped my own healing journey progress just a little bit as I watched the ML go through his.

The author also makes use of the side characters as the 'right' types of foils to the ML. They each go through their own trials and traumas, some of them similar to the ML, but the way they come out of (or fall further into) their depression and despair really ground you into the fact that humans can be resilient or so fragile and where ML really stands in comparison.

And the ending message that, though one person/event can be a catalyst for healing, big credit goes to the butterfly effect creating a wealth of community and relationships or circumstances to fuel that healing. So damn good!

Is it perfect? No. Is it insensitive in certain areas? Sure, but it does a better job than most.

The translations were also fantastic and, man, I just feel so blessed to have read this. <<less
