“Then why don’t I marry you!” Yu Dong suddenly proposed.

“You…” Xia Feng thought he had misheard.

“You see, you’re looking for someone to marry to ease your mother’s heart, and I also want to get married. We’re right in front of the doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau, and with all our papers too!” Yu Dong exclaimed while holding up her red household book.

“And the most important thing is that we just broke up with our exes. This is fate, ah!”

Right up until they left the Civil Affairs Bureau again, holding a newly registered red book, Xia Feng remained dazed still wondering, how did he end up getting married?

Did he just pick up a wife at the doors to the Civil Affairs Bureau?

What Xia Feng doesn’t know is that Yu Dong traveled back in time from 10 years in the future.

Now, having a second chance in life and able to secure a good husband, Yu Dong will live her life at full throttle and without regrets.

Help, I'm drowning in all the fluffly. This novel... so damn cute <3

I really liked the way she acted with the ML. At first, she doesn't really care about him, so she is a real rogue, teasing him all the time (like she said "this lady is on a dry for ten years!"). And the way he reacted to her teasing... hilarious! He's too cute. But then he starts to tease her and it's her turn to become a bunny.

On a side note, I loved the way the author made... more>> her act after rebirth. It felt realistic. She doesn't automatically recall every detail of her life from 10 years ago and also doesn't try to act like she's younger than her mental age. She thinks and act like a experienced 30 years old woman, uses everything that she learned in those 10 years to her advantage. The cellphone detail was also nice (at first, she automatically grab her phone to order some food by an app, then laments that phones aren't that modern yet). The fact that she doesn't remember the faces of some people it's also very realistic (hell, I don't remember the faces of people I met last year, imagine ten years ago).

Also, can I just say that the way she acted when she met her ex that dump her was bloody awesome?
Spoiler

She didn't even recognized the bastard at first! And when she did?? Slap the sh*t out of him then makes every woman in the place call him a scum! And lose his job

[collapse]

Those little encounters of hers are also great. It really makes you think that even a little act of yours can change someone's life, be it an act of kindness or not.

Ps.: That last side story... was the author on acid at the time??? Like, seriously? Don't get me wrong, it was interesting, but... seriously?? <<less

Main character is awesome in the beginning cuz she's so different! Sadly she loses that special thing later on as she falls for ML... following the usual novel pattern of stripping off the girl's strengths if she loves...I hate it.

Still it's a light and cute story, no major drama, full of life lessons and optimistic. I would recommend.

Well, a lot more feels involved than I thought there would be. I don't really agree with how she handles people on the radio as far as advice goes because there are already so many incidents where advice on a radio show was taken and things ended in a really bad way, but aside from that, I love it all. Quite a few scenes thus far where I'd tear up a bit, and a whole lot more scenes where I'd giggle to myself from how silly it is. Overall, this is a really lovely read.

Heh, this is some pretty sweet stuff. Not Diabetes Mellitus inducing, but close.

I'm liking it thus far, though the grammar could use a little more work it's not really hampering the story in a serious way.

Definitely going to recommend this for someone looking for a bit of sweet romance.

Spoiler

Some people don't seem to understand that when you reject something enough times, you lose it altogether. You don't avoid something until it goes away when it comes to love, you face it head on or it's out of reach before you know it. Trust and Love are two very special things, Love is built upon trust, if you can no longer trust who you love, then you end up rather not loving that person at all.

Rating between 2-2.5.

I know this book has a lot of really good reviews but some things really irked me and made it impossible for me to enjoy the book.

The writing is generally good and the way the author is able to evoke great emotions with little effort is impressive. The banter / interactions have a good flow.

But I have problems with the following points which lead me to nearly quit the book several times:

    1. Spoiler

Women in china already have it hard enough with all the social pressure, the reinforcement of 30 being old and how lucky she is to have been reborn at a time "where she still young and fresh" is not really a good message. There is also a point where the FL consoles a "older" women from her village and internally thinks that women have to be realistic and stop waiting for love is quite harsh. A women can stand on her own and can be happy. "Women hold up half of the sky" not "Women hold up half of the sky but only if they are married by the time they are 20"

      [collapse]
    1. Spoiler

How the author depicts women who prioritize their careers as "bad" really rubbed me the wrong way. The declaration "that in a healthy happy relationship one person has to prioritize the other", molding them self around the partner is dangerous. An An (the ML's ex) gets depicted as being wrong to be busy and wanting a career but
the ML is the same?? - Like he's nearly never home, they don't really go anywhere, he's not able to rush over if something happens (like she's ill at some point and hes like "aw, that sucks - drink some porridge) it's just that the FL is supportive (in part because she's not really a 22-year old and in other part because she knows he'll cure cancer). So why is it okay when he does it and not when An An does it? The FL rushes to console him after he lost a patient - forgoing a business deal but when the ML is working he's not even looking at his phone answering. At the same time An An regrets her decision and keeps the ring to remind herself that "she lost a good man". But did she really? The ML himself said he never felt like he felt with the FL and that he used to put his work before everything. So he and An An did basically the same things (An An goes to the USA and he also leaves his wife to go to the USA for several months, only informing her shortly before), but it's only noble when he does it (That's not to say that An An did everything right or anything, it's just the way it's portrait is quite misogynistic).

