I have absolutely nothing bad to say about the novel itself. It never feels like I'm reading filler and the pacing isn't too fast or too slow. It's been a thoroughly enjoyable read so far.

The only reason I didn't rate this a 5/5 is because at a certain point the translation quality started to get progressively worse. At first the translation quality was great, I had zero complaints. Sadly though at the chapter I'm currently reading (c416), the translation quality is far worse then it was to begin with.

While it is still absolutely readable and far better then edited MTL, it is definitely bad enough that it's lowered the enjoyment of the novel and honestly lowers the quality of the novel as a whole. Thus I could only give it a 4/5 even though this novel when translated well is probably my favorite.

Edit: Translation quality has reached an all time low as of chapter 500. It's to the point where it's actively ruining the authors work. If you're okay with MTL then it's fine but if you want anything more then I no longer recommend this. TL;DR Great novel with good translation for first 200 chapters. Translation gets worse until it's terrible at chapter 500. <<less

5 stars. Reason? Simple, in the vast world of Korean novels (specifically Korean Novels) finding something that reads this good without ruining a novel is very, I mean, very hard. I started reading this novel when I found out the manhwa version of this. Love it. I am loving it!!!! I finished the season 1 of Manhwa and can't get enough of our Mount Hua Sect peeps as well as Chung Myung and his gangs crazy adventures. You'll laugh, enjoy every dialogues, fight scenes are superb and you'll definitely shed tears. Over all, this series is definitely worth reading it!

I'm sure there are many other better reviews explaining how good the novel is, but I'm simply sharing my insight on it as well.

If you like op mc's and a story that you can understand without it being too comedic or too serious, this is for you. Highly recommended! I like the MC and how the writer described him and his personality - he's brash, uncouth, a total bandit, but he has his adult/mature/responsible moments. The interactions between the disciples and the elders were hilarious. I just find the number of chapters daunting (and it's still ongoing!), but since I'm enjoying the story, it's all good.

One observation/comment, there's a lot of dialogue (vocal or internal) in the story, and sometimes it gets confusing on who's talking or saying what or thinking what. Not sure if it's the... more>> Korean language structure and that's just how the translation come out... <<less

I would recommend this for anyone who likes Kn novels and experienced readers who enjoy action, fight scenes alot because they are very well written, there's no skipping and are detailed both for the opponents and protagonists. As for romance there's none, if looking for romance it's better not to read, whether romance or 18+ scenes there's none, and no arranged marriages or engagements.

The... more>> Protagonist, Chung Myung reincarnates a 100 years later with his memories only to realise that his sect has fallen, not completely but it's barely hanging, he's outraged and seems to blame himself because in his past life he was a well known sword man from the sect and he fought together with his sect to defeat the heavenly demon, resulting in a massacre of his sect. But now those who actually were left were taken advantaged off leading to a decline so he blames himself for not surviving to help those who were left.

The first 400 or 500 chapters are basically him trying to pick uo the sect, he becomes very much aware of the personality of the sect leader and it's clear that he is a righteous person and not like the 9 sects who are righteous yet still hypocrites, he dislikes this but nit the sect leader, even the members are just people welding the name mount hua with nothing to show off. He begins training them, helps them make money. Nothing much, overall it's all sect building, making allies and all. Now with what I've read so far, now at c1109. The cons for this novel

• The 5 characters who are close to him in the sect always want to coddle him, if the sect leader stops MC from fighting he sulks (lol) or feels down to earth these 5 will stand afar and make jokes about his nasty personality and whether he's gonna disobey. It's a repetitive joke and it's sometimes untimely.
• MC has to constantly explain to them to leave the 9 sects alone because they will never ever help them, they didn't before he arrived so why would they now. But the sect leader is too good, he never listens and has hope (it's a good thing but it irked me alot especially since they were now independent and had their own allies and were capable of even handling the 9 sects, it's already been a 1000 chapters and despite the constant fights, insults he still has hope (this happens many times and it's only once we see him agree and that's at the tournament)
• Also Talking, the characters talk too much, they can have a meeting for 5 chapters, then complain for another 5. MC has to constantly (not an exaggeration) remind them or change their ignorant views on matters.
• Mount hua is similar to a sheltered person really, they are absolutely ignorant and a bit naive, hence the long chapters we get that have MC explain some philosophy and mindsets idk if author is explaining to readers or they get carried away.
• You can hate and like a character in just one chapter because authors writing style is unpredictable. It's as if they want to make you angry then appease Yoh as a reader so you don't drop it. I've come to dislike the sect leader many times, together with the 5 dragons whom are supposed to be on MC side but for people close to him they are easy to hate.
• Sect leader Hyun Jong (sigh) even the villain I liked better.

