Description

In his previous life Bai Lang was a small star. He rejected his boss and foolishly engaged in a relationship which he thought was true love.

He didn’t expect that he would get betrayed, die of a heart attack and trouble his boss to accompany him on his last journey.

After his rebirth, he decided to give up on true love. As for his boss… since he wants something then just let him have it.

So this little star after his rebirth collected his boss, and then it became a true love story with his boss.

In between there are good friends/love rivals/s*um men in the mix. A sweet story with a happy ending.

3.5, easy read, not overly dramatic, and likable enough characters. The story is just a little flat.

Just when the story starts ramping up for some MC wish fulfilling and face slapping, it enters the climax. I love shorter stories, as I usually get bored easily, but this story felt like it was missing a chunk out of the middle.

The MC is good, but not too much to him. ML is okay, but not sure why he fell so deeply for MC in this life. Last life I can get the... more>> thrill of the chase lead to love.

Side characters and villians were meh. The 2 kids were cute. Their extra was cute. Was hoping for an extra of insight into the previous life for the ML and the villian.

All in all, this felt like a meandering outline, instead of fleshed out novel.

Not mad I read it but won't read it for a third time (2nd time reading, forgot to leave a review the first time so read again to refresh my memory)

The translation was great. I loved the explanations, thank you translator! <<less

Oof, it's been months since I read this so I only remember the bad points. Which really is just one ilogical thing that doesn't ruins the story, but it did stand out to me after finishing it. Idk why the author decided that 🤔

The novel was probably mostly good enough (not THAT good since I didn't come here to review as soon as I finished it nor do I remember much at all about it, which signals it wss pretty flat/cliché/normal). Read it at one go.

The thing that doesn't make... more>> sense to me-->
Spoiler

My problem is how the bigger villain (the present one) lives better than the lesser villain (past one; the ex boyfriend). The revenge was more calculated and filled with more hatred towards the ex boyfriend, which doesn't make sense to me since he accidentaly caused MC death - meanwhile the present dude actively tried to kill him. Both characters are awful, but one's crimes are worse so why is he better off at the end?

Started off strong then crashed into face-slapping exposition hell. ML's character design was interesting, but was ultimately flat. MC was well-rounded at first, but his actions were dictated by stereotypes of a typical mother by midway.

Stakes felt pretty low too. When things actually became critical, the resolution quickly summarized over to comfort the reader and in effect, eliminated any feeling of suspense.

All things considered, it's a quick and fun read, but nothing special imo.

This is a story with an awesome couple! The MC Bai Lang is a warm-hearted and level-headed actor and the ML Qiu Qian is a shrewd and ruthless business mogul. Although their relationship starts as a contract and the ML starts out not so great (kind of creepy and is a negligent father), the ML improves and treats the MC well.

Premise of the story - Bai Lang has a tragic death and is transported back ten years to his past. Armed with his past experiences and knowledge, he re-lives his... more>> life to change his fate. Along the way, he improves his situation, finds a true family (there is a cute kid!), and ultimately avenges his past self.

I love how the couple ends up so in-sync with each other and have no ridiculous misunderstandings or miscommunications! This is a story that will leave you with a very satisfied feeling. <<less

This is a really good novel just that the MC is a little bland. He just doesn't have a eye catching aura. IDK but over all the story was really good. Plus one point for the little bun and his side story. The MC doesn't go out of his way for revenge either and is quite mature and that's another plus. The most impressive fact however is the ML, he is not the elegant mysterious type but a rowdy type, so I thought it may have a lot of non... more>> con or dub con but no this guy is simply amazing he never does anything that the MC doesn't like and would always make sure that the MC is willing which is a plus point and also he is super understanding,
Spoiler

when the MC had a kiss scene in the movies although he was jealous he didn't make a fuss and was understanding to the fact that the MC is an actor and he needs to do his job, which is in my opinion a very rare thing because most of the ml's aren't this understanding

[collapse]
overall the story is very cute and fun to read just some occasional brainlessness and a slightly bland MC. <<less

Hmm... this one gives me mixed feelings. My original rating is somewhere between 4.25~4.5 depending on which chapter I'm reading.

Firstly, the translation quality was very good compared to many other novels on this site. So kudos to the translation team! ?

Secondly, let's talk about the plot - there is a plot - basically a mixture of face-slapping, revenge and diabetes- inducing fluff. There are plenty of loopholes and flaws if you think rationally, but the overall feeling is good. It doesn't excell in any specific aspect but... more>> it was pleasent to read. I felt there was adequate drama and world building.