The FL later alludes to "working so hard in her last life to mask the bitterness of being lonely/single as if a career is only to mask the longing for men by women.

      [collapse]
    1. Spoiler

      The way the FL immediately
forgives her family for the ab*se she suffered from them in her last life is so ridiculous. They alienated her from the family, didn't care how she felt, didn't care who she married - only that she married. They cast her out, not caring about her as a person and she goes back just like that? Let's her husband be subjected to this super weird and villain like behavior? When they visited her family I just cringed and couldn't take it seriously, it honestly felt like a caricature.

But I guess that's filial piety for you.

      [collapse]
    1. Spoiler

Children don't raise themselves (!!) and it can be damaging to children who experience this kind of (emotional) neglect.
It's really neither healthy or should be encouraged. Why did the author even "add" a child if later neither parents has time or cares about the child (never going to any events or ceremonies, coming home late / business trips etc.) ?

Is it because that's what you're supposed to do to be a good child/person?

      [collapse]
Anyway... if these things don't bother you, you'll probably enjoy the book, like many other readers since it's well written.

It's just that I feel like it could have been written nicer/more uplifting in regards of different, but equally satisfying life-paths women can take. Especially since the FL's radio-show was all about empowering and supporting people.

Um...I've been impulsive many times. But these two... wow.

Yea, MC is reborn. But she didn't know ML personally. She just married..... because she recognised him from a magazine..... so, for money? Probably. Because I see no other reason.

Now, ML... man, why does he need to marry? No clue. If he wants to marry his gf for his mother, it would make sense. But, picking a girl from the street? TF. Where's those nonexistent IQ they talk about? He doesn't have any.

And threatening his GF to marry or break up, bastard.... more>> I never felt marrying was that important. He wants his gf to give up her dream for him. For what? Marrying? Shithead.

Damn, their reasoning is beyond me. <<less

HOLY COW THIS WAS AMAZING - it deserves the impressively high rating, but it does feel a lot more like a modern literary fiction than something written for just entertainment; this is the kind of novel that would be analyzed and discussed in a book club or literature class. It's a slice of life story that is by turns funny, sweet, poignant, sad, and honestly has a lot to say about life and growing up and falling in love with the person you're with. The entire story was beautifully written... more>> and feels very REAL - ML does not get over his ex immediately and FL doesn't act like someone who's 22 but her real mental age before her rebirth, the friends get together and do dumb things, the FL can remember everything but uses some of her knowledge to get ahead and what she DOES remember is always something emotionally significant to her, so there's a good reason she remembers it. None of the characters are perfect, and it's not hard to understand their motivations for their actions - but there's also a tremendous amount of character growth, and progression in how they act and think, and it's wonderfully carried out. Especially the radio show scenes - they read like small vignettes that add to the overwhelming feel of the novel - it's just so well done. The writing and translation are top notch, and I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book.

There are beautiful moments when Yu Dong and Xia Feng start to really UNDERSTAND each other and moments where they are teasing and having fun together - and while this is a very low-drama between the MCs series, there is some drama with exes and the things going on in their lives and the lives of their friends. Yu Dong, Ren Xinxin, and Xiang Xiaoyue are ABSOLUTE FRIENDSHIP GOALS. They are the epitome of women supporting other women, and the three together are nothing to mess with. I adore how the friendships and casual interactions are shown - you can tell how close Xia Feng and Shao Yifang are and how the girls watch each other's backs and genuinely support each other. The parents are all SO funny and I truly love all the depictions of long-term relationships and friendships. It's true to life and fulfilling.

Spoiler

I have to admit, I had real hopes for Ren Xinxin and Shao Yifang becoming an item, but alas - she maybe ends up with an alien.

Novel dropped due to the Mc’s crummy family.

Not sure why, but authors sure love making every single Chinese family the absolute worst. Villagers are especially terrible, what with no one ever honestly saying they care for their children.

