The Husky and His White Cat Shizun

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

Mo Ran thought becoming Chu Wanning’s disciple was a mistake.

His shizun was really too much like a cat while he himself was a dumb pup who’d only slobber and wag his tail.

Dogs and cats were different by nature; originally, the dumb pup didn’t want to reach his furry paws out to that cat.

At first he thought, dogs should be with dogs, like his shixiong, beautiful and tame like a cute Japanese Spitz, and the two of them together would surely be a match made in heaven.

Yet, after having died and reborn, after having lived two lives, the one he hauled back each time to his den in the end was always the one he couldn’t stand at first: that snow-white kitty shizun.

The amount of emotions I had to go through reading this novel was not less. It made me shed tear, made me go into an absolute rage and sometimes it made melt from happiness. I don't dare rate this because honestly I have mixed feelings about this damn book.

PLOT

The Plot is marvelous. The world building and characterization is perfect. I have never read a better book with such an intricate plot. Every line in the book matters. All the characters has done some absolute horrible thing but they are... more>> justified in a way. This book made me realize that there is no right or wrong. It all depends on the person's view. I felt immense hatred towards some characters but reading the circumstances which lead them into doing those things - My anger disperses. Reading this you will know how much care and thought was given in building this book.

The GREAT plot doesn't give justice to the ANGST. Till the 310 chapter - The amount of times I felt happy could be counted in one hand. The whole book is just PAIN>PAIN>PAIN. The author stabs into your heart and you think 'It's fine.. This is the first time' but before it starts scabbing, you get stabbed again. And this goes on for 300 chapters. The only thing that kept to me going through this book was chanting to myself ' This is a HE.' Again and again.

CHARACTERS

The Characterization in this book has to be the best one I have seen so far. There are no OP protagonists. They are selfish. They are greedy. They show human behavior. The amount of times the various methods to torture the MC came to my mind was not less. This book perfectly portrays human behavior. There is no ultimate change in character after a time period or changing their personality after meeting their lovers. Some characters induce such rage in you that you almost want to have an apocalypse but then you think from their POV and you will probably act the same.

The book is absolutely brilliant but before recommending this to someone I should spend at-least 10 min telling them the emotional changes you can go through while reading this. This book show you pain like no other. Now when I read other books of people betraying each other, I don't feel the earlier rage, I just huff and think - 'This is it?'. That's when I knew this book f*cked me up.

So I Say - READ THIS BOOK. It is something you wouldn't want to miss. Even though It has brought me so much pain, I have to reluctantly say that this should be THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ.

WARNING: This book has r*pe which is sometimes mentioned in detail and many other disgusting things. This is an explicit book which is R Rated. So Please read at your own caution.

If you are looking for a good heart ripping and trying to collect a bucket of tears while you're at it, this is the one for you.

The title, is so accurate yet so misleading. I thought it was quite a cute title, but little did I know, the husky was SO DUMB, I wished I strangled it. The first 100 chapters were just painful. I have cried many times while reading other similar heartbreaking novels, but never have I EVER cried for 100 chapters straight. I dropped it at one... more>> point because it was just too devastating. The vines full thorns tied together the misunderstandings, lack of communication, violence, and love into one package: 2HA.

The MC was so well developed. His character was portrayed as cruel, vengeful, and twisted. He never listened to explanations and created this false reality, unaware of his true feelings. As the story unravels, I felt so much heart ache for the ML. It was true relief when the MC slowly made his way to the truth, but so annoying and irritating when this could have been cleared before. Many times, I threw my phone and wished I could personally strangle the MC. I also wanted to slap the ML and give him a wake call and make him explain things. But the pain and sorrow is what makes this so intriguing.

I read MDZS/GDC, TGCF/HOB, and SVSS before picking this up. I see how similar 2HA and MDZS is. Ngl, I live for MDZS. I love the wangxian ship and their plot, but 2HA really take it all up a notch. GCD is a gentle stab in the heart compared to 2HA, which is a heartbreaker, full of violence and suffering. It is so saddening to see all the misunderstandings that could have been easily solved with explanations, but did it happen?? No.

It is a very good read so far, despite the anger and soul shattering moments. I totally reccomended this for those who are looking for a painful wake up call. There was absolutely no sweetness at first but eventually, you'll see it. Its like feeding you bitter medicine and then offering you candy, but it's sour candy. Relief for the slightest moment, but not for full enjoyment. <<less

You know, after MDZS, I thought I knew pain. After not crying over TGCF, I thought I was an emotionless puppet made out of wood. But then I tapped into 2Ha, and boy was I wrong. This novel made me cry like no other novel could, to the point where I would curl up on my bed and think about it until I fell asleep. This novel is DEEP and I recommend it so darn hard. I have to say, I liked this even more than the MXTX books, and... more>> I think this book deserves so much more.

