Ruan Xi was reading a novel with a laid-back female protagonist at her own leisure. When she woke up again, she had transmigrated into the book and became the female supporting character with a good life, Ruan Xi, of whom the female protagonist envied.

In the story, the character Ruan Xi was the replacement for the engagement that had fallen through because her transmigrated, legitimate older sister, Ruan Ning had abandoned her fiancé from a rich family. Later, Ruan Xi was pampered to the heavens by her husband and became the winner in life as an imperially mandated first-rank wife to an official.

Ruan Xi, who had transmigrated over, watched as her transmigrated legitimate older sister prepared for that marriage happily. Similarly, her legitimate mother had also decided on another marriage agreement for her.

Ruan Xi: “……”

Years later, after the sister is suffering from her husband’s family, she came to Ruan Xi to see her struggling with misery. When she stood at the door of Ruan Xi’s house, she watched the cold and violent man in her previous life hold her in the palm of his hand with all kinds of wealth and love.

Giving this a 5-star review because the current ratings are abit too low imo, but honestly this novel is more of a 4-star.

this novel is easy to read and relatively simple. All schemes and plots are uncovered very easily, while that's not a bad thing but as someone who prefers deeper plotting and the humanisation of villains to add more intrigue and a deeper sense of connection we see none of that. No villains really face any repercussions and repent for what they did, they are just removed from ever... more>> causing trouble again... and that prevents it from being truly satisfying. Then again this isn't a revenge novel

The character setup for the FL and ML are absolutely wonderful (except for how OP they are) and that is honestly what kept me hooked till the end. I love how respectful the both of them are to each other, and the ML is honestly one of the best MLs in c-novels (the top is still xjx from malicious empress for me) — I especially love his interactions with his mother! I've yet to see a ML who has such pleasant parents honestly. The FL is extremely likeable as well, but truly she's very OP and most obstacles are easily cleared

would definitely recommend for an easy read and for laughs <<less

So the entire premise of this novel, is a book within a book within a book. The novel's legitimate third miss, Ruan Xi's legitimate sister mentioned in the blurb is a transmigration "protagonist" as well. Only for the middle ring around the inner ring.

Ruan Xi, is the protagonist for the outer ring in this premise. Which is the ring, that the novel that is being read.

Spoiler

The inner ring's protagonist is eventually revealed later on as well, and she too, is a transmigrator.

[collapse]

The rings that I'm talking about, is almost exact as the math diagrams showcasing the relationship of Real numbers to fractions to integers. Which is complicated, but I'm just using the diagram as a reference on how the book within a book within a book works.

Each "book" has their own plot to follow, which is the underlining rule of this particular novel. Which also helps support the other rules for outer ring, once you understand the "rules" then the other ones are more readable.

Spoiler

The inner book's "rule" is that the inner protagonist must be with that particular ML. The middle book's "rule" is to have the protagonist have many accomplishments to further develop the setting world. The outer book's "rule" is to have it's protagonist to have little difficulty in passing conflict, which is seen in the other books "rules" too.

[collapse]

Overall, I greatly enjoyed this, while yes Ruan Xi's sister is used to help further along the plot to some degree. It's likely that if she wasn't used, technically speaking, the romance would be the same as it would be with using the sister as a plot pusher.

Spoiler

She's just that one person you'd get along with at first, only until something bad happens. Then she leaves you in the dust, which is technically a fake friend. But like with most fake friends, she comes back once something good happens.

[collapse]

While I don't understand the use of both female and male supporting characters. I assume that this is just a cultural thing for most Oriental country authors. Like how most English authors use the path of a Hero as their formula in writing. <<less

If you like a sweet story with side dogblood plot, this is for you. It's not bad, but it cannot be said that it's good either.

It was a lax ride for the main CPs. Their romance is sweet and normal, boring tbh.

