One of my absolute favorite book so far, It's quite a romantic story where the protagonist acts as the villain with his overbearing attitude to push away people to keep them safe but fails in the end.

It's honestly hard to dislike the story itself, but reading it is somewhat frustating yet exciting.

Update is slow but each chapter is long so I'm one to anticipate the wait.

I'm just an amateur reader so for professional insights refer to others.

its a really good story, and if I could, I would give this a 4.5

the first two arcs are very very well done and a joy to read, but the third arc is a little iffy. We have a cliff hanger and then suddenly there's an abrupt shift in background characters and working for the enemy. It's a little jarring, especially since it was so good before. Edit: I have finished reading all the available chapters and honestly? I take it back! I love this story, it is truly one... more>> of my favorites and I adore it. While there are still faults it's very enjoyable. MC can come off as overpowered very easily but it's amusing to see his friends almost regard him as a tsundere lol. <<less

Heart-throb!

The MC was an adult that suddenly became a child who had followed the bad example of his parent. No matter how he tried, he couldn't speak his mind and his tongue became sharp and rude. I felt that he was cute and honest rather than feeling disgust about him. Everything he said was true and actually I thought the same as him.

I don't know anything about the love development. Even though, clearly, he had admirers... Only a girl tried to be his love interest while the other was deeply... more>> in hurt. The other admirers were males because he was strong and reliable.

He was not an Overpowered character. He didn't always win but his brain racked for strategy for him to win. It was exciting to see battle development and friendship development from it.

Everything about this story was heart-throb.
Spoiler

I didn't like the love interests though because she was acting as if she knew his pains. What she does was just for her own selfish that thought what she does was right when it just brought more trouble for him. Nothing personal, I just think that she was s*upid. The MC deserved someone like a duke lady or princess with cold or elegant demeanor that could supported him from behind silently without taking any credit for it. Just like he did for the other people.

[collapse]

Translator-san was doing a great job translating. I was not hindered while reading. Author did a great job creating twisted plot. I think his mind and personality are twisted too. <<less

A lot of people have given this glowing reviews. And I am giving it 4 stars for the moment. The plot hasn't progressed to the point where I can say the work overall would be good or bad. It is, however, unique and interesting.

There are many things to like about this novel. It is very well-written for one. The problems the MC faces are interesting and help develop his character well. Also, unlike most novels where the problems are treated as black boxes that can be solved with a little... more>> bit of fighting from the MC using his special cheat ability, our MC here has to use his brains and plan things properly to pull things off successfully. Though not to the extent of some other novels on this site, this LN captures some of the political tension that accompanies a noble, some of the adventurous spirit of a demon-lord slaying novel and shows some elements of a harem. Despite being so ambitious and using so many tropes, this novel balances them well and delivers a solid plot.

Moreover, the prose style really captures the thought processes of the MC and shows his hard work and training properly. There is no inexplicable hero power-up here. On the contrary, this novel has us seeing things from the antagonist's POV. This makes it all the more interesting because he is a really strong character in the game and his determination and hidden compassion make a big impression upon people and inspire confidence in him. This makes it all the more fun to read.

However, I also have some issues with the novel. Though they are not too troublesome right now, they could spoil the story later on.
Spoiler

For one, I am not too pleased how the MC does not have control over his mouth. I could understand if the author made the MC speak this way because he realized that he could not change his character too much lest it be discovered by people around him and make trouble for him. However, his inability to speak well even if he wants to is not nice.

[collapse]

Additionally, the MC has serious issues bringing closure to the events in his life. While the people on the receiving end sincerely seem to appreciate his compassion despite his foul-mouthed exterior, the MC himself makes little effort to embrace such relationships.

Spoiler

For example, in Volume I, he never got around to speaking much with his parents or building a new relationship with them. In Vol II, he never makes a good connection with his fiance. In Vol III, he does not respond even a little to the goodwill of the heroine. Though I really did like his fight with the hero.

