I am a knight. To be precise, I am the Church of the God of Light’s Sun Knight.

The Church of the God of Light worships and serves the God of Light, and it is one of the three largest religions on this continent.

As the whole continent knows, the Church of the God of Light has the Twelve Holy Knights, and each one has his own unique personality and features.

To be the Sun Knight is to have shining golden hair, sky blue eyes, a compassionate nature, and a brilliant smile.

“The benevolent God of Light will forgive your sins.”

I must have said that line at least a million times in my time as the Sun Knight.

However, the greatest wish in my life is to be able to stand before the entire continent and roar, “Damn your ‘the whole continent knows’! This Sun Knight just doesn’t feel like smiling! I just don’t want to forgive these human tr*shes! I just want to pepper my sentences with ‘f***’!”

Unfortunately, even to this day, I continue to wear a smile as I say, “The benevolent God of Light will forgive your sins.”

I have to say this novel is one of the best to start off with. I have found many light novel readers that have started off with either this novel or another of Yu Wo's. The plot is steady, the comedy is perfected, and the characters are downright the best. One of the best starters, which was also my starter.

Comical, serious, dark, it just many stuff and emotions all mixed up.

It started light hearted life of Sun Knight, and bit by bit Yu Wo will bring you the other Knights and their relationship with the Sun Knight. Then there'll be troubles and stuff (?), and a lot of hidden stuff got uncovered. There will be times that the Sun Knight will show his cool stuff, and it's freakin' cool! Like when trouble arises in the town, he tries to protect the town, get his underlings patrol, and chases away... more>> and beat the intruders. Then there's something happened and Sun Knight got furious and everything became scary, emotional, sad, and that time my eyes became teary.

It may begin a little bit boring, but a lot of things will happen after a while. And the focus of Sun Knight will bring you understand him and his condition, relationships, emotions, logic, power and many more.

Reading this novel, will get you laughing, serious, tense, curious, surprised, sad, even crying at times. It'll be boring at times (not much), but even so I think you will still want to continue reading, as I did. Sorry, had troubles explaining without giving any spoiler.

TL;DR

It's interesting, have a lot mixed in but it do have a little of boring moments. But if you like other Yu Wo's novels, then definitely worth to pick up and start reading. <<less

With his/her usual flair, Yu Wo brought up a cunning lead to walk down a hectic plot full of hidden traps and schemes. In Legend of Sun Knight, the plot was smartly peppered with satire against religious organizations and political leaders. Whimsical and enticing, the story started off good and gets better in later chapters. If you like comedy, satire, and strong friendship, this one is definitely for you.

However, I don’t like the way the story has too many supporting characters. In the end, the one that grows as a... more>> character is just the MC and a couple others, although yes, all of the characters are unique. <<less

Began reading The Legend of Sun Knight just knowing that it was highly rated and good to read when in need of something light-hearted. Didn't expect to have so much fun following the amusing facade of 12 Paladins (Holy Knights) and the absurd religious practises they have to uphold, whilst finding elaborate ways to circumvent such strict traditions. Although not all Holy Knights are as fleshed out as the titular Sun Knight, at least they aren't as one-dimensional as their names would imply.

Beyond the initial hook; there's mystery, political intrigue... more>> and party adventures galore. The novelty of it all does begin to wear thin, but the cynical Sun Knight remains a fun characters to follow. And the major plot twists would keep most readers on their toes, as this author had me questioning certain tropes regarding the typical Demon King. <<less

Great story, characters, settings, and humor.

Great read to pass the time.

Some of the later arc plotlines could have been executed better, but this is still without a doubt one of the best translated novels here.

This series is funny, but is very inconsistant in its' main concept: the MC and main cast are supposed to be these idealized version of the preceding legends, but MC plays too fast and loose with it. He's exposed multiple times, and his powers are also weirdly unbalanced.

This would have been a solid 5 for me if the author continued with the same energy and style the first 3 volume adopted.

Chinese novels rarely use the first person perspective in novels. But not only the Author used it, she freakin nailed it even better than some jap and korean novels that are good but tend be just information dumps rather than being really the 1st person perspectives.1st person perspective's need really good skills to describe the story through someone and also make it amusing and include thoughts like... more>> what he was thinking while doing this. So i'll say it again, the author nailed it! From the start I was hooked, Even the intro of the character were not major info dumps like they are in most novels like this person is blah blah/he does blah blah but rather hilarious descriptions with our MC's thoughts and examples mixed in! Just the writing style was enough to reel me in and I loved it!

Even though the writing was good, we can't ignore the premise too! The name "LSK" gave me king Arthur or Appolo vibes but wow I didn't think it would be a totally different premise.12 holy knights and each being equally interesting and lovable character.I loved the hilarious yet light hearted pace of the 3 volumes where we get to know Grisia and his knights. How he cares for them, How is he as a character and his various adventures! It was honestly fun!

