The Legend of Sun Knight

Description

Links are NOT allowed. Format your description nicely so people can easily read them. Please use proper spacing and paragraphs.

I am a knight. To be precise, I am the Church of the God of Light’s Sun Knight.

The Church of the God of Light worships and serves the God of Light, and it is one of the three largest religions on this continent.

As the whole continent knows, the Church of the God of Light has the Twelve Holy Knights, and each one has his own unique personality and features.

To be the Sun Knight is to have shining golden hair, sky blue eyes, a compassionate nature, and a brilliant smile.

“The benevolent God of Light will forgive your sins.”

I must have said that line at least a million times in my time as the Sun Knight.

However, the greatest wish in my life is to be able to stand before the entire continent and roar, “Damn your ‘the whole continent knows’! This Sun Knight just doesn’t feel like smiling! I just don’t want to forgive these human tr*shes! I just want to pepper my sentences with ‘f***’!”

Unfortunately, even to this day, I continue to wear a smile as I say, “The benevolent God of Light will forgive your sins.”

Literally my childhood, the very first novel that introduced me to the world of Chinese novels and I highly recommend this. This whole novel is very heartening and I'm not afraid to say that I shed a few tears as well. It's such a good read that I get the urge to reread it once every few years.

The storyline is coherent and engaging, and as a bonus we get an anti-hero protagonist! It's very humorous to see our MC's inner thoughts and scathing remarks, while he has to maintain an... more>> amiable persona outwardly. His scheming and strategic planning are also extremely satisfying to see, especially since he does it to protect his found family. I saw someone in the reviews calling the MC a two-faced b*stard, and oh boy I really have to agree with them on this. But it's more of a term of endearment, he really does grow on you quickly!

The story revolves around the theme of found family, as well as the idea of how far you would go to protect others. The cast is rather huge, so some characters don't really get enough screen time, but it wasn't that big of an issue for me since my bias is the MC and I think the author juggled between the characters pretty well. On the plus side, all the characters do have distinctive traits, so they are all pretty memorable in their own way.

Spoiler

The only downside I could think of was the relationship that suddenly sprouted in the extras between our MC and one of the characters. It's so awfully abrupt and felt rather forced. In my opinion, the story does fine without that extra bit of romance so I closed an eye (or both eyes) to it while reading that part.

First of all, this was the first work of the author I read, so firstly, you ether really like their way of writing or you can not stand it. I personally quite enjoy it, so just that and the well done translation made it a very pleasant read for me. On further note, the story is quite interessting, though sometimes a little repetitive, it was set that way to set the mood, so it is quite alright in my view.

Honestly, if you aren't allright with having a story about a... more>> group of Paladins that does not follow the typical way og honor and stuff, but from my point of view was written in a way to contradict the typical view people perceive knights, this might not be a story you would enjoy. I personally found it quite funny in the beginning but it does turn a lot more serious the more you progress in the story, while not losing its undertone. <<less

The 12 knights themselves were pretty interesting, the MC, the teachers, the holy Knights themselves, and even the little disciples of the knights

The comedy is pretty nice, the ending was actually okay. The friendship between the Knights was pretty aw worthy

—are probably the female characters, I can't tell if they're just badly written or just purposely like that. Why are the male characters likeable but the female characters aren't Why's there no likeable one? They all have this golden halo that doesn't allow anyone to harm them. They're all painted to be this stereotype, they're literally all the same, ranging from princessess to mercenaries. Not one of them is commendable... Don't get me wrong, physically weak characters are alright but that obviously depends on how authors write them out to be but in this story's case... You just can't help but not want to root for them, I mean if you really think deeply about it, you can understand some of their sentiments but the way the author writes them out to be just undermines the characters. It's like we can't be bothered enough to care for the female characters sinceAND they're not even comic relief, they're just somehow not liekeable and I don't get it. The way they're written just doesn't.. ugg

QAQ The liches were interesting though but they don't have genders so they're hardly even considered as female characters.

On the other hand, there's the problem regarding the novel's world building. There's just so much left out that it's frustrating. Teacher Neo and Aldritzz could've been handled better, like wtf happened to them and their background? My curiosity is itching ugh. Then there's the matter regarding the other 12 retired knights, the dark elf community, the light elves community and basically all the other races.