[collapse]

I think the MC really ought to build better relationships with people here instead of just giving up o himself as a lost cause. The novel seems to encompass a lot of events to come and the longer it gets, the less believable it is that the people around him can endure his boisterous nature. Yes, he might sometimes show compassion, but spurning someone endlessly will eventually cause them to get tired of spending time with you. I wish this could somehow get fixed. I think there is a huge chance for character development here if the author plays his cards right. I think the novel also needs better world-development. There seems to be wars and insurrections bubbling on the surface of this story and the MC needs to carefully skirt around these problems and establish a future with a good end for himself. Therefore, it is necessary for the author to show us, on a map, or describe the world around the MC. So far, we know of four areas, though none of them are described very well. I don't need anything fantastic with Lord of the rings level detailed world creation. Just a shout out to the currency of the are and its value for example, of the international agreements in place to fight the demons, of the extent of the MC's family land, the level of industrialization, or of the development of magic in the land. I understand the MC is OP, but please show me people he can be compared to, people whom he can learn from etc. The novel is good without these (I did give it 4 stars), but these things would make things much more interesting.

So, in the end I recommend that everyone read this novel. It is good, seriously. However, it is still in its nascent stages and thee are some low-level problems that should be fixed soon or the novel will start getting repetitious and less believable. <<less

One of my favorites so far. The translator does a good job with the translation. Easy to understand with fine grammar and word choice. The story is nicely unique with good character development and setting. I really liked the situations the MC gets himself involved in, and more than not I find myself grinning. The misunderstandings in the story (I find) are more realistic. The story is good at balancing the comedy and more serious side to keep things interesting. In my obvious opinion it's a great story.

Very interesting despite the common storyline.

What’s unique is that fact that the MC has a rude speech problem which is pretty funny because of the problems he encounters due to it. ? 5 stars~~~

This is one of the better j novels out there~

As of Ch.21.

The MC suddenly finds himself possessing the body of a hated villain from a game that he had played. Knowing that the game character is heading down the path of ruin, he decides to tweak and nudge events to prevent his own death.

Unlike other similar stories whereby the MC is proactive and sets out to immediately change his or her fate, Hirasawa Kazuki/Harold Stokes is far more cautious and restrained. His only advantage is that he knows the future events as played out in the game. However, if... more>> he deviates too far from the path or make drastic changes not covered within the confines of the game, then his advantage would be lost as he would be heading into an unknown future route. I personally find his caution and worry to be excessive. Understandable, but strange. It’s like traveling to the past with a history text book: if you made big changes, your book will be useless and you will be uncertain of the future. Once the reader understands this line of reasoning, the rest of the story flows a little more easily.

It’s a very logical way of thinking, but a reader can easily get exasperated by the MC’s behavior and rude speech. It’s like reading the inner working of a tsundere character, even the MC knows his attitude is irritating and too harsh; having somewhat good intentions and yet forced to use abusive language and roundabout methods to achieve his goals. His coarse language is almost a running gag: the MC regrets its usage and yet unable to truly prevent it from spontaneously spewing from his mouth.

In a way, the MC reminds me of the famous Japanese warlord Oda Nobunaga who behaved erratically and infamous for his eccentricities in his youth to hide his deep thoughts and unorthodox ideas.

The story is a little more expansive than other titles as it acknowledges that a game world’s setting would inevitably have details missing or merely implied, resulting in the MC being surprised when an unknown element crops up. The other characters are developed as well, especially the female lead. However we don’t really know much about the game world as yet, as much of the 20 chapters thus far are quite localized. The pacing is a little slow as the author fleshes out the scenes and emotions, but the translation is good and thus it is not a chore to read.

