My Husband is Suffering from a Terminal Illness

Description

Xie Yang struggled in the post-apocalyptic world for many years until he was too tired to go on. Then he transmigrated into a young adult entertainment circle novel where the protagonists have easy, sweet, and satisfying lives.

The male protagonist of the novel is not just handsome and smart, he’s also reborn. The female protagonist of the novel is not only beautiful and works hard towards her dreams, she also has a cheat in her hands.

There’s a lot of male and female supporting roles, each having pretty face, nice figures and someone strong behind them. Get into any one of their bodies, and he could close his eyes and just enjoy life. But he didn’t. Instead he transmigrated into a young idol secretly married to the biggest villain of all — the male protagonist’s maternal uncle.

His title is husband but it’s more like a nurse. Because this novel’s biggest villain is a terminally ill patient who is gloomy and sick in the head (actually sick). Their marriage was to counter the bad luck (illness).

Xie Yang: Who cares if you’re the male lead, female lead, male supporting, female supporting, villain or protagonist. Get in the way of my comfortable life and you’ll die (:

I've read this novel twice (or thrice?) : once mtled, when translator updated again I read and mtl again? or not?, and now completed translated version again.

I have to say that

  • This story's plotline is well planned.
    Spoiler

MC's transimgrated into the book and all the charactors in the book are in the setting and almost no plothole.

    [collapse]
  • MC-MLs' love interest is so cute, so sweet, can handle each other's personalities.
  • Spoiler

MC, Xie Yang, tho deals with the book's protagonists... mainly female protagonist, Mu Zhou Yi, he don't step out of the limit until that person provokes him. So when FL provoked him tho.. all he does was protecting himself and the ones he cares. Even when FL has been lowest, he didn't hit her hard, just solve the problems cleverly.

    [collapse]
I saw someone say about MC's charactor that no one notices he changed, if you saw this I didn't mean to offend you, but it's just that original owner knew nobody and no one cares about original owner. All the friends MC got was after his transimigration and only person that could have noticed MC's changed was the former agent. (But that guys too do not have much contact with original owner so....)

I strongly recommend this book for ones who loves fluff, sweet and warm family stuff. The author gripped the every single things or events or charactors in well controlled and creat this book. And thanks the translator for bringing us this beautiful novel to us. Bless you.

TOTALLY WORTH IT

This story is raises main plot about entertainment world, and as we know plots about the entertainment world usually have the same general topic. But in this book there are other elements that make the story different (Although it is not something extraordinary, it is still an element which is rarely found in other common stories)

For me, this story was really moving and have a lot of things that make it fun to read. The reason is due to the nature of ML where he has a... more>> tsundere nature who followed by a clumsy and shy nature.

Although I think there are still some clichés about some minor characters, the secrets behind the system and the reasons for transmigrating. But I think it wasn't something that really got in the way of the main plot and ruined the story, so it could actually be seen as a passing thing.
Spoiler

Even MC himself hinted that he didn't really care about the mystery of the system when he managed to swallow the last pieces of system data.

[collapse]

And this is was my favorite part in the whole story... 😭😭😭

Spoiler

Qiu Xing lowered his head and allowed Xie Yang to act. Mother Qiu and Qiu Xing were calm while Xie Yang's expression was relaxed. He even smiled while teasing Qiu Xing's hair. It was obviously a very warm scene but Feng Qinglin was inexplicably sad.

[collapse]

Here the other of my fav part😭😭😭

Spoiler

In the first photo, Xie Yang sat on a chair in the rest area of the coldly lit police station with unbearable fatigue in his eyes. There was a bouquet of broken roses in his arms as Qiu Xing half-kneeled in front of him, bald, thin and in a hospital gown. The two of them stared at each other and their eyes made people feel sad.

In the second photo, in a corner of the brightly lit and warm auditorium, Xie Yang had finished the wedding ceremony and sat on a chair with a large bouquet of champagne roses in his arms. Qiu Xing was half-kneeling in front of him and reached out to help him tidy his hair with gentle eyes. The two of them stared at each other and the scene was so happy that people couldn't help smiling.

The one who posted the photo was a small blogger and she added the text: I watched you go from the hospital gown to the wedding suit. The journey wasn't easy. I wish you happiness.

Netizens saw the two contrasting photos. At this moment, they no longer felt envious of the grand wedding of the two people.

Instead, they envied their love.