CHARACTERS:

  • Mo Ran is one of the most complex MC's you will ever see. In the past, he was the biggest scum, but you will come to find that it wasn't all his fault. He is actually just a kind little child who wants to help people, but his hatred had been amplified, making him a demonic piece of tr*sh in his past life. But in his present life, he wants to fix all the mistakes that had been made and restart all over again. Gradually, we, as the readers, alongside Mo Ran get to reveal everything and watch this little boy grow up and change for the better. From the character himself, to his development, to his motivations and everything, I was absolutely stunned. Watching all different versions of Mo Ran come together to finally form one coherent entity was confusing, but still satisfying to the max.
  • Chu Wanning, the shou, isn't just any typical shou either. He is cold, oppressive, mean, but deep down, he is unsure of himself. He is insecure about how he's so cold that nobody likes him. He thinks that he is so ugly that a child will get scared to the point of crying by him. He had always been alone, even from his childhood, and he hadn't known how to deal with people being fond of him. He wants to save the common people, but in the end, he felt that he still hadn't done enough. He is the most babiest of babies and must be protected at all costs.
  • The villain was great. He was hateable, but at the same time, very pitiful. The thing is, unlike most villains, the one in 2ha wasn't trying to kill or hurt people. He was trying to save people. He was trying to save his own people that had been oppressed and hated for thousands of years, and won't consider the consequences if it means his people could be saved. In the end, I just couldn't hate him, but rather feel bad for him. If things didn't play out like they did, he very much could've been a hero.
  • Xue Meng is best boy. I don't need to say more, but I will. Xue Meng's character development is completely mind-blowing, from the narcissistic young master of Sisheng peak, to a responsible young man who has lost everything, but still keeps carrying on despite that. Due to his own pride, he had never been able to express how much he loved everything and everyone until they all were gone. He no longer cares about pride or honor like he did in his past, he just wants to be with the things and people he loves, and that is the most precious and heartbreaking thing ever.
  • There was not a single character you could completely hate (except a few dumb cannon fodders). Every character had their own reasons for doing things and they all had their own aspirations and personalities. Even with 311 chapters, it isn't enough to explore every side of these complex, multifaceted characters.
  • Mei Hanxue. Just Mei Hanxue. Both of them
PLOT:

  • Honestly, I'm just speechless about the plot. It was so complex and well thought out, I don't even know what to say about it anymore. You have to go read this book yourself to see why it's soo amazing. Just let me remind you here: pay attention to every single little detail, even the mini theaters. Everything is important.
You know what, I don't even want to finish this review. Just go read this book right now and you'll understand. However, this book is very, very heavy and deals with a lot of R18 themes in depth (rape, mu*der, morality, etc.) and doesn't just brush them off. If that doesn't fit your taste, refrain from reading this <<less

Looking for a novel with more than 50 chapters worth of tear inducing angst? (Did I mention that I cried for 50 chapters straight? Well, now I did.) You've come to the right place!

At first glance it seems like a normal 'time travel to fix everything and save everyone' novel.

Spoiler

But I was dead wrong. Many characters I learned to love died. When I realized the 'past' world was just another timeline, I was shocked. Who wouldn't be shocked to realize that it's not that the other person ALSO travelled back in time, it's that the entire time line where you're a monster still exists!

All those people were still dead. Mo Ran still mu*dered his uncle and aunt, he still did all those cruel and sadistic things, and he still mu*dered almost everyone. There really was no hiding the past and honestly? I like it. How many BL are you gonna find that hold their crappy characters actions accountable? And how many of those crappy characters will actually feel horrible about their own actions???? TBF tho, he was technically cursed and manipulated into becoming a monster, tho that really doesn't make anything better.

[collapse]

There are r*pe scenes and torture scenes in later chapters. Please mind the tags. Seriously.

About the story:

The start was extremely weird. I almost dropped the novel because I thought the rest of the book might be written like that too.

Book 1 starts with cruel and cold king Mo Ran who just reincarnated into his past self. I honestly did not expect him to get any better, as most novels just keep their apathetic cruel personalities intact. But boy was I surprised at the character development on later chapters.

By book 2 you can really see how Mo Ran is changing for the better. It's also where the plot starts to really get interesting.

Book 3 is angst. I don't know how many chapters I spent crying while reading them, but it was at least half of them.

