One of the few novels that could make me laugh out loud XD usually I just grin but this one is gold.

I like how MC is not entirely powerless and could solve problems by himself.

My only dissatisfaction is there isn't any sexy time at all _ (;3/ it is so river-crabbed that I almost cannot recognise any attempts to be sexy _ (;3/

It’s cute, it’s amazing, it’s got a good story, and it’s funny as hickety hecc. Just please read it, , , I put off homework for it, I read it in school, I binged this book and I love it. 10/10 would read again. It’s hilarious!

Nice reading and I enjoyed it though I wish they have more of the mains moments.....

Not too long for me too. I cannot handle long books due to my attention span.

This is my first review on Novel Updates, but probably close to my 100th C-Novel read. A lot of which I have read more than one time.

I definitely have my favorites, but have never felt the need to add a review in the past, mostly becuase they seemed to get enough attention without me doing anything. However while reading this story I couldn't stop the thought that for once, I was going to have to leave a review. If only because...

Shang Que is probably one of the cutest ML I... more>> have encountered in a BL, or in most stories really! The best part about it is, it's not that cringe worthy fluffy cute that you encounter so often. There is no urge to reach out and ruffle his hair or pat his head. His cute is completely and adorably exasperating. All you can really do is shake your head and smile at his antics.

Namely his constant scamming for red envelopes so he can buy more in game products to boost his horrible gaming level.

I enjoyed that it wasn't just a fluffy story of ghosts and romance, the author still managed to work in some drama and left you feeling a tad bit anxious at times for the next chapter. I also appreciate that while the story didn't completely ignore the resistance same s*x couples face, it didn't rake you over the coals to deal with it either.

Once our MC and ML decided there was no one else for them they embraced their relationship and each other tightly refusing to slow down or look back!

I'm sure you have read the other reviews as well so I won't go into a long drawn out explanation of the story, plot and characters. This story might not be for everyone, but if you are looking for a fresh take on the afterlife, a plot line that doesn't take itself too seriously, mixed with some familiar ghost stories, and a very sweet and decisive love story, I think you should give this a try! Did I mention?

Okay this had to be the funnest book I've read in a while. I picked up this book to read between chapters of another book that while fluffy was turning repetitive and brainless. And boy am I glad I did, it was hilarious and endearing. I loved it, the characters were fleshed out and the world building was superb. They do the best to intergrade the supernatural with the technological. Like having musical deities debut as idols, hiring the dead from the relevant fields but also outsource to humans, creating... more>> jobs that the ghosts can make an income for themselves to supplement their afterlife. It was wonderful to see people willing to accept it without becoming a dangerous fanatic and actually try to adapt to using technology themselves.

Be warned there is a slight horror element to it. It is a book featuring ghosts and demons after all. But the author makes it into a light comedic moment really quick. Yes the characters are a bit OP but they also know when to look for help whether it be human or ghost. Honestly their biggest strength is the connections they made, I don't think they would have gotten as far without them. Many time it was the key to the solution. The other characters are well thought, they grow as people and have reoccurring roles, there are very few one off/flat characters.

It's low & slow on the romance and there isn't any papapa, this is Shounen Ai instead we get storytelling 😂 there was an initial misunderstanding over who had feelings first but it makes it clear that they will get together despite the obvious obstacle of ghost/human relationship. ML is a bit immature but knows when to be serious, he's very casual about material goods (well until he realized what was considered requirements for a good spouse choice 😝) but very sincere, his actions speak for himself. MC is great too. Smart guy, forward, doesn't let things get to him, adaptable. He balances ML but is also helped by him because ML makes him think in ways he never would have.

they have a daughter who is a spirit they rescued, she is so adorable I love her. She reincarnated as an intelligent goose and honestly it fit her (goose are little demons) she eventually becomes human thanks to endearing a lot of people to her which boosted her cultivation. The father - daughter scene was so fluffy & fun. She's a good girl you'll love her too!

I wanted to give around 4.5 to 4.7. It was a satisfying reading. All the supporting characters are very good and engaging. Especially various ghosts who are very loyal to both ML and MC. Unique plot I mean when you are trying to modernize the hell it becomes unique. Romance between zhengdu and shang que also somewhat unique and ML is very respective towards MC something I admire the most. He puts great trust in his lover over anything. Also the humor was really really good.

