Kim Dokja does not consider himself the protagonist of his own life. Befitting the name his parents gave him, he is a solitary person whose sole hobby is reading web novels. For over a decade, he has lived vicariously through Yu Junghyeok, the main character of the web novel Three Ways to Survive the Apocalypse (TWSA).

Through Junghyeok, Dokja has experienced secondhand the trials of repeatedly regressing in time, in search of an end to life-threatening “scenarios” that force people to act out narratives for the amusement of god-like “Constellations.”

After reading 3,149 chapters—long after all other readers lost interest—Dokja finally resigns himself to the story ending. However, he receives an enigmatic message from the author, stating that the story will soon be monetized, before his surroundings suddenly go dark.

He swiftly realizes that fiction has become reality and he is now living through TWSA. Although he is the singular omniscient reader of the events yet to come, his success in the scenarios is not guaranteed—but perhaps his advantage will empower him to step into the protagonist role that never suited him before.

Read to the 174 ch. I really don't like it, author is just making even simplest things difficult, truthfully if there wasn't his mother in the mix maybe... but f*ck, just everything around the MC should be f*cked up so that author was satisfied... yeah.. why not, when whole world is going down why we don't do some f*cking family drama with MC's life on the line...... it all just so stretched and tiring, really.

Spoiler

by the way, he died one because someone tried to protect his lower part in the middle of the sh*t live indangering drama with family, wow, the best timing to do it, really

[collapse]

Let me be straight, it just complicated that's all, it's not any great read or anything, playing with others emotions is a sure way to succeed and that exactly what author doing, not worth my time <<less

Started a few days ago and finished it in 3 days, I just couldn't put it down after starting it.

The MC is clever, but not in an OP way, the novel really captures how he and his group struggles throughout the scenarios as well. His inner monologue and thoughts are interesting as well, sometimes it not what you might expect.

I would say that things get really interesting after chapter 200, but everything before that is still essential to the story. Up to now, the manhwa adaptation is around chapter 90, so I'm looking forward to see how the rest of the arc will be drawn.

The character development in this novel is really great as well. Not just the MC, the side characters and even the constellations get their own development. I enjoy how Kim Dokja's original team grows with him and the relationship they have. If you like the found family troupe, then you'll like this. I also really like how the dynamic between Kim Dokja and Yoo Jonghyuk changes throughout the story, I think that it's written very well. The importance of Han Yoosung also progresses from the start of the story to the end, you can really see how she shines nearer to the end.

Things do get confusing closer to chapter 500, and it turns out to be an open ending as well. Lots of angst and feelings towards the last 100 chapters.

10/10, would reread it over and over again <<less

Okay, I finished this novel a while ago but only reviewing now. In my opinion, this is one of the best novel I've read. Even though the ending is an 'open ending', I really really enjoyed the entire novel.

First of all, the MC has a unique personality, he doesn't vault himself all that much. But cares deeply for his friends and companion, he has a clear goal and determination to archieve it. Even though sometimes even us readers can't predict his plans, he always surpises us with everything he got.

He... more>> is not overpowered, he has many limits, thus resulting in his.... (Spoiler) many deaths. But he always plan for it, and even in situations where he didn't, he would still try his best to protect his group. It's super funny to see his teammates get mad at him everytime he does something reckless haha. He's smart and charming in his own way that make me wanna both give him a hug and punch him (lol) He's a lovable idiot, he always tries to shoulder the hard stuffs. Sometimes he wouldn't even consider himself part of the group, and that's why his teammates always get irritated with him. But they all love him deeply in their own way. This is the type of novel where MC found his family and they stick with him till the end. If they are the sword, the shield, the brain,... then MC is the heart. The entire group wouldn't be together without him, and that is proven many times in the novel.