The MC and ML interaction is really fun to read. It will make you laugh out loud. There no major misunderstanding between the couple and there is no unwanted drama. ML try to portray he is tuff but actually he is very soft inside. Some people might not like this novel as the MC is too OP and it’s like he can predict everything that will happen; and some time it’s too much (one will when you read it). But it was fun to read for me as I don’t... more>> use much of logic to read novels and some will disappoint you.

Just finished reading the novel. The faceslapping is satisfying. Unlike some novels that the problems need many chapters to resolve, this novel's not. The MC is calculating. He knows the very move of people who wants to harm them. All in all, it's a good read.

This is one of the stories where it feels like there is a divide in slight quality between the 1st & 2nd part. To be fair overall it's still good.

However I'm not sure if it's just me but the first part was better paced out and more interestingly written than the 2nd part.

There is a sense of the 2nd end half ish being dragged out as if the author themselves didn't know how to end it. I think it bothered me that Yang's own company, artists, the nephew, and people... more>> we got to know in the 1st part felt meaningless and almost non-existent compared to the MC & ML. Its a feeling of ok so you're just gonna throw them away and give them almost no meaning near the end?

It's not bad at all. Don't get me wrong. In fact, the ending could be quite interesting if it was condensed more and I think edited more so there's less of that feeling that the author is trying to figure out how to get to the ending. I think they had a solid outline but the execution near the end felt just slightly too 2-d in writing. <<less

Don't let the sparse low reviews push you away from reading.

This is one of the few novels here that I can say is very complete in every sense. All the loose ends were tied together in a satisfying ending. Both the MC and ML experience actual character growth through the story until the very end.

Spoiler

The ML, Qui Ying, is your overbearing CEO, but! With a twist, he's a rare pokemon that has growth throughout the story. He's not omnipotent. He's vulnerable. He's sensitive. He is self destructing levels of considerate. He's not your average wolfish ML that only knows how to treat his partner like a damsel and only thinks about s*x all the time. Dare I say it. He has layers.

He's a tsundere, sure, but he's like that for a viable reason. He doesn't want people to close to him because he doesn't want to hurt them long term. From the very start of the novel, it's clear that he's already resigned to the fact that he's going to die.

This man's life is so tragic. He deserved the happy ending the novel gave him.

[collapse]

This is an entertainment business novel. So, read with the expectation that there will be a lot of netizen/ weibo interludes- which I personally enjoyed reading. Almost all of the instances which feature them are used to push the story forward.

Spoiler

My own personal interpretation:

Excuse me for purple prosing, but I totally believe that the movie the MC acted in Crazy Musician was a foreshadowing for the third act's villain. The pe*verted artist that hid in the shadows, gaining inspiration from the macabre.

Tao Yang was definitely not a character I expected to find in an entertainment type novel. His level of antagonism is more of what you would typically see in a mystery novel. Had he been a serial killer instead of a pe*verted artist, he could have made a very terrifying character. The levels he went to hide his every action just to see the five seconds of despair on the ML's face is beyond unnerving.

And, if I'm correct, and the movie was a foreshadowing of events, then it's only natural to assume that the true mu*derer all along was the System.

Something I liked about the explanation of the system's origins is that it's not clear whether the MC was transmigrated into an actual novel or into an alternate world, and the novel was simply a fabricated prophetic reading sent as the world's collective consciousness's last sort of salvation. Here take this, obstruct the system. Keep my world from becoming an apocalyptical one like yours.

Truly great!

MC and ML are both strong characters, without a doubt. I especially love how MC was straightforward and was not afraid to show his feelings for the ML. It's really not a typical characteristics you find in a BL story. He wasn't hesitant when accepting his feelings for ML. His actions spoke for itself.

Yes! This is EXACTLY what a reverse villain transmigration story should be. The main character doesn't just directly replace the protagonist, instead, he highlights all the flaws of the original protagonist's golden finger and easy success. He doesn't try to capture a bunch of love targets, or use people for his own good. Everyone he befriends are just friends; if they help him, it's the kind of help a friend might extend. If they give him excessive help, it's because of their own self interest, not some inexplicable burning love... more>> for him.

I like the slow love that develops between the main character and the former villain. They don't magically fall in love with each other, but instead tentatively circle each other, live with each other, come to notice and like each other, and realize that they want more. Their relationship isn't smooth, and just like a relationship in real life, it requires work from them both. The villain learns to express his love openly, and the main character learns that he doesn't have to rely on just himself. They continue to have lives and talents independent of each other. They never become that boring couple that make each other the center of their lives. Rather, they both live in harmony, doing their own thing, creating their own career, but still finding ways to support each other when needed. I love the perfect balance of independence and dependence this couple manages to maintain throughout this book.