Thirdly, ROMANCE: the romance is good. It's sugary and fluffy at times, angsty at other times and despite the melodramatic exaggerations, it felt real. Some of the issues portrayed like the insecurities and problems about trust and flexibility in relationship seemed realistic. One thing that sort of disappointed me was the fact that the tension created between the two main antagonists and the main characters was developed well, only to end in a very anticlimactic manner. That makes you feel a bit deflated. And the romance doesn't really face any major issue in the 2nd half which makes it slightly boring for me. Moreover, it's like both the antagonists lose their IQ/character setting by the end
Spoiler

Su Quan is supposed to be cold and calculated but becomes too emotional. And Kang Jian (I think that's his name) who was mentioned as "cautious" in the beginning suddenly becomes impulsive enough to bet all his money (50 million) on one business scheme? That doesn't seem cautious even though he had tested the field previously with smaller amounts.

[collapse]

The little bun is definitely a plus point of the whole novel and once you're hooked onto his reactions, you can't forget it anymore ?

The MC is likeable. He isn't too much of a white lotus or Gary Stu. He is a grey character in this sense. So I like that. As for the ML, he is quite respectful towards most of the MC'S decisions but seems too intrusive at times. (But to each his/her own I guess) I have mixed feelings about some of his actions but he's one of the rare MLs who doesn't get involved in non-con or dub-con despite being the oppressive CEO stereotype. So he gets my support for that.

I got the impression that the author started rushing into everything halfway through the story. This novel could've gotten rid of a lot of it's flaws if it had 20 more chapters in it. However, it was enjoyable and I'll definitely recommend it.

Tl;dr: slightly rushed but fluffy and sweet. RECOMMENDED. <<less

This is a story where everyone gets what they deserve - karmic retribution at its finest. The novel is well-paced and incidents are resolved swiftly enough to not drag on uncomfortably. The best part is that the MC doesn't remain naive and s*upid unlike many other novel protags. Instead, he learns from the misfortunes he encountered in his previous life and strives to live well when he is given a chance to do so. MC also isn't blinded by revenge although he does seek to ensure that past enemies pay... more>> for their actions to some degree. MC inherently does not have a vicious nature but the ML's character nicely supplements this. ML is decisive and merciless when he needs to be.

The tone of the novel isn't all sunshine and smiles but there are touching moments with familial love which mellows out what could otherwise make the plot feel too heavy. Although there are a number of antagonists the author doesn't paint them to be completely 'good' or 'bad' and succintly conveys their character, motives and thoughts. Thanks to that, they don't come off as 1D brainless villains and at least have some substance.

I would have liked for the author to have perhaps written an extra about the ML in the original timeline. It would have been interesting to see his perspective.

All in all, the novel was well written and was of a good length for a short read. I do feel like I need a palate cleanse and will need to read something more lighthearted and fluffy. <<less

I went into this not expecting very much but was pleasantly surprised. It's a very feel-good rebirth story, with a very light sprinkling of angst in the beginning/early middle bits, but mostly a whole lot of fluff.

I wasn't a super huge fan of the male lead at first, since he was one of those overbearing, possessive types, but he ended up growing on me, and their relationship does equalize a lot as time goes on. He's not the best overbearing ML I've ever read, but he's not terrible, at least.

But... more>> I guess I should foreground all of this with: yes, as others have said, he does sexually assault the main character when they first meet. Though he stops once he realizes the MC really isn't willing, this incident is never properly addressed. (Though the ML does do some background finagling for MC's sake, which you learn about only in the rebirth, more on that later.) The ML also ends up essentially sexually harassing MC in the first life with constant "jokes" about being his kept man. This is also never addressed (though doesn't happen in the second life since they get together pretty quickly). And while the ML never actually threatens MC, the MC certainly does feel wary because of their power difference. Worth noting, since it seems a lot of folks drop it at this early point -- which is completely valid!

But you do learn things about the ML in the second life that mitigates a lot of these moments.

Spoiler

ML is actually the one who pulls MC out of the forced prostitution that MC's previous entertainment company tricked him into doing by transferring MC into his own entertainment company. And, he's also the one who switches out MC's assistant for his own personal assistant once he realizes that MC's assistant was selling information to the paparazzi. Overall, while this doesn't entirely absolve ML of his crass s*xual harassment of MC, it does paint him in a nicer light, and makes it easier to like him the second go around.

[collapse]

There's a few other things to watch out for -- MC and ML's relationship does start from money, and ML is written as a bit forceful in their first few encounters. (MC consents, and is the one who seeks ML out in the first place for this deal, but if you're not a fan of early unhealthy relationship dynamics, these first few chapters probably won't look good.) Also...

Spoiler

ML gives MC a watch with a listening device in it, though he also straight-up tells MC about it (and gives MC the option to not wear it, though MC never does, again, with a slight tinge of #powerdynamics issue to it). This watch actually later becomes useful when the MC/ML face-slaps their enemies, but it doesn't quite wash away these early voyeuristic, stalker vibes, though the narrative itself acknowledges it.