The whole world this story is set in gets more and more complicated as the story goes. It envolves many things like worldlines, gods, myths, fables, channels, time travel, world crossing, recainations,... To be honest, near the end of it all I couldn't be sure if I understand everything. But the reason I said this OE didn't bother me is because this story isn't about the ending, but the entire process you read. Each senario gives the reader a new excitement and curiousity, sometimes even sorrow or hatred. It's such a detailed plot and amazing story that leave me drigging up a bunch of websites, looking to see if there are any side chapters. Haha sadly there aren't, but I'm still more than satisfied with all this. An advice, you shouldn't try to understand the timelines and worldlines completely, it's quite hard. Instead you should focus on the next best thing...

The characters development, especially for the 2th main of the story, Yoo Junghuyk. He went through so so many changes and turns, by the end of it you could see clearly how much he have matured. And it's 'matured', he didn't change completely or gets corrupted, no, he matured in a way that make readers like me proud. The author put so much thought into his development in every single details. And hands down, I really thought he would get swallowed up by all the crazy stuffs that happen throughout the story. But no, he was still himself in the end of it all.

There are loses and there are merits in this story. There are some small parts that talk about romance but it's not really anything. MC doesn't have a love interest (damn guy doesn't even vault himself haiz...) and the leads are a trio: Kim Dokja, Yoo Junghuyk, Han Sooyoung. Each person has their own development throughout the story.

[Spoiler!] hsy used to be an enemie but then side with MC while yhj used to never see MC as his companion, but in the end risks his life to save him. And MC, well, I can't really name it, but he definitely went through a lot. His family was the one that changes him the most is all I can say.

-----------

Okay by this point I'm showing my fan side too much. But everything I said is true, and I fell in love with these characters. This has got to be the novel that keeps me on my toes almost every chapters. 5 out of 5, you should definitely give this a go. Don't read too fast, just enjoy the process, I was even a little sad when I almost finished it.

(Please ignore any typos haha, English isn't my mother tongue) <<less

I really loved this novel a lot more than I was expecting. I’m pretty picky and even though there are some faults in the story and translation I still loved all 551 chapters. I just finished reading the last chapter and I have to say that this novel made me go through so many ups and downs that I feel as though I understood Kim Dokja the most during the epilogue.

I just spent the last two and a half hours crying my eyes out reading the epilogue, kudos to the... more>> authors for their hard work. They really had me so completely absorbed with this story all the way until the very end.

I wish Kim Dokja’s Company a “happy ending.” <<less

Alright, this is my first time writing a review since I'm too shy to do it usually but I think it is time already for me to come out of my shell.

I've finished ORV a year and a half ago, some might not be able to stomach so many chapters and arcs but I personally loved it. It took me around half a year to finish it completely but not because I thought it was boring, I actually enjoyed it too much and felt too much empathy for Kim Dokja... more>> that I had to overcome my fear of finishing it. I was scared of it ending so I delayed it a lot, as expected it bring me to tears many times along the story. It made me feel a lot of emotions in a way many other novels couldn't. I would have keep reading even if there were 10k chapters. That's how much I liked it.

There may be some times where it feels a little bit slow and dense but it was fine after. You just need to have patience and I really suggest to give it a try. All the characters have some deepness and I really enjoyed that, they were not just random words on paper, they were characters for who I would pray every chapter, I would frown at their presence, I would smile when they smile, I would cry when they feel bad.

Before reading ORV I didn't even like these type of novels, but i've learnt to be more tolerant and give chances to novels with many bad reviews that ended up being better than expected.

Kim Dokja touched my heart, as a reader and as a person. <<less

This was an amazing novel to read. I loved all the characters and their journey to the End was fun to watch. The last arc was very suspenseful and I didn't want to read any further dreading reaching the end. But now I'm finished after reading and I cried more than I expected. I recommend this novel to everyone who wants to read a unique story/concept with an amazing world building and characters.

I stumbled upon the webtoon version of this novel and decided to read it. At first, I thought it was generic. The MC at the start seemed like the typical OP lone wolf protagonist to me so I decides to stopped reading. For some reason I picked it back up and started reading again. I caught up on the chapters and went to read the novel. It was f*cking beautiful. I almost cried at how well written this novel is. The novel was thought out pretty well. Everything connects. Things... more>> make sense the more you read. The characters are fleshed out and given character developments. I really liked this novel. I might reread it once I forget enough of the plot.