Only three Kingdoms have been mentioned? Wtf, the demon king is supposed to include the entire world, there should've at least been more continents to explore. There's so much to explore, especially THE OTHER RELIGIONS 😭 The author is really.....

Maybe the reason why I'm bitter is because I've previously read Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint (how is it that every female character is just so likeable) and tr*sh of the count's family (the world building is pretty nice)

It feels rushed and many things fell short, many characters weren't fleshed out much; such as Awaitsun, Trayler, Woodrow. They're literally just cannon fodders, it won't even be a stretch to say that they're just mobs (literally just plot devices) like mosquitoes that gets swatted. Even the current King and Pope was somehow more likeable that all these mobs combined. Don't get me started on the fem characters, it's like they're all some kind of trophy to win (like s*xual objects...I cannot—) Is balance too much to ask for?

Lesus and Grisia were pretty sus lol, I love their dynamic, they're actually the most sweetest pair of two in the entire novel, surprisingly. It's always Lesus that will pull Grisia together, when Grisia lost his memories and regained them just by seeing Lesus to Lesus risking the entire world just to save Grisia. I must say that their feelings must be pretty damn strong, they're certainly soulmates lol. (Soulmates are not limited to romantic love interests, loved ones are included such as friends and family) The duo definitely has this "loyal companion till death does them apart" type of soulmates vibe. Ah the sweet smell of companionship, while the relationship is pretty ambiguous, just the happy ending of all the knights being happy pleases my soul.

[collapse]

The Bromance was good I'll give the story that, the 12 knights themselves are definitely the highlights, although I wish they could've had more scenes thay fleshed their characters. I really do think that all the adventurer plot points were useless af, they couldn't even explore that much (Ugh tjey could've been excellent world building points). That one adventure with Neo and Aldritzz was pretty good though. It's just that these good points cannot salvage the fact that the story pulled so many infuriating hair grabbing worthy plots that I can't decide if I just want to pummel the story itself or something.

oh! By the time I read this, the translation is pretty good though im shook. Kudos to the translators for their hardwork. Bless their souls.

Oh well, enjoy the story y'all. This was pretty fun to read still. <<less

Until the author decided for MC to have amnesia, I still read further and further where basically I think the author forgot how to balance the story with comedy and plot plus action, this is only a reason for it but the amnesia plot failed. In the next volumes it feels dragged on with the plots that create the tension of the novel and made the story feel disorganized with the lack of details in the plots or reasonable actions. It is true to say that the way the comedy chapters enter in to action chapters are abrupt mostly. Shortly for me, when I begun to read the volume six, it has started for me to be more and more obvious that I was getting tired of reading the novel... even before volume six it felt tiring but I kept on cause I liked the characters however for me, the plots affected the characters too.

Though this is only my opinion, I do recommend it for the one who is reading this review 100%, give the novel a chance till the amnesia plot and think for yourself if it is still good for you or not frustrating you.

I have mixed feelings for this novel and I have a fever that makes me tired too, (;.;) , which causes a lack of spoilers (excuse ;p).

Yoooo this is one of the best novels I've read in a long time.

Like holy sh*t it's so good. The characters are awesome there's good character interaction and character growth as well.

Especially my man Grisia. chef's kiss. This bro is an amazing MC.

... more>> The world building is quite interesting as well and it's fun to follow the Mc's story.

What I enjoyed most is the brotherhood between the cast. Like how these idiots wouldn't hesitate to sacrifice themselves to save their fellow knight. So much f*cking feels man. So much feels. (Also all the knights have a great relationship with each other and that's beautiful. Especially Sun Knight and Judgement Knight being besties even though they're supposed to be enemies.)

cue me crying when Sun loses his eyesight.

Also the comedy is hilarious and fun to see. (Especially all the knights who have a different personality than their roles) (the Sun Knight is actually the most black bellied guy even though he's supposed to be good. The judgement knight is a softie inside though he's supposed to be ruthless etc)

There's never a dull moment with this story.

Just read it already. Go read it!

I read this wayyy back in 2012, back when it wasn't completed and I had no NU account so I could leave a review. First saw the manhwa and it had a really old style but it still hooked my teenage heart, and then I tracked the novel and after 10 hourse of hysterical internal screaming, I cursed it because I have no idea that mtl is a thing and it's not complete in translation yet.