Anyway the Mc’s whole experience with her family turned the fluff into tr*sh, especially since MC is going around not explaining anything.

... more>> Sigh author added extra un-realism by having MC and ML have intimate sec and proposal the day before too...

Sigh. Anyway chapters 40-44 simply sink the entire novel.

Mc’s family is clear s*um that are held up as good people despite their dumb actions. <<less

Um... what to say? I don't really read many romance novels, at least not ones where the romance is the main focus or there isn't some twist to the story. I clicked chapter one, just to see what it was about real quick since the synopsis sounded interesting and my pizza rolls were in the oven. I fully intended to back out after quickly becoming disinterested, but... well, I just finished the whole thing in one sitting and it's 10 hours later.

I need y'all to understand, I'm one picky customer,... more>> and I WILL judge plot and characters harshly. Half the time, I end up hating or being bored by the leads, and the other 40% of the time I'll only feel like they're mildly entertaining. For the remaining 10%, I will genuinely love the characters, but when there's two leads, one's usually loved more than the other.

That said, I loved both Yu Dong and Xia Feng, and their budding relationship. They were fun to watch, and felt rather real to me. There wasn't any black bellied CEO pampering type of thing going on, nor was the male lead dominating and possessive, the type of ML I hate the most. At times, Xia Feng felt more like the heroine than his wife, but I quite liked how he was a sensible man (opening chapter already spoiled in the synopsis notwithstanding). Yu Dong was just the right amount of zany to compliment him, and I never got bored of her antics. The best friends were awesome, too. Actually, all of the side characters were

except XinXin's mother and wannabe husband. I really don't understand Chinese relationships, but I wanted Yu Dong to beat them both up so bad. At least have XinXin slap her mother. Lady was trying to marry her off to a complete s*umbag, and drove her own daughter into a corner. Are you serious?

[collapse]

Anyway, I really loved this story, so I imagine people who actually like romance novels will be particularly fond of this one. Some say it's all too short, but it's about the size of three good-sized novels, and any more would likely just feel redundant and stretched out, so I'm quite happy with it not overstaying it's welcome and ending on a high note. I especially liked the bonus chapters

Spoiler

where, through the eyes of the child they have together, we see how things go for our leading couple. The very last bonus chapter, where XinXin once again meets the homeless man who saved her during her pregnancy and it turns out he was actually an alien threw me off. It felt like it came completely out of left field, since aliens weren't a part of the story at all until this final bonus chapter, but then I remembered that the whole plot revolved around Yu Dong time travelling for no apparent reason.

Now that I'm thinking of it, in that last chapter, it's revealed that the alien was there to study emotions in order to save his race, but he was unable to comprehend except for XinXin's involvement with him. In the previous timeline, however, XinXin committed su*cide after being forced to marry the s*umbag, so he would likely not have ever discovered emotions if not for Yu Dong's unintentional time travel and interference. It makes me wonder if the time travelling was caused by aliens in some way. That's a stretch, but it'd be cool if I'm right.

Reincarnation setup with a random husband, but the plot and approach differ from the typical reincarnation novel in a creative and refreshing manner. 1: MC doesn't need to religiously adhere to her knowledge of her past life to succeed; in fact, she deliberately chooses a career that deviates from her previous success (!). There are hardly any 'aha' moments where the MC triumphs using past life memories other than knowing which a**holes to avoid (two lousy men). 2: The ML does not have some invincible halo, such that the moment... more>> the MC decided to wed the ML, her life was set and the ML would come swooping in to every sticky situation to rescue her on a white horse.

These are advantageous deviations from the generic convention, because the characters have substance; they are three-dimensional, and not the flat archetypal protagonists of the reincarnation genre. One example: when MC brings ML back home, it is immediately obvious that she has not scripted the family interactions, because ML bumbles into every conceivable faux pas and MC has to clean up the mess (but doesn't!).

Another major advantage is the author's studied avoidance of needless drama. Not every flashpoint needs to be dragged out into tragic wailing. For example, we are told that ML does not know MC gets a job early on in the wee hours, and so he is left wondering why the MC is always missing at night. A lesser author would spin this into some melodramatic misunderstanding about MC's lascivious night life, but here the MC just explains her job. Another example: when the original fiance character returns, there's no melodramatic fight, there's no indecisive and annoying ML, and it's pretty much easily settled.