Interesting, will read more. <<less

The author makes many excuses that make the MC’s life harder under the guise of two things:

1. He can’t control his speech and always says things harshly

2. He has to make his life as close to the story of the game he knows as possible or the world is doomed.

I already got annoyed with the first reason but got over it. However the second reason just becomes more and more far fetched. Even deep into the story where the MC has changed too many things to match up with the... more>> game’s story he will still f*ck over almost all his personal relationships while using the excuse of having to get the story right. It’s very idiotic and quite frankly very unpleasant to read thru. Makes some chapters hard to read as the MC would rather ruin everything for himself than change the narrative he thinks is “supposed” to happen.

Idk just feels like half the novel is blamed on “I had to do it to make sure the story flows how I remember it” and “I had to say it because my mouth always says harsh words” it gets old when you realize the story is being dictated by these two rules. It just starts to feel like the main character has endless excuses to why he has to make his own life miserable while pushing away pretty much any source of happiness that gets close to him. It wants to give like an antihero vibe but it’s done very very poorly in my opinion.

I guess in a sense our MC’s thought process gets tiring to read through as he jumps through hoops to justify why he has to make himself a miserable loner. If I wanted a story with this many misunderstandings I would’ve prefer to read a drama/romance manga not this frustrating shit. Main character is supposed to be in his 20s mentally but his people skills is very much teenage like. The more I read the more frustrated I get. I was reading before bed and just got so frustrated reading this it actually woke me up. I don’t know why this is so highly rated. Literally almost every time the MC is presented with an opportunity to clear up a misunderstanding he makes up some convoluted reason why it’s better for him not to. <<less

really deserves to be called a masterpiece by the majority of people. It's isekai, true, but for the most part I think it's shounen manga written in novels, of course there's something special about that. That point of view is told from a villain who knows the destruction of the world and his own death, that's the big picture. For those of you who have read stories with the same theme, namely the death flag and are quite interested in exploring that theme, you should read this. Several stories such... more>> as Kanojo Flag, My Nextlive as Villain, and other death flags disappointed me quite a bit in presenting the theme. Kanojo flag started well but it ended with a harem route which they hoped was a fresh route. Meanwhile, My Next Villain is pretty good overall, but I don't care about S2 because the story is just everyday life. Meanwhile, this is a story that fulfills all my expectations regarding the Death Flag theme, MC must organize all events to continue on track so that the world is not destroyed because of the kindness of his heart as a modern person, but with all these advantages, breaking the death flag is still impossible for him, the other characters continue to misinterpret Harold's actions even though there is a little bit of truth, it still backfires for MC (Harold) because his plans really deviate far, and the thing I like most about this story is. Even though it looks like the world revolves around the MC, but if you look deeper, the world fills in the blanks of the game plot (which is almost the theme of the whole story) seeing the MC really struggling because it is a fresh feeling for me (I'm not a sadist, I'm right - really wanted this story to have a happy ending) Unlike Subaru from Re Zero, Harold (MC) only had one chance, there were no repetitions, and the unknown punishment for failure made MC and even me who read it scared. Even now, the origin of why MC is in that world has not been told (which is what determines all his actions in the series, trying his best not to get involved as deeply as possible with the world) and one more thing. If people say Jujutsu kaisen is the new gen of shounen manga, that title should be given to this story. The story is completely indulgent for the shonen genre with no annoying dialogue unrelated to the state of the series. The dialogue of each character is really like the story we want to hear from each character. And if this reminds you of Overlord, don't worry, the MC is very different in that his actions don't just sit back and follow the flow, he coolly makes his own way, also unlike the eminence in shadow who looks like a children's playground. Harold (mc) largely created the entire foundation of the story here, even without the help of a writer. Yes, as certain people say, if someone says it's good, it means it's good. Although not all of them. <<less

This one is actually good. Reincarnating into a game as a villain.

The romance aspect is good too. I mean there's no romance but the tension b/w the characters gives utmost joy. Also, the protagonist doesn't go for harem.

Edit: I feel like we're taking the wrong road.

