Jiang Zhen crossed into ancient times and became the old bachelor eldest Jiang who was neglected by his whole family in Hexi Village.

He was born into a good family, but the eldest Jiang was busy all year and couldn’t even eat a full meal. His two younger brothers could marry a wife, but he was starved to death… Jiang Zhen felt it was unbearable.

You don’t want to feed me? OK, I will kill the chicken myself.

You don’t even give me a glimpse of food? It doesn’t matter, the door of the granary will be opened as soon as I kick it.

You want to tell me that I am unfilial? Ok, I will immediately take the knife to the village and slash people, and let the yamen officer catch all of us.

Jiang Zhen became a local tyrant in the village. He also saw the “ugly” ger who could not get married in the village.

Future father-in-law: “Jiang Zhen is always wandering around our house. Is he planning to rob our house?”

The future mother-in-law: “What to do? Jinge can’t beat him!”

Zhao Jinge’s face was hot… Dad, the wild rabbit that I brought back today is what he gave…

It's Absolutely Beyond Expectations!!! It's very Different from other Transmigration to Ancient Time and Do Farming/Doing Business and Become Rich thing. Why? Because it's more INTENSE! MC doesn't have problem using physical force! He literally beat the parents who had wrong him and stabbed one of his so called brother! He doesn't have problem with threatening people and even let out blood. He won't kill them, but he doesn't have problem to kill Bandits and Pirates! And as long as people won't make trouble for him, he let them live... more>> peacefully. But if they still try anything, don't expect Mercy from our MC!

MC Is Super Badass and Amazing!!! He's very Doting and Devoted Lover. And very Caring! But our MC is not Omnipotent. He's not perfect, but so far, I Love him Soooo much!!! He know to draw a line. Absolutely Awesome! 👍👍👍👍👍

Our ML is great too!!! Sadly he has this inferiority complex. Understandable though. Everyone always thought Low of him. No, our ML is not Ugly, just manlier and sturdier compared to any normal Ger look like. That's why he always worried if other would snatch his Husband from him. But he's no pushover!

MC's business makes his village thriving, richer, and happier! If you want more novel like this, that has MC doing good for the Village as long as the Village is good for him, then I recommend this novel and 'Transmigration of Mian [Reluctantly] Becomes His Man [Wife]' though it's with Shou MC. While Transmigrating to the Ancient Times with Lu's Convenience is a Gong MC like this novel, who is good for a Village, but toward the NEW Village he live now and NOT the First Village he had lived.

Anyway, I Love this Novel So Much So Far and Pray that the rest of the novel won't disappoint me!!! 🙏🙏🙏

Finished at 1 September 2022:

Even knowing how Awesome the Author is, this novel still Amazed me with the Great World Building !

And then the author actually shows us Happiness by giving a Character who deserve happiness, finally get his Happily Ever After Ending.

And then even more Perfect... More Reincarnation and Reunion~ yes.... This what you called Novel with Super Satisfying Ending!!!

Totally Loving this novel with my Eternal Love for the Eternity and Beyond in Every Universe I'm in!!! <<less

Dropped because of the r*pe, I was traumatised bei this chapter and cried my self to sleep

very unfair, cruel, ugly and unnecessary

I don’t understand the logic of villainising a perfectly fine side character and punishing him with such cruelty, all to highlight the love between the main characters

in my opinion that was totally weak writing and ruined the whole novel for me

i loved the other novel by this author but this one really ruined my good opinion of his works

A lot of wtf moments. Most prominent: First, the violent MC who is seen as normal. Second, the annihilation of a potential character (Shen Anxin). Third, the development in the end where the MC became a fugitive and then ended up running a country. Wtf. I think the author is a bit skewed (has a violent tendency, ignorant or indifferent about r*pe, xenophobia, and ethnocentric).

At the beginning I was really opposed to the MC-gong because I felt that he was more Brawn-over-Brains for someone who supposedly a modern military man who led other soldiers. I also didn’t like how he seemed a bit thoughtless/tactless towards the difference in culture between his modern standards and the norm of a parallel of Ming/Qing dynasty China.

