One day, Song Shuhang was suddenly added to a chat group with many seniors that suffered from chuuni disease. The people inside the group would call each other ‘Fellow Daoist’ and had all different kinds of titles: Palace Master, Cave Lord, True Monarch, Immortal Master, etc. And even the pet of the founder of the group that had run away from home was called ‘monster dog’. They would talk all day about pill refining, exploring ancient ruins, or share their experience on techniques.

However, after lurking inside the group for a while, he discovered that not all was what it seemed…

It's not funny at all. Not even once did I laugh. Rather childish.

Expected good slice of life comedy, but I got boring chat conversations.

What did I have high expectations of this novel, with it being so hyped some years ago? I should've known most of these hyped novels on wuxiaworld turned out to be mediocre or unbearable later on but their skewed reviews remained, and this novel fits this criteria.

Noveulupdates sometimes creeps me out. Yaoi, shounen-ai, gender bender, female lead and hyped novels have 4.5+ ratings despite being crap and... more>> poop, while real gems have 3.5-4.2 ratings. And because of that I have to read all reviews there, on other sites and also check the tags carefully...

If you want funny but at the same time serious novel check out The First Order. <<less

For most novel out here in NU many started with an intriguing plot but within 100~200 chapters it become rinse and repeat by the author with a cliche settings and muddle headed MC, or just going complete bonkers with face slapping, by 500~ chapters the story become mediocre at most, and by c1000~ it become more of a headache to continue reading.

But CCG is different, I'm currently at C2771 and I can vouch for the novel that each new chapter make you just more intrigued and wanting for more.

It's not... more>> a perfect novel by all means because perfection is subjective to everyone view but it's really an excellent work by author with a weak yet op MC, great supporting characters, bucket load full of misunderstandings, face slapping, comedy, epic action scene, budding romance and craziness to ultimate level. <<less

Surprisingly entertaining and funny. It doesn't get repetitive like a lot of long stories and the author is always introducing another element that's interesting or funny. Slow development (not necessarily a bad thing). 755 chapters in though and probably only a third of the way through the story. Recommended!

The beginning can be a little uninteresting, almost boring, as the MC needs to slowly come to the understanding that the world is lot more complex than he thought. However, I like that the author doesn't rush to have our MC find out cultivation is real but rather eases him into that world, it makes the story feel like its something that could actually happen. If you give the story a chance however, you get a story where the MC doesn't go from zero to OP in 3 seconds but... more>> a progression of lucky coincidences and hard work allow the MC to slowly grow in power. IMO the best part of this story, is that NO HAREM, the MC doesn't behave like a rapist and best yet women don't just fall on his c**k for no reason at all other than MC power and the author giving frustrated males fan service.

The story is very light on the dramatic goals like revenge or face slapping your adversaries who thought our MC was tr*sh... at time of read, the MC's number one goal is to fly on a sword. There are also moments that will make chuckle a little. All in all if you hate harems as much as I do and are tired of the same formula repeated over and over this will definitely be worth the time.

My one and only gripe with the story so far is how little world building there has been so far, other than the chat room and what happens around the MC there is very little going on elsewhere making the world feel a bit empty. I am hoping this will get fixed as the MC grows in power and starts going on more adventures. <<less

Short summary : Konosuba Xianxia version; instead make fun of fantasy reborn/transfer to an other world this novel make fun of Xianxia genre.

After laugh so hard, one thing I learn from this novel... you don't dead if you don't seeking dead (but sometime death is seeking to you XD).

CCG is definitely different from other xianxia novels, and even though it's a parody, it's a parody that's done well. The high rating and positive reviews are actually accurate.

But seriously, can you believe that the protagonist is a normal guy? He has no grand scheme to take over the world or some devious revenge plan... He's really just a regular college student who accidentally stumbled upon the cultivation world and decided to join because it seemed "cool." But because he's such a normal dude compared to other xianxia protagonists, it's... more>> easy for readers to relate to him.

The chat group's members are lovable dorks who constantly upset Song Shuhang's idea of them being wise and worldly cultivators. That's not to say that they're not badass, because they are. Another thing that sets CCG apart from other xianxia novels is how Song Shuhang doesn't start off stronger than his seniors. Sure, his growth speed is insanely quick, but there's still a lot of people who are stronger than him. The side characters are great, and despite the vast number of them, they all have distinctive personalities to set them all apart.

