It actually 4/5 story, but since the MC is cute and shameless, ML is loving and caring, and consider I read it in one go, i’ll give it 5, as well as for the easy to read translation.

MC is not s*upid, it just ML is too smart. It cracked me when reading how MC thought he was too smart while in fact his pampering hubby just play blind to let him feel smart.

This is cliche troupe when MC transmigrating into a fish and need to do tasks to gain his... more>> original human appearance. The palace drama is not heavy, the plot is mediocre but fluff.

What I loved the most from this, ML is mute, he can’t say much. There are some scene where he need to convey what he though with simple action and words in writing. It was so freaking romantic, makes me feel single even tho I have a lovely GF. The bold confession carved in the wall, and the simple four lines when he respond to the dating rules. It makes me smile and warmed my heart.

Thank you so much for translating this! (Great translation btw)

I've never read a BL with such a loving, doting, and equal couple. Not only was it warm and fluffy, it didn't lose any interest or plot points because of that, unlike other fluffy BL that get repetitive or boring.

Also the MC, while naïve and a bit ditsy sometimes, was never illogical or bratty or spoiled or unreasonable like other "innocent" BL MCs can get. Also, no s*upid misunderstandings!

I completely recommend this to anyone.

My only regret is that they never told Wang Xi about Li Yu (MC) and his kids being fishes and I feel like he was the most deserving to know. I just hope that they eventually told him, especially after the ML "became a fish" too.

Love it! Beautiful! Fairytale-like novel ♥︎

This is a wonderful read, from characters to the setting of the story, everything was enjoyable till the end.

Li Yu and Mu Tianchi are amazing couple, loving, supportive and strong. There was no emotional drama which can twist our hearts or misunderstandings which can last chapters, don’t worry this couple didn’t have any. They slowly step by step solved everything, if they needed to talk, they ‘talked’ (after all ML is mute) and even if there were few miscommunications, there was no reason to be... more>> worried. Their children were all very cute, they had their own personalities. Even though they didn’t appear that much, you would still love all Baos. This Fish Family is just adorable ♥︎

I also must mention System. It wasn’t system with quirky ‘personality’, it was just system who gave tasks, it would never give some kind of talking back jokes or comments, I would say it is epitome of system who just did its job like it supposed to do and it was refreshing.

As for story, it has wonderful pacing. From starting task till last, from first meeting of fish and wangye till happy ever after ending, from pets to secondary characters, everything and everyone had their role and it was a great fulfilling story which I will never forget and someday will re-read (maybe more than once).

. In the beginning of the novel he was forced to be with ML all the time and could not accept ML feelings but after knowing ML better he fell in love as well.

ML:

He is one of the sweetest ML's I have ever read. He is reasonable, supportive, considerate and respectful towards MC's decisions and desires. He is somewhat insecure but it would get better in the final stages of the novel. He never doubted MC and did his best to make MC happy and to secure MC's secrets.

You know that feeling when you finish something you love and you just feel so hollow? Thats me.

I already miss this novel, its probably one of my favorite novels I've ever read.

ML isn't super overbearing, the MC isn't super naive. The Baos are adorable, tho I would've liked more time with Snow bao.

The ending was so cute I felt myself tearing up.

Thank you Infinite for translating this beautiful novel.

I'm not very good at making super precise reviews so I'll leave that to those who are.

This is a sweet story that gives you toothaches. There is a bit of palace intrigue, but nothing the crown prince with a few well placed warnings can't handle.

I really enjoyed reading this story! “ψ (｀∇´) ψ The MC and ML's love and trust with each other is something I admire.. Their story progressed and they had overcome the obstacles in their lives that made the story more precious.（＾ｖ＾） The children are cute and the differences in their personalities made me want to know more about them.

If you want sweet, respectful, quirky slow-burn, this is the novel for you. I cannot recommend it enough. I need more hanji!