Yes it's been an amazing ride for me but I don't want it to go harem way

Will contain some spoilers so read at your own risk.

The only thing this story has going for it is the premise - a young noble whose parents are extra gung-ho about pure-bloodedness where the MC knows how the plot should progress, and instinctively speaks like the previous body owner.

Sounds fairly generic when I write it out like this actually. The title is about avoiding death flags, but from the story he has read he only dies near the end to the 'Last Boss' so I can't see where these supposed... more>> death flags are. This was the start of my gripes. And after we get past the prologue everything seems to fall apart.

Suddenly the main thing to do is making a new farming method popular. Kind of random, but okay. We're also hinted at how strong the real antagonist was, so the MC with his body should be strong too etc, but it gets glossed over, as any real training the MC does is try to use his magic skills how he envisions them. Also, he almost loses to a side character who got mentioned in the story the MC read maybe as a one-liner.

Then comes the fiancee arc, and everything comes crashing down, because the author obviously couldn't handle writing about an MC who other people view unfavorably on. A few tears from the MC's fiancee was all it took to get one of the 3 confidants to divulge the secret of how the MC didn't actually burn a mother and daughter to nothing, but had them leave the Stokes territory and that everything she thought of the MC is a terrible misunderstanding.

I felt like I saw the chart of bitcoin dropping after Elon's tweet in my mind's eye about where the story's headed.

And then it devolves into whatever wasn't already generic so far. Author obviously had no idea what he wanted to write about, since he wrote of everything while also writing about nothing, since the main story motivation was forgotten in a heartbeat. This story is so all over the place I'm having a hard time actually figuring out what the worst parts are, because it's all so bad. <<less

Erika is sh*t.

Spoiler

Erika is the typical Yamato Nadeshiko character (boring as ever), she will live to fulfill her duty for her people and family, end up engaged with Harold and fall in love after find out that he is a good boy. This flip a switch and turn her into goes full Vegeta to Goku or Sasuke to Naruto mode expect being useful for him.

Harold make preparations to cancel the engagement, various things, nothing help, even after Harold make public his will to cancel the engagement, Erika dad says nothing and keep procrastinating, her brother say that not gonna accept this as the next leader of Sumeragi's, Harold parents be no means want to break that and everyone around keep teasing about that crap.

The only thing they talk about is the damn engagement, when in Sumeragi's territory is the only subject of speak, in other places every time someone find a way to throw this on Harold. The plot, the sub-characters the main ones, their roles is to keep talking about that, you can bear a few times but in the 100th time this happen your eyes are already spinning, its disgusting.

She knows Harold don't want her around and nor do or say anything. You can say she never was useful once but problems we have: the usual unwanted presence and she already fight and attacked Harold, given him a five days bedridden (on a 6x1 match, Harold 'win' escaping with 4 KO's), ultimately she is having some yandere tendencies.

She lives in a spiral of self-pity, since can't reach Harold and be useful, you can say everything but is all just justification, she had only done it to satisfy herself all of this is a tentative to force the reader's sympathy towards Erika and don't forget the 'I Want My Beloved to Be Happy" trope, ffs.

The entire plot is driven to bring them together, everyone is working to do this, is pretty obvious the final, mere-exposure effect is there for ya! The problem is it's nonexistent a second love interest (for now Lifa is just for put some pressure into Erika, nothing more, need a lot of screen time and development to be considerate a rival in equal terms). The 'romantic times' are uncomfortable, unnatural, out-of-place and not really necessary.

Hm, while I can keep it forever, my only problem with this novel is Erika she lower the overall score, even when she is not in the scene the others characters keep talking about her, unlike harems, here if the female love interest get on your nerves everything goes to sh*t.

One of best isekai novels I have come to know. MC is unique and I like it. It is not the type of isekai where MC is too op from begining or has any cheat kind of ability or girls where they just fall from him the moment they saw him. The relationship between characters are presented well. Female lead characters are developed well and I have no problem if it turn out a harem type.