I dont have much time and this is my first time making a review so I dont know if I conveyed what I think about this novel well. <<less

This novel is really great, and I really reccomend everyone to read it. Although at the first few chapters it might seem like a typical story where the MC gets crazy strong and beats the whole thing, well technically it is but it's not. The truth of the story blew my mind. You won't know the truth to this story unless you read till the end.

Kim Dokja often sacrifices himself to save his comrades, but he manages to still live with much struggle, but the ending is still pretty ambiguous, but people believe he is still alive. There is a reason he has this massive plot armors, and the reason is pretty sad and such a genius move from the author but not breaking the logic of the story already.

[collapse]

If you read till the end and was observant trough the story, you'll definitely realize the truth. Or maybe you can check out some theories hahahaha, well that'd ruin the fun.

Either way this was such a great read, don't let any bad review keep you from reading it. You're better off try reading it yourself. <<less

okey so this is my first review and english is not my second language so there might be mistake.

Firstly this novel is AMAZING and soooo BEAUTIFUL, this is absolutely incredible. I accidently found this and read but that was most lucky accident. ORV will be always BEST for me. I am simply obsessed with this novel. Some people might not like this, they have their own preference. For me I really love this. Thank you so much author Sing-Shong and translation teams. And I must say if you are not... more>> a patient reader and don't like plot twist and complicated things then you might not like this.

It started like common KR novel. Regression, Time travel, All-knowing protagonist and MC became strong, gain comrades in arm. But started from 73rd demon world arc complicated things will begin. I like how author describe Kim dokja as a reader until the end and how they chose themselves over world. And like how this novel ended. Ending was most fitting end for ORV. Like ''I will leave 'end' to your imagination'' thing.

Kim dokja self sacrificial bastard keep dying to finish damn scenerio not thinking his comrades feeling ugghhh, BUT at the same time I think his decision is correct. While I was reading I feel so much emotion that I can't explain in word well, the plot is so beautiful that I cried. After finished reading I was like ''Whaaat so it all connected with each other??? This is huge f*cking 'CIRCLE' that don't have beginning or ending''. I feel so depressed after finished it, the most FUNNY thing is that I keep thought 'What IF this is really happening somewhere in the universe'.
Spoiler

I really love entirety of this novel. Such as how Han sooyong chose to write ''Three ways to survive in the ruined world'' and become tls123 and how Yoo jonghyuk traveled to space and time to find or save Kim dokja when there is nearly no hope. And how Kim dokja stayed in that eternity train and became the watcher of worlds so universe will be exist. How secretive plotter aka 1863th Yoo jonghyuk meets most ancient dream and liberated from this huge shit. How Kim dokja became Yoo jonghyuk's constellation sponsor and helped 0th YJK in the ''World of zero'' arc..... this is my own opinion but I like how author creates a bromance moment between YJK and KDJ

[collapse]

Okey so lastly this is MUST-READ novel and you won't regret it. ORV really deserved all this high rating. Before I realized I was hooked by this. You might confuse because of all timeline, makes-no-sense plot, mystery things but stay PATIENT and read eventually all things will be solved in the end. <<less

Its been a year since I last saw this ahh, I remember the time while reading that I spend a couple of nightless just to finish this. Uck I freaking cried a lot of time while reading this especially to the epilogue like whuuut?! Every scene, arc here is absolutely top notch, the characters are well developed and you will definitely be shocked in those plot twists, its also had those funny scenes haha I suddenly remember when his word was filtered and he turn into a squid lololol. MC... more>> is a scammer xD he literally always sacrifice himself, and there is the "real protagonist" hoho, actually this is kinda similar to one korean novel/manhua called "sss-class suicidal hunter" the MC also can regress and have this suicidal habit like KDJ here, what's more they had similar name lmao just a little difference. So yeah, this will make your mind blow and you will felt roller coaster here for your emotions so be ready <<less

I love and hate this book. The beginning of the book is very interesting just getting a feel for who Kim Dokja is. I normally hate first person narrative but this book has complete mastery over it.

I definitely recommend reading this book.

