The washed-up magician Zong Jiu transmigrated into a horror, infinite flow novel about a survival show, taking the place of the cannon fodder who died tragically in the first evaluation round. This show was very interesting. Out of the tens of thousands of people, only a hundred people could survive, and the c-position (strongest contender) could even get a universal wish ticket.

If it were someone else, they’d probably be scared to death.

No one expected that Zong Jiu was not only unafraid, but also caused a sensational stir, shamelessly showing off his tricks the whole way.

Once his tricks stopped, and his life could be considered safe and sound, he ended up in a rivalry with the novel’s big villain.

Today you try to get at me, tomorrow I’ll get you back, back and forth, it’s pretty fun, heh.

As a result, though it was just playing around, one time they got carried away and really did end up sleeping together. Watching the nemesis who was pressing him to the ground, Zong Jiu lazily lifted his gaze. “If you want to kill me then kill me, don’t speak nonsense.” Even when at a disadvantage, he showed no trace of fear, and actually continued to provoke him.

That person used his ice-cold finger to trace his ear, and the action heading toward the aorta suddenly stopped.

“What a pity. I’ve changed my mind.”

He was once very willing to personally give Zong Jiu death. Every day, he used to regret not gouging out his flesh, personally snapping his neck. But after this person fell into his hands, another, more urgent desire grew like weeds.

Compared to winning or losing, he would rather see him crying and panting, with eyes red, begging for mercy.

I do really like the relationship between the ML and MC, they’re both a bit evil and the dynamic between them is very thrilling. ML is legitimately actively out to mu*der MC which is... refreshing... I’m not too good with horror but reading it is definitely easier on the heart than watching it.

Taking a bit of a break from this, but will definitely return!

Bite sized review:

Thriller Trainee is dark, thrilling and a little sexy at times. Lots of faceslapping and this couple is ENEMIES to lovers. This couple is toxic, powerful and h**ny - frankly they deserve eachother.

On a sidenote, the novel can err on chunibyo, hence the four star, but my personal enjoyment is a fivestar.

So...I finally finished it.

It was quite a ride, because it was so unpredictable. Instances were neat and unique, yes, but I felt the relationship between MC & ML overshadowed it. Well, I can't complain, because it perfectly embodies enemy-to-lover trope even to the last chapter. The author is quite skilled at turning the tables for MC in a way you won't think MC is OP. Anyway, I liked it very much.

Just, the instances weren't bloody or scary enough after the high-school arc. It was a bit disappointing after that. After... more>> all it's started out with the promise of some horror. Ah, anyway, the love was thrilling. <<less

Still on ch 36 but I feel malice everywhere, no friendship (only passerby have) pure competition and biting each other. MC so far only want to retaliate to ML not towards system that full of malice, and on 2nd arc already not feeling any strange being staged as opposite camp that needs to kill everyone except himself. 3 views shattered. Will try and see, but I think not my cup of tea. Especially no 3 views. The storytelling is great tho.

now onto ch 107

This story sucks make me cry everytime.... more>> Why the hell they became handicapped under the system rules? Can't even retaliate abit. They are hopeless against the NPC and rules of absolute death, damn system. Too full of malice and no way out makes me feel hopeless whilist reading the story. I need HOPE man.

ch 138

I'm tired my heart can't go on, so many ppl die and there're death flag every support character that I love. Need healing, will go to heart warming fluffy story 1st. <<less

I have always been a huge fan of unlimited flow type of danmei, so I thought this one would hit right up my alley since the other reviewers have also given it really great reviews. However, for some reason, I just feel like that something from this series is lacking though I myself don't know what it is. I have read 137 chapters so far but there's only one arc that managed to stir some emotions in me which was the First High School arc.

MC is an interesting character. He... more>> is very apathetic but he manages to hide it well under acting, since as a magician, acting is an important part of the performance. This isn't a spoiler, both he and ML have been described to be very similar in temperaments and thinking-style, it's just that MC took a completely different route from ML which intrigues ML to no end.

Now I always love me some good old "Enemies-to-Lovers" trope. Qiang Jin Jiu is one of my fave novels of all times and Welcome to Nightmare Live also has this trope. But for some reason, this CP just doesn't hit it for me, and I don't even know why. Instead I somehow shipped MC with Zhuge An which also got me a bit confused but the vibe is there. None of these people are good people btw so it's not like I'm shipping him with Zhuge An because he's like a decent person or something, it's just the vibe I got. I guess this is also one of the reasons why I'll be putting this novel on hold.

Before the First High School Arc, there are 4 other arcs which have been completely translated. The translation is amazing but the stories themselves are very forgettable. There's really nothing memorable about the previous four arc, except maybe the Famine Village arc and how gory one of the NPC died, but that's basically it. In the First High School Arc the author finally managed to make me cry and moved, the emotional ups-and-downs were great, it was basically a psychological warfare between trainees without many props involved but somehow managed to be more interesting than the other four arcs.

This arc is also the reason why I'm giving it a 4 Star instead of a 3, it's just a really good arc (emotionally) for me.

After this arc is the Amusement Park arc. I was also expecting something interesting from this arc, but for some reason it just fell flat to me and I lost interest in the novel soon after.

It's not even me having a problem with the ML - I have liked a danmei with worse ML before, WTNL is definitely one since ML literally wants to eat MC - but there's just nothing there. At least up to the point I stopped reading it, I just feel like there's nothing that could get me to be invested enough with the main CP. I do not have a problem with assh*le ML or even assh*le MC, I genunely love well-written-flawed characters with questionable morals, it's just that in my experience as I was reading this, I feel like MC has more chemistry with Zhuge An or even with the
Spoiler

original Zhong Jiu's fiance, Van Zhuo.

[collapse]

My friend is going to finish this novel so I'll just wait for her opinion later, whether she likes the CP or not at the end, since we usually have similar ships and taste. Granted, I've only read half of the novel so maybe they will have more chemistry later on? <<less