People tend to give it low star after seeing the chapter 1 or a few.... more>> I mean they can't take tragic MC but it is not lile the MC is in complete despair or saddness. You should read all the chapters. People need to understand that that's the beauty of this novel. So read it and support the manga at twitter okay. DO NOT JUDGE THIS NOVEL FROM READING FEW CHAPTER OR BECAUSE OF LITTILE TRAGIC. THIS IS PRETTY GOOD ONE AND FAR BEETER THAN THE MANY OTHER ISEKAI NOVELS AND DESERVE TO GET ANIME.

Spoiler

MC try to stay in the world according to the story as he is in constant fear of risking the world or huminity because of his mistakes. He can not just risk everything just because he knows the future, there are more various factos here. And I would like to see its anime version as well.

At this point I can safely say that the author is just simply prolonging the series needlessly. It was worth a read at the beginning but the MC is just plain s*upid considering he had derailed almost all the main plot of the "game" he played and he still considers the entire thing is a game while all the people surrounding him are alive and breathing. Worse is the fact that the MC still thinks it is still going according to the plot and basically is pushing away everyone including... more>> the FMC. And don't even get me started on the FMC. She was good at the beginning, thinking that even if the entire world stands against the MC, she would stand with him. But now, she's just a s*upid, emotionless coward who doesn't even tell the MC that she loves him. And don't get me even started on his so called friends. At the beginning, they all trusted him and followed him but just from one s*upid thing, they are suddenly against him. Overall, I feel that the author hopefully resolves the issues with the series and ends it soon cause I feel it's too drawn out and may end up bland. And hopefully the MC ends up with FMC <<less

The MC is pyscho!! He only thinks in terms of flags!! This flag, that flag etc..

The MC is the biggest idiot of the story. Idiot Number 1, he basically psychologically damages his fiancee due to his attitude towards her. And why he hurts her (psychologically) ?? Because of flags!! Yeah for our MC!!

The FMC Erica is the 2nd biggest idiot. She loves the MC BUT She keeps pretending to hate the MC bcz MC wants her to hate him!! She never questions why MC wants her to hate him?? She... more>> doesn't try to clear the misunderstandings bcz MC doesn't wants to!!

She basically changes her whole personality for MC's sake but the MC doesn't know anything about that. There are 2 reasons:

1.) MC is dense.

2.) FMC is an idiot.

And in this process, she is broken down psychologically. Completely Broken!! She loses all her emotions.

Apart from this, MC manipulates each and every one of his friends for 8 years so that the story progresses according to flags!!

At this point I am pretty sure, there should be a tragedy tag on this novel. <<less

Makes me yawn!

& MC dual-persona frustrates me.

Basically MC turns inside of a game character which is considered 'tr*sh' to many players.

... more>> This 'tr*sh' character which always to abusive words to people around him.

Now we have a 'good samaritan MC that only exist on a monologue because every time he speaks it's gonna translate into abusive language. Even while people around him knows he's a good person it's not enough to make me feel better.

The problem is probably because there is no 'Comedy' on it to look forward. (Tag contains 'comedy' but so far I never found any joke on it)

Side characters didn't help either, they just exist to admire the MC on the shadow.

That's it! It's just gonna revolve to that scenario. <<less

why he is always trying to not change the plot? Why he can't just go and kill doctor? Especially when he become his subordinate. It is said that this will not stop the process. And what? 90% problems he faces is because of the doctor. Also why he joined knight order? It basically tied his hands and made him super famous - how does it help him. Why instead of this he can't go get more exp, better armor, train heroes party etc. They would finish story 2 times faster this way. hates him lol. The major problem of this novel is how hard the trope of "tragic hero" is pushed. I believe the author pushes this factor too hard into our faces, also the ending looks potentially messy since it looks hard to tie up together perfectly. Luckily, I love the tragic hero trope.