(I’m not sure what the military of other countries are like though, so it might just be my own misconception from my relatives who are/were involved in the military)

However, the... more>> MC-gong did have character development and unlike the usual perfect-gong type, he made mistakes and grew from them. The ML-shou also had character growth, and is especially pleasing because while I’m very fond of the typical “peerless beauty shou” he wasn’t, he was also atypical for the usual image of a Ger, which is quite novel.

Sometimes the “smoothness” of how the story is now at the hundred’s concerns me, I feel that ever since the main CP got rich it they lacked obstacles but then when I think about it, when does money not grease the wheels. Though because it’s been calm for the past couple of chapters, I’m having high expectations for the last 50+ chapters.

(Hopefully, I won’t be disappointed by the conclusion ((I refuse to MTL, bad grammar makes me rage-quit and I don’t want it to taint this story))) <<less

1 star: Started off all right, nothing special but nothing terrible so around 3 stars for the first half or so, and if you like instant face-slapping, you'll like how the transmigrator right from the get-go terrifies and bullies his s*um family. Stars started dropping as the story dragged on, half predictable-but-not-bad slice of life and half the genre-typical "MC is super amazing because he's a modern man and knows how to do modern things like sell stuff to make money." I'm usually fine with those things but the latter... more>> one was getting annoying as the endless chapters ticked past. The latter third of the story devolved into focusing on the blatantly nationalistic and pro-colonialist attitude that crops up in many Chinese novels, only instead of an uncomfortable line here or there or an eye-rolling scene or two, it's a whole arc devoted to putting psedo-China on a pedestal while ethnically cleansing pseudo-Japan (but it's okay! They love to be ethnically cleansed and willingly fully assimilate into pseudo-Chinese culture).

The gong MC is quite unlikeable from the very beginning. He styles himself as a modern man and when plot-convenient he references his previous life as a soldier for reasons as to why he's rough, brusque, and indifferent to everyone but the ger he decides will be his lover—and it really does feel like he chose the first convenient guy who suited his tastes and was immediately useful to him to be his lover. There are some lines about how the ger saved the original body and the original body has lingering feelings for him, and incidentally the ger is "manly" and therefore "ugly" by the world's standards, but since the MC is supposedly a modern gay man he "naturally" prefers manly men, so this ger is perfect for him! He takes care of the ger's parents out of obligation but doesn't give a **** about anyone else unless they're useful to him, in which case he sees them as tools to further his own ends. The MC is pretty much a sociopath. He only has business partners and underlings, no friends or confidants and no interest in other relationships, only building his own increasingly large empires: first as a traveling tradesman, then a mercantile enterprise, and works his way up to a literal empire premised on an extreme view that Colonialism is Great. More on that fun last part down below!

The shou ger doesn't have much personality being generically the shy-and-reserved type with low self-esteem because he's "ugly" and is considered unsuitable for marriage and having children. Naturally he starts to blossom and come into his own with the support and encouragement of the loving gong who—oh wait, that's what the story was aiming for but failed to achieve. Instead, the clueless shou becomes dependent on the MC who isn't above using him because the shou conveniently looks like a man and because the MC is again a MODERN MAN, he doesn't think twice about forcing his lover to do things that are weird or taboo for his gender per current societal/cultural norms.

While this could be spun as holding up "modern" ideas of gender equality as positive compared to ancient gender inequality and strict gender roles, it doesn't pan out because the MC is still very sexist in his views of women and doesn't see his ger lover as a woman, he sees him as a man and treats him like one. There are some superficial points made about people being surprised when they realize the strong competent "man" beside the MC is actually a ger, it goes no deeper than that. The shou's entire existence revolves around supporting the MC's rampage across the land to gain power and money through typical transmigrator means.

About the nationalism and colonialism:

Spoiler

There is a consistent thread through the novel of the MC acquiring "underlings" of various socially low castes and "bettering" their lives with his modern mindset and training techniques to serve him, which okay fine is a transmigrator trope I usually don't have an issue with, but in this case I was weirded out how he openly considers it to be "brainwashing" (literal word he uses multiple times) to mold others to suit his needs. There is no element of altruism or kindness involved; literally, he needs to manipulate how people think in order to essentially ens*ave them into making him more money or providing him with opportunities. He's very cold and calculating beyond even typical "cold and calculating gong" stereotypes.