I remembered it existed in 2016 again, and to my joy, it's completed. This is... more>> definitely one of the CNovel classics. By the gods, it's really amazing and I have some fond memories of it. I still reread it from time to time, and as all review here says, it would make you laugh your guts out 10/10. Just finished rereading this novel again!!!

And I must say that this was definitely one of the best comedy novel that I've ever read here on NU!

You'll just love everything on this novel from the story to its characters. The camaraderie and mischievousness of them are just gold. There's no chapter that wouldn't make you to laugh.

At first, I thought this was just purely humor. After a few chapters though, I found that this novel has surprisingly good plot and in-depth story.

Since the characters are quite many, they were introduced slowly one by one in each story until I feel like I know them all. And it helps that at the end of every volume, there’s ‘epilogue’ which is actually the author explaining the old and new characters again so that we doesn’t forget who’s who.

And though the plots are quite heavy for a humor novel,... more>> the author didn’t forget that it originally is a humor novel, and can combine the thick plot and funny narratives in one paragraph and make it works splendidly.

The teamworks are good, and the MC is not someone invincible, he has many flaws and his team knows it, and he’s not always winning by himself, but with his team of knights support, they ultimately can handle anything.

Spoiler

Though since I prefer an always-happy story, this is not going to be something that I reread again.

There would be quite many sad moments in here (don’t worry though, they always win in the end).

It's been said before, but it deserves to be said again. This series is hilarious.

A gang of normal (bad personality) knights forced to act as paragons of goodness and righteousness? Wonderful.

And the grammar is good enough for native English speakers to not want to claw their eyes out.

Overall, 10/10, have read it again... and again... and again

Reading a novel is like a journey, sometimes you're fed up with the situation when it's getting boring, and sometimes it excite you so much.

That's the feeling I got from this novel. It's not perfect as there were still boring parts, but wholefully it is a good read.

I have to say that the author use a different way to approach thr readers. First we were shown to the rumbles of Sun Knight (I'll be honest that it was the most boring part of the novel haha). It wasn't clear, and... more>> it made me eant to throw this novel aside. Still after a quite sometime, I picked up this novel again, try to bear with it, and finally I found this gem.

The idea was really interesting, not some typicall hero-slaying-the-demon king, but the "hero".. Or not, whatever it is, but actually the demon king. Not only the story revolves around the demon king story, but the progression from everydays' events were fascinating.

Try to read it. The more you read it, the more it captures you

*ps I would like to see the continuation of Grisia's family. It's kinda cute haha <<less

Hey you. Yes, you.

Looking for a unique, hilariously cunning MC with a pechant of silly/snarky inner thoughts?

Look no further.

... more>> This WN is one of the most amusing 1st person pov novel in the whole NU. The inner monologues of our MC is just gold. Even the interactions between the characters feels refreshingly fun.

As you can read from the synopsys, our lazy MC is stuck into playing the role of The Sun Knight, a pepertually beautiful and virtouous leader of the holy knight, 24/7. He have to do a bunch of hilarious things to play this role perfectly, and so do all members of his merry bunch of so-called holy knights. But since they're still a knight, troublesome things bounds to pop up one by one. Now... how will our MC manage to handle them all while keeping up with the image of beauty and virtuousness that the Sun Knight have to strictly adhere? Xd

If you expects to find romance here, then there's none. Well... technically, there's a poorly executed romance at that the last arc, but I refuse to acknowledge it. But, if we're talking of bromance, that's a totally different story.

I have to admit though. The story became lackuster toward the end. Seems like the author thought that it would be a good idea to throw a bunch of new characters that we didn't care to the last arc—and oh boy, did they wrong. It's a convoluted mess; I'm practically skipping paragraphs while desperately try to get back to the MC.

But still, I think this novel is worth it. Do gives this

Alright, this is my all time favourite novel. hands down. Hence, I'll keep it short since.... whew, my comrades already leave almost all-5Stars reviews here. and had stated out their parts.

This story is very hilarious! Although a bit uncommon since it will be explained in a First person POV from the MC, Grisia. But although, it's a First person POV story, it doesn't mean that we know everything about the MC.