But vol. 4 onward the story took a serious turn. The 1st person perspective was still there and so were the occasional jokes. The author didn't make it do such a turn abruptly rather it was planned out with various foreshadowings. You could tell she had planned it like that from the start. But it did contrast with the first 3 vols.I still liked it though. Just because it contrasted with the starting 3 vols doesn't mean the story went down. It was still good and I didn't get the feeling like it was dragging out or I want to drop it (I'm extremely picky so believe me on that) but I will admit that it wasn't as good as the first 3 volumes. If the author had continued that style, it would have made it really a really unique one of its own kind novel but regardless as a whole this novel was great! (Its the author's choice. Just by reading seriously I could tell that she had planned to make the first 3 volumes introductory and the last 5 volumes into a serious action/fantasy tale from the start. So we can't really complain when she pulled those 5 volume greatly too (even tho I still prefer first 3 vols))

Grisia has definitely managed to enter my favourite MCs list. God I freakin adore this boi. He's not a tr*shy two faced person but because he has to be nice and kind all the time, ofcourse, he will complain in mind and his personality will be different but despite all that I loved how he cared for everyone beside him and he was a great strategist (proven throughout the novel). I really love his 12 holy knights too. They were all very unique!

I originally wanted to give it a 3 but for me 3 is for really bad novels that make you lose your patience but Ofcourse that wasn't the case with this. Despite being a lil flawed, I freakin enjoyed reading this really much! Do I recommend it? Ofcourse I freakin recommend it.Y'all need to read this hidden gem. Its so rare to see western fantasy in chinese novels done great! Even though the late volumes are not really that much to my liking but I still think I might even wanna reread it because it was effin great as a whole! <<less

One of the best novels I ever read. Author do a great job!!! Very funny and easy to read.

This novel not anything like template cheenese novel. I like for unique characters and elegant sense of humor. I think elegant most appropriate word. You will burst out from simple things like conversation between characters, or description about situation or environment. Humor very elegant and not forced at all.

Spoiler

MC describe his colleague. This is knight of ice. Only choosen children with blue hairs can became knight of ice. But how many children born with blue hair? Right answer is none. That's why 7 of 10 knights of ice die due lead poisoning.

In short, this is a pretty great series, hilarious with characters you will love. Highly recommended. Crazy funny deconstruction of eastern fantasy knight tropes. Touching matters such as the upkeep nightmare that is having long and beautiful shining, which must also be hidden from the public or how annoying it is to speak like and to a devout Paladin. Surely, they can't really be that way out of the public eye, right ? The answer is yes, read the book to find the nitty gritty of being a fantasy knight.... more>> There is an overarching story in the later books, and while some later plot points are a bit weak, this is only compared to the very high bar this series sets in other places. Once it is over you will be itching to see more of the characters you grew to love (and there are some incomplete sequels and crossovers, but the 39th is just barely readable)

There is actually a message to this series that is conveyed clearly yet is not used against you as a blunt weapon, that friendship and good relationships are extremely valuable. The benefit is reading this is both very fun and yet doesn't leave you with an empty feeling you might get reading about an OP useless person that has conquered the universe or some nonsense. <<less

This was an amazing novel. I can't remember a protagonist that I liked this much except for the one in this book. Most of the main characters are really likeable. This book really has it all: comedy, friendship, emotional moments... Well, there is no romance involving the protagonist but honestly I think it's really a breath of fresh air.

5/5 Would read it again.

One of the best comedy novels listed on NU. The novel tells the story of a cynical, sarcastic man who is constantly trying to get away from playing the role of a perfect and benevolent Sun Knight that needs to praise the God of Light in all his waking hours.

The story is very entertaining and lighthearted. The characters in the story all have their quirks and unique personality. The overall plot is simple and well thought out. There is not much world building, but for a comedy novel it is... more>> more than enough. I would definitely recommend it for those that want to read a lighthearted fantasy story filled with hilarious moments. <<less

I'm only half way done with this excellent novel. I've been looking for a novel like this for a very long time now. I can't believe it's escaped my sight for so long. The main character is comedic, serious, and self-sacrificing at all the right times. I never snooze when reading this. The all-time ranking for this novel should really be higher.

I came to this novel, while reading another of the author's work: Half Prince.

This novel is simply fantastic. I enjoyed reading it very much.

I enjoy novels which can make you feel something and this one was one of those. You can actually laugh with the characters, feel their camaraderie and care, somewhat feel their despair and even sarcasm was well transmitted.

The best.

I definitely enjoyed reading it.

I want to thank Yu Wo for writing this.

I also can't thank the translators enough for their great work at translating this.

Fun story full of camaraderie and quotable liners to enjoy. At times it's adorableness can almost get a little too much, however, fortunately it never does. Quite enjoyable to read, and totally work-safe. Definitely re-readable!