That uncomfortable brainwashing trickle suddenly becomes an outright off-putting-in-the-extreme raging torrent in the last arc of the novel, where the MC basically defects from pseudo-China with his giant fleet of underlings, sails to crude-savage-and-inferior pirate-ridden pseudo-Japan, where he and his mass of people raid all the "bad" pseudo-Japanese pirates and evil overlords while taking over the land piece by piece by installing his own soldiers and imposing his own culture on the locals via government enforcement. All this helps the poor helpless peasants! Forcing them to assimilate into pseudo-Chinese culture via laws like "you must speak only our language, if you don't, you will not receive government aid or recognition and will be a second-class citizen" is something the colonized people eagerly agree to because it's just language, what's the big deal? Their lives will be so much better if all they have to do is become pseudo-Chinese!! And anyway, this other culture is so much better and more refined!!! Look how much their prosperity increased once these people from an enemy country sailed over out of nowhere and mass took over half of the country!!!!

The MC ruthlessly colonizes and conquers pseudo-Japan and reforms it in his image of modern-day China right down to literally, I **** you not, declaring the empire is called the People's Republic of China, with a huge emphasis on how amazing the country is in terms of prosperity and equality and technological advancements, how much better off the former people are (who are all super happy to be citizens of this new better country!!!!!!) , and how amazing everything is because his government is the greatest and takes care of the people and the people trust the government so much and it's all because of him and his ability to guide these crude people of ancient times toward modern enlightenment.

It's actually quite very rather just a bit ever so slightly somewhat off-putting, if y'know what I mean.

[collapse]

That last arc retroactively ruined the rest of the so-so novel. If you read a few chapters and find it enjoyable or an okay way to pass the time, I'd suggest reading until you get bored or up until that last arc begins and then stopping and imagine instead that the MC just sails off into the sunset with his lover to start a new life elsewhere... and try not to imagine it involves venerating colonialism, ethnic cleansing, and forced assimilation. <<less

The fact that it started as a 'farming novel' to an 'unexplainably getting rich' and ending with the ML being a PRIME MINISTER??!!. (This is the first novel that forced me to write my first review'

Spoiler

Here are all the things (not giving any context to the novel's event specifically' that both disgusted/weirded me and those that started as comedic turned repetitive and just borderline annoying.

  • ML's as*hole behavior to just anyone in general. It's understandable for his shitty family in the start but like come on.
  • Just weird blind admiration/hate from everyone around ML?! Like in the earlier chapters, if I recall correctly, his family calls a yamen officer to arrest or put the ML in trouble. The ML (because he is a trained officer) overpowers him and ties him up with the threat of death and like after a whole day of captivity, the yamen officer kind of develops stockholm syndrome? He starts admiring him and supports him later on in the novel.
  • Another infuriating event was with the ger Shen Anxin. Introduced as a marginalized individual because quite like women in ancient China, they were also disapproved of working in trade/business (any masculine jobs really) He is a strong person who works hard and breaks societal bonds yadda yadda. And then the author made him fall for the ML and turn all pathetic? He forgets all his businesses and family reputation, goes through some weird white moonlightification (except for way more losers), and his character is reduced to a side stepping stone. He gets rejected by the ML (understandable) and he blames MC for it? And then he goes into this blind despair, falls into a trap gets gangr*ped by someone, and also blames MC? Either I'm crazy or this novel was turning shittier by the second. (I'm not crazy)
  • Moreover, for no reason, the imperial royal family who were not meddling at all with the ML, started to work against him?! (The starting of the absolute rushing of the plot that follows) And then the ML with his escort agency somehow defeats the Imperial government (I scrolled through these chapters because they were frankly horribly written{the translators are GODS for putting up with this}) and then he encountered the people from another 'continent' who were just stereotyped Japanese. And oh my god does the novel start blaring red flags. Firstly he dislikes/ is disgusted with them because they are 'barbaric', different in 'appearance' and lastly speak a 'weird language'. There is a literal scene where the ML ORDERS that the "foreign refugees" have to learn his language to talk with him or he will not bother. It also pointed out that the continent has been through some chaos and war and then the 'foreign' people are shamed for being bandits. How were they supposed to survive, you entitled piece of arrogant garbage who just happens to come from the modern era and hence gains the right to be superior? It even subtly hinted that the common poor folk of the native continent (China) are more 'tolerable' than these 'foreigners' (Japanese). As a native of a colonized country that has faced racism, I felt simply horrible and grew to hate the ML.
  • Lastly, the ML just goes ahead and starts invading the 'foreign' territories to unify one great China. I kid you not the ML literally 'COLONIZES' and unifies all the territories (Where Chinese will remain forever superior to others) and names himself the PRIME MINISTER??!! Boy, it is an ancient set novel and you make the title the Republic of China? And the extras were just his daughter getting a random territory in Australia and his other kids also becoming the next Prime minister?
  • As you may have noticed how I barely mentioned the MC because his whole persona is so goddamned reliant on the ML, he is invisible to me (which is better than the hot mess the ML is).

