One of my fave Transmigration might not be my top but definetely one of unforgettable ones. Still dont understand the low score I think if you dont have the time just dont read it bec I read it many times before I really understood some parts but it is a great read. This is a very complex novel. I enjoyed reading it and parts of it will always linger in my mind. Thoroughly enjoyed it despite it not being a typical romance story. Don't expect it to be a fluffy story. Its more on schemes and manipulations with flawed characters coming to a compromise with one another.

Basic premise is our FL is from the modern world who reads a novel about a main wife who becomes a concubine as the husband as found a new love and discards her. FL thinks the... more>> husband is tr*sh and that the novel is tr*sh. She is then "transmigrated" into the abandoned wife. As this novel is set in Ancient China, it is the norm for the husband to have many wives, so please note this. It is a common feature in many novels set in the past. Anyway, FL doesn't quite like this s*um husband who sleeps around a lot but she needs to fulfill the wish of the woman she transmigrated to in order to return to her world. And she thinks the wish of the woman "Nie Sangyu" is to obtain the love of her husband. So despite her hating him in her heart, she will attempt to be good to him in her own way. But she doesn't really actively pursue it, which is why this isn't really a romance. And yes, the ML is the s*um husband. So if you hate the thought of that, stop reading. The ML is very flawed, only because he is born in an era who needs him to be ruthless. He is after all the marquis and entangled with the politics related to ascension to be the Emperor and he wants to retain his power. Love is really low on the list of priorities for him. So do expect him to callously treat the women around him as pawns, before he actually has "real" feelings for FL. He himself does not know if that is "love" but he eventually realizes that she is more important than some of his schemes. (Not always but he does compromise his plans for her). So basically it's a story that involves alot of scheming and backstabbing and survival. FL goes through A LOT. This novel has arcs- harem fighting, survival arc, and the final realization arc. I loved every part of it despite some parts I did not like.

On the second ML:

I honestly adore Ning Mingjie's character a lot and was rooting for him to win Ji Man over (our FL) but too bad she really cuts off any possibility of me imagining about them being together haha.

On ML:

He is a flawed character. He is really ambitious. He wants to keep his power, he wants a good life. He is not promiscuous per-se, he does not actively search for beauties but appreciates goodlooks nevertheless. In this story, he has several wives and concubines and he does not always treat them well. He thinks he is treating them well but he's really not. He does come to a realization about love in the novel and what matters in the end. I both liked and hated him but I think that's the best part of the novel, he is an imperfect character that really comes to life in this story. No one is perfect. Despite his flaws, his ambitions, he tries his best and attempts to court FL in his own way towards the middle and end of the story. He gets jealous, he schemes, he yearns. He is an amazing character to read about and a genius for manipulating so many things behind the scenes in this novel.

I like how he realizes Ji Man is not really Nie Sangyu. I like how he tries to be the man that she would like - fixing lightbulbs and computers lol eventhough he does not quite understand. I like how he yearns for her despite not knowing what he really wants, I like how he pretends to be hot and cold in order to remove the suspicions on her.

It is a HE btw and that is so strange to me somehow:

In the end he does not take in any other concubines and basically just stays with FL till they die. And I feel like that is really so strange in a novel set in Ancient China that is more accurate than some on the novel here that has FL and ML alone. ML does keep one side concubine but does not sleep with her. He attempts to be the sole lover of FL since she keeps telling him about her world where it is a 1 on 1 love. So for those who stopped early, do try to keep going to the end. It is really a good novel. Both characters does do questionable things:

Through and through a big fat piece of sweet potato (it's suffocating).

Requires some degree of masochism to keep going.

Romance is definitely a sub-genre as it mostly revolves around fighting with the inner harem and later on surviving political battles. The narrative is not omniscient and the main cast isn't omnipotent.

It's better to read this story with the mindset that humans are fundamentally flawed and hypocritical.

ML is hardly a likable person, but what's important is that the MC loves him.

But it's not that she's indulging him, it's really about two people of two extremes finding a middle ground. She herself isn't perfect either.

That in itself was very sweet but the road leading up to this was way too darn long. But it doesn't feel sudden or longwinded. ಥ_ಥ

You'd probably dislike the majority of the cast but still can find the story enjoyable. There are only a few minor areas where the plot convenience became exasperatingly and glaringly obvious, but for the most part, utterly thrilling and entertaining.

Side Note: TL did a wonderful job and the ramblings are nice food for thoughts. <<less

I wanna make this review short so will just include main parts:

  • This novel really does contain lots of controversial things our ML or MC does. Whether you can stomach it by considering that this story is set in ancient times is up to you.
  • I think the plot was great I liked the schemes and throne fights a bit messy at some times but I am left satisfied
  • Very lengthy looking but I read it really easily and quickly
  • Like our dear translators have said since this novel is usually narrated from the eyes of MC it really becomes untrustable. Whether you believe her judgments or not is what makes the story more interesting

This novel is not like other transmigration novels when the FL after a little time of crossing fall head over heels in love with the aloof, tsundre and a classic ML that has full control over everything around him like the world was created just for him and his life partner... well in the end it does eventually happen but dont misunderstand the ML and FL are not like teenagers who are drowned in there sweet romantic life but they are just like old experienced couple who had gone through... more>> many twists and turns and then eventually decided to live there life together cuz they are suited for one another both, can rock the world together too and independent too.