Spoiler

Shi Mei... is worthy of being the final villain. The disgusting injustice his race was faced with (which I was horrified about in the beginning and was worried no one would ever bring it up again) filled me with vicious rage. The part where they bred them like pigs and slaughtered them...I would want the world to burn too. He might be a true monster for ruining two worlds and killing entire cities worth of people, but I'm still happy he succeeded in saving his people.

Meatbun (author) must be really sadistic... I thought I knew pain before, but Meatbun has really opened my eyes to a whole new world of suffering. It has literally liquefied my brain and my last remaining (1) brain cell is used to obsessively reread the entire thing until a new update is released.

Plot: 10/10, story is super intriguing + cool fight scenes + extraordinary suffering

Style: 10/10, Meatbun's writing is so descriptive + awesome translation make it really enjoyable to read

s*xual Tension: 1, 000/10, we love some good ~tension~ that leads into nice, steamy ppp

Yearning: 1000000000000000/10, the yearning, oh god the y e a r n I n g cannot be quantified by mere numbers <<less

Oh gosh

Well, let's start with the good sides! The first two of the three books were great, MC well developed, world well build, relationship w ML well written. Really good, exactly as they tell you in the other comments.

... more>> TW// spoilers and heavy stuff

I read it together with my bff/soulmate for life, and that heavens for that because the comments here made me feel like I was the only dumbass who didn't like the last book and the ending in general. The r*ape scenes are very very recorent (and always remiding us of how much Mo Ran isn't IT) in the whole book but the last part gets really graphic and wow I just skipped a few paragraphs sometimes.

Suddenly, tons of characters jump out of no where and, doesn't matter how old and powerful they are, Mo Ran is better than all of them in his early twenties with no explanation of it, nor hints of what powers he even has...

... and the final explanation was just wtf... all characters' endings were wtf tbh

T'was what we call in my mother tongue "um Deus nos acuda" (may God help us).

I'm excited for the drama because the graphic non con will obviously be cut off and the beginning of the story was really good. <<less

I'm both impressed and immersed in the story. Although... the plot style and character traits really really reallyyyyy reminds me a lot of how MXTX writes her work. It just feels strange, as it's written by a different author, yet the atmosphere is similar.

Like, throw in a chunk of Mo dao zushi, mix in a dollop of s*um villian's.. (cant remember the full name) and a handful of Heaven's official Blessing's violence x1000.

Boiled in a pot of extra bloody dog blood soup, with extra misunderstandings, some clichè clippings, a handful... more>> of scuminess and garnished with a white lotus bloomed under the white moonlight......

You can really tell that the author loves dog blood plots, and I do sometimes find it funny at how much drama is crammed in.

Like, oh hey, unrequited love, misunderstandings, s*um top, ab*se, naive trust in a**holes etc. Like sigh. They are all clichè, like, I've read some paragraphs /sub plots that are similar in more than 1 danmei novel, but the presentation is good.

But unlike a lot of wuxia danmei novels, the top is an ass... this plot is usually seen in modern danmei novels (ones I've read, which is a common recycled plot) with a white moonlight, unrequited love and loyal shou where the s*um top will redeem himself, work hard to gain forgiveness and bam! Happy ever after.

Honestly, I can't help but spit at the scumminess of the MC at the beginning. (I know he'll probably redeem himself in later chapters... but this doesn't mean I'll stop spitting at his shitty personality!!!!!!!!) *pui pui pui!!!! <<less

This is my first time MTLing and I already read spoiler before so... yeah...

This is that kind of story where you'll cry a lot... You'll get annoyed a lot but there's many sweet and funny things too. I like Shizun! MC is a bit annoying... #cough# and dumb #cough# but he grows up so much in the end. There's so many Misunderstanding between MC and ML but their relationship will progress... With so many heartache... Well, it's hard for me to say it. But this story is beautiful and ML... more>> (is uke/shou) is beautiful and the ending beautiful too <<less

u'see, I just knew this novel for less than a week. and instantly engrossed in the story. my God huhuhu Shizun...

but before I write review, lemme say this ... more>>
Spoiler

MO RAN YOU f*ckEN IDIOT. THIS s*upid DOG!! HOW CAN YOU THAT BLIND!!?? ALSO SHIZUN, PLS DON'T HIDE FEELINGS LIKE THIS. YOU BOTH ARE IDIOTS I'M SUFFERING HERE AAAAAAAAA.