The other thing I love about this book is how suspicious it is of something that's too good to be true. It doesn't take the system at face value, apparent friends at their word, or even the transmigration as mere magic. I love how tidily the author ties together the supernatural parts of the story.

Spoiler

The apocalypse world that the main character came from is actually a world that has already been destroyed by an energy-gathering system like the love value system. These systems help people aquire love while they're alive, so they can gather the maximum grief energy when they die. These systems were sent out from a world that s**ked up all the energy of its inhabitants in order to survive. Finally, a rogue system infected with another world's consciousness tries to fight back by finding people with abilities to send into worlds infected by the system. By having these people capture and infect the system with their abilities before the system returns to the main world, they are helping to poison the main system, and will hopefully eventually end the energy harvesting.

[collapse]

Of course, I don't think this book is perfect. There is an evil genius villain who I think is not very realistic. He's too much a stereotype of the crazy, genius artist.

The portrayal of survival as a matter of will and medicine was also a bit overly optimistic in my opinion. I think it is very reasonable for a person with terminal cancer, cong**ital problems, and heart disease to not seek aggressive treatment. The book portrays the villain as a bit of a coward for this decision, but he has a terminal illness, with very low chances of surviving even with treatment. Aggressive treatments will typically make the patient feel horrible. He's giving up a ~1% chance of recovery with treatment in order to use his remaining time to prepare his family for success. Without the main character's ability, undergoing treatments would most likely mean the villain wouldn't be able to work and live normally even for the short remaining time he has. In a book, the main character refusing to plan for the worst and constantly urging the villain to reluctantly undergo treatment is fine. In the real world, this would be considered manipulative and foolhardy. Thank goodness this is a book.

Overall, I loved this story. It's heartwarming and shows characters that grow and find a sweet love against all odds. It teaches us that nothing comes for free, and if you want a happy ending, you should put in the effort. <<less

Amazing. I read it all in one go. The love is so sweet and enduring, it came slowly and grew with time, understanding and a lot of work from both parties. There is so much respect between the MC and the ML.

And really it is comedy gold. Their bickering is short, funny, and sweet. The tsundere of the ML is the real kind 🤣 not abusive, but shy and awkward; the type to reply “Lawless” to shows of affection. It’s adorable.

It should have felt like a long read but once... more>> it ended, it didn’t feel long at all. I wish I could’ve read 100 more chapters. The translation quality is as expected from Rainbow Turtle: excellent. <<less

One if the best transmigration stories have ever read!

The plot at first seem like average transmigration story, with the villian having system but when read it further you realize the actual impact of the system even on the villian and its also quite pitiful for the villian. The protagonist is smart and bit OP but never in extreme way. The ML gives the MC space and lets the MC figure out this his own problem. The villains are amazing, they actually gave a hard for MC to even find them... more>> and figure them out. It been a really long time seen such a good villain. The book has consistent pace and you can see the character development in every character including the villains! Truly I will never stop praising how good the villian are, there are truly interesting. Even after they lost everything, they still gave a really hard for protagonist to find them. The MC is cold hearted but he knows when and to who to show compassion. The ML is tsudere even in end of book he still remains as tsundere but you feel his love and passion for the MC. The MC in similar form, you feel the love and passive for ML and how much they love each. Truly honey stacking sweet in the end. The cannon folder also quite contribute quite a bit in the development of plot and progress, all the cannon folder are clue to finding the villian but it's never 100% correct which makes the plot very interesting and makes want to read the next character.

My final thoughts in this book would be that it quite the interesting book, from the protagonist to villains to cannon folders. I would highly recommend reading it. <<less

One thing I find it interesting in this novel is the undeniable fact that "information is everything".

This novel, both the MC and the original Female Lead of this novel, both of them have golden finger, an ability.

The female lead has the ability to make other people be brainwashed by her and obedient towards her.

... more>> While the MC (Xie Yang) has the ability to nullify the female lead's ability.

The female lead's ability was actually omnipotent, as long as she has someone who love/like her (as example like fans, or those who has good impression towards her when looking at her good deeds), then she could increase her ability and exchange of those goodwill points into many other things, even changing her face and voice and many other thing.

While the MC is actually in disadvantage. The MC's ability is an ability that need upgrading slowly, and could not get instant power. More importantly MC's ability is only nullifying the female lead's brainwashing ability and could not be exchanged into anything.

However, in the war between those two people with otherworldly abilities, the MC won in the end.

Looking at it in a simple way, the reason why the MC won was of course because he is the MC, the protagonist of this novel, how could he be defeated?