The side characters is what make me ticked off. Yes they are shitty, no-braincells to be seen but these characters are made by the author to be as such. The thing is, side characters CAN be used to further the plot, but the way author did it? Ugh. It... more>> was headache-inducing to see how the author utilized these characters as stepping stones for the CP, such as:

Ruan san-niang/Ruan Ning:

Spoiler

She was a college student. But good GOD she was not allowed to have any brains at all in this novel other than just giving the emperor some cool invention from the future. Yes she is a jealous bit*h yes she envies for things far beyond her reach but she was just written as a brainless cannon fodder who cannot see a moment of happines from MC and I hated that. Those are her only personality, smart in inventions, jealous of anyone having a good life, shitty at making plans that it backfired badly on her, and her fear of the emporer. She's just a puppet for the author to speed the plot. I have placed higher hopes on her being much clever but no it was nothing but dust. I am just— sigh. With how much golden finger she has, I am dissatisfied with the execution that's all.

[collapse]

And not just Ruan Ning, other cannon fodders such as Mu Qingling is handled rather distasteful too.

I gave this two stars, docking one for the bland romance, one for the wasteful handling of characters that could have been given more personality to give the stories more flavour, one bc it doesn't make me feel anything. <<less

Although, there's a multiple transmigrated people from modern times (3 in actuality) and 2 got reborn, even the OG Ruan Xi of the novel (the one who married Qi gongzi) , got a chance to be reborn and have her happy ending with Qi gongzi again even if she was in different body.

Anyway, you can say that the MC, transmigrated Ruan Xi, got a ' good luck halo'. It is not an OP golden finger but was needed and a must in her current life.

Unlike Ruan Ning/San Niang, she got a 'platinum level' of golden finger (having a healing system and a plentiful knowledge of modern inventions blueprints). Although her golden finger is a first class but she lacks the proper IQ for that time era (she got the modern concept of lifestyle). On her 1st transmigration, she lives as if there's no Emperor above all and even if she knows, she thinks that ancient people are s*upid and got that supremacy vibes that she's above all. In short, she's courting death in a lavish way 😅. Maybe that's the reason why the Emperor edicts her to follow his deathbed.

On her 3rd life, being reborn in transmigrated novel. She didn't acts lavishly just like her 2nd life. Since she's envious of her 4th sister's life from the 2nd life of her, she wants to continue the engagement of her's to Qi gongzi (the one she was engaged with and push to her 4th sis on her 2nd life). Pity, she doesn't have the memory of the OG Ruan Ning in both lives where the OG already 'insulted/looked down' Qi gongzi, making Qi disgusted to her.

Later on, still, Ruan Ning keeps pestering people around her, dragging people to a pit or shameful manners without feeling remorse as if they deserved it and its their fault first. Ruan Ning totally lost her braincells 🙄🙌. At least, she didn't lost the 'inventions' due to lack of IQ.

In the end, she still follows what's the supposed plot of the OG novel (Plot-sama is actually strong in this regard, although some things diverse from the OG novel but the end result is there 😬).

Speaking of the OG novel...

The OG novel is supposed to be, Mu Qingci, the novel's female protagonist, is a transmigrated modern girl to ancient times. She doesn't have a golden finger and only knows to eat good food 🤭. It wasn't mentioned what her previous life but always mentioned that she's a foodie 😅. She later on marries 4th Prince and bear the 1st son of him that will be the future Emperor making her the Dowager Empress. Its supposed to be a slice of life type novel for her.

Whereas, her fellow transmigrator, Ruan Ning, got a golden finger of a healing system and a plentiful of 'inventions' and 'discoveries' on her plate when she got transmigrated. It makes her feel that she is like the protagonist of a novel. She throws away her engagement to Qi er gongzi (an illegitimate son of a Marquis family) to her 4th sister, Ruan Xi (an illegitimate daughter of an Earl family).

She lives a lavish life and 'invents' a lot of useful things and even 'discover' high yield crops and seeds, making her a well-known young lady that's being admired by many low to top class men. Also, making the Imperial family aware of her, specially the current Emperor 😏 that she laters regret. Since she was an unmarried girl in a noble family, the Emperor (who's on his 50s) makes her his concubine (since she cures the Emperor of his illness via her healing system). This Emperor is not that muddled not to used RN well and later discard when his life ended, avoiding trouble for his descendants.