I reaally want to appreciate the writer cuz in lot of novels the ML usually ends up being the emperor in the end who has full control over his court that in realistic situations is impossible, (u can also see this in the stories of the emperor's in this novel..) rather in this novel the ML is a cunning, sharp minded old court official who has a grasp of politics like the back of his hand. the word nine tale fox is the exact representation of his character.. also the FL is suited for her character as a modern day women where she can depend on herself as well as make the ML fell happy too by depending on him to satisfy his hero complex.. love all the characters in the novel except for the orig Fl, like she is truly annoying...

And dont get too happy as some characters have tragic/sad endings too.. also really appreciate the translator for the amazing translations..

I dont know how to add the spoiler tag so imma write it as it is (may have spoilers so read it if u can bear to be spoiled)

1. I loved the part where the first prince Zhou Zhe after ascending the throne tried every trick to keep the FL to enter his harem, which also played a part in his decline.. his antics are hilarious..

2. Also the dialogues of FL are very amusing.

3. Also the distinction between the ML and the 2nd ML. I hate it when the 2nd ML is almost perfect and in everyway is more deserving of the FL than the ML But in this there characters have a clear distinction in accordance with the roles. 2nd ML is very gentle and have a light personality almost like the orig FL which sometimes made me say huh bro u have no chance to be with our queen since she is also very sharp minded. whereas the ML has a very strong personality and strong not in halo but in character, he is very far sighted and cunning very deserving of his role as a ML.

4. The second prince's story is very depressing, loved pengyue. I actually wished to read the story of there next life where pengyue could have a HE and have nothing to do with Zhou Li.

I highly recommend reading this novel it was a delightful experience. good word translator👏👏👏 <<less

Look, people say that this gets better after a few hundred chapters, but I do not have the time or inclination to read hundreds of boring pages in the hopes that I'll like it more. The characters are really dull, and there's nothing particularly interesting about the initial set-up.

Even if you've got a lot of time to kill, you might as well kill it with a novel that's good all the way through.

Whoa one word to describe this light novel “ exhausting “ it was really emotionally - exhausting reading about all the schemes and harem fights and the traps were set for the MC, she is actually quite lucky still alive, I felt like it was a story a bout the secondary female lead who turned her fate to a female lead ‘s fate, she was so patient with ML I thought at some point she would ask for a divorce because he was so disappointing always pushing the blame onto... more>> her and ordering her around like a servant, from the beginning the purpose of her getting in Nei sanguy body was taking revenge for her, and Jman did well but unfortunately she got the ML to fall in love with the modern jman not nei sangyu so the poor Nei sanguy never got her love reciprocated, and I found it quite hard to believe that you can simply fall in love with someone who has never taken your feelings into consideration when he made most of his decisions just like when he opened the gates for the second prince and got her Nie clan executed and when she gave birth to his baby boy he took him away without telling her or at least giving her some hints to calm her heart, the events in the chapter where so tiring because the ML and the MC always leave away out for the villainous characters they never solve the problems from the roots, and the harem was so chaotic jman could have solved this by being more strict with the concubines, and one more thing I felt like they dumped their baby boy in that temple it was really sad. Even though there was many unsatisfying and blood- boiling events I was so hooked up by the novel and I enjoyed it and tons of thanks for the translator she did a tremendous job. <<less

MC is beautiful & smart and has to survive in a messy harem. Novel is written pretty well, lots of drama. ML annoys the reader because he has romantic moments with other females and nearly none with the MC. He's pretty much a d**** to the MC. But it is a good read if you want to read how the MC is super chill, detached and steady through it all.

I don't think the ending is technically a happy one. The FL is pretty awful, not like one-dimensional, but she's really hard to root for. She implicated/involved innocent people, and never really tried to make up for it. The ML is also pretty awful. Just... I didn't really like anything about him. Karma pretty much comes for both like the final plague hitting Egypt, which is why I can't really call the ending happy, but I still feel like they got off lightly since they're the leads.

This is a unique book in two ways (based on my *limited* experience with harem novels). 1: FL admits to enjoying interc**rse with ML, even though she doesn't really like him much. It's really nice to see female characters being allowed to enjoy s*x. 2: The FL is a complex, well-rounded character despite her cheats, and even side characters get enough development that one can see a little of why they do what they do.

However, I did find some of the cheats unbelievable, especially in the second half, and by... more>> the end of the novel I didn't like anyone anymore. (I just prefer fluffier stories though, so YMMV.)

Finally, a big shoutout to @fuyoneko, my favorite translator. Thank you for your wonderful work!! <<less

But I disgust ML a lot.