In conclusion, don't read the novel, someone shoved Chinese propaganda up the Author's throat as she was writing the end and she was also on every form of substance.

This is my favorite novel right now. The MC is so shameless in chasing after the man he likes it is cute. I like that he has decided to pick up the role of crazy person in order to get retribution rather than suddenly coming out as some great genius. The family deserves what they get for abusing a child and for ignoring him being ab*sed.

okay so this was honestly, up to a point, fairly lighthearted and easy transmigration story. things are laid out pretty clearly and its obviously not meant to be an indepth read

but the thing is that it gets fairly... repetitive and its fairly obvious to me that the author is trying to drag the novel out but doesn't know where to take it, so they're just throwing sh*t at the wall

before I get into the things I do have an actual issue with, lets start off with the villains, the jiangs... more>> who are the family of the MC.

Spoiler

honestly I think the handling of it was fine, and people only seem to consider him hitting the mum to be an issue which is a... take to be sure. probably the only thing that I disliked was the treatment of the little sister (I'll get into that)

the MC is primarily reactive, he doesn't do very much on his own initiative in regards to the jiangs, they mostly start sh*t which is where one of the key issues come into play, that being that the jiangs dont know when to give up

every so often it would mention them and I'd already be rolling my eyes because they were going to do something useless to the MC and get their sh*t rocked. I far preferred the bits when they would meet with failing purely because of their own poor decisions

[collapse]

so sister

Spoiler

she is literally punished for her families bad decisions, and despite being literally the only person in the household who treated the original bodies owner with any kindness, its basically written off for not 'being enough'

she literally becomes a s*ave to avoid being forced to become a concubine to a man who almost killed his wife, all because her family wants to pay off the debts of the third brother (changxian?)

she is 15-16 at this time, and the MC literally describes her as a child because that is what she is, yet he and the author both seem to punish her for not being able to give him more??

[collapse]

so the sister is the first issue, the second issue is the pretty... obvious xenophobia.

Spoiler

there is a part with the pirates, theres some throwaway line about them being refugees, which gets tossed away soon enough in favour of basically calling them morons for going under the banner of one person for survival and just generally glosses over the whole thing and its, from where I dropped this, never mentioned again... like at all

during this section theres this absolutely Bizarre bit where the MC introduces stitching up wounds to the masses. its considered barbaric and then its revolutionary when its like the oldest medical practice? like cleanliness is fairly new and dependent on region, but stitching up wounds is ancient and clearly a very obvious one since so many cultures have individually realised it. also I just want for authors to stop making MC's revolutionary for no reason. like this literally pulled me so hard out of the story that any possibility I had of getting past the next bit was impossible, it shattered all enjoyment

[collapse]

probably the breaking point, as it was for many people, was shen anxin. now I dont know what happened but the author does a really rapid about face when it comes to this character.

Spoiler

so the character we are introduced to is fairly naïve but generally kind and honest. a pretty obvious foil to the ML with them both removing the mole. he had a crush on the MC but like apparently its slim pickings in those times.

the crush plot cuts off because he thinks the MC has concubines and he disappears for a bit, when he comes back to the story after a year its as this bootlicking suck up. okay that's fine, do what you gotta do

but then after he learns that the MC doesnt have concubines, the crush magically returns, as if the MC doesnt still have a wife, and the character just does a rapid fall from decent character to easy faceslapping material.

he is wildly jealous and somehow convinced that he is better than the ML, despite the fact that during his introduction, he pretty quickly realised this and knew that he wouldnt have been able to marry MC anyway.