When RN becomes the concubine of the Emperor, she really hated it since she wants to marry good looking and top class man (like Wen Ting Zhou and later on Qi Yue An-the ex-fiancé of hers). She regrets a lot of things and envies her 4th sister's good married life with Qi er gongzi. Making it her demon when she got reborn.

[collapse]

I like how the translator puts explanation to some words and phrases. She also retains some Chinese words for the proper title or name called, since chinese got specific name calling towards family and there's no English equivalent of it, so retaining those titles is better than translating them literally making it quite nuisance.

I also like, how the author put another ending or rather Epilogue and an extra chapter to the story, making it a good ending to almost all people (specially that last life of the OG female Protagonist, she totally deserves it).

So yeah, maybe I've written a summary of spoilers 😂. But, try reading it and maybe it's your cup of tea and you'll like the novel. You'll surely understand what I'm trying to explained in my spoilers 😹😹😹 <<less

I like it but I don't love it. Not my favourite but also not the worst. In my opinion, I would just tell you to read it to form your own thoughts and comments because all in all, my scale tips more to the favourable side. A super light read and it all just seems very convenient for the female lead, so at some point, the story becomes a little bland. However, the FL and ML's relationship is really cute and there's not much drama actually. Most of the drama... more>> is really just for the sake of having a longer story. The antagonist is really really s*upid and silly. S*upid to the point where you're just frustrated and angry with the character. Overall, it's not a bad read to pass time.

One thing I really love is how detailed the translation is. The translator of the story would explain everything in a clear and concise form and would even include pictures to show how the descriptions in the passage would look like. <<less

The author gave so much plot armor to the FL, it's literally indestructible. Everyone that needs to magically has a good impression of her. They lend FL a helping hand whenever she needs it. Respect, protection, guidance, good marriage, etc just drop into her lap but the author makes it seem like the FL herself worked to make it happen. When she didn't. The whole thing is just illogical.

Spoiler

like how her calligraphy level recovered after a few days of practice

How she can miraculously sense when something is poisonous

How her marriage literally dropped into her lap despite all the factors against it. Like how zhang shi suggested it to wen furen despite how much she hates concubine born children. How wen furen even mentioned it to WTZ despite the fact that FL is a concubine born daughter and all the rumors about FL up to that point were that she's beautiful but mediocre. Like I get the process about how WTZ convinced his mother and grandmother. But why did his mother even mention it to him in the first place? Like wouldn't the normal reaction be to just disregard and forget about it because the suggestion itself is just so ridiculous? Like a small noble family is suggesting that the handsome intelligent heir of an important minister, the di grandson of an imperial princess should marry the unimportant noble family's concubine born daughter whose only reputation is that of being a beautiful but mediocre female.

How she miraculously knew to trust her fiancé even though based on whatever was revealed in the novel she read should say otherwise. Like he's supposedly gay and he's the minister in charge of the boards of punishment (which I assume is the ministry of justice) and he's characterized as a ruthless character. Based on this, why would she instantly trust him enough to ask him for help and reveal her real personality the first time they met?

How ML sent in lin mama to teach FL which also provided her with protection and support in her natal family. I mean yeah ML's fam is superior to FL's but why would FL's fam accept it? I mean it's basically exposing the internal workings and issues of FL's fam to an external party. If it's like FL was marrying into imperial fam, it's understandable because FL has to learn imperial fam etiquette which is unique and it's actual historical procedure. But in the case where a noble fam is marrying another noble fam, it just does not make sense that the author tried to make it seem acceptable.

How her father's wife suddenly discovered antagonist took over her daughter's body, so she kind of stopped targeting FL and started targeted RN.

How everyone that matters just likes her immediately, like lin mama, ML's mother, ML's grandmother, ML's cousin.

How FL was all about laying low to avoid attention and she tried to keep to it even after she was engaged to ML. But suddenly she just stopped laying low and it was all good.

how her grandmother started supporting FL after she revealed her true intelligence. But shouldn't the fact that FL is engaged to ML be more than enough? Even if FL was a low key mediocre person, it's still a big jump for her family for FL to be able to marry ML. Like FL's grandmother and father are shown to be huge pragmatists, so unless FL is awful, why wouldn't they immediately put in effort into supporting FL. Why does the author make it seem like they supported FL because of FL's intelligence rather than it solely being based on her marriage?

