Comedy done well, however it does turn very sad sometimes.
Spoiler

i really like Chung-Myung as a character. He's someone who hides behind a happy facade, while incessantly blaming himself for the things he wasn't able to do (even when it's not his fault). Throughout the novel, he begins to grow, as he begins to trust people.

[collapse]

and I find the characterization of one of the villains extremely interesting,

I came after reading the manhwa which had surprised me by how engaging it was (go check it out I think it’s better than the novel).

The novel is fine, and I will keep reading it, but it’s not the best thing ever. The writing itself is a bit poor, there’s a lot of « gossip dialogue » where people who have nothing to do with the story give us a rundown on how the crowd reacts to events, and whenever the MC Chung Myung does something there’s at least four... more>> people who exclaim a variation of « shocking!!! ». These aren’t uncommon in Asian novels of this type but it can get tiring to read as it breaks the pacing. Ironically it works great in manhwa format as the tiny dialogues of background characters. In fact I felt as if I was reading the script for the webtoon sometimes instead of a novel. It does occasionally get a few tears out of me, and lots of silly smiles too which is a plus, it just doesn’t do it as well as it could. So not the worst, but not great either.

What I do love about this story is that the struggle is believable despite Chung Myung being OP. He wants to revive his sect and it’s not as simple as him being strong and leading them. While the plot does tend to end in his favor (it is that kind of story) it feels as if it’s because he’s always looking for every opportunity to help his sect rather than because the author is making it that way. To the MC every new person he meets or situation he’s in is to be used to build a stable future for Mount Hua or cast out of the way of Mount Hua. And this is not a role he is comfortable with, in fact the way he goes about it is often unnecessarily complicated and involves at least one fight (it’s that kind of story) and a few half truths, the reason it works is because he knows that for stability he needs to make sure the other side gets something they need too. Because he’s focused on strengthening his sect he makes leaps of logic that others take time to reach and it’s a believable struggle.

Another thing I like is his approach to revenge, in his first life he was absolutely the kind to take revenge immediately, and he definitely wants to in his new life. But he’s very clear that it isn’t his goal or purpose. Oh he takes the opportunities when he can, but he’s also avoided them a few times when the outcome wouldn’t be advantageous for his sect, and that’s rare in OP MCs.

In conclusion it’s a good story (translation is good too though the writing style isn’t my taste that’s not the TLs fault). I recommend checking it out, but I completely understand why some people wouldn’t like it, and I do think it’s a bit overrated as a novel.

Definitely look for the manhwa though, much better format for this story and it’s beautifully made, I can tell those who made it were amongst those who loved the source material and they did an amazing job. They were able to draw out the subtleties of the characters feelings constantly which gives a lot of depth where the novel only occasionally succeeds. <<less

I thought it was quite charming when I picked it up all the way back when only a few hundred chapters were translated.

Chung Myung and his show of dedication towards Mount Hua is phenomenal. You could say that Chung Myung, before his reincarnation was the definition of an arrogant, talented young master type martial arts practitioner. Everyone in the Mount Hua sect looked after him since he always got into trouble. And the transformation the maturation that he basically has to go through in order to restore the prestige his... more>> sect hundreds of years later. How could you stay bone-headed once you witness the state of the derelict and impoverished Mount Hua sect, partly due to the actions you did hundreds of years ago? To witness children that diligently train in the sect despite losing the pathway towards their signature moves?

Overall, Chung Myung clearly carries the novel. Yes, there are other characters that react to Chung Myung, and they're not bad. Jo gul, Baek Cheon, and the rest of the disciples that Chung Myung lead and nurture are decent, but obviously Chung Myung's the clear main character where his development alters the entire story.

However, it does get repetitive. Once you go 500+, you get past the impoverished phase of Mount Hua and more towards restoration. It does get a bit tiring once you realize that the only thing that's going to happen is Chung Myung killing demonic cultivators or something for the next 1000 chapters.

The comedy is fun, but translation is rough around the edges. Still, the formulaic structure of Chung Myung leading the disciples to yet another adventure and killing demonic disciples while Chung Myung is unabashedly face-slapping a bunch of people definitely gets repetitive. If other characters were less of an ornament to Chung Myung maybe it'd be better. Dropped. <<less

This novel is a must-read for anyone who enjoys a blend of humor, well-developed characters, and immersive world-building. The main character's wild personality keeps things entertaining, and the supporting cast is equally memorable, each with their own growth and significance. Even the villains are compelling, with their own dreams and ambitions. The world is rich and detailed, with unique sects and unexplored mysteries that keep the story engaging. The novel’s tone is light and playful but can shift to deliver epic, serious moments. The fights are intense and meaningful, adding... more>> depth to the characters' strength and motivations. Overall, this novel is a fantastic read that I highly recommend. <<less

Comedy is there

MC is not ruthless, at least not at start.

