This is such an amazing story, many good creepy moments, cute, comedy, and the ML possessiveness is like any other ML novel but this one specifically can hold himself back, respecting the MC, giving him space, full affection, clingy but a cute form kind of way. I enjoyed this novel very much, thank you to the translators and editors out there for making this story possible for ppl like us to read and Happy New Year 🎉

I love MC cool & indifferent nature, with the storyline it's make me feel horror and comedy at the same time. I didn't know whether to cry or laugh.

At the beginning of the story it is very thrilling and intriguing. However, as it nears the end of the story, many things become convoluted and make it seem like they are in a hurry to finish the story.

I was still disappointed because there was no "you know what" scene with the yaoi tag, I thought with a bold attitude of ML... more>> such a scene would definitely arrive, but no. It's very dissapointing and frustrating <<less

First and foremost wow this was such enjoyable sht to read that I legit missed school for 3 days cause I couldn't sleep because I got scared but even so this novel Is so enjoyable that even me who dislikes horror couldn't even help myself to read it continuously rolls dawn that's jut how good it is

Next what I want to discuss alot of the character r so Fcking Likeable even the ghost 🤣 the MC would always smh turn a super terrifying situation into something so Fcking funny it's... more>> worthy of being in the Horror Comedy genre

This story is fun to read with genre horror & comedy. MC has unique way in handling each ghost & it never fail to make me laugh till the end of the book. Romance progress in this book developed very slow. But for me it is not a big problem as I am a person who care more on plot & their romance progress still developing even it is very slow. ML is not a character who truly indifferent towards ML. It just he has personality who difficult to open... more>> his heart unless he truly believe his lover will stay with him forever. ML is super possessive & always protect MC in dangerous situation. For me, this type of ML still can be accepted. Even ML is so strong but he seldom participate in discussion & give opinion in solving cases. He never interrupt MC in his mission & let him solved it by his own ability. I like to see MC be independent rather than depend on ML all the time. But I also hope ML showed more roles in instance but he can't because a specific reason. He more like a background in each instance when MC doing his mission. ML more like a bodyguard or butler to MC. There are a lot of review stated that this novel lacking in romance but at the end of the story there are more dog food & fluffy moments between MC & ML. Just need to be patient to read & enjoy the story. By the way, for me this novel deserve 5 stars because it never make me feel boring & able make me to feel rilex and laughing till the end. <<less

Its pretty alright and a somewhat good read.

the starting was really good and interesting but later on it became more and more bland and confusing.

I really found the ghost writer thing really confusing. It was super hard to make any sense of it but it was also an interesting idea but it was poorly written and made it very dull

the final chapters seem too rushed, maybe it's just me but I was hoping to have it more gradually.

the whole reality breaking was kind of foreshadowed and I thought there would be a lot more instances in reality until the breaking point comes. Like reality finally cracks slightly and then the finale happens.

but it is a pretty alright book and the translation is very good.

TLDR- The beginning's real good, the ending's rushed, the MC and ML are bland, lore is somewhat interesting but very confusing and not well developed. The mc's ghost collection rule!

The novel is pretty hilarious. The dynamic between the MC and the ghosts in every instances is something I always look forward however I’m not really a big fan of ML. He is such a creep and weird and I dont know why people like this kind of ML 🥴

Don't overlook the fact that the first genre listed is Comedy with a capital C. The MC is a bad ass and the story sells meng, not scares. And why must ghosts be malevolent? Maybe ghosts just need someone to talk to. Love the Little Yellow Book. Love the sidekicks.

I wanted to finish this story, I really did, but at chapter 66, my patience finally ran out. The MC is calm, level headed, and smart, which would normally be a good thing... if there was a decent foil to his persona or if he seemed to struggle with, well, anything. I'm all for a stalker/obsessive ML, but in this story he just comes off as pe*verted without really doing anything. The MC doesn't struggle at all with these "dangerous" instances and just breezes right through them and any time... more>> there would even be a hint of possible danger, the ML causally redirects him away from it. It’s like an episodic tv show; the state of the world and the characters never really change, even though each “episode” is moderately interesting. But after 100 chapters, I want to see character growth. And the MC in this story still hasn’t even shown that he has a personality in the first place, much less growth. There are also a few places where the MC pulls an answer out of nowhere without any logic whatsoever. If this were a tv show, I’d probably watch the first season and enjoy it,... more>> but I wouldn’t watch season two. The translation is great, though, and some of the ghosts are cute. <<less