[collapse]

tw r*pe

Spoiler

a business enemy, who's son had been harassing and attempted to have him assaulted during the introduction arc, takes the opportunity to have shen anxin gang r*ped. it is not described, but it is done in the most uncaring and hamfisted way. when he goes to the MC for help, the MC completely ignored him and brushes him off. which the writing labels is fair and like... no? this just makes the MC look bizzarely unempathetic towards someone who actually hadnt done much of anything to him

[collapse]

Spoiler

all of it completely demolishing and ignoring the characterisation that had been built originally. and what keyed me into this, was the line that literally said that "he had gotten everything he ever wanted"

.... what

this character was described as having lost his father, had to dig out his mole in order to live as a man, is gay but has to marry a woman because he did this, has been routinely harassed by someone who wants to take over his fathers legacy and is carrying the burden of his whole family on his back.

what about this screams "gets everything he wanted"? the son that wanted him assaulted was treated with more kindness, hell I bet the father that had him assaulted will be basically let off the hook

[collapse]

honestly I can't, in good faith recommend this novel. it's fairly easy reading, but it attempts to drop in so much and then does nothing with it, like if you wanted to write a light hearted slice of life, you can DO THAT

like aside from the main issues I pointed out, it gets to a point where the characters grow flat and exaggerated. the ML's insecurity becomes his key personality trait, the MC suddenly becomes incredibly possessive and unkind without warning, especially towards shen anxin (yes im bitter)

like I have read books with similar topics, but the way this one handled it made me feel physically unwell, and all I can say is find something else. translators you did a great job but this novel isnt worth your effort <<less

I have finished reading this novel and let me tell you that this novel is one of my favorite novels it has almost 180 chapters but it is totally worth reading.

Once I started reading the novel I couldn't stop, I love how Jiang Zhen keeps moving forward and forward it doesn't have a lot of drama like others but his plot goes along with the story the more the protagonist advances the more challenging it gets but what I liked the most is how she loves her husband who is... more>> very cute and her husband equally loves him I love their interactions and the best thing is that they are together from almost the first chapters and there are never misunderstandings between them or lack of communication.

SPOILER

Spoiler

Later on Jiang Zhen's company keeps moving forward and forward, he opens a school for boys and girls, he creates a dock on the island of the salt pan or salt which becomes a very popular place, he becomes a sea trader and goes to other continent bringing new things like mirrors ect, Then he was attacked and fled to a country to the east where the pirates came from, as the country was short of weapons and food, Jiang Zhen took advantage of this and sold them weapons and food while he took away their land little by little, then when they realized it was too big and Jiang Zhen took control of the country and called it China, The country becomes a constitutional monarchy where the emperor is but he is not the absolute power, Jiang Zhen becomes the prime minister and Zhao Jinge becomes the emperor, China becomes the most developed country creating new things and taking it to the industrial revolution and creating the steam train as a new invention, he dies at the age of 80 something, he succeeded in having three children a daughter a son and a ger who will become the emperor in the future.

The country hundreds of years ahead will be the most developed country in the world and will be one of the great powers.

The start is good.

It was interesting to see some real struggles (well there is still OPness let's be truth).

But a cannon character was r*ped for no real reasons, it's not linked to a real plot, just one on the side and he'll go crazy. It's something we can understand happening and then the comments of the readers... I'm sorry but no. At least if there was a reason for the r*pe or a need for the story I think it could be a plot worth it. But a r*pe for... more>> a r*pe, it's too easy for the author and the comments of the readers were distusting. I tried to read a little more but I just can't get into the story like before.

The MC and ML are too obsessed with each other for me. The world around them still exist. <<less

This story is really good. I can't stopped reading it. Even its never ending repeat same situation where ppl bullied Jiang Zhen, he beats them, hes getting rich and rich, I really like how confident he is. Always stick to his principle. Treat ppl with respect and ignore ppl with no respect, only beat ppl who disturb them. Their love was so sweet and fluffy. Hope Jingye will more confident on himself and accept his worth.