He is childish, whole plot is light hearted

... more>> i was expecting it to be ruthless, idk why, maybe cuz someone said its no romance and ruthless MC.

Feel like I am reading Douluo Dalu, grown up MC who is childish now supporting people around him and going on a good walk (journey of plot armor)

I don't like it, feel like a book for newbies honestly. Anyway don't go on this review or rating, thats just my personal opinion. I wanted to rate it 0, but book is not bad so I end up giving 3/5 even though its not the type I lilke.

Only thing I will say to you is, Its not some heartless ruthless guy out for revenge or something or even ruthless.
Its comedic in nature, and light hearted. Supporting people left and right and going with the wind.

Ruthless actions? Rationality? Pragmatic? Since MC is adult, should he act like adult?

So you will not find it here. Best comparison I can think is, Douluo Dalu (my first novel, so enjoyed it. Now I just have so many complaints so many years later, that I can't read such plot ever, so my opinion is simply based on the fact that I expected this novel to be something else, which it isn't) <<less

It's pretty nice for a Korean Murim novel. The early parts of the novel before the protagonist started his first step in reviving Mount Hua was awful though. It took me significant effort to continue reading the novel while the MC repetitively lamented over how Mount Hua was fallen at least 5 times a chapter. Thankfully, the novel quickly improved in quality since then, and it's been enjoyable seeing the MC's journey in reviving his sect and learning more about himself and his martial arts in the process.

Some people may... more>> not like how the protagonist of this novel really tends to think with his heart over his brain, contrary to the stereotypical cold-blooded Korean MC. The MC has multiple incidents of almost throwing his second life away for the most ridiculous of reasons, such as dying from voluntarily climbing a cliff or dying from voluntarily using too much internal qi in a non-life or death situation. On top of that, the novel also just sometimes brings up a plot point just to never mention it again (or take way too many chapters to do so). The author also tends to like skipping past minor details, such as the various characters' cultivation level. However, these aren't that hard to look past, and so overall, I think this novel is worth reading if you like the Murim genre. <<less

One of the bestest novel I've ever read. Chung Myung (the MC) feels like a human, not some generic cold OP robot that doesn't have a personality. He is well written as much as the other characters that are linked with the MC. The emotions are well driven and the progress are observed really well. The MC is also someone who does not only focus on himself but for the sake of his own sect as well. I honestly cried, laugh, got mad, and sympathize with the characters since the... more>> sorrow, the backstory, their thoughts are well delivered. It's such a fun novel to read. Highly recommended. <<less

I want to put this as the number one martial arts Kor novel I read.

There's comedy but not too much. MC knows when he needs to be serious. Support characters are there and engaging.

No annoying, useless romantic plot.

I still wonder why no english publishers take this one.

They deserve it, what the used when they already set it not to be full star, can only be 4 and a half. So I will put it myself ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐, 😛

As someone who really love fight and comedy, these one is the best, firstly it have no romance, so if you type to read these for romance then don't read. ... more>>

The MC is hilarious, I just can't stop thinking of what he have done to his company, they change that someone think they look like a mountain bandit, really love baek cheon, haha always get bully, being a senior is not easy. Not forget our new character which is I call brainless from shaolin Hye Yeon, why the f*ck he come to mount hua sect, haha a monk live with a bandit🤣 that is when he will corrupt. Don't forgot our elders, Hyun Jong is my favorite even though got corrupt from MC he still on his hold😂. The tragic of these story really hit especially when MC remember his past, their sacrifice and what they got, still remember when hyun jong ask is MC think him as a mount hua sect eldest cause MC don't want to hear his order, when MC want to take revenge on what happen to unam (which he has lost conscious and got hand cut)

Over all, these novel storyline is really good, it was so funny. I really like MC and the aide character, how he f*ck up others sect and their enemy... Bop Jeong he always lost something... <<less

I really love this novel, including the manhwa too. The MC isn’t s*upid, he’s very clever & has a quite a bit of a temper too but he doesn’t go around beating people up (he only does it when you provoke him & he’ll also school you on your skills on top of it too lmao).

I dunno why some people are complaining about the novel or the MC not being “too ruthless”. Maybe they’re expecting Chung myung to go on a killing spree to satisfy their desire I guess 🤷🏽‍♀️.

CM... more>> IS ruthless & very cunning but at the same time he DOES use his head. He knows when to step in & when to use wits. At first he does everything but as time goes by, he lets the other disciples help or let them figure things out.

There are many funny moments but also sad moments too, it shows that CM isn’t THAT heartless cos there’re a few he REALLY treasures & considers as a friend or family (from his previous life).