And while there is enough plot to keep you interested, don't expect tonnes of substance, this is an adorable mood raiser😍🐟

After a lot of delays, I finally read the fish story. I honestly enjoyed reading this one a lot. This is more on the lighthearted side as I expected, though there's a little bit mystery and secrets happening inside the imperial palace that involved the ML. The plot is not that deep. The majority of the plot surrounded the MC and ML's relationship but more of the mystery unfolded in the latter part.

Our ML might be mute and couldn't express what he wanted to say most of the time... more>> but he's the most considerate, doting and devoted lover you could have possibly known. With his always calm demeanor and stern face, you wouldn't expect him to be so pampering and caring, but he is. MC didn't even need to say what he needed, ML is either already on his way to get it or he already got it. He's a character you would loved to have as a lover.

The MC on the other hand is not the brightest character. Maybe because he transmigrated into a fish, his brain turned into fish's as well. Yes, he is innocent and naive but he's also beyond that. He's a little slow and silly, sometimes made decisions that is quite questionable. Sometimes it's annoying and frustrating to read him because of how fool he is, but I couldn't deny that sometimes it's also adorable, depending on the situation he's in. What I don't like is when he acted so hypocrite. His character developed over time though so it's not a reason to dislike him. I still enjoyed reading his shenanigans.

I think my most favorite part of this novel is the four fish babies. They're the most adorable little buns and their existence definitely added not only to the plot but also to the charm of the whole novel itself.

I recommend this to anyone, as long as you know not to take this seriously. You have to suspend disbelief with this one but overall a very amusing and delightful read. <<less

There is a little bit of everything in this novel: dog-blood drama, mystery, court intrigue, comedy, romance, action... but at its core it's, FLUFFY.

The MC is very simple and straightforward and the big reveal is drawn out to a degree that only makes the MC seem willfully ignorant and s*upid. Personally I think this a more a flaw in writing choice than the character himself but it can be frustrating as a reader.

Ultimately this a cute and fluffy romance and shouldn't be taken seriously. Read it to cleanse your palate... more>> of the more heart-pounding, tear-jerking nail-biting plots. <<less

Ok I will say I love this one so much its funny and quite amazing simple novel and how ML tho MC is demon and wanted to dual cultivation 😹😹

i really love how they fall in love with each other and support each other and the mute regain the glory and how the main persoon who was meant to be ended up with the ML became villian and I really hated the ending they system showed to the MC that how he will endup if MC dont support him. How... more>> the past linked with the present its quite interesting and best for light and time pass novel. Theres not much plot in it just only few prince and the emperor and in the end the father gave his throne to the prince jing I like it and they had five childrens together so cuteeee <<less

f*cking cute. simple as that LOL.

the ML is so f*cking in love (whipped) and I hate that he isn't real and that there isn't one for me. :')

MC is cute/dense and putting it badly, dumb but reasonable kinda dumb. like logically u won't do it but emotionally/morally you'll do it kinda way and I respect that.

to me, the ending felt rushed, yet not... it's hard to explain. the journey was enjoyable but the ending just kinda didn't go as smoothly as I thought.

This is a very fun read. The biggest reason why I like this story so much is because of how simple the author writes this story.

One of the biggest ways the author simplified alot of the story's plot without delving into the complicated bits of the plot twists was simply how they wrote MC. MC is a very simple person that'll be happy with his basic needs being fulfilled. He gets landed in a situation and makes the best of it no matter how bleak it may seem. He's essentially... more>> a golden retriever in fish form. And because he's a fish, he gets so many passes to all the shenanigans he pulls because 'are you really blaming the fish?'

Honestly how the story sets itself up is hilarious. The beginning of this story is literally 'all this noise for a fish???' And it's great.

And everything else just fell into place. MC's golden retriever personality keeps you at his pace to where you don't really notice or question any plot holes that may be in place or the clues to any potential foreshadowing. And while the plot itself does have the expectation to go in certain directions to where it is predictable, it still surprises you because your surprised with the MC. Your journey throughout this story is with the MC and you don't have time for complicated thoughts when MC wants to pull something.