Though, I hate the epilogue of this book. It left me feeling so sad and empty. I'm not sure how other people are okay with this ending because I most certainly am not OKAY with this ending.

Spoiler

Kim Dokja being the Most Ancient Dream was surprising and saddening. The fact that everything was his imagination coming to life was just... depressing. It made everything they went through feel pointless because it was just a dream. To me, it made everything seem fake. And even though Kim Dokja may have made some character development ultimately in the end he still decided to take everything upon himself. He decided to be alone. (I'm crying just thinking about this).

I think Yoo Jonghyuk was the most pitiful character in this book. On top of regressing and seeing his companions die (especially Kim Dokja), his one goal throughout it all had been completed. His role as the protagonist was over and he was clueless as what do now that there were no more scenarios. But despite that, his character is admirable. The sheer mental power he possesses is out of this world. I'm honestly wondering if he is even human. After all, he is the puppet of the Most Ancient Dream (while writing this I finally figured out what that meant, I'm so slow ( ̄ー ̄)) .

The saddest part of this book was when Yoo Jonghyuk was reading to accept his end as the hope for everyone back on Earth. I was on verge of crying. It was a cruel plan for everyone involved in it especially when you take into account all the planning and care that went into it. How happy and hopeful everyone was. Broke my heart. (My heart was physically in pain). You have no idea how relieved I was when that turned out to not be the case. *phew*

I'm not really sure if this book was aiming for anything theme wise (probably just for entertainment) but this was really depressing to read. I had to take breaks in between. 1. Because it was starting to get sad and 2. I didn't want it to end. After reading this book, it honestly made me quite depressed and I still constantly think about the ending. (I may need therapy).

Honestly this review is more of me rambling because I have no one to talk to about it. I just wanted people to know how much I hate the ending. I wish someone would make an alternate ending where Kim Dokja actually stepped off the subway and not just his avatar with 94% of his memories. Why couldn't he also get a happy ending?

I mean I know he comes back in the end but it just doesn't sit right with me. And it never told us that he came back, it mainly implied by Han Sooyoungs reaction and by the phrase 'This story is for just that one reader.' I want more than that.

[collapse]

I listened to War of Hearts by Ruelle while reading this book especially towards the end. It kind of fit depending on how you think about it. Just a suggestion. I don't really expect anyone to read this review, but if someone does then thank you for taking your time to read this. <<less

I dislike novel that went with time loop as a means to end things. It's a clusterf*ck with no clear end and beginning. I just read the last 100 chapters or so just to end the series, since I do like the other arc.

[collapse]

Overall it's a great story. It's not the deepest or profound, but it does have the right dose of action/adventure/friendship mix. I like how it incorporated various deities and legends. While reading, it feels like some deity/figure are stronger than they should be. I am not the type that fuss about power level too much, but I do wish there's more explanation why it feels like most deities power level feel stagnant before the MC start his adventure.

Like other Korean novel, there's no shortage of sasuga MC-sama moment. Thankfully the rest of the crew have their own mini arc and could contribute to the story.

I'm not exactly saying its bad. But it doesn't mean its good either. If there's one thing that bugs me while reading the whole novel (and I've read everything), it's the fact that you're forced to accept whatever is written in the novel. "It's already there, so deal with it" was the feeling I got for the most part. It was infuriating on my end because I tend to obsess on the smallest of details and everything just happened without precedence. I'm sure you'll spot quite a few of 'em... more>> once you read it yourself. Although it was explained, the timing was off, I guess. It was an okay read, nevertheless. <<less

I felt complicated. The me who understood some parts like the story and at the same time hate it. The me who didn’t understand some parts felt like I’m an idiot for not understanding and at the same time made me question if it is worth spending so much energy to even try to fathom what it’s about. Sometimes it felt like disrespecting a history but yet it felt like remembering the forgotten ones. I surely do not want to read this story again as every read may give a... more>> different answer to my question but... maybe... just maybe you would want to completely read this hopeful yet hopeless story that end with an answer I want to find out yet at the same time respect the choice of the author to leave it to my imagination.