However, when reading this novel, there is this interesting details, of the reason why did the MC won. It's because between those two rivals, only the MC knew that the female lead has the ability, while the female lead knows nothing about the MC's ability.

Information, confidential information, is indeed something that could make even an impossible war to end in different side.

If only the female lead knows the MC has the ability to nullify her power and give vaccine to people so that they could not be brainwashed by the female lead again, I think the female lead would most likely win. Because in the term of "resource", the female lead has more advantages because she could exchange anything using her goodwill.

The female lead is actually a smart and cunning person, a hardworking one who knows who to choose to brainwash to make her life better.

This is really the irrefutable fact.

Information is really a scary thing. Confidential information is more so.

No wonder in the cold war one country fight so hard to obtain many "informations" about the other countries, because it is really precious and could be used to win the war between parties.

Talking about the plot of the novel,

The premise of this novel is not new, or perhaps it is just me who read this novel later than the other novel with similar premise with this one. Eitherway, the plot definitely not something unique.

Despite the mainstream premise, the plot is quite engaging. There is this danger when writing about entertainment novel, "over-exaggerating". The author of entertainment novel often exaggerate the plot about the case of shooting one movie into 30 chapters, or often exaggerate the "popularity" or "the talents" of the MC in the entertainment circle.

This novel surprisingly could give me a decent amount of entertainment plots, rival plots, scheming plots, business plots, family plots, and lover plots, in a balance manner.

The way the plot was divided decently and appropiately without giving it a sense of "too much" really earned my good will towards this novel.

The last thing, the ML IS SUPER CUTE!

HE'S THE EPITOME OF TSUNDERE!

His mouth really betrayed his heart and his action. It is the first time I actually encounter a very shy and conservative seme/gong/top!

His shyness really is amazing! To the point he said, "let's not have s*x until we hold our wedding."

Ahhhh, where!!!????

Where can I found a seme like this nowadays?

If I'm not mistaken, all the seme will definitely pounced on the uke the moment they have a chance, right? Hahha!

He's really cute! <<less

With the oversaturation of similar novels and tropes used, the main characters here shine with their mini moments of interaction. Apart from that, the main lead remains too OP that there does not seem to be any tension needed to be concerned of his fate.

With the vissicitudes of work, life and more, I found myself getting more bored the more I read it. This is a good novel to pass time when you need it but I would not say its a captivating read. So 3/5.

Slow-burn. Arranged marriage. Business Partners-to-Friends-to-Lovers. Intrigue. Family Drama. Fluff. Supernatural abilities.

The development of the relationship between the MC and ML is solid and steady. Both men act intelligently but are occassionally emotional and make human mistakes, which deepens their characters in a good way. The side-characters are not dropped, and their relationship with the main characters develop too. The MC's (secret) powers and background are insanely useful for his specific situation but aren't an insta-fix (as compared to the FL/Villainess), so he works hard for what he wants to accomplish.... more>> In fact, everyone works hard--even the bad guys--which makes the story more believable.

I like the Entertainment world setting with the barest hint of supernatural/system background to keep things interesting and provide a bit of mystery. I don't follow celebrities in IRL and I don't think (even in China) that anyone can control the flow of fans so well, but the comments of the Netizens act as another kind of character, which also grows and develops with the story and also gives the readers a way to see themselves inside the story.

Glad I chose to read it and looking forward to reading the rest as it is translated. <<less

Immersive, captivating and expressive detailed story telling. The kind of novel I have been on the look out for in shoujos and jouseis but couldn't/hardly find.

I can't praise if enough for it's perspective rich narrations, not completely erasing original MC nor the MC before transmigration. Both have their own individualities and you also get a glimpse of MC's lifestyle and situation before transmigration.

Yes, he's OP but I don't think it's written in a way that's too cringy, instead it highlights him quite well with his c*cky personality.

Idk what the low... more>> raters are ranting about because tags says it all. Modern time showbiz is heavily social media reliant and the author paints the scenes well, even to the performances. You can tell author knows enough to make the story realistic. (If you want to say it's too overly dramatic, so are irl conflicts between celebrities.

Also some negative reviews claim the MC doesn't care about public opinion, which is BS. There's literally one scene where he gets mad at the comments, but he has the level of self control and not let the flow of social media get to him. He knows how to prioritize and he needs to know public opinion since it sways easily and it's necessary as a CEO and idol.)