[collapse]

And the author just creates or makes up whatever the heck societal rules she wants while still trying to make it seem like it's still within the confines of normal ancient Chinese social customs. But it's really just way too liberal for the supposed time period.

Spoiler

The way they can openly meet each other in private. when ML's servant just came over and asked FL to meet ML, and they just chatted alone in a room without any accompaniment from their servants. his mother knew and it was like not an issue because ML is the one who asked so it's ok.

the way it's ok for engaged couples to date openly at parties and ML's cousin even asks FL if ML has held her hand yet. it's ancient China. Talking about holding hands??

the way ML hugged FL in public at the entrance to her home. There was some crap excuse that the carriage blocked the view of this. But cmon? The carriage blocks out one side, how can it block every other angle?? like if the carriage blocks it from the front there's still the right left and back view of this??

and what irritates me the most is that the author can't seem to make up his/ her mind about the societal environment. On one hand, it's conservative like how MQC originally became 4th prince's concubine because she fell on the 4th prince. Like she fell on the guy fully clothed but that contact is enough for her to become his concubine. but it's also so open minded that just because ML and FL are engaged, it's ok that they publicly walk around together, it's ok that they exchange tokens and flaunt the tokens from each other, it's ok if they hold hands, it's ok if they hug, it's ok if they flirt publicly, it's ok if they meet in private. It's just... irritatingly different. stick to a construct instead of wildly veering from liberal to conservative depending on how the author wants the story to progress.

[collapse]

The antagonist is also too outrageously s*upid and rude. Like yes she doesn't have any memories of her OG body's life but she has lived through 1 life in ancient culture right? Shouldn't she at least be slightly more intelligent about social customs and interactions??? Rather than an adult she's like a 2 year old child in how uncontrollable her actions and words are.

I mean if the novel were written in a more comical way, then maybe the plot holes and irritating characters wouldn't annoy me so much. But the tone of the novel is just kind of calm and insufferably smug. <<less

Liked the story. I like be the FL personality. She is very hard working in order to fulfill her new role. The story doesn’t have much face slapping and when there is it’s pretty swift and deadly. The villainess ought to be one of the biggest idiot I’ve seen in that role, even with all the cheats she has she managed to make herself unhappy.

This book has become one of my favorites, and is highly recommended. Placing some points, I will write some spoilers, read at your own risk.

• The translation is without a doubt the best I've ever read! Plus all the sayings and unknown Chinese words were explained wonderfully!

• It's a slice of life, it doesn't have extreme situations to make readers distressed, so it's not for readers who want to read the intrigues of a harem.

• The husband of the first life is not the ML, but rest assured he also... more>> has his happy ending with his destined partner.

• One thing I really admire about this book is that even supporting characters had their endings written, even if in a superficial way.

• In my view, there are no plot holes, everything is in its place.

• I liked the way their love wasn't something "at first sight" but something that developed with the interest they both had.

• ML is sweet and kind despite being sly, he is not your typical yandere it's really refreshing to read their romance.

• FL is smart, beautiful and lucky! And your golden finger, despite being very small, for me is the best a woman in ancient China could wish for.

• The villain is transmigrated and reborn she has all the powers with healing system knowledge of manufacturing various things, but on the other hand she is s*upid, very s*upid.

• It's basically something focused on the love of the protagonists <<less

This novel is very chill? I didn’t get too far before decided to stop, but the basic premise is that there are three female transmigrators thrown into one setting. One is the novel’s protagonist, who hides in the shadows in order to avoid the showy transmigrator (I haven’t actually seen Transmigrator1 in text yet so idk what she’s like). As for the showy transmigrator, this is the FL’s older-di-sister who has a medicine-related golden finger and many money-making ideas. In the novel, the OG!FL was someone who was naturally lucky.... more>> She had a good marriage and lived an prosperous life with a good husband and sweet children. Because of this, she earned the envy of the Transmigrator1 and Transmigrator2 (who was reborn in this life).