But yeah, he’s STILL bursting heads tho, don’t get it twisted lmao. I’m still reading but put it on pause or else I’ll be able to catch up in no time lol, so I’ll probably wait til it hit around chp 1900. <<less

The beginning of this novel is promising, but as the story progresses, it becomes bogged down in endless discussions about each character’s personal philosophy, without any real direction. The villain, who could have been defeated dozens of times, repeatedly escapes to massacre thousands of innocents, all in the name of “staying on the righteous path.” This villain is portrayed as being smarter than everyone else, and somehow, the others always fall into his traps.

In summary, it’s a novel that starts off well, but dedicating 5 or 6 chapters to explain... more>> and justify a single action, just to convince the reader, becomes tedious and pointless. After chapter 900, the quality declines even further. The author seems to lack an understanding of the art of war or human psychology, and by trying to justify the absurd actions of the characters over dozens of chapters, they only create confusion and a sense of inconsistency. <<less

I'm leaving a comment so that I can pick up where I left of. I'm not leaving because I got bored of this novel or so what. I can't understand why there's so many people hating on this novel where I find this so realistic. I find solace and undescribable emotions while reading this, this became my comfort novel. I've read the manhwa of this hoping to pass some time but this story hooked me to the point that it broke my body clock. Mind you, whenever I started to... more>> feel sleepy I can not fight it and just sleep without me knowing when did I really fall asleep. But this novel made me fight the urge to sleep for the first time since pandemic!!! It also made me cry on my way to school. I do not recommend reading this in public.

The world building is undeniably well-written. This is the best novel I ever read as of now. The reason I've stopped reading was because I got spoiled on Twitter and because of curiosity, I clicked on the novel spoiler :) and that leads to me to the tragedy part of the novel :))))))) I will make sure to read the tags also before reading a story. I've been avoiding reading a tragedy novel since I'm a busy person and when I get emotional, I tend to forget everything around me and just focus on my sorrows, that's a little exaggerated but somehow in some ways, it's true. I will come back in December to finish my unfinished business here.

I recommend this story 9999999 trillion times but this novel is not for the weak hearted, I'm weak hearted but this novel is worth to try betting on again to wake my dormant reader self.

I will see to it, until the end where the return of Mount Hua will be in full bloom. I will see you again, my love. <<less

Incredible novel. The writing is amazing and each chapter gets you hooked and attached to the series. One thing that bothers me most is the pacing. It's like one piece pacing, at least similar to it. Its really slow but can also be fast at the same time. To be honest this novel could've just ended at around 1500 chapters but I believe it could go even farther than that with the pacing. Probably will end by 3000 chapters. Gonna stop reading for now because I'm not that patient tbh,... more>> and even worse, the manhwa will finish in like 20 years. Novel is fantastic, the comedy, character depth, world building, the antagonists, everything about it is incredibly amazing. Only downside is the pacing. Too long for me. <<less

I really love this novel. But the chapters isn’t always the best,

Spoiler

the war arc is not only focusing on Chungmyung’s POV and Jang Il-so always seems several steps ahead from Chungmyung. Honestly, I would love it if the author can focus more on Chungmyung. I don’t know how to explain it properly but it gets me dizzy that the author has to explain every tiny details about everyone, even the side character which will die anyway at the same chapter. I started reading the novel because of Mount Hua and Chungmyung but the author is focusing too much on others. There is too much characters on the novel. Even the reminiscing of the past of a not so important side character. The author will write 5-6 episodes which will not even mention Chungmyung or what they’re up to now.

Sometimes I feel like skipping a chapter but I still like the writing and the ideas of the author. I appreciate them a lot. I know how difficult it is to write a novel like this. <<less

If anyone searching for Reincarnation, Cultivation and OP MC, this is the novel but I kinda like novel that have System, OP MC, Reincarnation, cultivation/leveling and martial arts but somehow, I don't this novel.

In short summary, MC reincarnation with all his memories and techniques except for his cultivation (basically, every reincarnation lost his cultivation/level so, it normal). As MC already know all the techniques, his spend most of his times to train his fellow Mount Hua Sect disciple because the sect become ridiculously weak.

What I think it not interesting is... more>> that this novel, Author NEVER show MC CULTIVATION or GROW. We never know his cultivation realm the whole times.. We donno any character cultivation level or how to see the MC grow/progress to getting stronger. Even after his close training indoor, Author never bother to showcase how much MC grow.

MC already know all the technique and it not like MC learn any stronger martial technique, but still keep using the same technique and cultivation as his past life. No upgrade al all.. It getting boring the more the story go on..