It's not an heavy handed win win win situation, the side characters show their own wits or lack of, whether being on MC's team or on the opposition. Their own thinking, character and actions don't follow an obnoxious cannon fodder way that you often would see in shoujos and jouseis for example. The hostility would be subtle and a lot of mind games are played. It's not only has entertaining schemes and exchange of wits but also interesting supernatural bits.

As for the ML, because of the slow romance (which is also in the tags) the interactions with MC is sparse. But time to time it will show different sides of him, creating a gap moe of iceberg-CEO with some fragility and harmonious fun bickering with MC.

But overall, it does fall flat on romance since everything is left in a fade out situation when things get even slightly heated, even kisses are quite blandly described (but for that, their sweet acts for each other stand out more). What I want to say is, their synergy has been the same ever since the ML got to know MC, from a caring elder role to a more clingy tsundere lover. <<less

I cried. I really envy the love between the two. Overall rating: 4.5.

The setting of the story is modern day and the general theme revolves around face-slapping in the entertainment and business industry, family drama, and romance between the overbearing rich president and a person originally from the apocalypse period that transmigrated into the body of a novel's cannon fodder. The general plot is not unique - I've seen a lot of stories that follow a similar plotline of from the bottom of the ladder to the top, etc.

But the... more>> story and their feelings were beautifully written. And I was moved. And also jealous. And also very thankful. Thank you for letting me read such a heartfelt story.

Some other thoughts:

Spoiler
    • This story further cemented the idea that in novels, an entertainment company's PR department is either the company's most ens*aved or richest department, or even both. In just a few days, they need to make topics a hot search, recruit water armies, stand vigil for competitors' public statements, collect both gossip and "substantial" evidences for their statements, buy marketing accounts and "tips" to prevent news leakage, make comeback declarations, and control public opinion. This is done for every artist of the company who needs public relations. You can clearly picture how their demanding daily lives are revolve around phone calls, social media, computers, and meetings, Even more, their paycheck probably depends whether their company has sufficient funds or not. In any case, if there is even a chance that I become a character in a novel (hahaha keep dreaming), I don't want to be involve in the PR department. I would rather read a story centered around it and know their pains and gains than be a company s*ave.
    • You can see the gradual change in the MC's mindset as the story progresses. At the start, his personal goal is to live well (not surprising since he came from the age of apocalypse where death is everywhere) and use any means he can get to achieve this - even making a deal with a near-death person. But then he fell in love, which brought him tons of problems. And he change his goal of living well to living well with him. He changed his partner's mindset and the mindset of those around them with his actions. If you tell me that his actions are still due to his original goal, I won't buy it. I will consider the reason that him not leaving and solving all the worries is essential for the plot so he can't leave, but if we leave out this detail and consider only from the characters' perspective, clearly, before the onset of the climax of the story, he has enough capital to escape and leave his partner alone to deal with all troubles - he has the system, helpful "friends" in the industry, his continuously upgrading ability core, his company that he can liquidate anytime, and his talent in music, while his partner has a terminal sickness, a company with lots of in-fighting, a pe*verted stalker-artist junior, an amateurish nephew, and lots of hyena competitors who wanted a piece of his legacy once he dies. Sure, the benefits MC can get after ML dies are a lot but considering how much he has to do to get them and his competency, my guess is that he can build an equivalent business empire like Rongding in just a couple of years. MC can clearly leave all behind and live well abroad to start again, both at the present time and in the possible future, and considering his cautious mindset and his partner's all-is-well-if-you-are-happy attitude towards him, this move has a high chance of succeeding if he choose to do it. But he didn't leave. He fought with him until the end. He changed from a character who only cares about himself to a character who cares about another more than himself. And that's one of the reasons why I was moved.
    • ML also went into a gradual change in the story. From a tsun tsun overbearing president to a timid husband-s*ave, all of his actions and reactions put a smile on my face. If there is one thing that I have to note, it's how he change his mindset of waiting to die to fighting to live, and his response to this. Perhaps I am just not content, having read a distant relative's diaries of when he suffered from cancer a long time ago. I won't go into the details of his journals since it's too personal but comparing the emotions - despair, unwillingness, contentment, acceptance, determination - in that with the ones in the novel, it is somewhat lacking. I know it's not really necessary for the story to imply these so deeply so I won't subtract these points in my rating.
    • It is surprising to know who the true villain of the novel is. Considering his introduction and build-up of the story, I have an inkling that he will play a decisive role before the start of the climax. It's just that I did not deduce his role and reason completely, but if you ponder how meticulous MC is when dealing with him, it's actually not that hard to guess that he really is the ultimate villain in the author's manuscript. A twisted villain who hides in the dark is really the most difficult of them all.