The novel seems to be mainly about the different paths the three Transmigrators take. Transmigrator1 is a mystery. Transmigrator2, who was reborn, has eased up on her showy-ness but still refuses to back down when it comes to spreading her fame. As for Transmigrator3, our FL, she has to battle it out with Transmigrator2 while preparing for her marriage with the ML — who mysteriously agreed to marry her even though he remained unmarried in the original novel.

RATING: __

I’m keeping the rating blank because I didn’t read much of the novel. My opinion is so-so. I lost interest too quickly because the FL’s fate is a bit too good. Which is my fault really LOL, it clearly implies on the title and the summary that this is more of a feel-good, self-indulgent story where not much happens. Just a FL winning in life with luck and ‘natural’ ability. <<less

This novel was surprisingly endearing. I found myself enjoying the hilarious antics the villains get up to and their strange thought processes. Since everything goes well for the FL, you need the constant messes the villains kick up in order to make the novel interesting.

I do think the golden fingers that the FL get are a bit illogically good. Her luck is so good, and it makes no sense. She's not really obviously smarter or better than many other characters.

The only good thing about the FL is that she doesn't... more>> covet what isn't hers, doesn't have petty thoughts, and doesn't take other people at face value. <<less

Great translation!

The story itself is very "laid-back", just like the title! It's entertaining and an easy read, where everything goes smoothly for our MC and ML. I wish there was more of a focus on how the MC overcame her inferior status or something instead of being so easily accepted by everyone. Any conflict that she does face is easily resolved, which doesn't make for a very exciting read, but overall I still enjoyed the novel.

While many people seem to criticize the legitimate daughter / sister of our MC as... more>> being s*upid and a terrible antagonist, I think the author did it on purpose. I'm not sure if the author is trying to make a point about being unable to avoid your fate, like another reviewer said, because the fates of many characters in the story changes. I think it's more of a commentary on what people who can adapt to changes in their environment and can assimilate into society / culture, and what happens to people who can't.

Spoiler

For example, the sister / legitimate daughter is a transmigrator. She is aware of the novel's plot, has "golden finger" and given her birthright and family background, she could have had an ideal life (or as ideal as a woman could have had in ancient China), but instead, all her plans backfire upon herself and in the end, she ends up with a worse fate than her previous life because she refuses to conform. Basically, her behavior is abhorrent and her lack of self-awareness only causes things to exacerbate.

[collapse]

The relationship between the MC and ML is sweet, but not very exciting. I would have loved if we had found out more about the MC and her original fiancee and how their relationship developed. Similarly, I would also want to know more about the real protagonist of the novel and her different lives with the Fourth Prince. The extra chapter at the end was too short.

In short, a good, easy read. Characters are interesting enough that I wish there was more about them. <<less

It's a light read.

Romance is really cute, ML doesn't force himself on FL. Not much obstruction happened, so romance is smooth sailing. Not much distraction by side character as well. FL and ML is well balanced, both are outstanding, so it's not a Cinderella-kind of story.

Antagonist is really really s*upid, blinded by arrogance.

Spoiler

I was actually hoping she will repent and grow brain, but unfortunately no.

[collapse]

There aren't much fight. It's not a long read so plot mostly centered on FL and ML. Although there is also royal character, FL is daughter of official, ML is both official and son of noble, but there is no royal fight to the throne, or country-related crisis or something grand like that.

Although, the concept of transmigrating - reborn as the same character - reborn as different character on the same era - reborn as character in different era is confusing. Better forget it and not dwell to much in it. <<less

1). The MC got married and pregnant at 14-15. I know it's in ancient setting and it was normal at that time. I understand. I DO understand. But understanding it and liking it are two different things.

2. What's wrong with the 3rd young lady? She was s*upid, annoying, and a troublemaker, but they just let her be? While other villains (legit. mom, concubine of ML's father and her daughter) were killed? Is it because she didn't killed anyone yet, but they did. So it was justified to kill them? I am sorry but I had been waiting for her to be killed and had killed her several times in my mind. I am tired reading her s*upid actions, but she lasted until the end and wasn't killed... or am I too evil??