Keep in mind that the main point of this story seems to be the humor, so action scenes are somewhat few in number. Even so, the action scenes are well done.

I don't really think there is romance (so hurrah for those looking for xianxia without romance), as Song Shuhang is actually reasonable, because he feels like he doesn't have time for a relationship. A lot of girls do like him though, so I'm hoping it doesn't end up as a harem...

The only sad thing about the novel is how it makes me wish there really was a chat group like this, haha. <<less

It is a great novel with high quality translation the only problem is that sometimes the plot is going on a loop like the author can't decide what is he going to write or he just thought of it on the spot.

well overall its pretty good novel, fit to let off some stress on some heavy plots novel

i am fairly new to the xiaxia genre but with the few I read I really like this one the most. It has really interesting characters, allot of random seemingly plots wich somehow all fit perfectly together and a unique main character.

in most of the novels I read the main character is shy/evil/goody-two shoes etc. But in here the main character is neutral, but in a positive way. He isa good guy who puts family and friends in front but is not afraid to fight/hurt others if they are a... more>> threat to him.

all in all. Every chapter I read makes me want to read it more and more. <<less

When I first started this I didn't care too much about the novel, I just used it as something to read between novels but after a certain point it became one of my favorites. The main character is likable, the conflicts aren't an endless boring cliche conga line of typical crap you'd see in other novels, every character feels unique and has their own personality, and the story is well spaced with a good mix of comedy with small bits of serious parts to mix things up. My only regret... more>> is that I got hooked on this novel before it was finished.

Spoiler

It's a slow burner but you eventually start to get hints of something going on behind the scenes and what's great is that it doesn't seem like something that was thought up in the middle of writing the story at all. The little crumbs you get from the early parts of the story to the latest chapter that you initially don't notice along with the humor kept me hooked up until now.

Edit: how could I forget this one? Omg. I will add it back to my list and wait till it finishes or find mtl. Read till 900+.

Edit c664: still love it after a year.

... more>> at 200 something: Best novel I have read so far, I regret reading it when it only has 200 chapters translated being slowly translated at 1 ch a day with good but not exceptionally good translation quality..

Means, 1350 days till it catches up to original chapters currently translated. And it's still ongoing in COO, so more like wait 5/6 years before it gets completely translated. And this is a story I really don't wanna read with breaks and forget characters.

Really sad, wish I can time travel in future and binge read it when its completed. And a story I really don't want to end either. After reading this I haven't been able to read another novel just because they are so lacking compared to this one. *Sigh* mtl is too hard for me and don't understand chinese, endless wait starts now. <<less

I absolutely loved this novel. It is interesting and funny enough to keep my interest going and I don't want to put it down, when I had read through all the released chapters, I became quite sad due to knowing that there's 1415+ chapters out there that haven't been translated yet...

Well... I really recommend it. The start was a bit slow, but it became far more interesting around chapter 30+ when he starts to properly enter the cultivation world. The translations are of top notch quality, both the previous and... more>> new translator. It's different from other cultivation novels and we always have that light-hearted feeling going, it never gets boring. <<less

This Novel is super funny!.... it has ridiculous misadenstandings that are comedy gold but they get resolved some time later. The MC is a regular guy with really good luck that (ussually) gets him into trouble... The world setting is modern but with cultivation. But unlike other novels sometimes modern tecnology is more convinient than ''the old methods''... You hould deffinatly give it a try

I honestly love this. My only problem with it is that I personally have a hard to keeping the characters straight in my head. I often am spending lots of time trying to remember who people are. But in most respects it's a good story

Read this preferably after you have read most mainstream Xianxia as it's a fresh break. Relaxed, no constant young masters, comedy. Most people aren't trying to kill you, good friendships, not every female is a romance candidate, etc. Activities with friends and games. Travelling with OP seniors. MC slowly becomes incredibly OP, not a brainless way. Love the howness of his strength as the author elaborates (i.e., uniqueness of his golden core and nascent soul). Tried to do romance but failed miserably imo. Arguably one of the worst handled romances/harems... more>> I’ve ever seen. <<less

One of my favorite novels. The plot is consistently funny and light-hearted; you will never get bored of it.