Basically, you will just see this novel is about the Mount Hua Sect as MC rather than individual.. Of course the person who reincarnated that increasing Mount Hua Sect fame and strength but you will never see Author love on this individual.. As I said, this novel is about Mount Hua Sect that grow stronger rather than the person reincarnated. Not sure if you like this type of novel, but you can just read it until you guys find it boring.. The novel kinda interesting at the beginning.. You can see the wiki for this novel, but you can never find this MC cultivation level. A novel about cultivation but no cultivation level introduction or not even mention about it. You just keep read this novel without knowing anyone level/strength. I kinda hard to gaging anyone strength when there a fight.. Author show no guide in cultivation level/grow at all.. <<less

One of the best webnovels I've read. The story is well-written and engaging, and makes you empathize with, not only the MC, but even with the supporting and side characters.

I laughed when they're being silly, rooted for the characters when they faced a great enemy, and felt the same grief, sadness, and regret with the characters.

It's the perfect mix of humour, exhilirating fights, and emotional moments.

The MC is a well-written, and, subjectively, a very likeable character. His goals and objectives develop over time, along with his character and mind set,... more>> which I honestly haven't seen in other similar novels, or at least not as well. He begins with the goal of becoming stronger, then eventually evolves into making his sect stronger, and so on.

The way he solves problems also feel highly rewarding; his charisma, quick-wit, and strength are used in such a satisfying way.

And what tops it all off, is that despite the mc's outstanding strength, he still felt human. He has flaws, insecurities, and shortcomings that felt real.

The side characters are well-written as well, they are memorable, and actually felt like they're their own person, and not just some cannon fodder for the MC to collect/beat up. Their personality and goals develop and change over time, in such a well-paced and satisfying way.

And, SPOILERS FOR AROUND CHAPTER 180++

Spoiler

It's, so far, one of the only regressor (?) /reincarnation stories that I've seen that makes the MC's past life important. It's written in a way that made me feel regret and longing for what the MC had, and could have done in his previous life. It also made me mourn and miss the important people in the MC's previous life.

[collapse]

I think the only gripe I have with it are the sections that sometimes feel stretched out, or unnecessary. But that's understandable, considering it's an ongoing webnovel.

Apart from that, I absolutely recommend reading it. It's complete with an engaging storyline, memorable characters, and emotional developments that really makes you feel the feels. <<less

English is my second language so forgive any mistakes

I love this novel very very much I came here because of webtoon

I used to get booked up to every series before I read this novel but... in short this novel raised my standards Lol

... more>> People don't read the reviews which rating I don't like their reviews at all.

What are they saying? It's only trust me I am on c678 and it's has serious moments which makes it seems like it wasn't making crackling like a villian a while ago

And it's also has sad moments which make me cry so much sobing in a corner

People are saying they have problem with everyone praising the MC but who can't?

What would you say to a baby who suddenly solved a high class math problem everyone couldn't? Cherish him of course that's how his achievements in murim world are. f*ck the bad reviews.

Chung myung (MC) is type of a guy that doesn't need protagonist title but the title protagonist needs him he is smart yet dumbest person you'd ever discover AND I guarantee nobody can beat him argument because all he knows is true facts and bullsh*t

But in later chapters people make Chung myung have seizures and foam at mouth LOL it's so hilarious our grandpa though he's only batsh*t crazy about but met another one crazier than him

His conscience = -25% (goes -20% to -10% to +15%) what you thought he wouldn't have development

And other characters- oh how I wish I had friends like them in real life...

Anyways I ranted

You'll not regret this I am telling you the author builds up hype as easy as breathing he doesn't use action to build up hype but the way with words and stories/plot

And when there action it's good but when Chung myung steps up it's more exciting

Magyo shall be eliminated

And with one human garbag- I mean- ahem a character

Spoiler

That character's name is jang IIso with chapter I am on he didn't fight much but whenever he is mentioned or appears the- the-

I don't know how to describe but whenever he there the atmosphere is..

Read for yourself! Or I'll spoil the fun for at starting it's not that hyping but...

And Shaolin bangjang and heavenly demon (tf he still mysterious but he's described so scary and powerful)

In this novel the author did just justice to name 'cultists' to point of describing them as fanatics which they should be oh how I like it they are not every wuxia cultists they are real fanatics

[collapse]

The elders- they are so- I don't know how to summarise them but they are very hardworking and it's a miracle without any financial support they had kept sect open and it was not closed already and keeping 100 disciplines healthy oh how it's miracle.

And let me tell you one thing Chung myung makes everyone go crazy and make them scream out of frustration crazy how in the past his sahyung- well almost spoiled- anyways if I met a person like him- no if there is a person like him on earth (there shouldn't be or we're doomed) well..

10/10

It's my first time review on anything so I don't know..I just ranted what I like (only one 0.1%)

I would like write more... it's so good.. <<less