I am not getting the comedy in this... So far, the MC is just an indifferent, good looking, yet lucky bore of a person and is even somewhat of a jerk. The side characters aren't funny or interesting either.. The ML is definitely the most interesting so far (his mysterious character, his plot in the story, and the way he acts), but I am not sure if this is good or bad.

I will check back when I read more.

I tried. The story was very familiar to me and I had the impression that I tried to read it before but can't remember why I dropped it. I think I dropped it right after the first instance. So here I am, a year or two later, picking it back up again. And it's still bad.

I don't know if it's the poor writing or confusing translations or maybe both but it's SO boring. Other reviewers have mentioned this, but the story was set up with so much potential but the... more>> execution was ???

An example paragraph in the early chapters that was weird for me:

Qian Yiwei pointed to the tree branch in his right hand. “Mr Xia, what is that liquid on it?”

“The mud in the pond, ” Xiao Li explained. “I just dipped it in twice.”

Qian Yiwei, “....... ”

T-Twice? He wasn’t sure that if he continued to ask the question, “Why do you want to dip it in twice?”, he might get a more wonderful answer such as, “Because it looks good.”

TLDR: this novel is funny, amd the characters are exactly what I signed up for when I decided to read it. Is the writing the most amazing? No. Are there others like this one? Yes. But I really like this one specifically and I've reread it several times.

I really enjoyed the humor in this novel. Many seem to have complaints about the plot, about how MC passes the instances, and how the ML acts, but here is how I see it-

The plot is typical imo for an infinite flow novel.... more>> The author has come up with a wide variety of instances but the focus is more on comedy than horror. There are two ways to survive- live a certain amount of time or solve the mystery. Since the MC chooses mystery every time some instances can seem very short and others can take a while. He also doesn't find out every single detail because the specific mystery he needs to solve is decided in advance by the instance. Moreover the MC operates very differently than most by pitting ghosts against each other and not being afraid to wander around and ask questions which makes him progress much faster. This is my second read through and I specifically chose to read it again because I enjoy the way he interacts with the ghosts. Again, this is a COMEDY with some hints of horror. If you are OK with being scared, this book is for you. If you specifically WANT to be scared, this is probably too light a setting for you.

The MC treats the ghosts like the rest of the people he encounters, and makes sure to stay in character according to the situation which I think can justify a lot of his survival rate. He doesn't treat the ghosts as default enemies and often finds himself helping them with various issues. He obviously has plot armor, but I don't think you can say there's no justification for him to progress as he does. Everyone else is focused on how they're surrounded by ghosts, while he focuses on the story and setting he is in. He's also smart enough to figure out the ghost traps because his way of thinking is different. I saw a comment that describes him as autistic and I don't think this is a bad description. The way he deals with people, ghosts, and the whole setting is very neurodivergent which again justifies some of the things he says/does. It may seem like his behavior and the logic behind it grows stranger later in the book, but I think this is because he is too used to the instances and no linger feels the need to exercise so much caution. By halfway through, he has enough connections with other ghosts to restrain the danger of whatever instance he is in. He also has the ML helping behind the scenes which is where the plot armor really shows itself.