3. And the poisonous rogue/cosmetic. It was mentioned at one chapter, then was forgotten? Or did I skip how it was solved? I mean it was mentioned as the caused for ML's aunt death which made ML avoided female and possibly the death of MC's mother. I didn't read the continuation of this

4. And the last was the forever-young formula. What happened with that? Did the Yang get it back? Or...?

One of the best translations ever. Yuulation did a very good job explaining things and I really appreciate the notes.

This story tells us what happens to a transmigrator who flaunts her golden-finger, who is petty and thinks that she's very special because she has the power of knowledge and goldfinger.

The story revolves around a supporting character who was barely mentioned in the story but has a good life with a doting husband and children. The transmigrator sister envies her and tried to steal her fate by changing fiancee, this sister... more>> is very arrogant and small minded and so she's never happy and never content with whatever she has. She basically tried to ruin everyone around her with her pettiness but the supporting character, Ruan Xi, remained happy with a positive mindset.

Enjoyable with a good translation quality. The multiple rebirths/ transmigration of the characters can be a little confusing with th different endings of different characters except for the FL. She does have good luck as aside from her original self where she died young from heart disease, when she transmigrated and then reborn to 2 different lifelines she had a good life with doting partners. That Ruan san niang is the real loser and totally cuckoo - she deserved her outcomes regardless of how many time she’s reborn.

a lot of wholesome and fluffy-sweet dog food, mixed with satisfying and comedic face-slapping. The political and social conspiracies are not complex because they aren't this story's focus. The translation quality is really superb.

although it was a bit preachy at times, the MC establishes from the beginning that she aims to 'do as the romans do' and live within her means without ambitiously striving for unrealistic endings.

her 3rd older sister and the original novel's female protagonist serve as two extreme foils to MC's character, with MC being the happy moderate... more>> example. The 3rd older sister is short-sighted, arrogant, scheming, covets what others have, and absolutely can't stand seeing anyone have anything good. She is simultaneously a respected pioneer due to her knowledge as a transmigrator from the modern era, and a social pariah as her inappropriate conduct constantly becomes public spectacle. At the other end, the original novel's female protagonist just wants to live a peaceful and laid-back life, enjoy her days as they come, and eat delicious food. She has no ambitions to use her transmigrator- or protagonist-halo to better her life, and she genuinely enjoys shipping the MC and ML as a bystander from afar. <<less

This Novel is Absolutely Wonderful with Satisfying Ending!

This novel is slightly a Unique one. Because there's 3 Transmigrator female characters and ONLY MC who knew about the fact of all 3 (her, and 2 others) based on the novel she had read. And not only that, but this novel also showing about Other People's reactions if or when they find out or suspicious or aware about the Unusual Circumstances/Abnormalities that was shown by 'them'. It's really Interesting!

MC and ML is Smart. BECAUSE they're smart, when they encounter troubles, they easily... more>> solve or clear them all.

ML is Powerful, while MC is Smart, Calm, and luckily has a Golden Finger. Only shortly mentioned and brought up, but still an Important one! But also because MC and ML are Calm and Smart people, the story doesn't have much drama or conflict.

But the Villain... The One True LONGEST Villain IS SO s*upid!!! Gosh, she has the Biggest Brain Hole in the Universe of Villainess!!! Her Egoistism makes her so Evil and so s*upid!!! Like seriously, she COULD have chosen the Non Villain Route. She COULD be Greedy without being Villain. But SHE FCKING CHOSE TO BE VILLAIN AND THE HOLE IN HER BRAIN ARE SO WIDE AND ENDLESS!!! SHE'S LIKE A c*ckROACH; HARD TO KILL AND NASTY AF!!!

The Villain is also a Bad luck for the OG!Female Protagonist. But the extra chapter make us happy and relieved for her.

Anyway, Truly Amazing Novel and I'm Truly Loving it Sooo Much!!! For the Eternity and Beyond~! <<less

this is quite clever to be honest. It takes the typical rebirth story, cliches, and gave it a twist created a whole new feel to them. I really like that extra for the supposed 'female lead' and how she got her happily ever after all.",)

The story starts with a slow climb for the first dozen chapters, the midsection was idyllic, sweet, and comedic with a hectic and rushed followed ending.