A concluding point: this novel really speaks to the young professionals. We have our own latent anxieties about marriage and settling down, we're ensconced in our early career-building stage, and sometimes we're just so tired that there is just no time for drama at home. You get a lot of that: scenes in the home at night that just seem to end abruptly, because there is nothing more, because everyone's an adult and mature and no longer in high school. The concerns are real, too: finding a right partner, figuring out our careers, staying close to the parents, sticking up for our friends who are now at different stages of family life (single? Married? Kids?). For everyone in your late 20s, this is definitely a worthwhile read (at one point, the author has the MC specifically mention the 22-30 age range, so I have no doubt that we are his target audience).

Final shoutout: the MC's job is really well-written. What I loved most were the little vignettes that came through the MC's radio program. I love how this novel manages to make the MC and ML very powerful characters even without the tired tropes of needing to praise their appearance or ability in bed to the skies every chapter. <<less

You have to read!!!!!

It's funny, romantic (but not really), and slow pace. Slow pace romance for a quick marriage, where two strangers just meet and try to make something work out.

There's no revenge plot, or those death flag everywhere, and scheming till the last chapters. It''s very relaxing to read.

I LOL at almost every chapters.

And, there's 3 couple in making too XD not one, not 2, but 3! and all circumstances are very....... romance novel for women.

For now, we just get 2 but very soon, we'll see them all.

It's a wholesome novel. Every chapter progressed smoothly didn't look anything out of place or Forced. The novel depicted not only just main characters story but others also. This was my first time reading a novel with many nameless character with their small stories. It was more realistic.(︶︿︶)

I definitely like shameless-bold protagonist and MC was that. Liked her too much. She was dependable, intelligent what you would expect from a career women with 10 years of experience. ML was what we call gentleman who was ture to his words and... more>> emotion. He, knew what he wanted not confused to accept his actual feeling, a completely good adult. Their relation progression wasn't abrupt. It progressed step by step quite realistically. Something like how things happen in arranged marriage. They fall in love slowly but surely.

⁽⁽ଘ ( ˊᵕˋ ) ଓ⁾⁾

Supporting characters were also good and Novel showed a strong bond of friendship which made me envied.

To find love after marriage, when reality is usually the other way around... stories like this are definitely high up in my list.

Girls mostly dream of having their dream wedding, but not a dream marriage, and the author just gave us that. When most couples fall out of love after marriage because reality sets in, this story is about "consciously and decisively" loving someone and being faithful to the end. Our ML and MC is the true power couple amongst many couples i've read so far. Why? Because they chose... more>> to like, love and protect each other, and when they started with this choice, they made good on it. No tr*shy feelings, no lingering affection for exes, no excuses for mistakes. They admit their wrongs and make good on their promises to change. THEY DIDN'T MARRY FOR LOVE BUT THEY DIDN'T TAKE IT LIGHTLY. That alone is the best thing in this story.

They understood that time and work will always get in between, but as long as they have each other in their minds and hearts, sacrifices are easily made for love. And I agree. There will always be arguments, problems, and yes, other people trying to get in the way, but I always believe that LOVE IS A CHOICE, AND AS LONG AS YOU CHOOSE TO LOVE THAT PERSON EVERY DAY, then one cannot think of giving up, of cheating, or just plain falling out of love.

This story is so dreamy I'd want to read it again and again, and would always be thankful that there are authors who write beautifully like this, and translators whose efforts are outstanding. <<less

This is one of the novels I always reread when I find myself looking for something to read and I don't need the anxiety of wondering what happens next. It's a slow burn romance (my favorite!!), and shows how mature relationships are built upon small meaningful moments. Moments of learning, moments of communicating your wants and needs, and moments of putting someone else's happiness above yours.

Sure, the beginning was a bit unrealistic (getting married to a stranger on a whim), but everything that happens after that made so much sense.... more>> 10/10 would recommend.

A light hearted, funny yet philosophical, and mature romance that is totally worth the read!!

Yu Dong, our MC, is a 30 year old mature, sensible and somewhat cynical businesswoman who's done pretty well for herself in the entertainment industry, but not so well in her personal life. So when she finds herself back in her 22 year old self, dumped just before getting married to her then-boyfriend, she takes a chance to do things differently!

(Which is where the summary comes in - yes, I was just as stupefied as... more>> the ML at reading it)

Her marriage to the ML, Xia Feng, starts off in the typical Strangers to Friends to Lovers manner, with both of them being roommates and support systems for each other in handling some family matters. The relationship progression is so well done, that it is a genuine joy to read!!

Strong female friendships, genuinely good coworkers and random stranger-encounters that impact life in small but significant ways - this story is a treasure trove of simple teachings and character development.

The best thing though? Is the utter lack of petty drama.

Yu Dong lives with the principal of 'do your best and enjoy life', and truly, that is the best message that could be given in this quirky and humorous story! <<less