Sometimes I felt like author... more>> describe somethings little too much and same thing over few chapters. That's what I saw as a weakness. <<less

A really enjoyable read with sufficient amount of romance and enough comedy to keep you entertained throughout the whole story. I really like how the MC and the ML fits each other like glove and both of them are great at what they do. Would have given this story a 4.5 because there is something in this story that I don't quite understand but even without it I was still able to enjoy the ride. Totally recommended.

Loved this novel and the translation is brilliant as well. The story is steeped in reincarnation/supernatural mythology and religious lore, but executed in an incredibly funny, charming and interesting way. It's hilarious how the story will be scary one moment, and then transition seamlessly into comedy. As someone who is afraid to read horror novels, this type of writing suits me best. :D

The writer did an amazing job melding technology with supernatural. Some very clever and innovative moments here in the entire novel. It made the story even more interesting,... more>> in my opinion. I also love the 'episodic' nature of the novel, where they encounter and resolve individual cases as the story develops, but that there's also an interesting, overarching serious plot. There are also some really touching moments when the stories touch upon life/death/family, and I shed a tear at one point of the story.

The romance is also very, very adorable. I don't think I've encountered a MC and ML quite like these two. The ML is hilariously cute, which I think is a very funny take on what the usual cool, domineering CEO MLs (he only appears that way on the surface level but he's really not a cool, domineering CEO ML). The MC applies modern science to everything, but he's not at all a cold, logical machine type of character. He's funny and warm and easily goes with the flow, just that he'll also apply technology to influence how the flow goes. :P

I didn't find that there was too much face-slapping (one of the complaints). There's the occasional face-slapping but it's pretty light, mainly because the MC and ML have more important things to worry about! All these silly side characters bouncing around don't get that much attention because the main characters have important work to do to keep the reincarnation cycle going smoothly.

All in all, one of the best novels I've read. The translator should be highly praised as well. There were so much to explain and so many parts which I think must have been difficult to translate but the translator did an excellent job with the translation and with just the right amount of footnotes with explanations. <<less

This novel is amazing. I love how the author translating the world of the dead and the living and all the details of rituals and rites. It’s so informative because we also recognise and some, practice those. I love how the author combine the old world view and transform them or more specifically the traditional ways can be upgrade to keep up with the modern time. And it’s should be so.

But the most endearing are the cute cp. The ML aka ghost king are the cutest tsun tsun (and... more>> very petty too) around. Our MC is an op badass programmer with full head of hair! Every chapter was so cute and funny. The tsundare level of SQ is so over its give you a different kind of diabetes.. This novel is worth every minute to read! PLEASE READ THIS BOOK!! I made an account just to write a review for this novel, and I've read a ton of other books on here before. (This review may contain small spoilers, so if you don't want any spoilers at all, don't continue reading)

PLOT/WRITING: 5/5 This story is hilarious and so so funny! There are mini humorous plot twists everywhere where the plot develops in a completely and hilariously different way than expected because of how OP the ML and MC are. The OP ness doesn't affect or... more>> ruin the novel at all, and in my opinion it's one of the reasons why the novel is so good! The plot itself is really interesting, imagining a modern life with ghost and Chinese culture and how the MC uses modern technology with ghosts. There's a perfect mix of light-hearted moments with the occasional intense and moving scenes.

MC/ML RELATIONSHIP: 5/5. They are a true power couple, no one overpowers the other or tries to overpower the other. The relationship is built on mutual respect and love. The ML is a really powerful ghost king who is adorably in love with the MC, and the MC is a tech genius with many creative and brilliant ideas. They're both incredible at making money when they put the effort in. The MC and ML's relationship develops in a very realistic and endearing way with tons of sweet moments and slight jealousy from ML (but never in a toxic or mean way to the MC, in fact, even when the ML is in a bad mood and angry at the MC, he can't help but always give in and act nice the MC.) The ML would never do anything to hurt the MC, and the MC would never do anything to hurt the ML.