[collapse]

*cough* okay, i'll save the full review till I finish reading. say, this one looks hilarious but the amount of knives are definitely higher. also the misunderstandings are, wow, so plenty that it's not even funny. I'm pretty sure I'm very annoyed with Mo Ran (gong/MC). who's the s*upid dog, certainly him. honestly, Shizun/Chu Wanning (shou) is too good for him. but strangely I'm waiting how he finally made things right. he's idiot dog, but still redeemable. it's quite rare for me. whenever I see s*upid characters in a novel, i'll lose interest and just drop it, never look back.

the mystery/plot is actually engaging. but for some reason I feel that it's kinda overshadowed by roller coaster of feels. eh I'm not even in half. so the thought can be changed.

but this novel has 300+ chapters. welp, the struggle is still long. and I don't wanna ruin the a̶n̶g̶s̶t̶fun so I don't read spoilers O<~<

Spoiler

oh author-san, just kill me already. I'm dying with the feels.

*sigh* can I say I want to kill Mo Ran?

BECUZ HECK I DO

*takes a deep breath* OK. So the novel itself is very well written, engaging, and angsty, and a bit lovely (though in some parts of the latter half it became very exhausting) Anyway, I love Chu Wanning, I cried for him so much, he was so pitiful *cries* I wanted to give him the world.

Mo Ran on the other hand can go fxxk himself. I know, I know that he had quite a bit of a character... more>> development and some things were done unconsciously BUT WANNING SUFFERED OK ?! And Wanning maybe blind and deaf to forgive him BUT I CAN'T. <<less

I found this novel because several were talking about it, and even started to read Manhua and I finished it up to date then I tried start the novel. I'm only on chapter three but I want to get one thing out of the way.

Alright, I just want to say that the English translation for this is very confusing to me. The main characters name is mo ran but the translation I keep finding is the ink burning, I looked up in the fandom and I know that is what... more>> his name translates to, but it bothers me. I can deal with the translation saying master instead of shizun, which I find odd because it's in the title. But everyone else's name is not translated like this.

This was probably a s*upid thing to write but I'm wondering if there is an accurate translation out there? I could wait for seven seas but I'm invested enough that I want to read as soon as possible. If there isn't an accurate translation at the moment I suppose I can deal with 300 + chapters until then. <<less

I 'm just writing this review because I see some have some misunderstandings about the novel. And I 'm sure they didnt complete the novel. From the novels I have read till now this is one of the best. At first I wasnt interested in this cause I thought the title was kinda silly and the summary was nothing much..... seemed like the typical rebirth series. I read it only because I heard that it was getting made into a drama. I dont regret reading this. Just know that this... more>> is not what it looks like in the beginning there is more into it. So if you like angst give it a try and try to complete it if you start reading. The story will keep getting dense.

Little introduction to the characters

Chu Wan Ning..... He is a guy who looks cold and intimidating but is warm at heart. One of the top powerful cultivators in the novel with three spiritual weapons. Became a Grand master at a young age and is an elder at the peak of life and death. Have only 3 disciples cause of the reason mentioned first. Have a thin skin so even if he want to do some things like comforting he will hesitate and try to make it look like he didnt do it.

For example a scene from it (read it only if you want to not any important spoiler from the plot)

When the disciples were going back after their lesson he notices that they were really happy but thought that their happiness will fade if they see him so he hides himself and puts a barrier above the kids so that they wont get wet in the rain.

A nice and strong guy......

Mo Ran

This is the guy you are gonna hate at some point. Like the title he is kinda dumb. Not gonna talk much about him cause you gotta experience this yourself.

"Hey sir i've been looking at you for a long time. Why are you ignoring me ? "

"I dont know anyone here but just from looking at you, I like you the most. How about I worship you as my shizun ?"

" Chu Wanning, I hate you to death but I only have you left "

Yea that accelerated very quick.

Xue Meng and Mei Hanxue

I love them...... Xue Meng is shown as an arrogant and proud son of heaven. He is talented and hard working. Just calls everyone dog except his parents, his friend shi mei and shizun. He just transforms into a quail infront of his shizun and he respects him a lot. And Mei hanxue is a flirty guy and yea Xue Meng gets annoyed by him easily. But their relationship gets better.

Tbh I kinda shipped them but..... its fine....

Shi Mei

Really nice. Respects his shizun. Just beautiful ~ Not that strong tho....

Ye Wangxi

This person is strong and dedicated general. One of those few people who was really hard for Mo Ran to deal with and someone he wouldnt want to make enemies with. I really loved this character.

This was a pretty awkward review... I know.... But trust me and read until the end. It will hurt.... so if you are not comfortable with angst maybe you can say bye bye ~ <<less

Where do I begin...