And while this may make the MC as impulsive and kinda immature, which he is simply because he's still learning, he's definitely not s*upid. He actually does take time to think out his actions and learns from any mistakes when things don't go as planned.

I wanted to absolutely love this book--it was rather infamous even before getting officially licensed in English, and I was intrigued. Sadly, the character and plot depth erred a bit too heavily on the side of fluff for my personal tastes. Still, a sweet if rather superficial romp about a fish family.

I finished this a while back and took notes, but I struggled to think of what I wanted to write for this review since I simply didn't find much of substance in the book, but neither was anything done... more>> badly. So here's my main thoughts, recorded for future reference:

  • the mutism aspect was a very well-utilized feature

  • the book is SO FUNNY! LY is quite the wisecracking fish, and his gaps in logic don't come across as "braindead MC" to me like some other reviewers but just add humor and nuance to what we read as his quirky thought process
  • every courtroom/palace scene was fun, I enjoyed trying to guess how people would react to this precocious fish and how he would interfere each time. HOWEVER these scenes got repetitive by the end and while I do enjoy a good face-slapping, there simply wasn't enough... juice? tea? toxic drama? to hold my attention when the inevitable face-slapping commenced by about the halfway mark
  • similarly, once the fish babies were born, the momentum in plot and drama took a dive and instead focused on humor, fluff, and family themes--which are fine but there wasn't NEARLY enough conflict for me to get that invested since I was already aware everything would turn out fine
  • "but baetriarchy, you gave 'Quickly Wear The Face Of The Devil' 5 stars and the whole plot is face-slapping and guaranteed HE" yeah but there was equal emphasis on building the MC's and ML's character development deeper and deeper with each arc, all while maintaining an overarching plotline full of mystery that took clues from each arc to solve. The face-slapping was fun because it was in service of these deeper elements.
  • all in all, this was a... nice read. Entertaining? Sometimes, especially the parts with humor and where Li Yu could be a foolish fish dad in his inner monologue. And I honestly enjoyed the extras where for once we got a surprising plot element--

I'ts good. The author really intended the MC to become slow and a bit foolish. I understand the review of the other readers. However, afterwards, he improved and he became better and acted more appropriately.

This is such a good story. I like it so much. That's too bad that there's not a lot of scenes where the MC and the ML showed how they changed the nation and how they made it better.

I felt a little conflicted on how to rate this novel, since I enjoyed this novel but also see why people voted 1 stars. If we put this novel in fluff-focused category, it’s definitely a 5 stars though. There’s interesting plot going, even though it’s not as serious as how other historical novels should be. MC seems smart and at times, but also sometimes dumb silly. ML is a whole field of green flag. It's absolute nonsense.

But it's FUN absolute nonsense!

It takes a bit of suspension of disbelief in the early chapters given that most everything the MC does is physically impossible (we're talking Disney-animated-movie levels of anthropomorphized animal shenanigans), but once you get into the thick of the story you just go with it. The characters are interesting and endearing, the plot holds water (pun intended 😉), the writing is engaging, and the translation is top-notch.

Some reviewers seemed to struggle with remaining interested, but I didn't feel that way at all. It is... more>> quite long, but after the aforementioned rough start, I couldn't put it down and binged all 156 chapters in a couple of days. If you want something soul-cleansingly fluffy and funny but still with enough substance to keep you reading, this is just the ticket. <<less

i am just in love with this story, very full filing I have read this like 4 times now and probs will again, def worth the time reading this, when I want a sweet love story, I always search for this

and plus the male lead is also very sweet and caring, he always took care of the shou in fish form and in human form, doesn't help that even when he thought that

the shou was a thief because he always appear out of nowhere and he also built like a fish pond for his wife and his kid, and even built a miniature town in the pool just so that his fish could see what the world look like (this was before the gong knows the shou was a fish I think)