I feel like a lot of these people leaving bad reviews hasn’t completed the novel or have some personal hang ups which I’d rather not know. It’s quite a compelling read that deserves its popularity.

I acknowledge that there might be some minor plot holes here and there (I can’t help but notice it). Also the Translators switch which might be annoying to some as the form changes. Overall, the novel binds itself in an eloquent manner that is compelling and reflective.

The authors have done a good job in making this... more>> novel gripping and I want to remove the switch of Translators as it’s not the fault of the novel. Hence, 5 stars or more accurately 4.5. I would have liked to see more at the end and the possibilities that could have been. But then again, in my opinion it would have defeated the intentions of the storytelling as a whole. It’s a good read worth your time and I do recommend it. <<less

Honestly I really like novels like this, but of course I'll give a review after I read this book last night.

-Overall it's good

-The armor plot is used here, so our MC is very lucky

This has an open ending, you are free to think about the ending. Although I'm still very curious to be honest, the final chapters of their adventure are truly moving! I'm crying to be honest, they are all wholeheartedly trying to bring back the KDJ extension

-It's like the concept of time, uh I don't know what it's called.

Our MC turns out to be the 'most ancient dream', perhaps an extension that is similar to the 'God' of that world. As someone who just finished all the chapters I had to left a review on this novel

story:

I got to know this novel through webtoon and was interested in development of the story as the beginning was pretty interesting but didnt expect much just a curiosity, after like 50-60 chapters in the concept of story was similar to other one stories about survival and there was little to say still I enjoyed the setting but didnt expect what was about to come, the story then expanded and started to get out... more>> of hand in a good way, I was kinda expecting wuxia setting and powercreep but it didnt felt that way, the story felt good and all pieces were fitting well as the story progressed and till the end of the novel I could say it was an epic adventure with great ending

character

MC was believable and a human, he never felt like overpowered character that ab*sed his power and was struggling till the end he truly didnt have MC plot armor

While other characters were developing as the story progressed and relationships were changing some u fall to love some u hated and some u could undertood, at the end u felt that all of them even villain and extras were important and had part in whole story

The story as whole is inyeresting till the end and felt complete, I would recommend this to anyone who likes adventure fantasy and many twists <<less

I have a million to say about this, and I even made an account on this website to comment. However, I won't say a million things since long reviews can be tedious and I want to make my point.

This story is not one you would understand if you only read 100 chapters. You may assume there's a lot of plot armor, or things thrown in without explanation. Trust me, a lot of things are explained as you go through the story.

This is also a journey. The experience and growth of... more>> a group of people during an apocalyptic type of world. There is action, plenty of it, but there's also a lot of emotion. The relationship between members in the party is not superficial — it's real. It exists. You can see it, and you can feel it. They went from a group of strangers who had messy relationships, hanging on a fine line as they trusted each other for survival but still suspected the others, to life and death companions who would see the end to this collapsing world. Kim Dokja is a reader. His point of view isn't always reliable, and while he may seem to know everything, he doesn't.

It's a truly beautiful story, and I loved every single moment. I'll admit that it has it's flaws as all others do, but I enjoyed even that. There are some moments one might look at as ridiculous or bland, but I think it's true and real.

Am I looking through rainbow-coloured glasses? No.

It's all about what you take out from reading this. Nevertheless, don't be put off by negative reviews and form your own opinion. If you ask me if I liked this novel or not, I'd say I loved it. More than anything.

But you have to find your own answer to that. <<less

One of my favorite knovels! I originally thought it'd be the millionth iteration of a reader transmigrating into a book and becoming an overpowered hero, but this novel broke my expectations in the best way. The world-building is really creative, and I love how it incorporates the concept of the story with historical figures and mythological figures. And the intensity of the relationship between Kim Dokja and Yoo Jonghyuk is just amazing! I loved the progression of the two of them going from mutual distrust, only using each other for... more>> practical purposes, until they were literally life and death companions. (I'm pretty sure I've read BL novels that were less shippy than this!) There's a lot of great side characters too. I really recommend this for people who enjoy the transmigration genre. It's a very fun and original take on it. <<less