Well first, do not be fooled by the title and description like me. If you thought this was going to be a cute and fluffy novel, you thought wrong. This is way far the opposite of that spectrum... and that is one of the reasons I absolutely love this!

This is not a story for everyone. Plenty of scenes can be distressing for a lot of people so I advise those who planned to read to check the trigger warnings which is available in the translation. Please heed... more>> them as the scenes are very graphic and explicit and includes below -

Spoiler

blood, death, non-con, dub-con, r@pe, heavy angst, etc.

[collapse]

That said, if you still plan to continue reading, try to approach it with an open mind and finish it till the end before making your judgment.

At the beginning, the story feels like it's going to be one of those time travel fix-its where the main characters go back to the past and right their mistakes and to an extent, it does do that but not really in a way you expected to.

Overall, the plot is amazing! Not once did I guess what was going to happen next. It really will take you on a rollercoaster ride full of ups and downs and twists and turns. The emotional moments were done great and even the mini-arcs were set perfectly for you to take a break from the revelations and mysteries going on and although it may seem random at first, those mini-arcs really set up and provide some character development.

After you finish reading the story, you realize that hints to the mystery being unfolded have been scattered all over the story already and again, it was so hard to guess what was going to happen next!

The main characters are very well-written. They are, by no means, perfect people but their flaws are what make them amazing characters. Chu Wanning is one of the best characters I've encountered in danmei. At first, he comes off as the usual strict and stoic type filled with righteousness and what-not but he is unexpectedly naive in a lot of matters. His struggles against his weakness and how he overcomes them as well as how he struggles between his ideals and his love... it's just so good.

Mo Ran... where do I begin with this dumb man. Plenty of people are probably going to hate him whether or not that changes at the end of the story who knows. He tends to assume other people's words, reactions and feelings which contributes a lot to the misunderstandings going on. Granted, Chu Wanning really doesn't make it easy for him. Mo Ran is so stubborn that it takes the end of book 1 for him to realize that he was wrong about his Shizun. That said, I really love his development throughout the story. Does he redeem himself? It's up to the reader

RanWan. I have never believed that love is something 'good' or 'pure' but I always believed it is unconditional and to love and to be loved unconditionally is a toxic kind of love. That's what this is, a toxic love. But just because it's toxic, doesn't make it any less true. And it's also what this is, a true love.

They have gone through unimaginable things, they have hurt and be hurt by each other, the things they have done for each other produced such terrible consequences and yet they continue to accept, forgive, and love each other and that love transcended multiple lifetimes. Chu Wanning honestly deserves better than Mo Ran but he doesn't want anyone better, he wants Mo Ran and that's what matters. And that's why I absolutely love this couple!!!! <<less

Worth all the angst tbh. I'm grateful I actually became interested and tried reading it, it is super duper worth it. It's worth all the tears I shed due to the angst lmao (there's also fluff too though).

Imo I think in terms of relationship progress and romance it's better than MDZS. I even think overall in terms of characters and plot it's better too. It's more intriguing in a way and more bloody then MDZS. Also no characters are actually good or bad. Both MC and ML did wrongs and... more>> they really are portrayed as imperfect characters which I really appreciate. If you are bothered by the r*pe tag, there is a reason why it happened and the plot twist is very very good. Little details here and there really pop out later on as there is a reason why things happened the way they did.

Overall a 4.85/5 it's super duper good, to the point I'm actually considering buying the hard copy. Y'all should check it out, the angst and tears is super worth it. Also if you are a fan of pining, mutual pining and longing this is super recommended for you. Also its very much a HE.

Spoiler

In the extra after the ending they spent time together in like a secluded forest, and spend a rather mundane life there after all the sht they went through. Also there's smut in the extra.

Highly recommended, y'all should try and read this at least once, it's super immersive and a very interesting read. Also, though heavy it isn't super heavy to the point your head hurts and you can't understand anything (although it isn't a light read either). Go check this out and read it (。•̀ᴗ-) ✧ <<less

mmmm much tragedy that I felt that the author just wanted to hook us in this way. From ch. 200 becomes a tedious read. I didn't like the ending at all.

Really quite just at the start of this novel (Chap 39) but had to come and make a remark. So I have read endless reviews about how tragic and dog blood and vicious and angtsy etc this novel is. Why does no one mention that some parts are just absolutely hilarious!? I mean... the author's notes and some of Mo Ran's thoughts had me guffawing out loud at 5 am. So far I am on the "LOVE IT" end of the spectrum. Anyway back to reading and realizing it's good... more>> I can enjoy the humor for now 'cause then there is going to come the pain everyone is talking about. Ohhhh boyyy. <<less