My only gripe is that the quality of translation dropped a lost once you have reached 2000ish chapters and you would have to rely on your knowledge of the characters to finish reading it. Highly recommended!

It's definitely not perfect, but this is by far the most chapters I've ever read of something (next highest is about 2000). Some of the jokes definitely drag on, but overall it actually manages to stay pretty fresh throughout all these chapters.

It definitely chooses comedy over logic pretty frequently. There are multiple things that would've definitely made me drop it far sooner if it was a more serious tone (and eventually dropped anyway, but over 2k chapters later). The main ones are time bullshit, the romance, and dragged-out jokes, although... more>> there are definitely more problems. There are multiple of what strongly seem to be time paradoxes, although I haven't finished so I won't add the tag just in case. The romance is absolutely glacial. It's not too unreasonable based on in-world time, but based on chapter count... spoiler for progress:

There was also one of the girls that was basically forgotten by the author for a long time because he wanted best girl to win. I do agree with best girl, but the route to get there was pretty bad.

That I managed to read so much despite how aggravating I find those three things shows the overall quality. I highly recommend reading at least until a bit after he accepts cultivation as real, things really pick up after that. <<less

A fun novel which does not take itself too seriously - this means that no matter how absurd things are, it is still entertaining instead of tiring. The main reason I removed one star is that several subplots are drawn out too much with a lot of repetition which is a reoccuring problem with most webnovels. I specifically enjoyed the beginning and mid stages the most before the main character became too powerful.

The MC appears to be someone who is rather smart in the beginning, being able to guess some things or use his common sense properly unlike wuxia or xianxia MC, and the contradictions that happen make it a good comedy atleast in the beginning of the story

As the story progresses the level of things happening around him increases as should be, and althpugh the author tries to paint the picture that the MC is an incredibly common person with a lot of common sense, he fails. But what makes this... more>> disheartening is that he sometimes does it right, sometimes he actually makes the MC make a good decision but most of the other times im screaming in my head (" why wouldnt you just explain the misunderstanding instead of saying senior there is a great misunderstanding here and waste time is such a crucial moment !?? ") Its just nitpicks but if you are someone who enjoys small details then you will enjoy at the beginning but it will slowly turn stale as you enter the 700 ch mark.

Not self aware.

Everything that happens results in his profit, he never looses anything, he is basically a stealthy hypocrite or just an clever guy done so wrong he is an idiot most of the times , for example let me narrate

Ok so in one tribulation, some fellows lets say A, B, C, D are fighting and the opponent is so powerful that all of them are going to be knocked out, now out MC who is A in this case, also oesnt have anything to do, at this moment a sudden treasure of his makes other crouch down and hold their heads in a shameful position (this is necessary) in order to defend everyone (yes, MC doesnt have to do that) and this scene is ovserved by the audience, later in another scene a friend of MC is recommending MCs senior that if its too strong senior can just crouch down with hand on head and shake, that way you can pass the tribulation

Now what do you think should the response of the MC be ? He should explain that it was not the cpwardice of the others, but that his treasure forcefully controlled their bodies and there is no such way that this senior will be able to go against the tribulation like that ? Right ? But he doesnt explain anything. Now you might say okay so what if doesnt explain ? Thats the problem, if you read 500 to 800 chapters you will understand that his character is built like that where he likes to clear misunderstanding and hence the author clearly fails, or maybe his personality was meant to be that of a hypocrite <<less

The author is rather ambitious. They like set pieces quite a bit, but they just aren't handled that well. From what it seems like in the commentary in the webnovel about webnovels, the author seems to consider themselves a comedian first and a storyteller second. But they're strongest traits seem to lie elsewhere (like world building and character development). You know when a kid, about 8 years old, says their first actual funny things and then proceeds to repeat them over and over again? It's essentially like that... examples in... more>> the spoiler.

Spoiler

Handrails on a flying sword is a funny idea. If you agree then prepare to read about it like 300 times in 700 chapters. Think a tractor race with almighty cultivators is funny? No worries, we got a mini-arc and an exhaustive arc for you.

[collapse]

In short this story is about nearly immortal cultivators, bored out of their minds, hanging out and starting trouble. It's a great premise, but the delivery is kind of mediocre. <<less