I read again and again but I cannot understand why FL forgive that type of guy who can kill a women easily because of pillow talk and support ‘love’.

she keep on saying he is very intelligent but I found it sorry for marquis title.

During that Southern trip chapter where she gave herself to the ML just because is truly disappointing, though she came from the modern era and as she said she's more open minded with those things, with what she had experienced since the first day of coming to that era, I'm very upset!!

There's also that second male lead, author is building up something for the FL and this guy but is suddenly trying to disregard this plot and desperately trying to push a development between the ML and FL, come on!... more>> The ML is a douche, give the FL something/someone more worthy

The FL is good and all but the ML is the leader of the s*umbags. I will truly feel disappointed if FL end up falling for this type of male despite knowing what he did to the previous FL (despite the former FL being a lunatic) and experiencing everything and more herself. <<less

I dont understand why there where a lot of negative reviews for this story especially the Male lead? As far an I can see the things he is doing is pretty realistic and logical. It might be because of my preference but I just love a story where the plot goes on without the story being battered with unnessesary chucks no sense storylines. Gripping story that is full of political and backyard intrigues. When people say its not a romantic story but a political one, they really do mean it. Characters are 3 dimensional and does not revolve around ML and MC, but they were simply characters helplessly sweeped by an ongoing power struggle at the palace. Everyone is a suspect with their own motives, no one is completely good or bad, and MC is unreliable narator. Very smart and well-planned story that I couldn't put down.

The story does slowly weave itself into a romantic story near the end, and it was done beautifuly. The happy ending was not easily achieved, and both MC and ML learned slowly to care toward one another amidst the chaotic situation. This story is the most believable (and slow) progress of a transmigration romance I've ever read between a woman from modern world with modern values and a male from a heavily patriachal society.

Everyone who love Chinese historical stories and courtyard/political intrigue or had enough with all existing transmigration stories, must definitely read this one! I beg you!

PS: This is also first story that I put in as favorite despite still halfway finishing it! I finished it now, and it stayed there so it's that good

this took me a lot of effort reading this novel. I kept on going because the translation and the flow of the novel is very good and I already spent a lot of time in reading.

I almost gave up many times because as a modern person I cannot accept multiple partner. Maybe I am just too narrow minded. I am glad that I am not from that era. The ending is pretty good eventually so everything is worth it.

It is a great novel... infact many people seem to dislike ML but I think he is a strong and just man... he knows how to take responsibility of people dependant on him and is intelligent... not a love sick puppy who can't keep his calm... he is a good "human being" who prefers his promises and responsibilities to his emotions... he clearly falls for FL after about 150 chapters but doesn't let his emotions let him be unjust to a person whom once he thought he was in love... more>> with (and that time previous jiman's character was far from being likable so according to that era he wasn't being exactly disloyal)...I have read this novel about an year ago and will definitely reread it once I start forgetting it's scenes <<less

Amazing read. I can appreciate a female lead that doesn't give in to the main lead in the firsg few eps. I love how she's not head over heels for him at first and only strives to make money and live good and occasionally take revenge.

Male lead....I'm not too in love with him. Some of the things he does is quite frustrating. But I do like novels where the male lead is cold-hearted. So I wasn't hating him too much.

Second male lead was perfect. Like the female lead says "Male... more>> lead is for thr female lead and the second male lead is for the audience" he won me over.

There were some unnecessary scenes, lots of scheming and an annoying white lotus Wen Wan but other than that m, I'd recommend it. <<less

I might not best reviewer because I did not actually read all chapter I might skip like 200 chapter in middle. So I want to discuss my thought how MC get herself in already married to husband who have wives.

But I want to give a prep for reader who might very romance heart that MC and ML is pure honest 1v1. So I def want warning think this actual polyandry (multi wives) in practice that many reader might hate ML for still "normal social in ancient to have harem and... more>> seed them". Yes, that mean you will read about how ML interact with his wives (various title which long to list here)

Good thing, I really enjoy MC mindset toward ancient with polyandry setting not monogamy (like modern marriage 1v1) so I would not like like ugh ML cheat on MC or common MC tell ML to pick sole wife not wives. After all, she was prepare to get what she want which is not romance so she has lack of interest toward ml. I think that much easily on my reader romance heart in beginning. So I could see how both finally mutual after so long.

ML will change mind to have romance monogamy with MC. Just think of first half polygamy then 1v1 between MC and ml.

however not too expect in beginning because like I say it actually practice polygamy that ML did put many seeds with his wives even after ML has favor (not love yet) toward to MC but ML does got suffer from various kind scheme happen in his home. Much later, he realized to desire to settle down and peaceful so that he keep think about MC and he start to tone down with his choose of wives.

So let think as how MC deal with ancient polygamy with all scheme ladies chase ml's love and favor. So I really enjoy and same time annoying with mc's lousy narrator and mind play. Yes there might have where MC lose the duel from another wives or ML's scheme (which is huge mystery plot story)

Plus I do enjoy how author try to be different from common trope easily with different view. Author actually write main character with flaws plus so many complex characters. <<less