Now for a controversial topic: the ML. A lot of people find him obsessive, creepy, and stalker-ish. What were you expecting?? That is the main template for MLs in this genre. When it comes to deciding whether to continue reading with an ML like this, I defer to the MC. Is the MC creeped out and afraid? Then I am too, and I don't keep reading. But in this story the MC does. Not. Care. He finds the ML to be annoying and slightly disturbing at times especially in the very beginning. But later he starts finding him somewhat cute. While the ML definitely doesn't follow all of MC's wishes when it comes to talking about his fantasies, he also doesn't take things farther. There are the dreams which bother some people, but I don't see the dreams as different from the rest of his behavior. AT ALL TIMES the ML has the power to do whatever he wants to the MC, and specifically doesn't because he wants consent. Does he pressure the MC? Yes. Does he stalk MC? Yes. Is he obsessive and possessive? THIS IS A BL HORROR NOVEL! YES!! Also, may I repeat, the MC isn't bothered by this behavior beyond finding it annoying or strange. He barely thinks about it beyond that. When they confirm their relationship he even mentions that it makes him feel secure that the ML is so obsessed with him, which is something he specifically mentioned wanting when asked what typse of person he likes, "They must like me, like me very much, only like me". Quite frankly the ML isn't any worse than other MLs in this genre and I'm surprised so many people find him specifically to be disturbing. Obviously these two aren't a great example of healthy relationship dynamics. Didn't think I needed to say this but maybe don't base your idea of a healthy relationship off of chinese bl psychological horror novels??? <<less

At first he was fine, he was clueless but that’s normal because it was their first time in an instance. But I had expectations that the more instances he does he’ll get at least a bit better at solving or at least understanding the puzzles. Hélas no, he continued to ask more questions and just can’t seem to connect the dots when asked a question that can lead to the answer. Even more when he turned into a brain d*ad fan of Sherlock

This is really a funny pure horror story 😭😭 Our MC Xiao Li is really very OP! Super OP! 😭😭

Our ML is one of my favorite characters in a story... It's possessive, obsessed, but our god has his own way 🥹 he's like a crazy psychopath but super soft and sweet 🥹😍

268+ chapters, and they got together very, very late!!! That's literally almost 90% of the story and they just got together, but trust... more>> me it's worth it 🥹🥹

Honestly, romance wise, I was a bit hesitant because of the ML however it did proceed smoothly afterwards because both the MC's and ML's personalities seemed to mesh really well together. Plot wise, oh boy. It was honestly very engaging and I was quite intrigued about that instances and how to solve them. Though be warned, Xiao Li is an unreliable narrator. The things you are shown and the things he reveals later on are vastly different.

I've read it years ago, it was one of my first "horror" novel concept and I loved it. I just spent last week to read it again, and after years of reading horror novels, I can see why some people says its lacking.

The story itself is not super scary to my opinion, some parts yes but overall its mostly comedy and mystery.

I absolutely love Xiao Li (MC), and the ghost friends, it's one of my favorite trope where MC is not scared and is actually on friendly terms with... more>> ghosts.

I wish there was more teambuilding with the ghosts.

I felt like the end was kinda rushed, there was some informations that was left forgotten, some mysteries unsolved. I'm also not super conviced by ML, but he's kinda like a wall flower so I didn't really cared about him, he's really just here.

But I still feel like I can recommend this novel, maybe is it a good way to introduce " horror " novel to scared newcomers in the genre ! <<less

I liked this in the beginning but as I read on it became repetitive. Maybe I will try again someday. I do adore the MC and ml. The side cast was also quite nice. It is honestly a fine story, it may just depend on your preferences. I kinda forgot about this so forgive meeeeeeeeeeee.

I've read up to 183 chapters. The beginning was very interesting, but the further you read, the more monotonous and fresh everything is. Yes, humor is present, but there is still no hint of the relationship between MC and ML. The history of ML is not clear either... In general, it's getting harder for me to force myself to finish reading, but I think I'll still master this novel. I would like more variety both in the plot and in the relationship between MC and ML...

Now if you're reading this, don't be discouraged by some bad reviews. This novel was an entertaining read since it was funny and has mystery element to it. I've always loved mystery novels so if you're interested in those type of novels, I recommend this.

I thought at first "don't judge a book by its cover"

But, after reading it through 1 till 11. I notice that some of other reviews can be taken with a grain of salt. If you read crowd of evil spirit before this. Than you can try it yourself how it is.

For me it's because the story line of this story are a bit low than crowd of evil spirit, so I felt it a boring. The MC how do I say it hurmm... well, yeah with that type of step-kother... more>> can't really blame him but, he could be happy anyway. Like your step brother was not wrong for being born. The parent are, don't expect something good from other towards you when you were not good to other and yourself.

Anyway, , I would come again when I forgot or when I'm extremely have free time <<less