When the ML learned that the MC didn't like him back at one point, he didn't force the MC to like him and he didn't do anything bad to the MC. He was sad and acted a bit childish in saying that he didn't like the MC back either (but the MC could clearly tell that was a lie and the ML was just covering up). The ML is so adorable!!!

Waiting for the two to get together wasn't too frustrating, as they acted in a mature way based on their own feelings. I'm especially really pleased about how the MC didn't just have a set mindset that he's straight, even though before meeting the ML he never had any gay tendencies before. Instead the MC genuinely took the time to examine his true feelings about how he felt for the ML, and discovered that he did indeed like the ML. There is no toxic-ness at all between the two and they care and love each other SO MUCH.

CHARACTERS: 5/5 The main character, Yu Zhengdu, and the main lead, Shang Que, are so well written. Shang Que the ML is such an adorable and slightly immature character when it comes to his crush on Yu Zhengdu. He's incredibly badass when he needs to be, but also a lazy video game addict. Yu Zhengdu is more rational and calm than Shang Que a lot of the time, sometimes the only rational mind in a world of craziness, but he's also really indulging of Shang Que and really amused and in love with him.

The side characters are also really memorable and I love them! Their interactions are so hilarious, especially around the MC and ML.

IN CONCLUSION, PLEASE READ THIS BOOK! My tastes usually lean more towards angst and tragedy, but the humor in this book and the sweet fluff interactions really got to me and I love this book so much now! :) <<less

Wasn't expecting this to be so good! I was kinda eh at the beginning, but I grew to appreciate how dorky the ML is and how charming the MC is. Like, their personalities aren't the most exciting, but they feel real.

The worldbuilding is great~! It's a great supernatural/modern world novel, and I really liked how the author used technology with the supernatural aspects.

The faceslapping wasn't overdone either. Nothing really went wrong for the characters, but I appreciate that MC was clever and ML OP. They felt pretty equal.

I can’t say it enough, I’m in love with everyone from the ghost company and mc’s friends...

I like it so much, the plot, the MC and ml, the side characters, the romance.. they’re amazing???????

Sure mc’s op but, BUT, HIS PERSONALITY AND THE STORY IS JUST THAT DAMN GOOD THAT HIM BEING OP ACTUALLY IS THE DRIVING FORCE AND EXECUTED THE ARCS SO BEAUTIFULLY

The romance is yes slowburn, but their interactions are funny and so so friendly even from the beginning, and following even when it wasn’t even a bud, you... more>> can tell that somehow MC does have a soft spot for ML even tho he doesn’t realize it and the romance isnt even rushed?????? I finished reading last year but I forgot to rate it. Our MC is very funny, he connects the supernatural to scientific things. To be honest it is more like a slice of life story and very relaxed, conflict is quite common but I love stories like this. Our ML is (briefly, I forget), what is god? He's addicted to games hahaha.

Understandably, this novel contain supernatural elements so science isn't exactly the prime driving force behind the plot, but sometimes the technology that MC invents doesn't make any sense. Apparently, with only modern programming skills and a mobile phone, the MC was able to create a program (on his phone!) that could scan a person to display their under-worldly energy. How does a normal phone detect under-worldly energy by scanning someone through the phone camera? How does that same phone then use the under-worldly energy to show you what the ghost looks like when you open the phone camera app? Nothing is explained. Yes, we all know that in a world filled with ghosts, we can't exactly expect a scientific explanation for everything, but that was just too nonsensical.

Additionally, the author (like many Chinese authors, so this review isn't actually only for this specific novel) fancies over-exaggerated face-slapping. It's done for comedic purposes, but sometimes it gets annoying when you realize that it doesn't fit the seriousness of the situation. For example, when MC and ML catches an evil Daoist practitioner who had engaged in practice that involved cutting a fetus out of its mother to make an evil spirit, the evil Daoist gets so scared of the ML that he decided to call the police on himself. When the police arrives, he's super thankful to the police and clings onto the officer and sobs. Now, this is just a no-go in my book, because instead of actually taking the situation seriously, the author decided to use it as a lighthearted banter.

Love it, Peppa is so cute. ❤ Glad that MC didn't turn out to be some super powered person in his last life as is often a trope in these stories.

The way MC and ML got together was hilarious. Definitely a solid read.