[collapse]

Their relationship really takes off, however, when the ML confesses his love to the MC, which happens early enough (chapter 23), but late enough that both of their feelings have organically changed. While MC had already made strides to get on the same footing with ML before this, after this, their relationship definitely equalizes (in particular, financially), and MC ceases to be a kept man.

What I really enjoy about the two main characters' relationship is how well they actually communicate with one another. There's no misunderstandings or ridiculous jealousy-induced drama, and the whole thing actually becomes a pretty healthy relationship. Though the ML is a tad bit more overbearing than I'd like, he always respects the MC's wishes and never oversteps. The two support each other 100% and most of their conflicts from this point on are external rather than internal.

And that's the only other thing that I'm kind of "eh" about with this: the face-slapping can get a bit excessive at the end. It never quite crosses the line for me (and I have a very firm line, believe me), but it does get a bit tiring, especially when I really just wanted to read more fluffy family shenanigans or about how MC is a great actor. A small quibble in the grand scheme of things.

TLDR; Really sweet, fluffy story. Starts off a bit unhealthily in the relationship department but slowly becomes a healthy relationship between two people (and their son!) who all really love each other. Gave me super warm feelings at the end, so definitely worth it. <<less

In the midst of all these glowing reviews, I probably expected too much out of this. What was probably stopping me from enjoying this novel to the fullest is how the MC seems utterly glued to the golden thighs of the ML in almost every waking moment of his reborn life. Half of this issue stems from the ML's typical possessiveness, he embodies almost every cliche you could think of in a danmei ML.

There was absolutely no tension or build up climax throughout the story, because, here, the MC's redeeming... more>> qualities are overshadowed by the novel's insistence to have every stumbling situation dealt with by the ML. The feeling I had the ENTIRE time reading this was more 'Sit back, relax and watch the MC take few steps forward, oh, those enemies? Not to worry, ML's busy face slapping them on and off screen, kthanx. Villains came off flat, and the supposed final boss of the story was unrealistically built up and went out with a whimper. I felt nothing the entire time.

When the story doesn't focus on the ML, however, I could appreciate the journey the MC has paved for himself: a life free of revenge, and the determination to right things in his life. (Well, to be more accurate, he doesn't need to focus on revenge, because... the ML was hell bent on getting it for him anyway.) The novel works best when it's just focused on the MC growing in his path to stardom, the development between him and the father/son relationship that was delightful to read, and the fact that the MC is perfectly capable of delivering justice to himself and the people around him without the ML's assistance. It's too bad the novel doesn't utilize this to its fullest.

Overall, this wasn't a bad read, but lacks that special spark that elevates it above other works in the same genre. Not going to read the extras, because by the time I struggled to the novel end, I realized that it was a chore getting there, so this novel is definitely not for me. <<less

Really good beginning so far. There's just enough dramatic flair that makes the MC, Bai Lang, seem super cool but not an op Mary sue. Something I really love about this story is that Bai Lang's rebirth actually really impacted him. In other rebirth stories the main characters all seem to be just good to great people who were dealt a shitty hand in life. For Bai Lang, yes he was also given a horrible hand, but it was also because of his own character and personality that cause his... more>> life to play out the way it did. Then when he's reborn, he seriously reflects on his past actions. It just feels really real that he had lived ten extra years. <<less

Heart wrenching bits in the front but most of it was pretty fluffy,

I like detailed acting novels (getting into technique, building up the story of the drama/movie) —for this novel, some effort was made but felt more like it was there to progress the plot than usual. Was still decent.

The romance was sweet! Nicely precarious at times, but got fluffy quite quickly. ML’s son was a random add (somehow felt like I wish I was given hint about this) but he was quite cute and added lots of meng... more>> to the story.

The ‘villains’ were quite flat and obvious; they all got their due face slapping but it wasn’t super satisfying or complex. Mildly invested.

The romantic plot was probably the best part, good pacing with a little tension in the beginning and middle, nice implied smut (not explicit, oh well), and trusting fluff & support after. MC was clear headed and very likeable, I could understand his motivations and nothing felt overly forced or out of character.

Generally smooth, short novel that I binged read in a day. Doesn’t go very deep, but enjoyable to read.

Might reread but there are better ones out there to read over this. <<less

I asked myself why the story sounded so familiar as I read only to find out I had read it before 😂😂😂. I still finished rereading it tho because I really liked it. It's a short and quick read. The plot is nice without too much angst but still enough to make the face slapping worth it.

A beautiful novel. The discomfort brought by the initial nearly forced nature of the relationship is very quickly eliminated as the pair's interactions become genuine and caring. The introduction of a child into the relationship is completely natural, without ever becoming annoying. The kid is a soft little bun, bringing about both dramatic moments and comic relief.

The story has a solid plotline and a good pacing, with a healthy mix of drama, revenge and fluff.