I really like this one. Its a transmigration story with the MC being the gong instead of the shou as we are used to seeing. Can I say how much I love the faceslapping???!!! I mean face slapping in the literal sense! The MC is savage! He has no qualms with beating people who try to ab*se him. Filial piety? You abusive mother and slag father want that from me? Dream on!! I got so tired of these MC's that put up with ab*se for the sake of reputation and... more>> the working up to the faceslapping of the slag relatives takes up half the story. The MC has a clear distinction between love and hate and doesn't tolerate what he doesn't have to. The ML (shou) is adorable? He's simple, kind and made his peace with being "ugly" and never throws a pity party at his situation! It makes me doubly happy when the MC spoils him. Kudos 5 stars from me. <<less

He took over another country, forced change the entire country cultures, and became a ruler?? Hard to rate. Parts are exceptionally great while some parts are kind of soulless as if the writer didn't know how to continue.

The story is nothing new but with some twists. MC is an ex army guy that got shot while saving someone and transmigrated to into a body in another world. He became the eldest son of a farmers family that was not only unloved but basically hated by his family and kept like a s*ave. While the original body owner would live this life, MC so would... more>> not. When he was weak, his neighbors ger (think omega) did save him and he is totally MCs for of guy. So MC is starting out with nothing but working hard for a better life.

ML has a loving family but unfortunately they are dirt poor. So although he is a ger he has to do farm work and does not look like the other pampered ger and is not married. Then his neighbor changed his personality greatly and started to chase him. Together they work hard and he enters a life beyond his imagination.

So I especially like the first half of this book. It is mainly a slice of life where MC starts from having nothing to making small money to becoming rich. I like that it is not too easy. MC put in a lot of sweat and hard work. They started with farming, making small business, and opening more and more business opportunities for themselves and the people around.

I like the daily life of them and how ML slowly grows under MCs care.

There is a lot of satisfying faceslapping going on, especially when the evil family gets its payback. While sometimes frustrating, MC is dealing properly with them.

The parts that somewhat annoyed me came in the second part of the novel. It changes from slice of life to an almost narration and progresses sometimes in the speed of light. Some of the decisions become somewhat strange.

To be fair, I was still entertained too the end and the extras were really nice, so this novel deserves 4 stars. The translation is also great.

I will most likely read this novel again and recommend it. <<less

I really want to like this story. I really, really do. In fact I love the beginning parts where he was dirt poor and hoarded chicken eggs as though they're gold.

I'm fine with a 'simple brute' protagonist with a heart but past chapter 150 it was becoming something like a side character bashing fest. If you're on his side, you're gold. If you're against him, goodbye fool.

The Jiang Family were definitely Not Nice but the way he pushes people down dark roads by cutting off opportunities for improvement is cruel... more>> and pointless.

If MC hadn't been the protagonist, he would have been an evil character.

In short, read it. However, once you get to the point where the MC starts to turn into the local tyrant, well, feel free to get off the train. <<less

I MTLed this story. This is a unique transmigrated story. The MC has many ideas and I think the story was not boring or dragging. The MC is not OP, he's just clever and intelligent. And he loves his family.

What's more, he created his own country. And it's HE, we can even read where the original Jiang Zhen went to.

The author really did great in world building for this story.

This novel constantly appeared on my recommendation. Idek why I havent started it. Maybe it cause the synopsis is not that appealing. But istg when I first read it like I was like aaaahhhh. Why did I constantly avoiding this. This novel is pure. The MC (gong) may seem scary at first but fear not he is very loving to his wife. If you do not seek trouble w him, you may live in peace. The face slapping is so satifsying. And how he awkwardly flirted w his wife make... more>> my day.

The ml? (Uke) is so cute. He is regarded as ugly because of his appearance that are like man. I love his internal monologues. I get it that he is insecure and I love how he tried to overcome it. He is just one cute lil thing.

Overall, its a slice of life. The conflict resolved quite well and the drama is settled quickly. The first part may revolved around him and his wife but afterwards its mostly abt his business. <<less