Giving it a 4 star considering the setup was basic, transmigration + rebirth unexplained and random. The main characters are your typical Mr. And Mrs. Universe and kept themselves celibate, intentionally or not, until getting together.

Regardless, it still makes a very good read, relaxed and laid-back. The main contributing factor has to be the calm as a lake's mentality of MC, which I hugely appreciate.... more>> From personal preferences speaking, I do dislike main characters that fall into traps in oblivious manners and become agitated from the smallest set-off.

She worked hard to integrate and adjust herself into an unfamiliar world and put in her best effort to make her future comfortable.

Hugely appreciate the ML as well for his gentlemanly conduct towards MC.

He was never unbridled or tried to step on her bottom line by taking liberties and the like. The romance was natural, gradual, and touching. Another big plus to their relationship is how MC never went overly bashful by acting tsundere (the annoying way). Though embarrassed, she embraced the intimacy they shared.

More to their relationship:

Spoiler

They got married sooner than expected due to circumstances in the family and had s*xual interc**rse, multiple times, that led to having a child, but I suppose that's the realistic part of the story.

ML did plan on taking her hand in marriage soon after she had her coming of age ceremony and moving away from the capital and settling down in a quiet place. But due to ML's grandmother being close to death's door, the ML's family settled all the descendants of age's marriages in a hurry on the fact that bringing positive vibes to dispel the bad and their children would've had to wait on for 3 years as a mourning period. What's not mentioned is that marriage arrangements can possibly change during that period, which I've seen happen in other instances in other novels.

The wedding had to be consumed due to ceremonial traditions and one would consider the madam unfavoured if the master did NOT bed her (plus they needed to show to ML's parents the proof of their consummation in form of a white handkerchief stained with bits of her virg*n blood). The issue of her rushing in having a child at the young age of 15-16 was also due to tradition, mainly because the illegitimate branch was also about to have a child and ancient folks placed great importance on the legitimate branch having a son first.

Additionally to the positives, the story placed importance on the OG plotline, the side characters, and the villain of the story. Though you might feel like you completely understand her (villain) at the end but also not really. She's canonically described to be as resilient as a c*ckroach so brace yourselves for that.

OG Plotline rant and side character notes:

Spoiler

The OG plotline doesn't seem fitting for a novel at all, not from an FL's perspective nor from an ML's perspective. FL is bound to be a concubine of his whilst he's got a prospering harem despite heavily favoring FL. After ML became the emperor, FL remained as a concubine/noble consort. I do not consider the story to be targeted originally towards a male audience either, since this ML perishes very early on (35-40?) whilst FL's child becomes the next emperor and she the empress dowager. FL doesn't possess any hacks/golden fingers, merely a meek and mellow disposition and an unending love for the gourmet.

Unlike her, the side character in the OG novel who becomes later on a villain in the following was packed with knowledge and mysterious abilities. Any mysterious illness is no match for her and she brought along various progressive inventions and ideas. Using the knowledge, she progressively stepped ahead with great fanfare and flaunt but didn't even intersect with the main OG couple.

The laid-back side character (og Ruan Xi) and her overly glamorous and prosperous life had no impact on the OG story either, and seeing a couple thriving better than the main couple is definitely unheard of.

I'm truly baffled by the point of the OG story and this character's existence. She takes things for granted and treats everybody as s*upid despite not even knowing it's a novel universe. She's heavily afflicted with the main character syndrome also despite knowing she met a gruesome miserable end while others thrived.

Many would probably not be satisfied with her ending in the rebirth version, but I like that it's not overly bloody and vengeful. Harmful cannon fodders will be removed and those who can be kept in check, like the villain who's a rabid dog in a cage, can be ignored.

I can't believe I wasted my time and read the whole thing. The first half was good but it became repetitive. The author made the third sister into a very s*upid person despite being reborn a second time while the MC (as the title says) was very laid-back. Her sister paved the way for her because of her s*upidity. MYGOSH. This was a very frustrating read. The author didn't even dedicate chapters for the MC and ML's interaction with their children. The chapters were wasted with the third sister.

The translation... more>> was very superb but the novel sucks. <<less