Edit: Once the initial excitement has gone down, I realised I'm actually frustrated with the... more>> development of this story. I would have loved to see an alternative ending extra, where at the end if the contract year the MC leaves after confronting the ML, tearing into him with harsh facts. I imagine his monologue:

What love, what deep feelings? We had a s*x contract; I prostituted myself for a year in exchange for 50 millions. The contract has ended, and so we have no further entanglement now. You began this relationship by attempting to r*pe me; then you tried to get me to be your kept man, and when I objected, you obstracted my carreer to pressure me into agreeing. During this year, while claiming to develop feelings for me, you never thought to display basic respect by ending the contract and courting me properly. What gives you the right to force me to stay? Or did you think that your son whom I was unwittingly forced to babysit has managed to melt my frozen heart? It's such a shame readers rarely get to see the s*um gongs being properly chastised and then left hanging with no levers with which to pressure the leaving party. <<less

This story is one of my favorites because of how soothing and warm it is. There's no dragged out melodrama and turmoil. The couple communicates properly and they rarely hide things from each other. They protect each other and their kid is the best part of whole story, he's absolutely hilarious. It's not a very exciting novel given how quickly ML and MC take care of the their problems and don't let them linger, but that's ok. I like to read this novel when I get sick of dramatic ups... more>> and downs and just need something fluffy but not surgery sweet to read. There's enough just a hint of angst that makes this novel just the right amount of sweetness without being overwhelming. And the translator did a fantastic job. They also did well at explaining any unclear or culturally difficult to understand parts of the novel. <<less

I didn't expect that this would be such nice and gripping work. At first, I thought that it would be a silly story with a comedic undertone, but unexpectedly, I found out that the plot is serious and has its own charm. It is a well-written story with a good flow and well-rounded characters.

MC has slightly melancholic vibes. He was abandoned and heartbroken, and even after rebirth, his past life and ungrateful family members put pressure on him. He was reborn, but this didn't bring him joy; he has to... more>> slowly learn to be happy again.

I also loved ML; he is wild, straightforward, and charismatic. I love that he doesn't cling to his image of a big boss; he isn't tsundere and directly says and shows his feelings.

I adore this couple; they truly love each other, and most importantly, their relationship is healthy without drama or misunderstandings.

And there was a child. Such a cute and lovely baby! The author really sold a lot of cuteness. What I liked the most about this character is that he is really childish and acts in accordance with his age. Sometimes in novels, kids are too mature for their age, but here we have a really cute and lively child.

Also, I want to warn readers about one thing. It was mentioned that one particularly scummy character loves to use underhand methods, specifically making people drunk, and then takes advantage of them, which, in my opinion, at least is dub-con. There wasn't any expensive description, but such behaviour makes me extremely angry, so I decided to mention it.

This is one of those kinds of stories that doesn't have a complicated plot. The story itself is simple, but reading it brings a lot of emotions and is really satisfying. Also, the translation is very, very good. I adore when translators leave notes and comments; it makes the reading more joyful. And in this case, the notes were very helpful and cute. I had the feeling that I was sharing my reading experience with a friend. So I would recommend this novel to other readers with a clean conscience. <<less

I have read this novel so many times and believe me it's a very rare occurrence. I don't know where to start or where to end, it's just absolutely beautiful. My favourite one was little bun in the story, he is a national treasure and I especially loved the cute way he was talking.

I think I went wrong not pacing myself with this novel but there never seems to be much going on in each chapter anyway.

We're told everything, even some of the dialogue. The author focuses too hard on explaining and rationalizing unremarkable situations, which keeps the story progression at a perpetual crawl. This feels like a first draft where the author puts all of their notes into the finished work regardless of whether or not it actually enhances the reader's experience.

There's also the constant issue of consent.

Spoiler

Apparently neither of the love interests could "hold back" after getting drunk with MC. The only difference between them at the moment seems to be... money? And I guess the crappy ex also managed to go all the way with the drunk MC but the ML stopped with non-consensual frottage and kissing so that's apparently so much better.

My interest dropped significantly when the author tried to retcon the s*xual coercion/assault between the main pairing. Now, harassment, assault, and coercion are everywhere in danmei but I've read very few that try to retcon what happened after the fact. On the other hand, one could say that the MC answered ML's pointed question of "I never forced you (?) " the way he thought ML needed to hear since, you know, he's completely dependant on ML for shelter, food, transportation, finances, and support in his career-- but, if I'm honest, I don't think the author is skilled enough to explore that complex of a relationship.

Salvaging this story as far as I'm concerned would probably be MC making his money and running far away from both of these s*umbags. As a reader, I don't feel like the possibility of ML having deeper feelings than he's letting on makes up for his behavior.

[collapse]

Anyway, I'll be taking a break from this novel and come back to amend/resubmit this review if I continue it. <<less