You'd feel like you really know Grisia because, again, this is First person POV novel. But later on,... more>> you'll find out... you're more or less also in the dark, as much as Grisia's other friends. Because even when narrating, the important points were completely hidden from the reader, it feels like he also hide his secrets from us his non-existent friends. Without, properly looking at his friends' POV, or his friend's reactions that he sometimes skimmed over, many hidden important things could be find in there.

Spoiler

Like how, even when he's blind. He's not announcing it in his head since the start like; "I'm freaking Blind!" But instead, you'll find out as the story proceed and when the other characters voiced their doubts.

Or that one time, his friend, Roland Hell, was panicking because of his sudden absent-mindedness and overreacted by shaking Grisia's shoulders which baffled Grisia, again, DO NOT BELIEVE his narration, he skimmed most important things, I found many new things reading this as a grown-up than when I was a young teen. Irl, Roland's overreaction was justified since Grisia always responded to him, and when he didn't, it was when he was a Demon King.

[collapse]

We never know his thought, don't be deceived by his carefree-ness in narrating his life. He also sometimes lied to you.

Their bond of brotherhood is so beautiful that I'm seduced to name my future sons after them... I don't think I'll have that many sons though. every chapters is long and satisfying.

Now I'm a grown-up, re-reading this again, I found new things about them and their subtle actions for Grisia's sake.

Spoiler

It started as soon as the first volume. The first time Grisia went to fight the 'Death Knight' in the plaza, there were at least four other Knight-Captains there, not only to control the raging undeads until Grisia came, but also to observe the fight upon knowing it was a 'Death Knight'

We had Ceo, The Storm Knight (The fastest), Georgo The Earth Knight (The best defense), Elmairy the Leaf Knight (Awesomest archer), and Ecilan the Ice Knight (Second strongest swordsman) lined up waiting for their Sun Knight to come and deal with the undeads he ordered himself from a certain necromancer for the sake of venting.

When Grisia jumped to 'fight' the "Death Knight" they all kept their eyes on him, not helping, but observing from afar, fully knowing the undead Grisia was fighting possessed no harm for their leader but still alert anyways because of the high death energy around.

And then Roland came rolling in, waved his hand, almost slashing off Grisia in half, and spilled Grisia's blood. What did they do? Their formation quickly changed from 'observant and support crowds' to 'Full Defense'

I did not kid you. I never realized this and just thought they were awesome back then but reading it again, Yu Wo did a great thing with the Captains subtle actions.

Grisia was originally the foremost in the frontline, but one slash, spilled blood, and his position quickly changed to 'the center of protection'. Ecilan moved fast, pushing Roland away with his swordsmanship, Georgo moved in front of Grisia and cast his Earth Shield, Elmairy ran and stayed beside Grisia.

A protective Offense to distract enemy -Ecilan.

Behind the wall of defense - Georgo

Beside the archer - Elmairy.

Whereas Ceo took control of the troops/audience.

Grisia went from solo to protected in a blink.

[collapse]

You got yourself, A sly, cunning, jade-like beautiful, handsome, smart and scheming MC, who always got his way no matter what.

You also got yourself, eleven handsome men with different 'flavors' and personalities in the same package as the MC.

You also got yourself OP teacher-character who was too badass for this world, but he take care of the MC as loving as he could be (Which is not alot, but very treasured anyways).

Oh! And awesome plot! of course!

What are you waiting for?! Still reading the reviews? Go ahead and read it dammit! You won't regret it! I dare to bet! But well... If you want bloody revenge story, this is not your cup. This story is even more awesome than those. <<less

If you are sick and tired of reading the Generic Cultivation Novels and want to read something new and refreshing, look no further and read this one. I had been reading all the completed novels here in NU with 2-3k chapters and there are times when I just want to read something fun for a change. I checked this one and NEVER REGRETTED my decision.

This is one of those titles where you will always have a smile on your face as your read every chapter. I mean, it's so light... more>> hearted and fun. However, there is action and drama as well, which in my opinion is AMAZINGLY executed. Kudos to the author for making an amazing novel. This is a story about a two faced knight leading a bunch of other two faced knights. It's funny, cute, serious and heart breaking all at the same time.