As for the pros

• Mc's personality is really unique, he's hot headed, but very intelligent (from reading about his past, you can tell he was back then but had let his then sect leader and seniors do all the thinking - probably also the many reasons he has regrets, because he must feel that he could've stopped them from going to battle against the cult)
• The antagonists are the 9 sects and these guys have been getting fat over power faster the war against the cult but the main antogonists is the demon cult which has been hiding for centuries in order to come back and these guys are stronger than the unorthodox and orthodox sects. They are really strong and it's not just for show, I like that a lot because wuxia novels tend to make it is like it is entirely impossible to default the heavenly demon but protagonist just kills him and his followers just disappear.
• Demon cult are fanatics and if you have any doubt you die. No mercy, for a comedy most of the villains are ruthless and don't leave anyone alive
• MC is ruthless too, when he fights he fights to kill, but holds back most of the time, again in respect to his sect and the sect leader but when against the enemy he let's them know that they should not stop him.
• There's also this unlikable villain (lol), very unlikable and powerful, not associated with the demon cult, he's feared by everyome except the MC who's faced the heavenly demon of course but MC is still wary (good, I don't like reckless protagonists)
• There's no extra nonsense of face slapping the young masters, and drinking elixirs after elixirs to increase strength, they train most of the time
• Reading this you might think it's all about the nine sects, training and the unorthodox but we do come across the demon cult, to me this was a good introduction because the only setting we got before was these guys were hard to beat and would kill without hesitation, was from the MC. We then get to see them in action but MC realises that these guys they've met are just a clumsy imitation meaning although they are from the cult they are from the bottom, the 5 were struggling with this guys thou then realise the danger of cult, if these guys are weak then the real ones must be really strong, this setting comes to play when they actually meet the cult members at 1000, at this point it isn't the full cult thou, so danger level rises again, and keeps the anticipation of how strong is the heavenly demon thou
• MC and the heavenly demon are beings that go against logic, even MC acknowledges this because they are both just too strong. MC and heavenly are similar yet different, HD wants power and is powerful and MC is the best and powerful too. MC is someone who care about gaining his power without having to kill masses
  and doesn't care if you decide not to listen to him, it's your own choice while HD doesn't care about killing and he wants absolute obedience. They were both at the peak and were gonna fight even in this era they will still fight like it's destiny

I really enjoy reading this and has become my favorite, annnnnd there's no such thing as using the side characters close to MC as stepping stones to introduce a so called important character, everybody has their back story but it's not in our face, the focus is on mount hua and the MC and it doesn't deviate. <<less

It's undeniably a really good story. As everyone else said, it's a good mix of funny and epic.

Nethertheless, there is weaknesses in the writing, a lot of unecessary repetition, which can make the reading a little bothersome. That's why I feel like it's better to read the webtoon, which doesn't countain these failings.

Good balance between comedy and seriousness.

MC is really likable and the side characters have their own unique likable personalities.

Its a fun read and a well written one at that!

Really it's one of the more refreshing novels out there, I would highly recommend you give it a try.

It's very well written and the author doesn't drag things out for word count or padding. He gets straight to the point and just gets things done. It doesn't leave the reader tired and waiting for something to be over with.

My fav will always be our MC but the fact that he has a family/sect behind him bettering themselves so they can stand shoulder to shoulder with him is what makes this story even better !!!

I took a break from reading it because I legit was reading every damn day lol so ill return to it and probably reach the current chapters in 1000s.

chungmyung is now my comfort character. For me, personally, I prefer the novel over the manhwa. It's much more immersive than what the manhwa could deliver. I still read both to know what each character looks like.

i love the fact that the author include everyone in the room. The reactions in between make the writing much more interesting and refreshing.

+to put it simply, murim is a new concept for us, kinda like sf. But the author made sure to include in writing very naturally the "rules n regulations" or "unspoken... more>> rule" or things that are not common knowledge so ppl can enjoy it easier without the world's concept being shoved in your face.

some things are conveyed through emotions or reactions, creating suspense in the story. It keeps u questioning but they also answer your questions. Which is like my fav part bc its exhausting to keep questioning details especially in such a long novel.

so for someone who loves to be immersive, I really recommend this novel. Its an easy read, but it still gives u the roller coaster ride that u crave and the warmth that u seek. <<less

This story is breathtakingly, heartbreakingly beautiful as a whole.

Sure, the jokes may be repetitive and the plot may be dragged out. But I don't even mind it anymore because I wouldn't be able to bear all the pain if not for comedic relief and prolonged breaks between the most intense scenes. This novel meets the perfect balance of comedic undertones while also allowing for depressing very emotional moments.

Honestly and with the war arc coming up (well at the time of this review, I will have finished the novel in a few days at the pace I’m at, already at chapter 400 and started two days ago) I can only wait to see how much better it gets. Seeing some spoilers I’m sure it’s going to be ace. I’ll update my review when that time comes,

regardless I love how our MC is ruthless as hell, and how the other side characters also get there own glory like Yoon Jong Baek Cheon and Yu Yuseol (I think it’s how it’s spelt?) All and all a very top tier novel. Hard to find faults unless you see the constant op ness but that’s only fair the man is has lived his life to becoming strong so of course he would be. The story is well fleshed and everything is explained in an entertaining and endearing way, with some of the knowledge up to us to find out.

The great thing about this novel is the MC or more exactly is the MC Sharp mouth and way of thinking. This novel is hilarious as hell. If you don't believe me you can read the manga. This Novel is recommended for someone who like action with a touch of comedy.

I have nothing to criticise this novel, The story is just very interesting and exciting to read. I'm usually very picky with novels and if it gets a least bit boring I just drop it and pretend like it never existed. But, reading through this book I didn't feel bored even once.

So I came here from the manhwa after completion of season 1. The first arc.

So far I'm enjoying it and it's one of the better Korean murim novels till what I've read. Hopefully it maintains the quality in later chapters.

I'd recommend the manhwa as it cuts down on a lot of verbose prose and instead gives a more cohesive picture of the story, especially the fight scenes.

i like it but the MTL cannot be read as I'm guessing the language isnt easy to be translated and its confusing even though I have read up to 425 translated chapters. So I ll save it for now and hope that soon it will be translated.
